CM Pul conducts comprehensive review of APCMUHIS Perme, the villagers led by one Kalom Borang and another Gobung Tayeng entered and cut down and cleared a huge portion of the Sanctuary at Jopong (core zone). However, an FIR was lodged by Ranger Officer K. Panggeng at Pasighat PS, but owing to land dispute OC Pasighat N. Riba has not registered the case and has suggested for bind down of the case under 107. ABSU (E) has also lodged an FIR on the same case against the villagers to protect the D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, but when contacted, OC Pasighat N. Riba told this scribe that, forest and wildlife department should have initiated the case from their own side as they are also empowered. “We are waiting from ADC Mebo or DC Pasighat for their magisterial inquiry based on 145 CrPC after which we will arrest them”, added Riba.

life inside the sanctuary is also found to be regular incidents there these days as lying of salt lick ambush etc were found all across inside the sanctuary. The recent killing of a Sambar (Sisuk) by hunters whose meat was intercepted by both Wildlife and Territory officials at Raneghat Check gate while the meat was being transported in a public vehicle to be sold in the open market of Pasighat is a naked example of such illegal activities of these villagers, the union writes. The loose approach and inaction of the department concern led by incumbent DFO T. Mize is perhaps the reason behind such repeated serious offenses. Even after knowing the illegal seller and hunters, the department concern didn’t book them under any law because of which these illegal activities are flourishing like a booming business today once again.

The ABSU (E) led by President Lungkang Ering in the letter to Chief Wildlife Warden said that, the killing of wild-

The union blames the involvement of too much internal politics and his wrong management as the reason behind

the failures, as the people along fringe villages has taken DFO Tashi Mize for granted today. Now people openly does hunting activities inside the sanctuary and their guts has grown to such level today that, they are now openly intruding inside the core zone of the Sanctuary and claiming lands by cutting down and clearing forest for cultivation, said ABSU in the letter. The union also says that, the DFO Mize remained as silent spectator during the incident while those villagers were clearing and cutting the habitat of wildlife. No force, no police were called to drive away the illegal villagers despite the information received in advance. “By using the entire forces of the DEWS 3 ranges, the villagers could have been driven away, but DFO T. Mize avoided the confrontation and let the forest cutting continued reason best know to him. At many a times, DFO has been found and seen taking light approach toward illegal hunt-

ers though they were caught red handed. He let them go off easily with mutual understanding without putting them under legal hustle as punishment even by withdrawing the police case if happens to register sometime. Just to remain posted here in D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary for longer period, he is not taking serious action against illegal people, rather he is seen oiling around political leaders and ABK district leadership to get blessed for longer tenure here instead of saving and protecting the Sanctuary for which he is being paid off” added Lungkang Ering. When contacted to G.N. Sinha, PCCF Wildlife cum Chief Wildlife Warden, Itanagar over telephone on the illegalities happening at D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary and the receipt of the appeal served by ABSU (E), he said that an inquiry will be done on the entire episode and if possible he will personally visit the Sanctuary.
