Undeterred China continues to provoke India DFO arrested on corruption 70 lakhs cash, banned as 250 Chinese soldiers intrude into Arunachal charges, animal parts recovered its territory. The Chinese soldiers spent nearly three hours on this side of the border before going back to their side. The Indian Army has decided to lodge a complaint with the Chinese government, which is already in India's cross hairs following its aggressive blocking of India's application for the membership of the elite nuclear club. Both India and Pakistan had applied in May to join the elite 48-member group that regulates global nuclear trade.

Top defence officials have confirmed yet another transgression by the Chinese army in Arunachal Pradesh's Yangtse region last week, around the same time that India's bid for the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) was blocked by Beijing. Authorities in the Defence
Ministry and the Intelligence Bureau have told a top Indian TV channel that the transgression by nearly 250 soldiers of the Peoples' Liberation Army divided into four groups happened on June 9 in Arunachal's East Kameng district.

India has secured crucial backing for its membership from Mexico, Italy and Switzerland and the US, even as Pakistan has been lobbying hard to scuttle India's bid. A transgression is for a short period, unlike an incursion where the troops remain stationed in an attempt to dominate the area, like the three week stand off between the Indian Chinese troops in Dault Beg Oldi area. As per figures available with MHA, there are cases of transgression due to difference in perception of Line of Actual Control (LAC). Recurring incidents of incursions, implementation of an agreement to reduce tensions between border patrols and Sino-India strategic concerns were among the issues that figured in Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's visit to China in April.

CC Singpho alleges govt. officials and staffs for making common public of Bordumsa-Diyun suffer ET Correspondent Bordumsa, June 13: Raising to the call of the hour, CC Singpho the former Cabinet Minister of Arunachal Pradesh finally surfaced the pain and sufferings of the common people of Bordumsa-Diyun on multi-dimensional fronts caused due to several potential factors. Talking to this Journalist, Mr. Singpho alleged that officials and staffs of various departments were never on time on their duty which simply compels the common people from various remote pockets to return disappointed without getting the work done or being called some other day due
to so called hectic job pressure of the officials on that day. According to him, various government offices including the PHE, PWD, Electrical, Medical, Hydro-Power were being run either by some favorite staffs of the officers or at the arbitrary sweet will of the head of the concerned department who mostly remained busy in their personnel works without availing official leaves. Much to the horror, he told that the top officials were seen using government duty vehicles for their personnel works and trips. In education sectors too, he said that the schools at various locations were being run with
sufficient teachers and without required infrastructure. Addressing the media, Mayong Maio and Dumai Singpho, the leaders of the concerned area told that corruption and irregularities of various departments, unauthorized absenteeism of officials, delay on duty to attend the need of the people on time and several other mal practices have became the features of the Bordumsa-Diyun administrative set up which they are going to bring into the notice of the DC Changlang for his interference. Terming the administrative lacuna as Jungle Raj,
Dumai Singpho told that the people were facing immense trouble due to nonavailability of Lat Mandal which the district administration has failed to provide till date. ‘People’s fear to confront the top officials and apprehension that he or she might be charged personally’ has simply encouraged the corrupt officials to go for wide scale corruption or policy of domination that compels the people to listen and accept what the government staffs or the top officials says , Mr Singpho burst. On the other hand, Mayong Maio told that the model hospital exists just for the name sake without any
prompt and quality services for the needy people. He also alleged that several CHC and PHC are run by Homeopathic doctors alone due to non appointment of allopathic doctors which simply multiplies the agony of the needy people. The questions remains to be answered to the people here is- where is Deputy Commissioner and does he know the picturesque of Bordumsa-Diyun? If yes why is he adamant or else the down line hierarchy in the administration must be providing wrong pictures of developmental phenomenon providing the blanket cover on the alleged aspects.

their complaint letter addressed to DC Pasighat. The union urges the district administration to initiate a case against these erring cellular operators so that services are rectified on time or else, balances or money be charged as per service provided. The validity of data services be extended in case of network failures and balances be refunded in case of call drops. Lungkang Ering, President, ABSU (E) says, “in other states, people keep extra SIM cards for different purposes like family, business etc. But here in our state, we are compelled to keep extra SIMs just for alternative network availability”. Keeping the interest of consumers, the Cellular Operators need to take up measures to check such inconvenience caused to subscribers. The call drop issue has been in limelight across the major cities here in the country in recent past which was taken care of by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the same was also heard in the Delhi High Court for compensation to subscriber for each call drop. Thadou bodues serve ultimatum Sadar Hills district demand raised again
Thadou bodues serve ultimatum Sadar Hills district demand raised again Kangpokpi, Jun 13: Taking strong exception to the repeated assurance given by the State Government, Thadou civil organisations have served an ultimatum to the State Government to upgrade Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district within the first week of July. The ultimatum came after a crucial joint meeting of Thadou Students Association (TSA), Thadou Women's Association (TWA) and Thadou Youth's Association (TYA) was held at Motbung on Sunday. The bodies discussed the repeated assurance given by the State Government on the issue which has left the people of Sadar Hills pursuing the demand for long four decades. Speaking to reporters, Thadou bodies spokesperson Henkai Sitlhou said that it was also resolved during the meeting that all the MLAs and MDCs of Sadar Hills must tender resignation if the demand is not fulfilled within the first week of July. It was also resolved that if the MLAs and MDCs fail to comply with the resolution, they shall face pub-
lic boycott in Sadar Hills, he added. The spokesperson further said that Manipur Government particularly the Congress-led Government had repeatedly assured to declare Sadar Hills a full-fledged district. The same assurance was given recently in April and May this year as well, he said. "Denying our Fundamental Rights for 40 years is aimed at infusing communal hatred and subduing the interests of the people of Sadar Hills", the spokesperson said. Successive Governments since 1974 have failed to fulfil the wish of Sadar Hills people, he lamented. It is tantamount to deprivation of economic development, social upliftment and political growth, he said. Henkai Sitlhou further said, "As our legitimate demand is being continuously denied and cleverly delayed for more than 40 years we are now compelled to fight with whatever resources we have". Thadou bodies also vowed to no longer fall prey to more delaying tactics of the Government, he said.(Agencies)
LPG refills sold on road sides
LPG refills sold on road sides Imphal, Jun 13: It has been detected that some LPG distributors have been selling off LPG refills on road side after taking them down from trucks directly. A source in IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office informed that according to rule consumers should take LPG refills only from the godowns of distributors. This particular rule was framed to ensure immediate intervention in case of explosion of any LPG refill cylinder. Nonetheless, for the convenience of consumers distributors are allowed to distribute refills at their branch offices and delivery points although this practice defies rules. Distribution of LPG refills at delivery points is practised in some other Northeastern States including Assam and Meghalaya. But distri-
bution of LPG refills on road sides directly from trucks is not permissible at all. If a distributor is found distributing LPG refills on road sides from trucks, the particular distributor can be served show cause notice. This can be followed by major or minor monetary penalty, said the source. Meanwhile, Social Welfare Organisation Thoubal said that Manipur Thoubal Gas was found distributing LPG refills on road sides from trucks in total contravention of IOC's guidelines and rules. The Social Welfare Organisation has also lodged a complaint to the concerned authority. The complaint letter asked the concerned authority to direct Manipur Thoubal Gas Agency, Thoubal to distribute LPG refills only at their authorised godowns, not on road sides.(Agencies)

