members and Union ministers Mahesh Sharma and Babul Supriyo. In his reaction to the declassification, Chandra Bose, who was present at the ceremony, said "we welcome this step by Prime Minister wholeheartedly. This is a day of transparency in India." Later, Modi and his ministerial colleagues went around glancing at the declassified files, spending over half an hour at the National Archives. The PM also spoke to members of the Bose family. The NAI plans to release to the public, every month, digital copies of 25 declassified files. In October last year, the Prime Minister met the family members of Netaji and announced that the government would declassify the files re-
lating to the leader whose disappearance 70 years ago remains a mystery. While two commissions of inquiry had concluded that Netaji died in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945, a third probe panel, headed by Justice M K Mukherjee, contested that conclusion and suggested that Bose was alive after that date. The controversy also split members of the Bose family. The first lot of 33 files were

declassified by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and handed over to the NAI on December 4, last year. Subsequently, the ministries of home affairs and external affairs too initiated the process of declassification of files relating to Bose in their respective collection which were then transferred over to the NAI. Chandra Bose said "there is a change in the attitude of the government from that of the previous ones. Firstly, the attitude of suppressing the facts about Netaji has been negated. And this is the biggest thing in unraveling the truth about Netaji." "We feel that certain very important files were destroyed during the Congress regime in order to hide the truth. We have documentary evidence to understand this. So we feel that the Indian government should take steps to ensure the release of files lying in Russia, Germany, UK, USA," he said earlier on Saturday. Netaji's nephew Ardhendu Bose, who was also at the ceremony here, said "the Bose family and the entire country has been waiting for this moment for the last seven decades nearly. We feel that these files would be able to throw some light on it." He also stressed that the files lying in KGB archives in Russia and those with Germany, UK and the US "will bring out more that what lies in those files. As we apprehend that certain files might have been destroyed."

The union added that, such gross anomalies in construction of important building like this one is a big shame for the people of entire Pasighat and its executing & monitoring agency for having constructing such super risky building within a place (Hospital) which is regarded as “life saving place”. The sharp rise in construction activity in the state has made the real estate sector a safe and lucrative market for dubious companies to sell unsafe and substandard building material. The Paltan Bazaar Police along with a court commissioner of Patiala House court, New Delhi, conducted a raid on Friday and seized counterfeit electrical products worth Rs 15 lakh from two retailers whose offices are located on AT road here. The two retailers were selling the items, which included fake motor starters and relay units, under the banner of L&T.
Advocate Akshay Shrivastava, the counsel for Larsen & Toubro Limited, told , "The retailers were selling substandard electrical products under the name L&T. We prayed for an ex parte injunction against them." Security measures have been beefed up in Assam to ensure that there are no major law and order problems before and during the Republic Day celebration. For a long time the proscribed underground organisations which have refused to sign either ceasefire or suspension of operations with the Union Government have been boycotting Republic Day and other national functions.
The militants also attack security personnel and create other law and order problems to make the boycott a success. The alert has been sounded in the state in view of intelligence reports that militants may carry out subversive activities. Patrolling has been intensified in sensitive areas and security beefed up around vital installations including oil and gas pipelines, railway tracks, railway stations, government offices and educational institutions.
Junbeel Mela draws thousands as people witness barter system Amarjyoti Borah Mori gaon, Jan 23
them and probably this was the first step towards the usage of coins.
In the remote past, the needs of men were limited. He did not have to worry much about his requirements of food and shelter. They were met by nature. But in the course of time, when community life developed, exchange of different commodities of daily life became a necessity. So, the barter system of trade came into existence.
It is indeed interesting to note that the ancient and indigenous barter system is probably still in vogue in a few remote corners of the country, and in Assam as well. Perhaps these remain unnoticed by the more advanced society. Such an instance was witnessed today morning at the historic Junbeel Mela held on the banks of Junbeel, 4 kms from Jagiroad in Morigaon district, in the presence of a large gathering.
But in view of handicaps in the barter system, a common commodity was fixed to serve as an intermediary in all transactions. Certain commodities got preference over others and they assumed the character of a medium of exchange. Higher value was attached to
As per tradition, and on the direction of the ceremonial King of the erstwhile Gobha kingdom, Deepsing Deoraja and Gobha Deoraja Rajdarbar, the primitive form of trade and
commerce was practiced today in the presence of around 4,000 visitors from Karbi Anglong district and some from outside the State, like Meghalaya. The tribals bartered some essential items such as ginger, lac, indigo, mats etc to procure various traditional cakes, fried rice powder, dried fish etc from the plains people. With the necessary food items collected from the plains people, the tribals will celebrate their Bihu. The Uruka of the Bihu of the Gobha tribals will be celebrated tomorrow.

Community fishing, which is another important event associated with the occasion, was held this afternoon at Junbeel, a natural lake located at the site, after which the Mela has derived its name.
Community fishing at Junbeel is a vital part of the festival, which is conducted subject to permission by the Gobha Deoraja Rajdarbar. It plays a big role in fostering the spirit of friendship among different communities. Community fishing was inaugurated by Gobha Deoraja, Deepsing along with its Rajdarbar followers. While inaugurating the barter system of trade, Ramakanta Deuri, Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council along with Chairman Khagen Bordoloi were present. Deputy CEM Mohan Senapati in his speech appealed to one to all to preserve the ancient cultures of the ethnic tribes of the country. He further appealed to the thousands of
hills and plains people assembled at the Mela site to maintain peace and tranquility at this big get-together organised every year. A cultural function was also organised in which several ethnic groups performed with traditional attire on. A total of eight tourists from America, Poland and Estonia visited the Mela. Tomorrow, a Rajdarbar will be organised at the Mela ground in which 18 Rajas from various kingdoms, including Gobha Deoraja and his court members, besides other dignitaries will assemble. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also attended the Rajadarbar today, and spoke there today.
