Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) President Amit Shah today started the saffron brigade’s poll campaign for the 2016 Assam state legislative assembly elections by promising a slew of developmental schemes for the state if the party is voted to power. However, Shah made a glaring mistake during his speech by wrongly showering praise upon former state party President Siddhartha Bhattacharaya for the party’s victory in 7 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats during the 2014 parliamentary elections. “It was under the leadership of Bhattacharaya we won 7 out of the 14 seats which laid the foundation for our victory in 2016. Now under Sarbananda Sonowal we will have to achieve the victory in 2016”, he said.

If reports of cargo helicopters to be engaged to do the job with immediate effect are anything to go by, the system of using porters to carry PDS items in Arunachal Pradesh is soon going to be a thing of the past. The credit of introducing the porter system goes to former chief minister Gegong Apang and it has been in vogue for several decades to transport PDS items in far-flung areas
where road communication is a distant dream. At a meeting called by the chief secretary Ramesh Negi here, the Principal Secretary (finance) Satya Gopal revealed the government's decision in this connection. Earlier, though the state government had on several occasions decided to stop the porter system, protests from various contractors and organizations had prohibited it from replacing the existing system. AASU demands implementation of Assam accord Shambhu Boro Tezpur, Nov 27: Demanding implementation of every clause of Assam Accord and protesting in connection with extradition of illegal foreigners on the basis of religion, the All Assam Students’ Union held a mega rally at Jaimati Pothar here today. The rally was participated by about 27 organizations of the state and among others was addressed by AASU chief adviser, Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya. In his speech Dr. Bhattacharya coming down heavily on the alleged indifferent attitude of both state and the central government over the long pending demand of proper implementation of Assam Accord said that the indigenous people’s rights must be given priority in Assam. “We cannot allow anybody to make Assam a land for the foreigners. In Assam only the command of the Assamese people will prevail.” He said. Saying every person coming illegally to Assam after March 24, 1971 has to be deported at any cost. Dr. Bhattacharya further stated that during the six-year-long Assam agitation from 1979 to 1985, a total of 855 people had sacrificed their lives for the
Assamese nation. In the later years the Assam accord was inked by the then Prime Minister Rajib Gandhi with the top priority of settling the foreigners’ issue. “But it is a matter of serious concern that in spite of elapse of 30 years of the very accord not a single government sitting both in state as well as the centre has been seen giving priority on the serious issue. Governments are allegedly dishonouring the 855 martyrs by exploiting Assam and the Assamese people.” He alleged, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to the election in many election rallies in Assam committed that if it came to power it would deport the illegal Bangladeshis within 24 hours of formation of their government. But the BJP government has failed to execute the commitment, he added. “Instead of doing that they have done all sorts of things to give land of Assam to Bangladesh; not only that now they are neglecting the historic Assam accord.” He alleged adding that the Tarun Gogoi led state government is seen supporting the same shamelessly. “AASU’s stand is that it never supports the
Mizoram: CM's brother LalThanzara wins assembly seat Aizawl, Nov 27: Congress's Lal Thanzara, former Mizoram minister and likely political heir to five-time Chief Minister LalThanhawla, won bypolls to the Aizawl North III constituency in a landslide victory where he won more votes than both his opponents combined. Thanzara won 6,175 (56 per cent) of the 10,916 votes polled. LalThanzara had quit the seat in August following opposition attacks after an expose by online news portal Scroll.in claimed he held more than 21 per cent equity shares in a Delhi-based company that was given several contracts through the PWD by his brother CM LalThanhawla. The opposition had mounted further attacks by making public documents that showed a firm he owned had been supplying over Rs 22 crore worth of "high-protein" biscuits to the state's anganwadis at a time he held posts of Parliamentary Secretary
and MoS in his brother's government. Emerging from the votecounting centre soon after results were formally declared at 9.45 am, LalThanzara said: "I received more votes than I hoped for because people felt sorry for me and what I faced." He continued to deny any wrongdoing in the shares and biscuits scandals and accused the opposition of spreading rumours. "I think this result shows that people are not impressed with attacks based on lies. So my hope and belief is that parties will learn from this experience and stop taking the initiative to attack opponents with lies. Today, I think it is extremely significant that the people of the constituency have given me more votes than ever and that my opponents' votes combined trail by more than 1,500 votes in spite of me being attacked hard during the election campaign," he said. protection to the illegal foreigners on the basis of religion.” The AASU chief adviser said. The mega rally witnessed participation of about ten thousand protesters from different organizations including ABSU, AJYCP, Sonitpur District Carpenter and Labour Union and Motor Union. It started from Jaimoti Pothar, passed through the town and ended in front of the DC office here. Later briefing the media persons the AASU leader further demanded the government to
seal the Indo-Bangla border, permanent solution to flood and erosion problem of the state, protection of tribal belt block and Kaziranga and Majuli and the issue of ST status to the six communities of the state. In the same context, urging the union minister, Sarbananda Sonwal to show sincerity in dealing with the state’s every issue he said, “We need result not dialogue.” He said; terming Narendra Modi a capable leader of the world, he also urged him to
finalise agreement with the neighbouring country Bangladesh on the influx issue. “Do the needful to push back the illegal Bangladeshis, then we will understand that Narendra Modi is a capable leader of the world.” He said. Urging the BJP government to make their stand clear on illegal Bangladeshi issue Bhattacharya, he further said that if the BJP does not show loyalty towards these issues they will be taught a lesson in the forthcoming Assembly election 2016.
CSE calls for global action to develop safety nets to shield farmers from extreme weather events A Staff Reporter New Delhi, Nov 27: On the final day of the National Consultation on Crop Loss Estimation, Relief and Compensation, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) called for global action to develop safety nets to shield farmers from the consequences of extreme weather events. “The negotiators at the climate talks, starting shortly in Paris, need to be mindful of the impact of changing climate on agriculture, and the devastating consequences it has on farmers as well as the food security prospects of the world,” said CSE’s Deputy Director General Chandra Bhushan who is leading a delegation of CSE specialists and Indian media to Paris. On Thursday evening, CSE report on the impact of extreme weather events on Indian agriculture, “Lived anomaly: How to enable farmers in India to cope with extreme weather events” was released by eminent scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, Agriculture Secretary Siraj
Husain, social activist Yogendra Yadav, CSE Director General Sunita Narain and Deputy Director General Chandra Bhushan. Dr Swaminathan said the impact of weather events on agriculture was indicated by the fact that India recently imported 10 million tones of pulses. “Fifty years ago when India started the green revolution, it was importing 10 million tonnes of wheat. We seems to be back to the same situation because of climate change” he said. Discussing CSE’s new report, Bhushan said the world had seen an unprecedented increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. In the decade of 1900-1910, the world saw 2.5 extreme weather events per year. In the decade of 2000-10, this went up to 350. In the past twenty years, India is one of the top three countries which saw the largest numbers of such events. The impact of extreme weather events on India’s agriculture is growing. In early 2015, as many as 15 states
were affected and 33 per cent of the cropped areas were damaged. The loss to farmers were in excess of Rs. 20,000 crore (US$ 4 billion). “In such situations, we need universal access to compensation mechanisms like crop insurance to improve the coping abilities of farmers to deal with extreme weather event,” said Bhushan. Speaking at the release function, M S Swaminathan warned about the challenges posed by climate change to India’s food security and pointed towards the 2006 report of the National Commission on Farmers which had dealt with issues of building safety nets for dealing with extreme weather events. Warning of agriculture becoming unviable for farmers, Sunita Narain, Director General, CSE said, “It is important that farming becomes viable with better policies and protection, so that villages are not depopulated, causing serious employment issues and social problems.”