Major parties in Tripura reject IPFT statehood demand Agartala, June 13: All the major political parties in Tripura rejected the demand for a separate state,'Twipra land' raised by Indigenous People s Front of Twipra (IPFT), a tribal-based party. Secretary of the state Committee of ruling CPI-M, Bijan Dhar on Monday said, "we oppose this demand because it is divisive, irresponsible and politically motivated. This demand for Twipra Land is aimed at creating a separate state by dividing the small Tripura state, which would increase the sufferings of the people." The IPFT, in a statement earlier, called for blockade of the AssamAgartala National High-
way on June 22 for 24 hours to press for their demand. "This demand is aimed at destabilizing the communal harmony between tribal and non-tribal communities of the state and against peace and development of the state," the CPI-M leader told reporters here. The IPFT demanded to carve out the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), home to the tribals, who constitute one-third of the state population and occupy two-third of the state territory to form the new state. Mrinal K Deb, spokesman of BJP said, "We are not against the demand of small states, but oppose

this demand strongly, because it would create geographical isolation to people. The tribal council area, which they want to convert into a fullfledged state is spread all over the districts of the
state, which is not feasible." However, he said, "we are in favour of giving more autonomy to the tribal council and demand to elevate the council like Boro Territorial
Council in Assam. Tripura tribal council was formed under sixth schedule of the constitution." Chairman of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Committee and former state minister Ratan Chakraborty said his party did not support the demand for a separate 'Twipra land'. "It would simply divide the state and spoil communal harmony," he told reporters. The TMC got shot in the arms recently
in the wake of six dissident MLAs of the opposition Congress of the total ten having joined the party. M'laya gets its first human rights panel Nagaland Shillong, Jun 13: After a long wait, the State government has finally notified the formation of the first Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) with Justice (retired) Aftab H. Saikia as Chairman and former Meghalaya DGP P.J.P. Hanaman as member. Justice Saikia, who took over as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir in 2010 and retired in 2011, was earlier heading the Assam State Human
Rights Commission as its Chairperson. After his tenure ended in Assam, he was chosen as the head of Meghalaya human rights panel. An official source told The Shillong Times on Sunday that the Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission was notified on June 7 by the Political department with a Chairperson and a member. There is a provision for one more member which will be filled up in the due course of time, whereas
the Chairperson and the lone member appointed can start functioning. Earlier, though the State government had appointed former judge of the lower court, M.B. Challam as another member of the Human Rights Commission, Challam was informed later that she would not be eligible since she had served as the District and Sessions Judge only for four years, while the criteria is seven years. The formation of the state human rights
body was accelerated after the Supreme Court wanted the State government to compete the entire formation of the human rights panel within June 30. It was on August 13, 2013 that the State cabinet gave its nod to the formation of the Commission. Later in March, 2014, the Assembly passed the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (Salaries and Allowances and other Terms and Conditions of Service of the Members) Rules,
2014. The formation of the human right panel assumes significance in the context of many pressure group and individuals now directly approaching the National Human Rights Commission to get their grievances addressed. Several instances of human rights violations have been reported in the past in the State, but in the absence of a proper human rights panel in the State, the aggrieved persons are yet to get justice.(Agencies)
Meghalaya political unrest may go the Arunachal way Shillong, Jun 13: Dissident Congress leaders in Meghalaya may take the 'extreme step' of going the Arunachal way by forming an alternate government if the AICC continues to remain adamant to their demands. It was after the leadership issue was allowed to linger for more than a year that the Congress suffered a jolt in Arunachal Pradesh with a dissident Congress leader forming a government there. At least two Congress dissidents in Meghalaya have admitted that if the AICC does not take any initiative to change Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the rebels will be compelled to follow the example of Arunachal Pradesh where dissident Congress member Kalikho Pul - while remaining as the new CLP leader - formed an alternate government and later merged his group with the regional outfit People's Party of Arunachal after formally breaking away from the Congress. A dissident Congress legislator said on Sunday that some party legislators from Garo Hills are contemplating a merger with the NPP as an ex-
treme step. "Even if the new AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya C.P. Joshi comes to Shillong and discusses the leadership issue, we do not have much faith in the exercise as earlier, AICC leader V. Narayanasamy indulged in the same exercise, but in vain," said another dissident Congress legislator. According to the legislator, the AICC should understand the sentiments of the majority of Congress legislators and the people of the State that the time is not favourable for Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to cling on to his chair at the cost of the party especially in view of the fact that the 2018 Assembly polls are not far away. Earlier, following the issues related to empowerment of headmen and the dual post, KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem had raised the banner of revolt and even apprised Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi after visiting them in Delhi on the lack of consultations on the part of the chief minister in framing the dual post Bill and handling issues related to the headmen and the KHADC.
Following this, the then AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya, V. Narayanasamy, made several rounds of visits to Shillong and held meetings with the MLAs but it did not result in any favourable outcome. The majority of dissidents, hence, are pessimistic as to whether the AICC will take any favourable steps to address their concerns. Though the chief minister had convinced the high command, through a letter, that stability in the CLP was restored, the reality is different, the dissidents feel. "It is true that we do not have the required numbers now as many have gone back to the chief minister, but even some ministers in the cabinet are not happy with the style of functioning of the chief minister as far as taking decisions on matters of public importance are concerned," a legislator said. He also pointed out that even if the chief minister effects a cabinet reshuffle or adjusts the portfolios, this is not going to address the core issue of demand for change of leadership. According to the legislator, besides the parlia-
mentary secretaries and those who hold posts of chairman of various bodies, the officers are also unhappy over the functioning of the chief minister due to his attitude and lack of punctuality. The Arunachal political crisis saw protracted tussle for power for almost a year between former Congress Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and dissident leader Kalikho Pul who claimed majority leading to the imposition of President's rule on January 26 this year. Like in Meghalaya, the rebel Congress leaders were annoyed over the 'dictatorial and autocratic style' of functioning of Tuki. Another worry was the financial crunch in that state. These same reasons are citied by the Congress rebels in Meghalaya against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma demanding a change of leadership. Initially, as many as 21 Congress legislators out of the total 47 in the House of 60 supported the rebel group in Arunachal and their strength swelled later. After the political drama wherein the Governor played a crucial role
ended with the court cases, President's Rule, change of Assembly speakers, and appointment of two Congress chief whips, one supporting the Pul group and another Tuki, Pul finally proved his majority in the House on February 19 remaining as CLP leader after the withdrawal of President's Rule on February 17. Later, Pul along with 29 members broke away from Congress and merged with the regional People's Party of Arunachal. While Pul has the outside support of 11 BJP MLAs and two Independent members; with no legislator from the saffron party in Meghalaya, BJP is not interested to topple the Congress government in Meghalaya unlike Arunachal Pradesh. In a panic reaction, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had written to the high command that the BJP with the support of dissidents was trying to topple his government. The BJP, however, had made it clear that the Congress government in Meghalaya will collapse on its own due to its internal contradictions. (Agencies)

The Congress vice-president's protest comes at a time when there is an ongoing controversy over certification of Bollywood film 'Udta Punjab', based on the menace of drugs in the state. (ANI)

