Dissidence growing in Lakhimpur due to alleged ‘autocracy’ of Sarbananda Sonowal Senior party observers MP Kamakhya Tasa and party VP Shantanu Bharali in Lakhimpur ET Correspondent Lakhimpur; Dec 25
With a view to prepare the panel of the BJP's MLA candidates from the four constituencies of Lakhimpur for the next assembly election, observers Kamakhya Tasa and Shantanu Bharali today arrived in the district. It is noteworthy that as observers, Kamakhya Tasa, the MP of Jorhat Constituency and Shantanu Bharali, the Vice President of the party will enlist the name of three intending persons as MLA candidates for Bihpuriya, Nowboicha, Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhona
Sarbananda Sonowal Legislative Assembly Constituencies. On this occasion, they interacted with the party activist in the Lakhimpur Circuit House.
Politiking had already started in the district was evident with the fact that the entire atmosphere was filled with slogans by supporters of ticket seekers as the observers arrived at the Circuit House. Especially, more than hundred supporters of Uday Sankar Hajarika began to demand Hazarika’s candidature for Lakhimpur LAC displaying placards and shouting slogans as 'Uday Sankar Hajarika is our candidate', 'No candidature to rootless candidates', 'Don't deprive the deserving candidates' etc. It was interesting to note that the party workers were oppos-
ing the ‘politics’ of none other than but union sports minister and state BJP President Sarbananda Sonowal. According to them, Sonowal prefers only those candidates who are close to him without taking any account of their grassroot level association with the party. "A section of state BJP leaders have already secretly prepared the candidate list. The arrival of the observer is only for show''- a party worker alleged. On the other hand the observers expressed that only the competent candidates would be selected for the MLA candidates for the constituencies.

It is as if this time Bihu had advanced for the village”, the 82-year old Suren Baruah, elder brother of Anup Chetia said. Baruah lives with his wife Dibyalata and son Arup at Jeraigaon. Chetia and Ulfa Commander-in-chief
Paresh Baruah are from Jeraigaon and were at the helm of affairs when the organization was formed in 1979. Due to this reason only, Jeraigaon has seen series of atrocities unleashed by the security forces in the past in the name of conducting counter insurgency operations. “Those are black chapters of the past, what the people of Jeraigaon have gone through nobody can imagine. Let us not discuss these things today”.