DIBRUGARH, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28
Itanagar Naharlagun road to be opened CM launched Make in from Monday next for all traffic- says Gadi Manipur campaign Imphal, Nov 27: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign, Chief Minister O Ibobi on Thursday launched Make in Manipur campaign with the primary objective of employment generation. The new campaign is aimed at generating employment avenues in different sectors which can provide jobs to unemployed youth and generate more revenue for the State. Notably, the State's economy hinges on the service sector while manufacturing sector constitutes just 4.7 per cent. The Chief Minister launched the Make in Manipur campaign at City Convention Centre here at the event. Speaking at the launching function, Ibobi assured all possible assistance to the State's transport sector, power sector and other key economic sectors. The State Government has been working hard to develop an IT hub. Once the IT hub is developed, trained IT professionals who hail from Manipur but have been working in different cities of India and abroad can come back and work in their home State, Ibobi stated. Nowadays, manufacturing industries
run by private entrepreneurs are more successful as compared to public sector undertakings. This does not mean the Government has no intention to take up public sector companies. Many manufacturing industries taken up by the State Government in the past ended in abject failures as they proved to be economically not viable. Pointing out that the State's law and order situation has been impeding economic development of the State, Ibobi rued that the Government's attempt to ensure round the clock power supply could have been achieved years back had the Loktak Downstream Project been implemented in time. Following the murder of the Chief Engineer, the project could not be implemented till date. Had the Phase-II of Manipur Sericulture Project, which was fully supported by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), technically and financially, been implemented in time, the project would have already paid rich dividends, he added. However, after some JICA officials were abducted for ransom, the agency is not willing to invest any money
in Manipur. Nonetheless, implementation of Manipur Sericulture Project Phase-II has been initiated after mobilization of available funds, Ibobi stated. Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that the Make in Manipur campaign is aimed at making Manipur economically self reliant. With a view to export horticulture products of the State to South East Asian countries including Bangladesh, the State Government has been working to set up adequate number of food processing units. The inauguration of a multi-storeyed shopping complex at Moreh yesterday would certainly give a fillip to the Indo-Myanmar border trade, Gaikhangam asserted. Chief Minister O Ibobi also launched a mapping service based on General Information System (GIS) which can monitor all activities related to the Manipur Sericulture Project. Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA E Chand, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary (Sericulture) L Lakher and Commissioner (Commerce and Industries) VK Dewangan were also present at the function. Thin crowd at GTA Constitution Day Event Darjeeling, Nov 27: A GTA event to posthumously honour Ari Bahadur Gurung, who had represented the Gorkhas in the Constituent Assembly, turned out to be a damp squib today with many members of the GTA Sabha and officials of the hill body keeping away. A GTA Sabha member who didn't want to be named suggested that the low turnout was on account of GTA chief executive Bimal Gurung's absence. "When Gurung is there, everyone wants to show their face but when he is not around, not many are bothered about any event irre-
spective of its importance. This has become a trend," he said. Gurung is presently in New Delhi to meet the Union home minister. Ari Bahadur, a signatory to the Constitution, is referred to by the Indian Gorkhas to rebut the allegations that they are foreigners. Udai Gurung, son of Ari, was felicitated at the event held to celebrate the Constitution Day. By the time the celebration at the Gorkha Rangamanch Bhavan ended around 2pm, the hall was almost empty. Less than half of the auditorium with a seating capacity of 864 was filled when the
celebration began around 11.30am. "We had sent invitation to all GTA Sabha members, GTA executive directors and other officials and also to representatives of different communities. Invitation had also been sent to all councillors of Darjeeling municipality. In total, we had sent about 350 invitation letters," said an official of the GTA's information and cultural affairs department which conducted the programme. Binay Tamang, the executive GTA Sabha member in charge of information and cultural affairs department, touched upon the
low turnout in his speech. "Despite an official announcement by the GTA and invitation being sent to all, the hall, which should actually be overflowing, is not even full. It is a very sad day. We talk about our constitutional rights but we also need to honour everything related to the Constitution." He also announced that a statue of Ari Bahadur would be installed at Lal Kothi. It might be mentioned that Sonowal was the state party President during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. It was only after Sonowal was made a minister in Modi’s cabinet, Bhattacharaya took over as the state party President in August, 2014. “Shah should have done his home work properly before coming to Dibrugarh. This kind of a mistake exposes the lack of seriousness within the party’s top brass when it comes to issues related to states like Assam”, a senior BJP leader in Dibrugarh said. In his speech delivered during the party workers rally held at the Dibrugarh old Govt. High School playground, here, Shah promised that Assam will have double lane railway tracks, permanent border fencing and a permanent solution to the perennial problems of floods and erosion. The BJP President also came down heavily upon state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi by saying that Gogoi has failed on all fronts and massive corruption has become the
order of the day in all government departments of Assam. On the much talked political alliance between Congress and the AIUDF, Shah made a sarcastic remark by saying, “En dino Congress aur AIUDF ke beech me ILU..ILU..chal raha hain….” A secret bonhomie is going on between the Congress and the AIUDF these days. He also dared Tarun Gogoi to come in the open and talk with the AIUDF. “If the Congress comes to power with the assistance from AIUDF, Assam will become a part of Bangladesh. He also appealed to the party workers to devote full time for the next four months to generate awareness at the grass root level and the voters about the several welfare schemes initiated by the Modi-led NDA government at the centre. Delivering his speech, union minister and newly appointed Assam Pradesh BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal, said, “If we want to win the 2016 election, we have to be united and work from the grass root level which was
evident during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,’’ Criticizing Tarun Gogoi he said recently Chief Minister made a remark that BJP is not controlled by the Assamese people but by the hindi speaking people. “I would like to let the Chief Minister of Assam know that BJP is not controlled by any outsider but by the leaders from Assam. I Sarbananda Sonowal am the President of BJP, Assam and I belong to Assam”, he said which evoked a thunderous round of applause from the thousands of workers who attended the rally. He also said that Assam will demand for five more bridges over the Brahmaputra, double tracks of railways, ST status for six communities of the state, etc if it comes to power. “Modiji has initiated a special plan for the NE and Assam due to which one minister has to come down to the region in every 15 days and review schemes which are implemented under his ministry. Earlier former Congress minister Himanta Biswa Sarma too launched a scathing attack on state CM Tarun Gogoi for adhering to the politics of yarn and the blanket. Sarma, who has been recently given the charge of convenor of the party’s election committee said that Gogoi does not wants the youths of Assam to prosper due to which he did not initiate any schemes to provide jobs to the 23 lakhs unemployed youths of Assam. Making an indirect reference to Gaurav Gogoi becoming an MP from Assam, Sarma asked is this not an injustice that you will make your son an MP and let our sons lag behind by only handing over some yarn to them. “If BJP is voted to power we will ensure employment to the unemployed youths of Assam within 15 months which the
Tarun Gogoi government could not do in 15 years. We will provide jobs to our unemployed youths so that they can earn money and buy yarn for their mothers and sisters in a respectable way”, he said. We will ensure that like Gujrat, people of Assam too can enjoy uninterrupted power supply, arsenic free drinking water and the other facilities which are being enjoyed by the other developed states of India, Sarmah said. signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the United People's Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) and Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) on November 25, 2011 and October 8, 2013 respectively. These two MoSs with the armed groups born out of the issue of statehood are yet to be ratified by the Parliament. Later, the demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through SDO (C) Bokajan briefing the provisions for creation of a hill state within the present state
of Assam. The memorandum stated that the Autonomous Council of both the hill district had passed unanimous resolutions demanding statehood and even the elected representatives in the Assembly and Parliament had raised the issue on several occasions. The memorandum also drew the attention of the Prime Minister towards creation of the state of Meghalaya back in 1969, comprising the hill district of Khasi and Jaintia Hills and Garo hills of the state
of Assam under the sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution. Back then, the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong (earlier Mikir Hills) and Dima Hasao (earlier North Cachar Hills) were administered under the same sixth schedule provisions but, did not join Meghalaya and were promised of Autonomous State status whenever required by incorporating Article 244 (A) in the constitution of India. However, the Government of India has yet failed to incorporate the same on grounds. On the other hand, the government of India has created the states of Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh although there was no Parliamentary Commitment or any special constitutional provision. Lately, the Government of India had also created the state of Telangana despite the fact that the Srikrishna Commission constituted by the Government of India had opposed the move, the memorandum added.

"The Governor office is the most responsible office, but he is not maintaining its dignity. He says Hindustan belongs to the Hindus and Muslims can go to Pakistan,"
said the Chief Minister in response to Acharya's widely reported remark that "Hindustan is for Hindus" and "Indian Muslims were free to go to Bangladesh or Pakistan". The Chief Minister alleged that Acharya

Tarun Gogoi sees BJP’s evil designs to establish ‘Hindu Rashtra’ A Staff Reporter Guwahati, Nov 27: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi observed that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s comment that the architect of the Constitution had never thought of putting the term ‘secularism’ in the Preamble but it was incorporated later through a constitutional amendment is a clear indication of BJP’s evil designs of establishing a ‘Hindu Rashtra’. In a statement on Friday, Chief Minister Gogoi said, “Union Home Minister’s comment on ‘secularism’ is a direct aberration of the BJP from the tenets of the Preamble and exposes the party’s hobnobbing with the RSS ideology”. He moreover said the ruling dispen-
sation at the Centre together with the RSS is encouraging the divisive and communal forces to realize their communal agenda. Gogoi also said that such direct ‘endorsement’ is responsible for fanning out ‘intolerance’ which the country has been inflicted with for the last few months. Blaming the divisive and communal forces to vitiating the age old co-existence of the country, Gogoi also said that such forces are also responsible for threatening the unity and integrity of the Nation and is an attempt to subvert the time-tested democratic principles of the Country. Chief Minister Gogoi also said that BJP President Amit Shah’s remark that “if by mistake BJP
loses the polls in Bihar, crackers will go off in Pakistan” is a clear reflection of the BJP ‘one-line’ agenda. Gogoi also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stoic silence to tame such forces when they reared their ugly heads to disturb the secular fabric of the country. “Situation had come to such a pass that the President Pranab Mukherjee had to remind the country of its core values of plurality, tolerance and diversity”, he added. Gogoi also said, “India is a multi-religious, multicultural and multilingual country and its core characteristics viz. justice, liberty, equality and fraternity will be maintained only if its essence ‘secularism’ is professed and honoured with all sanguinity.”

