Rhino carcass recovered Jorhat, July 23 : Kaziranga National Park (KNP) authority following the information received from the local people of Japori Pathar village under Mihirjan Camp in Kohora Range spotted a carcass of an adult male rhino floating on the river Mori-Difoloo this afternoon, informed Ranjit Das, Range Officer of Kohora Range in KNP here today. Soon after getting specific information KNP officials, guards and doctor team from Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) reached the spot, after thorough checkup declared natural death of the adult rhino, removed its horn and other important body parts and dumped the body beside the spot where it was found. So far, rhino died of natural death in KNP has moved upto 11, while for the cause of the death, CWRC doctor team has taken sample for post mortem, informed KNP officials here. (Correspondent)

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has rushed back from New Delhi to the State today to visit and inspect the flood affected areas of Eastern Arunachal, particularly Lohit, Namsai and Changlang Districts, due to incessant rains in the past few days. Cancelling official engagements at New Delhi, Mein has hurried back to the State to take stock of the situation and to review ongoing relief works in the affected areas. Visiting the flood-hit areas, Mein has praised the coordination among various departments that enabled timely assistance to the people.

Mein is also in constant touch with the local legislators of the affected areas and has asked them to expedite the relief works. He said "leave no stone unturned in order to help mitigate the problem". He further asked them to ensure and direct the officials of district

The recent wave of flood in the state has so far affected 21,253 people in Dibrugarh district. Assam State Disaster Management Authority project officer Dipjyoti Hatikakoty said that 33 villages in the district have come under the grip of flood. Among the affected villages, 16 are in Dibrugarh west revenue circle, 12 in Chabua revenue circle, 3 in Dibrugarh east revenue circle and 2 in Tengakhat revenue circle.
