Guwahati, Oct 7: In what could be seen as a ‘vote bribe’ ahead of the 2016 Assam assembly election, slated to be held early next year, the Government of Assam has approved the payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to the serving Government employees, State Government Pensioners, Family Pension Holders and Extra Ordinary Pension holders at the rate of six per cent today. With this enhancement the rate of DA/ DR per mensem (per month) that a beneficiary will be entitled to will be 119 per cent. The rate of enhancement will be effective from July 1, 2015. ET CAPSULES Golaghat, Oct 7: A wild elephant died under mysterious circumstances in Sotiana Pathar area under Murphuloni Forest Beat Office in Golaghat. According to reports, a pile of wild elephants suddenly entered the village area in Sotiana Pathar in search of food today in the morning. Then one elephant about 12 years of age suddenly collapsed and got critical. The elephant struggled for more than two hours. Later a medical team of the Forest Department reached the spot but could not save the elephant. The reason of death is yet to be ascertained though it is said that the elephant was already suffering from some sort of illness or disease. (Correspondent)