sessions' court in Ahmedabad will pronounce the verdict on the quantum of sentence for the 24 convicts in the Gulberg massacre case on June 17. The lawyer on behalf of the SIT presented the list of the names of the accused to the court on Monday. "The court will announce the quantum of punishment on June 17. Wherever I went, I met a lot of people who were very helpful, who really wanted to, you know, do something for the betterment of the society. I mean, I just came across a lot of positivity wherever I went," she said. During the campaign,
Iqbal conducted seminars in several universities on how to combat depression. "There are two options: one is, we discuss an issue but don't do anything constructive, only keep pointing out the
negativities. The second option is when people choose to correct the wrongs. So that's exactly what I thought. I love riding. I was interested in it. Pak credentials for NSG membership stronger than India: Sartaj Aziz Nepal gets a new Islamabad, June 13: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Advisor on Foreign Affairs,Sartaj Aziz, has said that Islamabad's credentials for the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) membership are stronger than New Delhi if the 48-nation cartel agrees to form a uniform criteria for non-NPT states. Aziz on Sunday said that Pakistan has diplomatically engaged numerous countries over the criteriabased approach for nonNPT countries. "If the group forms such a uniform criteria, then Pakistan has stronger credentials for NSG mem-
NSG membership: Modi seeks Russian route to reach China Korea, Jun 13: Back from his visits to Washington, Geneva and Mexico City to lobby for India's entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now setting his sights east: asking Russia for help with the countries still holding out, even as he prepares to meet with President Vladmir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the SCO (Shanghai C o o p e r a t i o n Organisation) summit later this month. The outreach is particularly important as China continues to maintain that "NSG members remain divided" on the issue of membership, claiming that "many countries within the group share China's stance." Officials expect a final decision may not come till the eve of the NSG meeting in South Korea on June 24, when the Prime Minister is expected to meet Mr. Xi at the Tashkent SCO meet that is also discussing India and Pakistan's membership on June 23-24. He is also scheduled to meet Kazakh President Nazarbayev on the issue. Significantly, Mr Modi called up Mr. Putin on Saturday, wishing him on Russia's national day and confirming the meeting at the SCO. In a statement, the Kremlin said: "The discussion focused on practical issues of the two countries' cooperation, including preparations for the top-level contacts to be held shortly." While refusing to confirm whether "the practical issues" included India's NSG membership, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Russia was always "very supportive" of India's NSG aspirations. But analysts say Mr Modi may be hopeful of more: that Russia will use its influence with countries like Kazakhstan and Turkey, who are not yet convinced to back India, and most importantly, as a bridge with China, which has taken a tough position. bership than India," he said. "Our strategy was to apply after India did, after which we would have immediately followed. We have had our application in an advance state of readiness for the past three months for this this purpose," Dawn quoted Aziz as saying in an interview. The top diplomat also claimed that Pakistan has gradually gathered support for the criteria-based approach. "Last week, I telephoned the foreign ministers of Russia, New Zealand and South Korea, who will in future head the NSG, and our viewpoint was that they should
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif support the criteria-based approach, and we have gathered support for it, China was already supporting it," he said. Aziz said the U.S. has
formed a policy to 'build up India' as their entire attention is towards containing the Islamic world and China. "We cannot question them but we re-
peatedly tell them that you (US) are a sovereign country and can maintain any level of relations with any country, but if you increase the strategic and conventional imbalance in South Asia, our problems will increase," he said while referring to the U.S. support for India's inclusion in the NSG. Talking about the country's relations with India, he said things have changed as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration wants to normalise ties, but according to their 'preferences' do not wish to discuss the Kashmir issue. "The whole world agrees
that the two countries should start dialogue for lasting peace in South Asia," he said. Responding to a poser about Indian 'spy' Kulbhushan Jhadav, he said India raises the issue ofPakistan's non-state actors and their subversive activities in its country repeatedly and pressed that the former is a RAW operative. "But what is more important is that his (Jhadav) documentation is correct and we are preparing a proper dossier about his activities and network, so we can share it with friendly countries, the UN and the P5 countries," said Aziz.(ANI)
Reforms proposed for Fata's merger into KP Peshawar, Jun 13: The Fata Reforms Committee has proposed a set of "parallel and concurrent" political, administrative, judicial and security reforms, as well as a massive reconstruction and rehabilitation programme, to prepare the Federally Administered Tribal Areas for a 'five-year transition period' for merger into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it has been revealed. "People of Fata have seen nothing but war and turmoil in the past 30 years. They now deserve peace, development and citizens' rights," the document containing the final draft of recommendations said.
Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, who heads the committee, will submit his report to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif upon his return from Britain later this month. The committee, constituted by Mr Sharif on Nov 8 last year, includes National Security Adviser retired Lt Gen Nasser Janjua, Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid and Minister for States and Frontier Regions, retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch. Members of the committee have visited all the tribal regions and held discussions with tribal elders, tribal representatives and government of-
