Arunachal Pradesh PWD serves 12 notices to a Mumbaibased construction company for alleged delay in executing Lalpur to Changlang portion of the Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH).
In response to the notices, the company resumed work in June last but stopped again for which a penalty of Rs 4.71 crore was imposed as a result of which the company assured to start the work soon on war footing.
The condition of the road, which served as the lifeline for three circles in Changlang district, deteriorated and the company was not working on it despite repeated requests. Work of the project worth Rs 5.49 crore began in 2011 with a target to complete it by 2014. But after formation cutting works in 61 km of the 68 kmlong road was completed, the company stopped work.

In a major dreadful incident in the state, a member of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) was killed as security forces opened fire at protesters at Tihu in the Nalbari district of lower Assam today. The deceased has been identified as Himangshu Tamuli. During the incident, a CRPF officer was allegedly gunned down by his colleague at the protest venue. In one such recent incident, a youth from Jharkhand came to Golaghat in search of his lady love and created quite a scene near the Circuit House Golaghat. The boy named Kanhaiya Mahto came in touch with the girl from Golaghat through their continual chats through Facebook. But today when he came in front of the girl, she was shocked and began to run away. Seeing this people got hold of the youth the girl having fled from the spot. Afterwards police came and took the youth to the station for inquiry. NSCN (I-M) cadre injured in encounter with army in Arunachal ET Correspondent Khonsa, Jul 17 One NSCN (I-M) cadre was seriously injured in a fierce gun battle with troops from 4 Rajput Regiment at Longwa in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh today. Sources said that the encounter which started at around 11-30 this morning lasted for an hour. "A 12 member team of NSCN (I-M) led by Anuk Wangsu attacked a army team which was on regular patrol", a source said. The superintendent of police (vigilance and anti-corruption), Guwahati, Shyamal Prasad Saikia who led the raid said that the accused official has been constantly demanding illegal gratification from one Chandrajit Baruah, a government lessee of the Kamalabari-Nimatighat route on the Brahmaputra in Jorhat. Recently, the old contract of the ghat had expired and
owing to some technical issues, the new tender was not allotted to anyone and the competent authority had directed Baruah to continue transportation in the same route until further order.
