The body was recovered at Latukujan 361/ 23 km past, under Mariani PS in Jorhat district, informed police here. According to GRP, Mariani Railway station said that the body is yet to be identified suspected to be 40 years of age and to be from the tea community. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the State Government would be providing housing facilities to all Harijans. Announcing this at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Solapara Harijan Housing Colony at the premises of Nehru Stadium here today, Chief Minister Gogoi said that the State Government would come up with a comprehensive plan for extending housing facilities to Harijans across the State. Terming his Government ‘propoor’, Gogoi said that the State Government has taken up a slew of welfare oriented schemes and programmes in the past 14 years. Despite the

According to Police, suspected militants from Okha district in Nagaland with the view to ferry out coal via Merapani to Guwahati-Siliguri side and to make a comfortable transportation of black diamond from Impang Naga basti through Kolaijan have taken a new route with the Naga militants involved in the coal business forcefully cutting down tea bushes in Assam land owned by Assam small tea grower Hiren Gogoi. Kolaijan lies in the D-sector of the border areas of AssamNagaland where a CRPF battalion is based with Assam police battalion in anticipation of anti-social elements from Nagaland hilltop coming down and harassing the innocent villagers and farmers residing at the border belt. It is a common affair that generally happens during the Christmas festival which is almost round the corner, informed a senior police official here.