ficials to elicit their views on reforms and the future status of Fata. The national security adviser provided input from the General Headquarters. "The general drift (of the recommendations) is towards a merger," a knowledgeable source told Dawn. "This seems to be the only workable and viable option," he said. The military, a key stakeholder in the ongoing deliberations concerning the future of Fata, has also given its feedback on the recommendations, a senior security official said. "There is no disagreement here," he said. "We all agree that Fata has to settle now and it
has to be streamlined," the official said. "The only consideration is that whatever timeframe we may follow it has to be realistic and it has to be with consultation and concurrence of all stakeholders." Sartaj Aziz declined to comment or discuss the content of the committee report. The recommendations echo sentiment within the civil-military establishment that after decades of turmoil, Fata is now poised for a change. "Due to new ground realities and regional security imperatives, marginal or short-term measures would not serve the purpose," the committee noted. Not part of the rec-
ommendations, Dawn has learnt on good authority that a proposal is also "actively' under discussion to put Fata under a separate administrative control with full administrative, legal and financial powers to push and oversee the transition period towards merger. "There is a need for total and full focus on Fata," a competent source said. "One thing is obvious: the current scheme of things with regard to Fata is not working," the source said. "Call him the CEO, call him the deputy governor, but he has to be a person with undivided attention and who is effective and can push things through." (Agencies)

'12.5 million children in Pakistan are involved in labour' Islamabad, Jun 13: More than a decade after June 12 was declared 'World Day Against Child Labour', over 12.5 million children in Pakistan are involved in child labour, according to a statement issued by the Child Rights Movement (CRM) National Secretariat. The statement cites an ILO report of 2004 which said that 264,000 children in Pakistan were then employed as domestic help. "There are 8.52 million home-based workers in the country, according to the figures released in the National Policy on Home-Based Workers, the number of child labourers up to the age of 10 years is around 6 million. This staggering number requires immediate action by the federal and provincial governments," the statement says. Under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Pakistan has committed to take immediate and effective mea-
sures to eradicate forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking as well as secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including the recruitment and use of child soldiers and by 2025, end child labour in all its forms. According to the statement, a large number of children still constitute a significant part of the labour force in Pakistan. Legislation relating to child employment are still not aligned with Article 25-A of the Constitution which gives each child a right to education and the employment of children remains unaddressed, particularly in sectors like agriculture, factories, small car workshops, shops, hotels, cinemas, vending on the streets, the fishing industry, mining, brick kilns, weaving, bracelet making, packing and construction etc. The statement claims that a large portion of these children
are employed through an informal economy in the street, in private structures or in their homes, which also deprives them of any form of safety and recognition. Denying children their fundamental right to be educated between the ages of five to 16 exposes them to health hazards, hampers their development and puts them at risk to other forms of violence, which may also be physical, psychological and sexual, the statement says. It goes on to say that children in the labour environment are highly vulnerable to exploitation including commercial and sexual as well as trafficking. "We, Pakistani citizens, cannot wait any further to provide those little citizens with respect and decency and cannot reasonably agree to sacrifice a significant portion of our next generation if we wish to create a prosperous Pakistan in line with SDGs and with the chal-
lenges of the 21st century. We therefore demand to the Pakistani government at provincial and national levels to take steps to abolish child labour," the statement says. It suggests amending and aligning child employment acts and other relevant laws with Article 25-A, to execute the ILO conventions ratified by the country and to arrest and prosecute all those employing children. CRM has also urged the government to increase budget allocations for education so that quality education is available to all children in Pakistan and to enact the National Commission on the Rights of the Child Bill, which is still pending in the National Assembly so that child right violations linked with child labour can be monitored and addressed. It suggests the development of national and provincial child protection
mechanisms to rehabilitate, support and reintegrate child labourers in formal education systems. Other recommendations include the development of family planning programs and the allocation of relevant resources to support families which are below the poverty lines so that their children are not involved in income generating activities, According to the statement, which was uploaded on the ILO website, 168 million children worldwide are involved in labour. "Child labour has no place in well-functioning and well regulated markets, or in any supply chain. The message that we must act now to stop child labour once and for all has been affirmed by the SDGs. Acting together, it is within our means to make the future of work a future without child labour," said ILO Director-General Guy Ryder.(Agencies)

