Cement suppliers in Meghalaya under the banner of All Meghalaya Contractor & Suppliers Association (AMC&SA) filed a writ petition before the Meghalaya High Court against the State and Central government opposing frequent hike of price of cement produced from the State in the market. AMC&SA questioned the arbitrary hike of cement price in the market by the different cement companies who are operating in the State. AMC&SA general secretary BL Nongbri on Sunday in-
formed that the Court on Friday last had directed both the State Government and Centre to file their replies within ten days following the issuance of the show cause notice. The court has fixed the next hearing on September 29. Mr Nongbri said that cement factories in Meghalaya are enjoying several facilities including transport subsidies, power subsidies from the state Government but they are continuing to hike the price of cement. He said that cement falls under the categories of essential commodities since not only the contractors but also people are using the product for construction of their houses and other things.
