Deeply concerned over trails of devastation caused by the incessant rain triggered flood in Arunachal Pradesh, state chief minister Pema Khandu has been constantly seeking the union government’s support in overcoming the situation. In his meeting with the Prime Minister on Sunday, Pema had apprised him about the grim flood situation of the state. As a follow up action, Khandu met Union Minister of Home affairs Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today and sought their immediate attention and assistance in sending a central team to assess the flood situation and the consequent damages caused to property so that relief and rehabilitation process could be put into action at the earliest. Woman looted by miscreants in railway station Golaghat, July 25: A woman named Anjali Binnani, wife of noted businessman RM Binnani of Golaghat was looted at Furkating Railway Junction in Golaghat today. According to the report, Anjali Binnani was at the junction to travel to Guwahati in the Intercity Express when some unknown persons spread some itching powder on her and looted her mobile phone and other valuable things. Chief Minister Pema Khandu calls on AICC President Sonia Gandhi

Kanubari, 25 July: Members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) State UnitArunachal Pradesh gave a two days ultimatum to one Wangnyem Wangsu , an Assistant Teacher in Government Higher Secondary School, Kanubari in Longding district for allegedly defaming the members of students Union in Whatsapp. Members of NSUI stated in an official press release that Wangnyem have defamed the members of the Union by publishing false and baseless statement in whatsapp, a messaging social medium. “ We intimidate Sri Wangnyem Wangsu (AT) to apologise in written form to the office of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), State Unit- Arunachal Pradesh within 2 (two) days or to face consequences as per the court of cyber law on defamation case under Information Technology Act- 2000 under section 66A,” stated NSUI. Weeklong of rains has left a trail of devastation in Lohit district, though the river has started receding after improved in weather condition on or after today’s noon, the fury has jolted the district. However, Changliang village situated at 7 Km distance from the township was the most sufferer. As the Dhura river has played spoilsports and caused damages to road and entered part of Changliang village forcing few families to shift safer locations/relief camps. The village is still cut off in terms of surface communication where huge debris of mud carried by the river restricted the movement of villagers.

Incessant rain has disrupted road connectivity in many parts of Lower Dibang Valley district as flood creates havoc turning life topsy-turvy. Multiple land slips have blocked Roing-Anini route, numerous culverts have been washed away. Eze or Deopani river flowing next to township too is rumbling as muddy and ferocious current is seen in the river, making the bridge to Roing-Anini road over the it inaccessible.However, a dilapidated hanging bridge over the river is keeping alive the life line open.

Hanging bridge damaged at Miao Indrajit Tingwa Miao, July 25

The three decades old hanging bridge over Namphuk river at Ningrang village under Miao Sub-Division was damaged yesterday due to the heavy rains and ensuing floods. The bridge is the only means of crossing the Namphuk river for the villagers of Ningrang and Nayang villages to reach their rice fields. All the rice fields of Ningrang village is located across the river.

Dambuk remains cut off as Dibang river flows above danger level. Brahamputra River too is over flowing.

A villager from Ningrang says that now being the peak wet rice cultivation season the damage of the bridge which is the only means of crossing the Namphuk river is very unfortunate. The villagers are hoping that the concerned authorities will immediately repair the bridge so that the agricultural activities is not hampered.

The flood situation continued to remain grim in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district. In Dibrugarh district, 74,286 people have been affected by the flood so far. Talking to The Eastern Today, Assam State Disaster Management Authority Project officer Dipjyoti Hatikakoty said that 140 villages in the district have come under the grip of flood. Among them the west revenue circle was mostly affected in the fury of flood. Altogether, 9139.29 hectares of cropland has submerged in flood water. So far 51 relief camps have been open in different areas of the district where 4604 people have been taken shelter. Five wards under Dibrugarh Municipality Board (DMB) have affected in the flood. Under this initiative, the state government will identify three tentative hospitals in the state for setting

up of high end X Ray and Ultrasound digital machines (approx cost: Rs 2.50 Crores). These machines would be provided by Samsung Electronics under CSR.

Eight villages in Sadiya sub-division were also inundated by flood water. 28,553.89 hectares of land including 1498.32 hectares cropland were submerged by flood waters. Tinsukia district public relation officer Hem Chandra Pathak said that 19 relief camps have been set up in the district. In all, 5,140 people have taken shelter in the camps. On Monday, a flood review meeting was called by Tinsukia DC Puru Gupta which was attended by various departmental heads. The DC directed officials to intensify flood relief measures across the district. The district administration has formed eight medical teams for the aid of the affected people. Tinsukia scribe threatened for filing news report, FIR registered Spl Correspondent Tinsukia, July 24 The increasing crime and threats against the fourth pillar of democracy was once again witnessed here in Tinsukia on Monday after a scribe associated with a local Assamese daily, Dainik Janambhumi, was allegedly threatened of dire consequences for reporting on a matter connected to the Sarba Shiksha Abhijan. “One Utpal Baruah, called this morning at around 10.26 and abused me and threatened to cut me into pieces,” the scribe, Pranab Phukan said and added that he has registered a FIR in this connection. He said, the matter related to a news report published by him in connection with Sarba Shiksha Abhijan where he had exposed an order directing all government schools running mid - day meal to procure gas connection with immediate effect and only from a Panitola based gas agency.