Saving lives Blood donation is the need of the hour By many, blood is considered to be the living force of our body. The use of whole blood is now a well-accepted and wellused measure in many major surgeries and emergency care of trauma patients. Blood transfusion Photo: cesociety has been responsible for saving millions of lives each year around the world. Yet the quantity and quality of blood pool available for transfusions is still a major concern across the globe, especially in the developing countries. According to the World Health Organization, Southeast Asia's estimated blood requirement is about 16 million units per year, but it collects just about 9.4 million units annually, leaving a gap of 6 million units. India with its huge population of over 1 billion is lagging behind in blood collection. India has 2 433 blood banks that can collect 9 million units of blood annually, but collects only 7 million. From administrative point of view, India has four types of blood banks/centers. They are managed by the public (government) sector, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), nongovernment organizations (NGOs, on no profit basis), and commercial sectors. Roughly, about 55% blood banks are from the government sector, 5% from the IRCS, about 20-25% from the NGO sector and the rest are from corporate profit-making sectors. With 909 government-promoted blood banks, 362 voluntary organizations, 684 blood banks associated with private hospitals, and 500 blood banks owned by private charity organization, the blood bank services sector is highly fragmented in the country. In India, the ratio of usage of blood components to whole blood is 15:75, while globally it is 90:10, and there are many reasons. Many blood banks in India still lack the needed facilities to make blood components and thus most of them issue whole blood; thus, contributing to the shortage of blood and unnecessarily overburdening the patient cause harm at times, as blood transfusion reactions are more common in with whole blood transfusions. India faces a whopping blood deficit of approximately 30-35 per cent annually. The country needs around eight to 10 million units of blood every year but manages a measly 5.5 million units. On top of it, there exists mind-boggling gender disparity among blood donors. 94 per cent of blood donations in the county are made by men while women contribute only six per cent, as reported in the World Health Organization's (WHO) global database on blood safety updated in June 2011. However, the silver lining is that India reports the greatest increase in the number of voluntary unpaid blood donations from 3.6 million in 2007 to 4.6 million in 2008. The World Health Organization's (WHO) goal is for all countries to obtain all blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 2020. A strong action by blood donors and patients is required. Patients, if are unable to replace, should refuse to replace blood with the blood taken from blood bank if it demands replacement.
Assam Government Initiative Free higher education for the poor The importance of education cannot be neglected by any nation. And in today's world, the role of education has become even more vital. It is an absolute necessity for economic and social development of any nation. In the context of a democratic form of the government like ours, education is at once a social and political necessity. Today, the foremost need to be satisfied by our education is, therefore, the eradication of illiteracy which persists in a depressing measure. A true democracy is one where education is universal and the nation and know-how to govern them. In a laudable decision, Assam government announced free education for students with family income less than Rs one lakh per annum who are taking admissions in higher secondary, three-year degree and polytechnic diploma courses from this year. According to Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is the first state in India to make higher education free for poor students. There will be absolutely no fee for those students whose parents' income is less than Rs 1 lakh a year. And this will cover 310 government and provincialised colleges across the state benefiting 50,000-60,000 students. Whereas private institutions are outside the purview of this decision. The state government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 70 crore for this in the first year, which will increase in the subsequent years. So far the other disciplines are concerned, the state Government are talking to universities, medical colleges and engineering institutes in the same line. As these are autonomous institutions we will need their consent. Giving details, he said a student would have to furnish documentary evidence of parents' income at the time of admission in the form of salary slips for state and central government staff or employer's certificate for private sector worker or proof of income by circle officer or 'mauzadar'. And in case if a student cannot arrange any of the above, then the principal and the admission committee of the college in their wisdom feel that the income of his/her parents is below or Rs one lakh, then also the concerned principal can give free admission to the student. The scheme's declaration was partially in keeping with BJP's pre-poll Vision Document, which promised free college education for girls from all economic classes. The announcement, which is likely to cost the government Rs 70 crore per year, coincided with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal seeking financial assistance from the Centre to tide over a liability of Rs 10,000 crore, which according to the CM his government had inherited from the previous Congress government.