IITF: Bihar pavilion bags award
New Delhi, Nov 27: The 35th edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) organised by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) with the themes "Swachh Bharat Mission" and "Make in India" attracted huge crowd this year. The fair attracted a large number of people with some of the exhibitors giving credit to the intense response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India mantra. Over 7,000 domestic and foreign firms took part in the IITF 2015. Firms from over 28 countries participated. ITPO had announced a special category award to the best State Pavilion dedicated to the Swachh Bharat initiative. The Bihar pavilion bagged the best pavilion award this year too. The
award will be presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at Shakuntalam theatre on Friday. Although several initiatives were taken by the authorities to create awareness about cleanliness, people paid little attention to these efforts. The garbage bins placed outside every pavilion and near food stalls were found cluttered. The restrooms were also unkempt. Who is to be blamed? The garbage spilled over the places near dustbins is an indication that "Swacch Bharat Mission" initiative taken by the government is going in vain. It's not only the government's responsibility to ensure cleanliness but also the people. They still lack basic sense of cleanliness. The 15 days long fair will conclude on Friday. (Agencies)

Naidu defends Rajnath, says India 'most secular' nation
New Delhi, Nov.27: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday defended Home Minister Rajnath Singh's statement in the Lok Sabha on Thursday adding that India is the most secular country in the world and that there was nothing wrong with what the latter had said. "As far as secularism is concerned nobody is questioning secularism. Secularism has been abused. That is what has been
said in honourable Home Minister's statement, what is wrong in this? Unfortunately what is happening in this country is that people who prop up casteist, communal politics, they always try to take shelter under secularism whenever their existence is under threat," Naidu told in an exclusive interview here. "People who align with fundamentalist organizations, communal organizations, they try to criticize others saying that you are communal. The people who have aligned with communal parties are playing divisive politics. Let the debate go on but our commitment to the constitution is final. This country is secular in nature and secularism is
very much in our genes. India is the most secular country in the world," he added. Naidu also presented the view of an Arab journalist labelling India as the most tolerant nation. "I was just reading an article by an Arab journalist. He says India is the most tolerant nation in the world. He said that inspite of hundred religions and over hundred languages people live in peace and harmony. They all join to build a strong nation. He says that I feel jealous because I come from that part of the world which has only one religion and one language, yet there are killing everywhere. This only shows that some people in our country are trying to score political brownie points on
the issue of secularism," Naidu said. Rajnath Singh on Thursday had said Dr. Ambedkar, the principle architect of the Constitution didn't find it necessary to insert 'Socialist' and 'Secular' words in the Preamble as he felt it's already in our basic nature adding that secular is the most misused word in Indian politics. "Dr Ambedkar didn't find it necessary to insert 'Socialist' and 'Secular' words in the Preamble because he felt it's already in our basic nature. If there's is any word which is being misused in Indian politics, that is 'Secular'," Rajnath said, while addressing the Lok Sabha on the first day of the Winter Session of the Parliament (ANI)

We want a cap on the tax as we don't want the poor to pay any taxes," Gandhi said. Manila, Nov 27: Eight members of a criminal gang that pledged allegiance to Islamic State jihadists were killed in a firefight with the military in the southern Philippines, officials said today. The hour-long battle took place on Thursday in Palimbang, a remote town in the south - home to the predominantly Catholic nation's Muslim minority and the scene of decades of conflict. The bandits were from Ansar al-Khalifa, a small group that declared its support for Is-
lamic State in a video circulated on the Internet last year, regional military spokesman Major Filemon Tan said. The military has said that support for Islamic State which controls vast swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq - in the Philippines was limited to local bandits claiming allegiance to the group. But it has said there is no evidence showing that such gangs were receiving support from the jihadists. The larger Abu Sayyaf group, a United States-listed terrorist organisation that is holding at least four for-
eign nationals hostage and has demanded millions of dollars in ransom, has likewise pledged allegiance to IS.Tan told media that five black flags similar to those used by Islamic State fighters were recovered from the bandits after the clash.Criminal gangs operate kidnap for ransom and extortion activities alongside Muslim and communist separatist campaigns in the restive south. While the relatively new Ansar alKhalifa had extorted from businessmen and stolen cattle from farmers, it had no proven links

Bangladesh Govt. dismisses UN claim on war criminals' hanging
Dhaka, Nov. 27: The Government of Bangladesh has ruled out the claim by the United Nations that the trial of the war criminals was unfair, saying that the statement was disturbing. According to media, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Tuesday called on Bangladesh to stop implementing death sentences awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) because of what it said was the fairness of the trials conducted by the court had been questioned. While the in-
ternational community has said the trial of atrocities committed more than four decades ago during the liberation war as an effort to end the culture of impunity in the country, some quarters are making sweeping, biased and unfounded comments, said the foreign affairs ministry in a press release. The UN's statement had come in response to the execution of war criminals Salauddin Quader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed of the Jamaat-e-Islami. Chinese activist sentenced to 6 years in jail
on November 26 being included in the commemorations.Responding to appearance of posters in Jaffna University premises calling for events marking Heroes' Day, Mr Gunasekera said the police will take legal action against those involved.Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who oversaw the military campaign that crushed
the LTTE in 2009, said that the government must take action to prevent the commemorations."I have information that there are plans to commemorate the day and re-visit the Eelam (a separate Tamil state) demand. It will be the government's duty to stop that," he said. Mr Rajapaksa accused the government of Maithripala Sirisena of
going soft on LTTE supporters. He also criticised the release of some LTTE supporters by the government recently. The LTTE battled Sri Lankan forces for three decades for a separate Tamil homeland. Rights groups claim government forces killed nearly 40,000 civilians in the final months of the brutal ethnic conflict. (Agencies)

