Modified Pasighat, a renewed chance to frame prosperity Through the lens of smart city….. Pasighat becomes lone Arunachal town shortlisted among 98 Indian smart cities. 15 hundred crore rough budget for renovation and retrofitting

cmyk

The path to get the final smart city tag for Pasighat was not smooth. Till few days prior to the present political turmoil in Arunachal, the East Siang district head quarter, Pasighat was going through a rough and critical discourse to get shortlisted among the proposed 98 Indian smart cities. The reason was there were also other and equally eligible towns on the race including the state capital, Itanagar. But finally Pasighat sealed their dream. Accordingly, Adis the predominant inhabitants of

Pasighat have got a renewed chance to introspect themselves with a new paradigm of development in their native soil. The criteria to pick out an applicant for smart city were based on the questionnaire asking how the participating districts performed in the areas of housing, sanitation, egovernance and revenue collection over the last three years. Reportedly, Pasighat remained better than all other cities and clinched the tag.

In due passage of time; Abor became well-known as Adi to the outer world and remained one of the most colorful texture in the tribal fabric of Arunachal Pradesh. They are heroic by ancestral blood, advanced in educational and societal reform. Moreover, witnessed the early vinegary politics of the British Raj in their homeland; the Abor Hills and valiantly resisted to it. Despite many loss and gain in the past, the Adis have got a perpetual means of celebrating lives with Solung, Aran and Etor orchestrating colorful Ponung and Taapu.

Going back to the history of Pasighat and its people with such phrases gives us a syrupy wisdom. But there were also shadows left behind these heroic people. In the past, Pasighat deserted a lot of developmental institutions that came towards them. Misguidance in many occasions to adapt and accept development opportunities often became a common barrier. Sharing those by gone days of misfortune, former Arunachal education minister Basiram Siram expressed, "Earlier, we missed out many things out of no foul and igno-

rance because of somebody's mistake. People with vested interest misled the developmental opportunities. Establishment of state capital was initially proposed to Pasighat. We did no mistake in accepting it. But there were people from outside who shouted against it in Pasighat and chased it away. Now we have made a lot of realization and ready to accommodate every minute opportunity that prospers Pasighat and its people. Under smart city project, we will rebuild Pasighat as a model township in India". Contd. on Page 3