ism." In fact a U.S. Senate's Foreign Relations Committee report from 2011 also warns that unless Pakistan and India are able to resolve their water disputes amicably, a future war between them cannot be ruled out. Recently, when the Royal Institute of International Affairs, better known as Chatham House, launched a survey of the attitudes toward water in South Asia, it found the challenges "exacerbating" trans-boundary water concerns in the region. "There is a scope of updating it (IWT)," Gareth Price, senior research fellow at Chatham House, tells me in his London office. "Ten years ago if you would talk about IndiaPakistan tension one would end up saying water is one good thing in their relationship. But in last ten years, it suddenly shifted. Because there are more people, there is potentially less rain or more climate change related things ‌ more flooding or there is more encroachment," he says. The way out Pakistan's agricultural economy is effectively a bet on the Indus waters. Imagine the sixth most populous country, with nuclear weapons and one of the largest standing armies in the world, torn apart by lack of water and changing climate. Such a
Image for representational purpose (Photo: blog.wallstreetsurvivor) scenario could have dangerous ramifications on all of South Asia. As Anatol Lieven warned in his book Pakistan - A Hard Country, "those Indians who would be tempted to rejoice in Pakistan's fall should therefore consider that it would almost certainly drag India down with it." The IWT was signed in 1960. The populations of both Pakistan and India are no longer same, and populations will only increase more by the middle of 21st century, making review of the treaty vital. The IWT also didn't take into account the impact of climate change. Its amendment also becomes important as people in disputed Kashmir are seek-
ing a greater say in the affairs involving their land's resources. Pakistan and India must consult each other on all major projects on the Indus river system that might have cause a hostile environmental impact across borders. Both nations must improve domestic water management and encourage less waterintensive crops. Improved infrastructure could help plug power distribution losses while both countries need to increase rainwater-harvesting projects wherever possible as well. Meanwhile, Kashmir must radically limit human intervention in the eco-fragile zones. Both Pakistan and India should also examine the environ-
mental degradation in the entire basin. Currently there is no mechanism in the IWT to fund ecological preservation. Pakistan and India could jointly build dams and share benefits. This could lower their tensions over water sharing. But ideally reliance on hydroelectricity could be avoided by adopting solar energy instead. Even outside of Kashmir, disputes linked to water often snowball into major controversies or become a costly legal affair in courts of arbitration. Solving the Kashmir dispute could tone down both sides' water rhetoric and ultimately lead to a win-win situation over the usage of shared waters. Concluded Courtesy: the diplomat

playgrounds, etc, that were regularly at threat from industry seemed safer. However, during elections, they entirely cycled back in the name of redressing stalled growth and, in a bid to garner corporate campaign funding, forests were allotted to industry. The Modi government just took this further through its environment ministry. The supposed fast growth agenda came at a cost too. In August 2014, a committee was set up to review key environmental and climate change laws. Critics found its mandate too enormous and its agenda too vague. It had fewer than ten public consultations and only one in its five members was closely associated with the environment. It gave recommendations within just three months to change laws in a manner that effectively bulldozed what they called roadblocks to investment. These were a variety of human rights and environment protections. They recommended a single window clearance for green permits and even suggested removal of government and individual monitoring mechanisms for green purposes, instead requiring self disclosure from corporations. Viewed in context, a major-
ity of coal producing areas are forested and home to tribal populations. Entire villages have already lodged protests demanding the cessation of industrial activities and of the expansion of mines. The rhetoric of jobs and better human development goes unfulfilled, since these populations lose land and then struggle to get jobs. Access to the forests is denied to them as industries are empowered through such provisions and eventually cut away from the expensive welfare nets that these industries provide. This goes against not just the NDA's explicit manifesto promises regarding tribal land and tribal health, but is also a welfare policy disaster in the wake of the recommendation of the report of the High Level Committee on Socio-Economic, Health and Educational Status of Tribal Communities of India. The Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has himself called his ministry's green policies a roadblock to development. The ministry embarked upon a reinterpretation of the Forest Rights Act, which would make it much easier for the government to secure tribal

Sir, For many bureaucrats and officials of the government of Assam, the word 'Patriotism' is a misnomer. In fact, their sole objective is to fatten their personal coffers. Rather than doing anything good to the people of Assam. We fail to understand why the government of Assam fails to nab all these corrupt officers attaching their properties. It is worth mentioning that good number of cases are still pending against some IAS and ACS officers in different courts of Assam. on last June 7, our Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma along with two other ministers visited Kaziranga National Park and on the very date of their visit, yet another rhino was killed and its horn chopped off. People of Assam are well aware of the fact that forest department is one of the most corrupt departments in Assam. in the name of Exposure Tour as many as 14 top officers of the forest department are now touring in Paris to
forestlands. This draft was picked from a rejected report of the previous government, which was vilified on grounds of inadequately respecting the Forest Rights Act. Consent from the 'gram sabhas' or village self governance bodies is no longer a strict requirement in the re-interpreted draft of the ministry; the public hearings that are held before land acquisition become consultative and a veto is denied to the gram sabha. States are furthermore left to ascertain the need and the strength of consent, under this draft, thus absolving the onus of the government at center. This culminated in the Land Bill 2015, which has been introduced, protested, tabled, and revived and is in constant tussle in Parliament. Thus, while evaluating the Modi government's performance in the arena of the rights of tribal communities, his electoral promises, far from being unfulfilled, seem to be explicitly turned on their heads. While the commitment to speedy results may seem lucrative, in this case they set back key disempowered stakeholders that the government committed to protect. Courtesy: The Diplomat