DIBRUGARH, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28
New horizon for Paradise Unexplored The statement Hindustan is for Hindus Assam Governor P B Acharya was caught in another controversy as he said that Indian Muslims are free to go anywhere, including Pakistan and Bangladesh. His remark came a day after he was reported to have said that "Hindustan is for Hindus". However, he stirred a fresh row, with his response to a question on Indian Muslims who face persecution. "They (Indian Muslims) are free to go anywhere. They can stay here (in India). If they want to go to Bangladesh or Pakistan, they are free to go. Many of them have gone to Pakistan. But if they are persecuted there‌ Taslima Nasreen was persecuted there, she came here. If they come, we will give them shelter," said Acharya. But later the Governor trying to flee away from the controversy said that he did not just say Hindustan is only for Hindus. Instead he also said Hindus from different countries can come and stay in India. The Congress accused Acharya of converting the Raj Bhavan into "a den of the RSS", and sought his immediate removal. The Congress leaders are of the opinion that this Governor has been entangled in one controversy after another since the day he assumed office. No other Governor in India has landed in so many controversies. In an earlier instance which took place a few months ago, he spoke against the Congress at a public meeting in Silchar. He also appointed several RSS members in the Dibrugarh University Court, thus depriving efficient people and scholars. He has converted the Raj Bhavan into a den of the RSS in the past few months. The Congress members demanded his immediate removal. Even BSP president Mayawati demanded his immediate dismissal and action against him as per the law. Terming usage of inciting, undignified and hatred spreading statements as a new dangerous ailment faced by the country along with intolerance, she said ever since NDA government came to power at the Centre people associated with BJP and company have become intolerant which has damaged social and communal atmosphere of the country. But on the other hand, Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju sought to defend Assam Governor P B Acharya over his controversial remarks. Taking a jibe at Assam Governor P B Acharya, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan said Muslims would prefer 'kabristan' over Pakistan and suggested that he can go to Nepal, if he has any problem staying with the minority community. According to him, all these things are an insult to the constitution. Whatever happened in 1992 was also against the constitution. The mosque was demolished there (Ayodhya). Now, Ram temple is there. Repeating the same thing is an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere. If Assam Governor has made such a remark, it is very unfortunate on the part of him and a matter of shame for all Indians irrespective of what religions or customs they follow. India is a country which is known all over the globe for its unity in diversity. It is a land where people from different communities live in together. And for a Governor from such a land to produce such a remark is a matter to which the central government should act as soon as possible.
The created storm Battle of Perceptions and Images Strangely enough it was the same day, that one of the most prominent stars of India's biggest cultural export, the Hindi film industry, was making headlines for his worry about the rising intolerance in the country over the last six to eight months. The statement surprised many and Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher were a few among them. Aamir Khan's statement did not go well with those who believe that intolerance controversy is being created by a group of opportunists. Aamir was not the first one who spoke about "growing intolerance in India". The superstar Khans -- Shahrukh and Salman too had expressed their views and joined the debate. But Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher turned to microblogging site Twitter and criticised Aamir Khan. Anupam Kher is known as BJP loyalist, Paresh Rawal is BJP MP from Ahmedabad East, Gujarat. Both Anupam Kher and Paresh Rawal, however, clarified why they do not expect Aamir Khan to join the chorus over "intolerance". Aamir's statement created troubles for Snapdeal too, an online shopping portal he endorses. Enraged internet users' down rated Snapdeal's app on Google play store while many uninstalled the app. Following such a loss, Snapdeal distanced itself from the actor's opinions in a bid to win back customers. Although Shah Rukh Khan has finally withdrawn his statement as straight away denied saying India is intolerant, Aamir Khan still stands with what he has said. Well, the backlash the actors are facing from the fans over their controversial remarks might affect their upcoming films has well. Although, only time will reveal if this so called boycott actually happens or not, but Aamir and SRK's intolerance remarks have indeed sparked a rage amongst the audience The storm created by the film actor's remark points to a more important question which should worry the Modi government and its spin doctors. It is clear that the BJPled NDA government has created a negative image for itself. Its supporters are only strengthening it when they attack dissenters as unpatriotic. Criticising the BJP, the RSS and other right-wing ideologues is not being antinational. The dissenters love the country as much as the right-wingers. It looks like the Modi government is losing the battle of perceptions and images. It is not necessary to view Khan's remark as apocalyptic and there is no need for an furious reaction. Khan's critics would do well to not question the actor's patriotic credentials. There should be a healthy debate on whether there is an atmosphere of intolerance in the country without denying that there have been episodes of intolerance ever since this government has come into office.
Plaban Sharma India, the second largest nation in population within the globe, is rich in diversified culture, people & landscape. Having a wide population of more than one hundred twenty crores, India encompasses a wide manpower which definitely attracts the foreign investors to spread out their business production and manufacturing throughout the nation. Also having high dense population, India emerges as a giant platform for marketers to have a vast market. India's trade relation with its neighboring countries had always been a wide topic of debate. Instead having wide boundaries with the neighbouring countries, India has not yet liberalized to have a decent trading. The India's integration with the world economy has been developing with a significant pace through the trade, but not yet saturated. The trend of Indian foreign trade growth was such that, in 1990 it was recorded US $ 40 billion which had eventually grown to US $ 414 billion in 2007-08. India's trade relation can be observed with
the significant GDP growth from 13.8 per cent in 1984 to 21.1 per cent in 1997 and further to 34.7 per cent in 2008. Hence, India's trade relation has a major impact in its GDP growth due to the implementation of different foreign trade policies, bilateral policies and different domestic and international business policies. Focusing on to Indian boundaries, it has always been a hard relationship with its neighbour for various disputes and scope of a wide collection of debate topics with respect to trade relation. The major boundaries of India includes Pakistan, China, Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh of which various International disputes with boundaries, immigration and smuggling issues can be observed with its neighbours Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Hence, when it comes for the trade relation, the bilateral policies have to be considered with concrete and bigoted. Issues are often observed with these nations, but within this verse, a highly comprehended bilateral International trade relation could drive for a better economic growth and development for all the neighbouring nation and India. When we light towards the boundaries of eastern part of India, the neighbouring countries have been always with a wide range of disputes with many burning issues. The disputes apprehended with Bangladesh are mainly for boundaries issues and
large scale of illegal immigration towards the eastern and the north eastern region of India. Moreover, China and India has always been with the contiguous issues of International boundaries perhaps the Indian indigenous people facing the threat of losing their sovereignty to China. The similar issues have a huge impact on the India's Arunachal Pradesh. Beyond these, some illegal trade and economic disturbances are often observed with Myanmar through the state of Nagaland and Manipur, while these states share a wide International boundary with these countries. Regardless of these innate issues arising from the inception of International boundaries, a lot of efforts have been taken by the government administration of these nations to widen up the trade relation and ceasefire with the external clashes and affairs. Hence to fortify with these issues, many policies and International handshakes has been made to understand the worth of interdependencies of bilateral trades. These policies include the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) to modify the International relations. Following the breakdown of Soviet Union, in 1992 the Look East Policy (LEP) has been launched, just after the inception of liberalization. Before this, India even declined to get associated with the ASEAN agreement in 1960.After the liberalization, the East and South East Asian (SEA) countries realize a wide choice of natural resources and could
have a wide market access and also technological cooperation through foreign investment. Thereby, many SEA countries come across for a bilateral agreement for trading. But due to extensive illegal and uncontrollable external trading and international issues, the policies have been more tightly gripped to control over the trades. But the continuous rigid policies have again pushed the trading beyond the expectation. Hence to concentrate on liberal and legitimate policies, India insisted more on LEP via Act East Policy. The recent International news of India's relation to SouthEast Asian countries says, the integration of trade relation between NE India and SE Asia has been prioritized and focused with an intense concept of Commerce, Culture & Connectivity. The North-Eastern part of India could be the hub for the trade relation with its South-East Asian countries, namely, Cambodia, Laos Myanmar& Vietnam (CLMV). The Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Nirmala Sitharaman said, India is keen to open up its North-Eastern part of India to improve its connectivity with rest of the East and South East Asian countries. The government of India now traces the sectors that hold potential for trade and investment between India and CLMV countries. These included sectors; skill development, agricultural products, manufacturing, project exports and energy. In 2009, India recorded USD
80 billion level with the ASEAN countries on trade with goods. Hence, the government signed FTA with ASEAN countries, which had resulted in USD 100 billion in 2015and expecting further double this value by 2022. The government now highlighted over the need to establish regional and sub-regional value chains in order to maintain and sustain with long term economic relationship with SEA countries. And as India is expecting 7.5 per GDP growth in 2016, the Act East Policy would certainly help for its achievement. There are other policies regarding the strengthening the trade relation of India with SEA countries like, India-ASEAN agreement, the BIMSTEC which is expected to give India's LEP to have a new horizon, the MGC agreement with India and the CMLV countries and Thailand focusing on tourism, culture & infrastructure and IT. There are also bilateral and Economic
corporation agreements which include liberalization of trade in goods and services, bilateral investment promotion and connectivity agreements. The major threats to these agreements are certainly inline with the power or energy issues, infrastructure issues, political agendas, few insurgency and illegal transitions of human and goods, the connectivity issues (both internal & external), the diverse cultures of NE India and natural calamities occurrences as NE India experiences more with floods, landslides, earthquakes etc. Above all the execution of LEP in line with Act East Policy would certainly give a wide prospect of trade and a strong International relation along with the economic growth and development towards NE India. The North Eastern Council developed a marketing tagline, "Paradise Unexplored" (The writer is a 3rd Semester student in the Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University.)
R.I.P India's Influence in Nepal India will pay a diplomatic price for its reaction to Nepal's new constitution. Vishal Arora India's "unofficial" blockade of goods on its side of the Nepal border has successfully shown New Delhi's muscles to its neighbor. However, this act of punishing Nepal for not addressing India's concerns in its new constitution appears to be the first act in a diplomatic suicide. Nepal's border with India has been blocked for more than two months, and is being referred to as another "disaster" following the April 25 earthquake, which killed more than 10,000 people and destroyed hundreds of thousands of houses. The blockade has choked imports of not only petroleum, but also medicines and earthquake relief material. New Delhi has blamed violent protests by Nepal's ethnic Madhesi activists over their displeasure with federal boundaries and representation in parliament and public office, as provided for in the new
constitution. The Madhesh region in southern Nepal is home to people of Indian origin, many of whom still have relatives and friends across the border in India. New Delhi had told Kathmandu, through a leaked document, that it wanted Nepal's constitution to address the concerns of the Madhesi people. India was also hoping that Nepal would either be reinstated as a Hindu nation or drop the word "secular" from its charter. But Nepal's lawmakers didn't oblige, and believe they are now being "disciplined" by "big brother." The blockade is fuelling anti-India sentiment across the country, barring Madhesh. This growing aversion to India is not just a social phenomenon, it also becoming a political reality. Friends, Foes Before the blockade, two of Nepal's largest parties - the Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) were widely seen as sympathetic to India's interests. In the current Constituent
Assembly, the two parties together have 371 of the 601 seats. Today, the two are not counted among India's friends. Meanwhile, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), which has 80 parliamentary seats, was never pro-India. The Rashtriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, a right-wing Hindu party with 24 seats, which unsuccessfully demanded that the country be reinstated as a Hindu nation - echoing the desire of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has publicly criticized New Delhi after the blockade. The math is simple, at least 475 of the 601 Nepal's lawmakers agree with a hashtag that has trended in their country, "back off India." Parties in India's favor include the Terai Madhes Democratic Party with 11 seats, the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal with 15 seats, the Sadbhawana Party with 6 seats, and the Terai Madhes Sadbhawana Party-Nepal with 3 seats, among a few other small parties.
This should be a serious concern for India. India's Role New Delhi has long enjoyed tremendous influence in Nepal, not just because of the latter's economic dependence, but more importantly because of the numerous influential local friends New Delhi had cultivated over the last few decades. It was said - until recently and privately - that Nepal doesn't take any significant political decision without India's approval. Like regional powers elsewhere in the world, India apparently exploited local disputes to achieve its diplomatic goals with the help of its local friends, who do not necessarily hurt their own nation's interests but willingly receive foreign help in matters that can be of mutual gain. It was no coincidence that whoever - be it King Gyanendra or Maoist leader Prachanda sought to counterbalance India's influence in Nepal with that of China, lost power.
It's common knowledge that Nepal's political parties, including the Maoists, had Indian help in abolishing the monarchy in 2006. King Gyanendra allegedly sought China's help in taking in fighting the Maoist, who waged a civil war against the monarchy. It is also widely believed that Prachanda had to resign as prime minister in May 2009 because then President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, a leader of the Nepali Congress, took a stand against Prachanda in his conflict with the then army chief. Prachanda's mistake was that he visited Beijing before paying a visit to New Delhi. A more suitable example could be the 1989 blockade imposed by then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, supposedly due to Kathmandu's growing closeness with China, as was seen in Nepal's procurement of Chinese antiaircraft guns at the time. As a result, New Delhi managed to persuade Nepal to drop the party-
less panchayat system, paving the way for political parties-led governance, though still under the monarchy. The people of Nepal were also against the panchayat system, and, more importantly, the Nepali Congress led the movement for the new political system, which was more reassuring to New Delhi. A New Policy? However, the political circumstances in Nepal have now changed. The sense of sovereignty among the people and political leaders has naturally increased, now that Nepal has a constitution. Moreover, it's only Madhesi leaders who are calling for a constitutional amendment. The Nepali Congress and the Marxist-Leninist party both of which were seen as pro-India until the blockade - agreed to the provisions of the constitution, or perhaps they had no other option given that there were deep ideological divisions in the Constituent Assembly and the new charter emerged from trade-offs between parties.
Preposterous Strategy Sir, Mani Shankar Aiyer, congress Rajya Sabha M.P. seems to lose his mental balance when in an interview with 'Dunia' a Pakistani News Channel, Mr. Aiyer sought the help of Pakistan to remove Narendra Modi from Prime Minister's seat. By so doing, with the full blessings of Sonia Gandhi, the congress President, Mr, Aiyer stooped to an abysmal low to invite such a country that proved to be a thorn in the flesh in the sub continent, constantly provoking India by firing shells in the border killing innocent civilians, trying to destabilize India economically by counterfeit notes, doing all sorts of nefarious diplomacy to belittle India. Asif destabilization of India is Pakistan's obsession. Everyone knows Pakistan is an ideal hub of traitors like Dawood Ibrahim, drecaded Islamic terrorists Laskare-Toiba (LeT). No country with a sense of self-respect can afford to extend its hands of friendship to such an inscrutable country. Congress has a bright and chequered past with stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Abul Kalam Azad, Netaji, and many other Luminaries abdorning the party who relentlessly fought and brought independence. Now, the Present congress is up and doing to tarnish the image of the country lowering its own image before the eyes of the people. This is not to suggest that we are advocating in defence of Modi. But one thing is certain, at least India could get rid of corruption
under Modi who is instrumental in enriching the country's exchequer that got emptied by his predecessor. It would do well if Aiyer refrains from making such preposterous statement by compromising the integrity of the country. We may conclude this a case of show of sycophancy to 'Medam'. Yours etc. Ashok Bordoloi Dibrugarh

