Pul (2nd from right) addressing the media. cluding himself. Meanwhile, in the meeting that ensued, the Congress legislators while declaring former CM and CLP leader Nabam Tuki of having lost the confidence of the majority, unanimously declared withdrawal of their support to ex-CM Nabam Tuki and thereafter, selected incumbent CM Kalikho Pul as the CLP leader. Also, resolving to stand united and work for strengthening the party under the leadership of Kalikho Pul, the legislators present in the CLP meeting also made an appeal to all the remaining INC legislators and the party workers to come forward and “join the legitimate majority led by the newly elected leader of the INC Party, Kalikho Pul.” Later, addressing the media
persons, Pul informed that he had initially had the support of 34 Congress legislators and accordingly, started their protest against the leadership of Nabam Tuki. However, alleging that many of those legislators were deceived into signing a support letter to Tuki’s leadership after the leakage of their proposed protest, Pul went on to claim that the many of those Congress legislators were forced to side with Tuki and constantly kept under duress. Adding that two former MLAs viz Gabriel Wangsu and Sawin were disqualified ‘undemocratically’ after they protested subsequent upon revelation of the intent of the papers they signed, CM Pul maintained that the development led to a fear psychosis among other
legislators and forced them to stay under Tuki’s leadership. Reiterating on this, Likha Saaya informed that initially there were 17 MLAs who were deceived into signing the resignation letters. Still later, another letter of same intent was made to sign to all the 26 MLAs. Accordingly, Saaya while reasoning that their support towards Tuki’s leadership were all under duress, also went on to assert that the majority of the Congress legislators have in principle, always supported the leadership of Kalikho Pul for all these time. Further, asserting that Kalikho Pul now enjoys the support of the Congress legislatures along with that of the BJP MLAs and also the Independent legislators, Saaya also appealed on the AICC members to accept the reality and not be misguided.