Over the years, the cultural heritage of India has been strengthened by such influences from the world. For instance, Bihar is famous for the celebrated Madhubani paintings, Bengal for the recently discovered Kalighat, Rajasthan has quite a few to its credit, namely the Phad and Miniature paintings, Madhya Pradesh is famous for the Gond tribal paintings, while the distinct Kalamkari has made Andhra proud. The Mughals brought their culture to India and what we see now, is a beautiful blend of both cultures whereas the East India Company came with an intention to trade, extracting whatever it could, nevertheless, exposing India to technological advancements. They sourced raw material, mainly 'cotton' from India and made India a market for their machine-made products, eventually killing the vibrant handloom industry. Since then the handloom industry gradually vanished as the country got poorer. The emperors who had a charm for these exquisite products fled away, depriving weavers of the patronage they received. Weavers
and lifestyle industries becomes imperative, as it is one of the most highly polluting industries. Today, many European countries strongly value handmade and sustainable products, building a movement to revive hand-made in lieu of mass-produced products, making sustainable and ethical clothing the buzz word. IKEA has tied up with many small local companies like Rangsutra etc., hence our products have found their way to the plush European markets. Many small enterprises and big labels like Hermes are working with artisans from Indian villages to create unique apparels. These pieces then find their way to grand fashion shows where the world applauds its beauty. While the west turns towards the east and its art
forms, handlooms and handicrafts, we have yet to move on from the millmade products from the west. It is time that we join the pack and understand what we stand to lose, if we do not act in time. Pragmatically, keeping the rate of unemployment in mind, it makes sense to switch to labourintensive small and medium industries which require hand-work, providing employment and income to many households. There are several recent ventures like Anokhi, Jaypore etc. that employ rural artisans and produce garments that comply with fair trade principles and qualify as ethical clothing. Another problem faced is the lack of awareness and will to endorse such products. Consumers are unaware of hand-made products and in many cases, tend to compare them with mill-made products that are comparatively cheaper. A massive awareness drive is needed to educate the younger population about the benefits of handloom and sustainable products. The government has to play a major role in promoting and spreading awareness about the cause because it will be a great loss if the country fails to support its artisans. In fact, the Ministry of Textiles has done a commendable job in promoting Khadi and handloom products under the Indian Handloom Brand (IHB). India is again standing at a place where it can command its worth, by teaching the world to live resourcefully and the world is turning towards it for the knowledge and resources. We need to conserve our resources, utilise the strength of young people and their skills, learn to respect artisans and move towards sustainable technologies and options. Myopic and short term gains might seem lucrative now but a foresighted approach will secure our future. We undoubtedly need technology but we also need to understand that excessive reliance on machine-made products and complete negligence towards hand-made and sustainable products could lead us towards a doomsday of its own.

DIPP to put conditions for foreign investors Mumbai, Jun 13: The DIPP may put certain conditions for foreign investors in the Cabinet proposal for allowing FDI in food processing sector. Officials of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and Food Processing Ministry are discussing mutually agreeable conditions to be included in the proposal, an official said. The development comes in the wake of Ministry of Food processing asking to put a condition of investing 25 percent of the foreign inflows for creating agriculture infrastructure in the proposal. The original proposal sent to the Union Cabinet did not have any condition. Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal is demanding that foreign players looking to invest in the sector would have to mandatorily invest a portion of their investments in building infrastructure at the farm gate level for the benefit of farmers. The minister is asking for putting a condition of investing 25 percent of the for-
eign inflows for creating agriculture infrastructure. However, another official said that inclusion of any kind of condition in the proposal may hamper investments in the sector. As per the original proposal, the DIPP had proposed to allow 100 percent FDI in marketing of food products produced and manufactured in India after approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). The government is also likely to permit business-to- consumer online selling of food products produced and manufactured domestically. The food processing sector has attracted USD 5,285.66 million FDI during April 2012 to December 2015 period. The government had stated that FDI in food processing will benefit farmers, reduce wastage of fruits and vegetables, give impetus to the industry and create vast employment opportunities. Overall FDI in the country registered a growth of 29 percent in 2015-16. It stood at USD 40 billion in that fiscal. (Agencies)

HORTICULTURE Women today are out there working, travelling and consuming the newest trends off international runways on their phones. Ankur Modi and Priyanka Modi are the proud owners of the AM:PM designer clothing brand, with its headquarters in the capital. (Source: IANS) Ankur and Priyanka Modi's journey in the fashion world along with their brand AM: PM has a history of 12 years in the industry. Over the years, they have noticed that fashion nowadays is sought, bought and worn more to express oneself as compared to the days when Indian women were dictated by an 'implicit convention'. "Until a few years back, Indian women were dictated by an implicit convention. They were dressing according to the
society's expectations. Women today, on the other hand, are out there working, travelling and consuming the newest trends off international runways on their phones. Thanks to the world becoming flatter, fashion is now so much more democratic", said Ankur, son of ace designer Anju Modi. The biggest change, he said, is the mind-shift. "The modern Indian woman is dressing her personality. Thus, the fashion industry has become more dynamic and we as designers have to constantly evolve to keep up with the same", Ankur added. His wife Priyanka, who is one-half of their widely popular AM:PM brand which specialises in luxury pret - also feels that Indian textile is getting the right attention. However, she feels there is a lot more that needs to
be done. "Designers are always looking to innovate and evolve. Doing that with indigenous textiles or crafts is always a great idea. This drive of modernising Indian handicrafts will surely benefit weavers and craftsmen around the country, though impact on designers who are doing this to attract international attention, according to us, will be minimal. This is not to say that it won't peek any interest, but we shouldn't mistake interest with any intent of doing significant business. It's an exotic product for them (foreigners) and hence, they're likely to only appeal to that very small niche", Priyanka said. At the same time, she also feels it only makes sense for fashion industry players and leaders
Fashion is now more democratic, says AM: PM designers to 'introspect' as to why the talent does not translate into promising and
encouraging numbers in terms of business. "Of course, with all the
positives, also come the negatives", Priyanka said, and added, "We feel there is a lot still to be desired in terms of how we approach the business as an industry. Everyday, we see new labels being launched, new designers becoming entrepreneurs, but the total size of the