Quit Smoking, Or Quit Breathing Ms. R When Aiman quit smoking, he said he could smell things better and the food was tastier. Also he pants less. Earlier Aiman couldn't even swim as he would find it difficult to hold his breath under water. He was an athlete before he got addicted to the deadly habit. After his addiction he couldn't perform well either. A day came when his coach gave him a choice - leave smoking or leave sports. He says the decision to leave smoking was easy made than done. The addiction was taking a toll on him but he channeled his energy into sports practices and now after 6 months of quitting, he's back at the number one position. Also, he says when he quit smoking 20 cigarettes a day; he
saved around Rs. 8000 in 6 months. His teeth have become healthier as the tobacco staining has stopped. His skin is more radiant now and there are no more pimples that he used to get prior to quitting smoke. That's because the skin of a non-smoker gets more nutrients, including oxygen, and can reverse the sallow, lined complexion that smokers often have. A lot of people have experienced life altering results by kicking their bad habits. Every smoker knows smoking is bad for them yet they continue. Because they think 'this can't happen to me'. It's all in the mind… If so, can you explain the picture of the lungs here? The picture shows two lungs - one of a healthy human's, the other of a smoker's. After Aiman kicked the smoking habit
his senses of smell and taste got a boost as his body recovered from being dulled by the hundreds of toxic chemicals in cigarettes. Smoking has other side effects as well. Smoking during pregnancy affects an unborn child. Developmental growth and birth weight in babies of smoking mothers is lower than babies of non-smoking mothers. These same "smoking" babies are more likely to be shorter in height, slower at reading and lower in "social adjustment" than children of nonsmoking mothers. Ones bad habits are not justifiable if they affect another human's life. Especially that of a new born child that has as much right to live freely in the world as everyone else. Smoking during pregnancy takes the right of a normal life from the still unborn child. A
heavy price the child pays for a smoking mother's habit. Quitting smoking improves the body's blood flow, so improves sensitivity. This enhances their sex lives. It's also been found that non-smokers are three times more appealing to the opposite sex than smokers (one of the advantages, perhaps, of smelling fresh). Most people look hot to others until they put that cigarette in their mouths. Nonsmokers find it easier to get pregnant. Quitting smoking improves the lining of the womb and can make men's sperm more potent. Becoming a non-smoker increases the possibility of conceiving through IVF and reduces the likelihood of having a miscarriage. Most important of all, it improves the chances of giving birth to a healthy baby. Stopping smoking has been found to slow facial
Is Beauty Over-rated in India? Shreya Krishnan To start off, what does beauty mean to each one of us? Is it a state of mind, perception or per se something measurable? Do we consider ourselves beautiful? Pretty tough one to answer, I agree. And there is no structured definition to understand beauty. In a general sense, what appeals to our eyes and minds probably would be closest to calling beautiful. In India, beauty is increasingly getting associated with certain pre-defined characteristics. Beauty is synonymously used with being fair. The entire world is moving towards appreciating and loving dusky beauty, and India is moving exactly in the opposite direction. (correct me if I am wrong) India has witnessed probably the maximum number of fairness creams in the world. No surprises here. More than half the nation is wildly thronging the market for it. Fairness creams are increasingly marketed with a strong negative message. Does fairness really contribute to success in life?
And how effective are these products? Is it actually measurable by a common man as to how his complexion has changed? And marketing of these products have a clear intent to convey the message that being fair gives you an extra advantage in life. Each Ad is competing relentlessly to prove that using their product would get you a better job, better husband and what not! Are we so shallow in our thinking to accept this? Or is this a hard truth which all of us accept deep down? Why do we want to convey a message saying that good looks get us a better chance to succeed? From a teenager to the elder, everyone seems to be hooked on to these fairness creams. Where have the tall, "dark", handsome men gone? Why are we now insisting on fairer men? A small discussion with a dermatologist would confirm that you can only prevent a tan and not become fair. Even the educated and intelligent Indian is obsessed with fairness. From the filmdom to a matrimonial hunt, everybody has a predefined picture of
ageing and delay the appearance of wrinkles. Quitting smoking means fresher breath. Ex-smokers are also much less likely than smokers to suffer from gum disease and lose their teeth prematurely. People breathe more easily and cough less when they give up smoking because their lung capacity improves by up to 10% within nine months. In 20s and 30s, the effect of smoking on your lung capacity may not be noticeable until you go for a run, but lung capacity naturally diminishes with age. In later years, having access to maximum lung capacity can make all the difference between having an active, healthy old age and wheezing when going for a walk or climbing the stairs. It's common knowledge that half of all long-term smokers die early (half of them
Many of us would scream our heart out saying it is unfair but deep down; we are part of this unfair discrimination. According to me, Beauty is the depiction of the purity of spirit. As the famous phrase says it, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder", beauty is subjective. There is no accepted form to declare someone beautiful. I really wish people would judge beauty beneath the skin, rather than the perishable complexion.
physical activities, including walking and running, much easier. The boost to the immune system from quitting will make it easier to fight off colds and flu. And the increase in oxygen in the body makes ex-smokers less fatigued and less likely to suffer from headaches. You will
also do the society a favor and those around you. Every 4th person that dies from lung disease is a passive smoker. A person killed because of someone else's terrible filthy habit. Smokers do yourselves and the world a favor - quit smoking, or you might just have to quit living.

a success material. Every director wants the prettiest female as a leading lady. Every man wants his wife to be an "Aishwarya Rai"!! Are we so shallow in our thinking that we measure abilities in terms of "perspective beauty"? I now wonder if a beautiful and fair person would stand better opportunities in life. In India, the chances are really high. From kindergarten to work place, good looks always get an extra edge.
by middle age) from smoking-related diseases including heart disease, lung cancer and chronic bronchitis. In other words, it's never too late to benefit from stopping. Quitting not only adds years to your life, it greatly improves the chance of a disease-free, mobile, happier old age. Scientific studies show that people's stress levels are lower after they stop smoking. Nicotine addiction makes smokers stressed from the 'withdrawal' between cigarettes; the pleasant feeling of satisfying that craving is only temporary and is not a real cure for stress. In addition, the improved levels of oxygen going through the body means ex-smokers can concentrate better and have increased mental well being. Within two to 12 weeks of stopping smoking, the circulation improves, making all
Nestlé came out with a report on Monday admitting to labour and human rights abuse in its seafood supply chain for seafood sourced from Thailand and has published an Action Plan to deal with the same. The Action Plan, the company says, has been made on the recommendations of the NGO Verité. These violations of labour laws and human rights abuse - which include human trafficking, sleep deprivation, insufficient supply of water, deceptive recruitment practices, and physical abuse among others - came to light in July this year with a New York Times report. Following the reports, the law firm Hagens Berman had filed class-action lawsuits against Nestlé and Mars "for their practices of importing fishbased pet food from suppliers who use slave labor." Despite its own investigation and pledge to
end any abuses or violations by its suppliers, Nestlé still may not have an easy time. Steve Berman, the managing partner of Hagens Berman told the New York Times that their "litigation will go forward because Nestlé Purina still fails to disclose on its products, as is required by law, that slave labor was used in its making." There is indeed little hope that this selfflagellation is any proof of Nestlé's commitment to protecting labour rights. This September itself, Nestlé had found in a report it had commissioned in 2013 under international pressure that 7% of west African cocoa farms connected to it employed children as workers and one of the 260 farms visited by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) (on behalf of Nestlé) used forced labour. This is despite Nestlé having signed an agreement along with other members of the cocoa industry to-
wards ending worst forms of child labour in 2001. Terry Collingsworth, a renowned human rights lawyer who had filed a lawsuit alleging trafficking and forced child labour on plantations in Ivory Cost in 2005, had told The Guardian after the FLA reports were published that "allowing the companies to act 'voluntarily' to clean up their problem has not, and
companies that rely on the cheap labour and resulting cheap production costs to maximise profit. As John Oliver tried to demonstrate this earlier this year with a segment on Fashion, they often feign ignorance and vow action, while continuing their practices by subverting the laws and agreements that they are party to. If
will not, work. There are lots of options that would work, including rigorous monitoring by an independent monitor who has authority to take corrective action." This behaviour is, in fact, reflective of a variety of
the harrowing accounts detailed in the July report of NYT are anything to go by, it's high time these companies were subjected to independent monitoring both in their own country as well as outside.

Recently, the blog count in India crossed the 1 Million mark. According to the findings of Blogging India: A Windows Live Report, "India's blogosphere is driven by youth and a
passion for self improvement and entertainment with 42% of online users reading blogs to stay informed about world events, 49% citing entertainment as the main reason they read blogs, and blogs written by business leaders ranking as the most interesting." With all the hype around it, why has Blogging become such a rage amongst the youth? A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descrip-
tions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. On being surveyed, it has been seen that a major fragment of the online users enjoy reading blogs related to Technology, News, and Education. Blogs written by Business leaders and politicians, too, seem to have a large number of followers. Due to the ease of use and the 'Really Simple Syndication' (RSS), readers now have an option to subscribe to a particular Blogger, or , to a particular section of the e-news. As such,
blogging has changed the face of journalism, giving power in the hands of readers to become today's journalists, thus creating a powerful publishing concept. Chris Mooney, the 2005 winner of the Scientific American's Science and Technology Web Award, refers to bloggers as "Socrates on speed", and to the blogs, as an "online marketplace for ideas". This network of ideas is growing by the minute, and has crossed the 30 million mark, worldwide. Providing new ideas, stories, follow-up option on
other stories, and people's opinions, the Blogosphere is an immensely huge source of information for the journalists. Most magazines and news papers too, operate their Blogs, targetting a much wider global population, breaking all the barriers of physical boundaries. Getting to know their readers' interests , via established forums, and building communities, has given them an opportunity to strengthen the bonds with them. Blogging has been the revolution in mass com-
munication. Being less expensive than the Print media, blogs provide the readers with a huger platform for interactions, also letting them contribute in making stories. However, relevant and reliable information are the key notes to the growth of the blog. The study carried out via the Windows Live Report found that in India, almost 90% of bloggers spend up to 5 hours per week reading blogs or updating their own blogs. This reveals the impact of the social network activity on Internet
usage patterns . "As we are seeing with the internet in general in India, more people are spending time online at the expense of traditional media. As user created content and community services such as blogging really begin to take off they will drive more time online. Advertisers will have to consider making the Internet a part of their integrated marketing mix as this is where they will find an increasing number of customers", says Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager, MSN and Windows Live, India.
An Independent Nation yet a Dependent Civilization Umashankar Sahu In 1947, the sub continental nation, India, got its freedom. The whole world praised India for its nonviolence policy and the patience it had for centuries. Today it has crossed 60 years of its freedom and day by day the civilization of this nation forgets the origin of its freeness. Here, there and everywhere only violence and violence. Poverty, hunger, corruption, illiteracy, panic, cruelty, harassments and extremism have all swallowed the real and original cultural, social and political lives of the society. Everybody knows that
several festivals are being celebrated by us locally and nationally. Also, we celebrate the Independence Day and the Republic Day by hosting the national Tricolor flag to remember and feel our freedom. But can somebody answer whether these celebrations are meaningful for a slum girl? Can she smile for once by feeling the cheer of independence and freedom? How much priority can she give to these celebrations as compared to her daily struggling life, to win a piece of bread for her empty stomach? Moving from street to street, collecting used and thrown plastic bags and bottles from dustbins and the garbage
lands, is her scheduled daily routine. This nation and its ancient civilization have given the message of sacrifice and peace to the whole world. There are many historical witnesses of the ancient Indian civilization, how it has rejected the evil powers and the egoism of the unsocial communities in various societies. For centuries, the hidden ideology of this nation has been found in its culture, literature and architectural beauties. But unfortunately today the real national Ideology is neglected by the recent generation. If we say about the social issues like religion, caste, higher-lower group system, obviously the present equation is de-
veloping. But the mishaps in association with all these equations occurring are responsible for the unpleasant things happening everywhere. The livelihood of the common man is being ruined; the national integrity is being affected by the current social, cultural and political structure of this country. If we think about the condition of the women of this nation, it seems somehow good and progressive but this is the case of a minority section of the fairer sex, there are several others who suffer and this shows the bad, rather worse condition of women in the Indian society. Not only women but the common man of this society is un-
able to entertain and enjoy the real taste of freedom. The real freedom intends to give all the general rights to all the people and also to give the right to the society to think and act independently for their up liftment. In the 19th century, the Indian civilization got a new life with several glazing initiatives by many revolutionary national leaders like Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Mahatma Gandhi. The initiatives by these leaders brought various changes and fueled much strength to the weak. But the process of revolution was incomplete that time. After the freedom, the same revolution process must have been continued. But today, many obstacles come within the path of de-
velopment. At times it seems that some local, national and international media agencies are guilty for their uncultured and unsocial propagandas which ruin the humanitarian value among the people of the society. Today, terrorism, corruption, various inactive Government systems, inhumanity and harassment for the common people is found everywhere in the name of freedom. Generally, everybody knows that a democratic system of a nation means the system ruled or managed by a representative who is elected or chosen by the people and is of the people and for the people of a certain nation. Everybody below the shade of a democratic system needs freedom
for their decision making. A new & well versed ideology of our culture, security and also our economic system is needed, which can bring a real revolution and a real smile to everyone's face. Today many innocent people are dying because of different violent activities and on the other hand the public representatives who are elected to look after the social and democratic system, move here and there with 'z' categorized security facility. At some places, the common man is leaving their homeland because of violence; many people are dying of poverty. Is it not a shame for us? Now the youth seem inactive at times, aimless, selfish and non-ideological in nature. And if this happens,
the only question that is raised is, how can the common people get their own social rights and justice? How should the corrupt system be changed? To fulfill the dream, hope and thought of the real democracy in this republican nation, India, the awareness among youth, the active and initiative taking individuals among the youth generation are very much important and necessary. The youth should concentrate towards the upliftment of the society. Only then a revolution can be brought in this democratic system. Let's wake up, let's be aware, and let's bring a change in our civilization to rebuild the nation with all positive and golden initiatives by the youth of the nation.

Telecom regulator releases consultation paper for spectrum auction
Mumbai, Nov 27: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has set in motion the process for next round of spectrum auctions in the country by issuing a consultation paper for fixing the reserve price of 2G, 3G and 4G airwaves. Besides reserve price, key issues such as quantum of spectrum to be auctioned, spectrum cap, roll-out obligations have been raised in the consultation paper for which the regulator has sought comments and counter comments by December 21 and December 28, respectively. The auctions are expected to be held in the current fiscal year, following pressure from the Finance Ministry which needs funds to meet its fiscal deficit targets of Rs.5.6 lakh crore for 201516. There had been a delay in floating the consultation paper as the Department of Telecom had failed to fur-
nish adequate information sought by the regulator, according to a statement. TRAI had sought from the DoT certain information critical for preparation of the consultation paper through a letter dated July 24, 2015."The DoT provided certain information through their letter dated October 16. This information is also not complete. Therefore, another letter was sent to DoT on November 16...However, to save time, the Authority has decided to issue the consultation paper based on available information," according to the statement. Last auctions, held in March 2015, fetched the government a whooping Rs.1.10 lakh crore. The winning operators were required to pay an upfront payment of up to 33 per cent within 10 calendar days of the close of auction, while the rest of the amount is payable over a period of 12 years. Godrej Group foresees real estate getting buoyant in a year Contd. from Page 1
developers have seen good sales and subdued residential market will be buoyant again in a year. "While the demand environment is subdued throughout the country, I don't think there is any case with absolutely no demand at all. For the right projects and developers, there continues to be good demand. However, for a more full-fledged recovery, confidence still needs to improve and that will happen over the next six to 12 months. I think in a year from now the industry will be in a much better position," said Godrej, adding that their recent launches in Byculla and Badlapur have seen good demand and the new project 'The Trees' at Vikhroli has created a lot of excitement. Spread over 34 acre, The Trees is Godrej's first mixed-use development in Mumbai while also being it largest in the city. It has a mix of commercial (9.4 acre), private luxury residential (6.7 acre) and, residential, retail and hospitality space (9.2 acre). The first phase of the development will have 374 residential units of carpet area ranging between 480 and 1,334 square feet and penthouses between 2,043 and 2,465 square feet. The pricing ranges from Rs 1.7 crore all inclusive price for a 1BHK unit to Rs 8 crore for a penthouse. On pricing of the project, Godrej said, "Our sense is that the pricing is very fair. It's not that pricing is low but neither is the cost of doing such a de-
velopment very low. Here, we are talking about creating a truly world-class environment and hopefully the project will give our customers a sense of the quality of development we want to build," he said. In terms of revenues expected from the development, Godrej said, "We see a revenue potential of over $1 billion (Rs 6,600 core) from this mixed-use development that will be completed in phases over the next five to six years." While the residential towers will be the first ones to come up, the company will simultaneously work on the second commercial tower. The high street retail park and five-star luxury hotel is still work-inprogress. "We are seeing a lot of interest from all the major luxury operators for this hotel project," said Anubhav Gupta, executive vice-president and chief design officer, Godrej Properties. While Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej had in a recent conversation that the company would eventually sell their commercial properties even if they were leased initially, it is still not clear if the same will apply to the five-star luxury hotel asset that will come up in the mixed-use development. "We have not really decided about it yet," said Pirojsha Godrej. On the real estate market, Godrej said, "I don't think there will be a major price crash over medium term. However, in the short term, anything is possible. (Agencies)

CreditMantri launches simplified process for accessing Equifax credit score ANI New Delhi, Nov 27: CreditMantri today announced the launch of a new user experience and a simplified process for accessing Equifax credit score and history online for free, with minimal paperwork. This process is part of an enhanced set of features being launched as part of CreditMantri's existing Free Credit Health Check. The Credit Health Check enables consumers to make better informed credit decisions. CreditMantri aims to empower consumers to unlock their Credit potential and benefit from this knowledge. On the CreditMantri website (www.creditmantri.com), consumers start off by stating their Credit Goal. The consumer's credit profile is then real-time generated online, with the credit score and credit history report as the first
building block. CreditMantri, also uses nontraditional data from social media to profile individuals with no or limited score. Once the Credit Profile is generated, the user is then guided towards the solution which best matches the user's stated Credit Goal and the user's individual credit profile. The solutions offered vary depending on the user's credit goal - be it discovery of lender products like loans or credit cards, resolution for past loan issues, reduction in current borrowing costs etc. In doing this, CreditMantri provides borrowers better control over their credit health through a concerted customer focused proposition - one that educates and hand-holds the customer to create or improve their credit scores and eventually discover relevant lender products. This approach enables lenders and borrowers to
better understand each other by leveraging the power of data, resulting in efficient credit decision making. "Educating and empowering every Indian to better understand their credit score and history is a big priority for Equifax and we are happy to work with CreditMantri to help individuals access their credit score and history and based on this knowledge make more informed choices" says Manish Sinha, India Country Leader, Equifax India. "The growing adoption of the digital medium is a great enabler to build out a strong platform which helps individuals take charge of their Credit Potential" said Ranjit Punja, CEO of CreditMantri. "CreditMantri aims to disrupt the way customers will apply for loans and hopes to ultimately enable wider credit dispensation," he added In addition,
Spencer's Retail to foray into grocery e-commerce space Mumbai, Nov 27: Spencer's Retail, the retail chain owned by Sanjiv Goenka, is entering the grocery e-commerce space and plans a limited test launch by this fiscal end. A part of the group flagship CESC, Spencer's has been exploring ways to leverage its network of 120 stores in more than 35 cities for the ecommerce foray. RP-Sanjiv Goenka group had also appointed EY to decide on the course of action sometime back, and the current decision, about which the group was so far tight-lipped, follows the study of the report of the consultant. "Spencer's Retail is firming up its plan to foray into grocery e-commerce and a pilot is likely to be rolled out by FY16 end," the group has recently informed its investors in a presentation. The drive towards e-commerce for Spencer's, which has a history of more than 150 years and revived in 1996, is being driven by
the next generation of the Goenkas, Sanjiv's son Shashwat, who, at 23, took over as the head of the retail major in 2013. Spencer's positions itself has a food-first, multi-format retailer with 1.1 million square feet space. The retailer is planning to roll out 60-80 hypermarket stores over next four years, including 12 hypermarkets this year, adding about 2,75,000sqft of trading area. While Spencer's made its first-ever operating profit in May this year with steady double-digit same-store sales growth in April-June quarter, net profit is still elusive. Sanjiv Goenka recently told that profits could be reported in coming quarters. With discretionary spends under check, Spencer's has been toying with the idea of looking beyond conventional retailing, and getting into grocery etailing appears to be a rational progression with its existing expertise in distribution
logistics for perishable food items, industry experts said. In all probability, CESC might soon set up a new corporate entity to house the e-commerce venture once the pilot project is launched by Marchend and validated. This would help the venture operate independently and attract new-age investors even though it would be having close synergy with Spencer's Retail. The retailing company's effort to bring in outside strategic investors had earlier failed over valuation issues weighed down by emergence of e-commerce and continuation of slowdown in the economy. Interestingly, offline chain Spencer's entry into grocery e-commerce comes at a time when the sector is still looking to crack their business models. Grocery start-up Grofers has suffered hiccups, but it recently got rejuvenated recently through fresh rounds of funding. (Agencies)
CreditMantri works closely with lenders to help them improve loan approval rates. Approval rates for credit products continues to be a challenge for most lenders with a surge in customers with credit-related issues or individuals with no prior credit history. CreditMantri has a B2B offer suite which helps lenders better understand their prospects with nuanced data. All data which is shared with CreditMantri or with the lenders is only based on end user consent. Lenders will gain by having a more efficient and nuanced decision making capability to explore newer segments. The launch of this improved, simplified user experience is one of the many steps in the journey for CreditMantri to meet its' aspiration of becoming India's largest and most inclusive Credit facilitator.

WOMEN’S Health Alerts You Must Not Ignore! There are many women out there who have health concerns that they aren't even aware of. While it's easier to ignore symptoms that are seemingly insignificant, this could have a major impact on your well being in the long run. Here are 7 health alerts you must NOT take lightly. Remember ladies, health is wealth. 1. When The Colour Of Your Urine Is Unusual There are many reasons as to why the colour of your urine changes. If your urine is red, pinkish, dark brown or yellow, it could be due to medication, eating particular foods, infections, dehydration or, even worse, a kidney or a liver problem. To restore the colour back to normal, you can change your diet and drink lots of water. But if nothing works, you may have to visit your doctor
to get a urine test done. 2. When You Feel A Lump In Your Breast If you do happen to feel a lump on your breast, please don't jump to conclusions too quickly! Not all lumps are cancerous by nature. Some are caused by infections, injuries and non-cancerous growths. But this is something you must immediately get checked out by a doctor - take action quickly to avoid worrying as well as future compli-
cations. 3. When You Miss Your Period Often Did you miss getting your period this month? Don't worry, it's no biggie! The causes for missing it are not always related to pregnancy. There are numerous reasons as to why this happens. This could happen due to stress, diet, exercise, side effects of the birth control pill, or even weight loss and gain. However, if this happens to you fre-
quently, it might be a symptom of complications such as PCOD. To get to the bottom of the issue, go see your gynaecologist. They will not only give you the exact reason for the delay, but they will also prescribe medicine and offer valuable health advice. 4. When Your Back Begins To Pain Every Day Most women tend to suffer from back pain on a semi-regular basis. This complain usually comes from women who have poor posture, stressed out at work, overweight, suffer from anxiety or are pregnant. The easiest way to tackle the issue is to exercise and practise yoga. If the problem persists despite this, you will have to see a physical therapist. Trust us, they're trained to carry out a successful visual inspection and target the main issue. You can also
7 Daily Habits For A More Stylish You It's not just about picking the perfect clothes or doing your make-up the right way. Little things like keeping your closet organized or practising the right posture can go a long way if you want to look and feel stylish. Incorporate these daily habits in your routine and wake up feeling positively stylish every single day. After all, style is never really about the clothes…it's a way of life! 1. Practice good posture Posture is the most important thing you need to take care of…if you're walking, sitting, eating or relaxing. Not only does a good posture exude confidence and make you look better, it also has various health benefits. Always be aware that you are not slouching or hunched, because in time it will lead to a lot of bone problems and it will also drag your outfit down. 2. Keep your closet organized If you can't find what to wear and you're in a style rut, chances are you have a messy closet. If you have a messy cupboard,
you end up not finding the right clothes…and the ones that you find are either crushed or spoilt. Developing the habit of organizing your closet neatly is a sign that you like to take care of your clothes and in turn how you present yourself to the world. 3. Get enough sleep A good night's sleep reflects on your pretty face
4. Take out time to get ready in the morning This might mean waking up fifteen minutes earlier or going to bed early, but always make sure to take some time out for yourself to get ready in the morning. Find time to do your hair and pick the right clothes. Spend a little more time and effort into getting ready, because when you know
the next morning. Like our bodies, our skin needs rest and time to reenergize too. A healthy habit of going to bed early and getting ample rest can not only make you wake up feeling less groggy, but it will also resonate on your posture, which trickles down to your outfit and overall appearance.
you look good - you feel good…and that is all that matters. 5. Always plan ahead A good habit to include in your lifestyle is to plan ahead. Be proactive about what you want to wear to a certain function or even tomorrow. On that metro or car ride back home, always think about what you can wear
tomorrow. Plan on what you need to buy next month…if anything at all, instead of going for impulsive shopping sprees. It will always help you in the long run. 6. Pay attention to detail Is your shirt wrinkled or is your jacket missing a button? Paying attention to these details is very important. While one may assume that being stylish is all about dressing up - sure, it is, but that is not everything. Imagine your white shirt has a stain on it, it will ruin your entire look. Ergo, it is highly recommended that you pay attention to the little things. 7. Keep yourself updated Not saying that you always need to be in the loop of the latest runway trends or fashion, but be aware of what is working this season. You can simply do this by walking into two stores…pay attention to the kind of clothes they have. They will always have some similar clothes so you automatically know what is in. It's always better to be updated and be fabulous at it.
opt for a full body massage. This will not only help relieve pain, but will also keep the stress at bay. 5. When You Struggle To Get Sleep At Night When you struggle to get a good night's rest, something is definitely not right. Sleep deprivation causes heart disease, poor concentration, hampers your sex drive, triggers diabetes, disturbs blood pressure and could even lead to strokes! Other than stress, diet and unhealthy lifestyle choices could also take a heavy toll on your sleeping patterns. Taking sleeping pills should be your last choice. Talk to your doctor about it. They will be able to examine your sleeping habits and come up with solutions to improve the situation. 6. When Fever Becomes Frequent Fever that occurs fre-
quently is not the sign of a healthy body. It's your body's way of letting you know that there's a hidden infection that hasn't been cured. This could even be because of an infection in your urinary tract. If your fever exceeds 103 F, it's time you give doc a call. Proper
medical attention is what you need if you're faced with this problem. 7. When You Keep Running Out Of Breath Struggling to breathe during the day? If so, then this could be a medical problem which is related to the lungs. Climatic changes, obesity,
stress, over-exercising could be the causes behind it. Bronchitis, asthma and heart disease could be a few possible reasons too. If you do experience this, stay calm and try not to panic. Seek a doctor's help and take medication accordingly.

fully wash out your conditioner and that residue weighs down your mane, making it flat and can contribute to icky greasiness. By reversing the order, your hair still gets the moisture it needs from your conditioner, while your shampoo will help cleanse. 2. What Type Of Hair Does It Work Best For? Other than fine hair and oily hair, it can help to try this method if your roots tend to get greasy but your ends are dry. Hair that is highlighted or gets tangled easily can also benefit from reverse hair washing. 3. When Should You Try It? You don't necessarily need to switch your bottle order every time you wash your hair. It works exceptionally well whenever you do, but if you haven't washed your hair in a few days then the traditional method is better to really cleanse your strands. It's also a great
idea to try before you blow dry or style your mane to help make your strands bouncy for longer. 4. How Will You Know If Reverse Washing Is Right For You? Well you need to try it first to know. It may work better with certain products than it does with others, you won't really know till you experiment. How Do You Reverse Wash Well? Of course you're just reversing the order of your shampoo an d c o n d i tioner, but here are a few things that will help maximize the effects for soft, bouncy hair. " We t y o u r h a i r first and saturate your strands from root to tip before you apply your conditioner. Your hair needs to be fully soaked for the conditioner to be distributed well. " Apply it earsdownwards like you typically do.
" Leave it on for about 5 minutes or however long you usually would. " Now whether you should wash it out or not is a crucial question. For some, rinsing out your conditioner and then working in your shampoo works fine, but for others it could be make your hair seem dry and brittle. If that's the case then do not rinse out your conditioner. Instead, apply your shampoo with your conditioner on, lather and then wash it all out. This will have much better effects on your hair. If your hair is feeling particularly dry, instead of trying a million different products, why not change up your hair wash regime? It could make all the difference. Moisturizing your locks without weighing them down is exactly what this method is all about

of not losing a Test series away from home for nine years. South Africa needed to score 310 for a series-levelling victory, but fell woefully short of the target, unable to negotiate the Indian spin threat which was led by the 29year-old Ashwin, who completed his fourth 10wicket haul in a match in his 31st Test. Ashwin's second innings victims included three left-handers -the opening duo of Dean Elgar and Stiaan van Zyl, and Jean-Paul Duminy -apart from the prized wicket of AB de Villiers, the visitors' most successful batsman on this visit. He fittingly took the last wicket by clean bowling last-man Morne Morkel through the gate in his final devastating spell of 4 for 16 off 19 balls.
Mishra got rid of Amla to end the partnership and also packed off du Plessis soon afterwards before Ashwin polished off the tail with the second new ball in a devastating spell. With India win-

He has become more consistent with his stock bowl. He is not trying too much. You hardly see the carom ball coming in. He is relying on his natural delivery to deceive the batsmen with change in the pace. Bowlers take honours on Day 1 of historic day-night Test
Agencies Adelaide: New Zealand's pacemen struck back with two late wickets under the floodlights at Adelaide Oval but Australia's bowlers basked in the sun as the inaugural day-night Test opened on Friday. Batsmen had spoken of the pink ball with trepidation in the leadup to the historic match and 12 wickets tumbled in front of a festive crowd of 47,441. After winning the toss, New Zealand squandered a positive start with a rash of poor shot selection to be dismissed cheaply for 202 in the twilight early in the late session of the third and final Test. Pacemen Tim Southee and Doug Bracewell removed Australia's openers but captain Steve Smith (24 not out) and Adam Voges (nine) dug in to guide the hosts to 54-2 at the close of play under an inky black sky. Australia, 10 up in the series, took the leading role in nudging a 138-year-old format into prime-time hours so it was fitting that the hosts held a slender advantage at the close. Their satisfaction was tempered, however, with an injury to pace spearhead Mitchell Starc who limped off late in the middle session to have scans. Having carried an ankle injury for months, he was the pick of their bowlers with 3/24, but was clearly in discomfort from the first ball after New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and

elected to bat. New Zealand crumbled in the middle session, losing three wickets for four runs in 11 balls, with opener Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and McCullum all falling through loose shots. Spinner Nathan Lyon triggered the rout when Latham bottom-edged to Peter Nevill to be out for 50, the wicketkeeper snaffling a fine catch with the edge of his glove. Taylor holed out for 21 with an unsightly drive off Peter Siddle that sent an inside edge through to Nevill. McCullum showed no interest in a patient captain's knock and was caught behind for four slashing wildly at Starc. Spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner, a surprise selection in place of seamer Matt Henry, showed some resilience but Starc returned to bowl him for 31 before exiting the field. Starc had captured the prized wicket of Kane Williamson for 22 with a trademark searing yorker, setting the tone for a tough day for New Zealand's batsmen. Josh Hazlewood was the first to strike, trapping opener Martin Guptill lbw for one run in his second over. He finished with 3-66, with Peter Siddle taking 2-54, his second wicket bringing up 200 in Tests.