fashion design industry is roughly Rs 1,200 crore. We must collectively introspect and understand why is it that when we have all the talent, we have no real bearing on the retail market? These are pertinent questions which need to be answered as soon as possible." As a dynamic team, Ankur and Priyanka Modi work together in a way that they complement each other's skills and areas of expertise. Their AM:PM brand has grown steadily, with the headquarters in New Delhi, and retailing out of a total of 25 stores across 15 major cities in India. Internationally, AM:PM can be found at select stores in the US, Britain, Russia, Brazil and the Middle-East. Now they're eyeing major expansion as they
'realise the expandability quotient of the brand and the fact that it can venture into so many more verticals of fashion and lifestyle'. "Going forward, it would probably be the most crucial asset we possess", said Ankur. "We are slated to open 20 more exclusive-AM:PM stores within the next three years in India, Dubai, Singapore, US and Britain. Apart from this, we retail from 15 of the most exclusive multidesigner boutiques nationally and internationally and are also available on premium online portals", said Priyanka. For young aspirants in the fashion world, they have a word of advice. 'It is very important for a designer to believe in creating their own language and remaining true to that.' The Beginner's Guide Beat Your Sugar Addiction to Running
Representational image (Photo: thebestrunningshoes)
When it comes to running, everybody needs to start somewhere. If you are a stranger to the track, the best way to get started is to physically pace yourself and ease into a healthy lifestyle. Below are a few helpful tips: Walk Before-or WhileYou Run Before you attempt to run as fast as the pros, you need to establish how much your body can take.
If you consider yourself to be less than athletic, you may want to start running shorter distances. If you have been athletic in the past but put fitness on the back burner, you may be able to run faster or farther, but still may want to ease into increasing distance and speed. Health experts have noted that a mixture of walking and running is a good strategy for new runners.
With this method, a person will switch between walking and running for the duration of his or her workout. For example, articles appearing in The New York Times suggest that a beginner should run for 10 to 30 seconds and then walk for 1 to 2 minutes, repeating for the entirety of their workout. As a person gains more confidence and experience, their running time
will increase as their walking time decreases. For example, an experienced runner may spend six to eight minutes running and 30 seconds to one minute walking. A Winning Warmup Many know that warming up and stretching can increase flexibility of muscles and joints, contributing to a safer workout. Walking briskly for up to 10 minutes before a run can prepare your legs and major muscle groups for more exertion. Stretching your arms and legs in different directions will also help your joints gain a wider range of motion. Prepare with Protein According to British Sports Nutritionist James Collins, each type of preparation day requires a different meal plan. For
example, on a day of rest or relaxed workouts, a person should eat more protein and ditch foods that are high in carbs. One strategy to prevent hunger throughout the day can involve eating a protein-rich breakfast. On a day with a heavy workout, Collins suggests that a person may want to increase their carbohydrate intake. Additionally, eating protein-packed snacks or dinners after a workout will help the body recover and boost overnight muscle growth. Collins notes that one should drink plenty of water to boost hydration. Other important nutrients include omega 3s, often found in fish, which prevent and reduce inflammation. Additionally, an-
tioxidant-rich foods such as vegetables can reduce free-radical damage caused by training. Know Your Limits If you have a prior health condition, consult your healthcare practitioner to create the best workout plan for you. While a moderate level of running is good for the heart and longevity, a recent study found that shorter lifespans and cardiac risks are linked to those who ran or overexerted themselves too often. According to the Huffington Post, five signs of running too much include trouble sleeping, general fatigue, lingering soreness, moodiness, and an increased resting heart rate. Courtesy: tasteforlife
Every new day offers the chance to beat a bad habit-and improve the way you feel. If your bathroom scale has recently registered gains, you probably know how much damage sugary desserts and treats can do. Low in nutrients and high in empty calories and fats, most holiday baked goods-along with many processed foods, juices, and soft drinkscontribute to aging, blood sugar imbalances, cardiovascular disease, learning problems, obesity, tooth decay, Type 2
easy way to boost fiber intake is to mix one teaspoon of psyllium to a glass of water with a splash of cranberry or pomegranate juice a half hour before breakfast or retiring for the night. "Psyllium is a naturally occurring bulking agent with no side effects-unless you have a rare allergy to the plant," says nutritionist Nan Kathryn Fuchs, PhD. "Because it contains no artificial sweeteners, sugar, or potentially harmful chemicals, it's safer than other over-the-counter bulking agents."
Is office dress code dead? Experts weigh in Looks like that the rigid work uniform has been diluted in favour of a more relaxed and individualistic dressing 'Casual Friday' seems to have trumped power dressing. In the era of the 'flat shoe' uproars, gender equality and fluidity and hoodiedonning billionaires, it's more about asserting your personal style than being a strict sartorial conformist. The New York City Commission on Human Rights announced new guidelines for the municipal human rights law that expressly prohibited "enforcing dress codes, uniforms, and grooming standards that impose different requirements based on sex or gender." Mark Zuckerberg, for example, is on the record as saying he dons the same gray T-shirt every day so that he can focus his energy on other decisions. Is personal expression is going to trump the desire to create a corporate identity? How has this power shift impacted the Indian culture? Designer Anita Dongre opines that fashion has always been about personal expression. "The language and nuances change with time and generations. The definition of corporate has changed. Because, the culture of the word corporate itself has seen a sea change.
From a stiff western idea of corporate to the easier startup culture, from antiquated views of women needing to be like men and projecting masculine codes at work to being strong voices and still retaining their natural feminine self. So the so-called corporate identity itself has altered. One can take a creative approach to dressing in 'work' mode, even if they're wearing jeans. It's very individualistic. Experimenting with outfits that help you feel more like yourself is key." Anita's popular label, AND was conceived with the very concept of providing women elegant office-to-evening staple that can transition from work to play in a fashionable flash. "Think high waist skirts, shift dresses, culottes and flared pants, a combination of separates in prints as well as solids, and matching separates. Today, women are remarkable professionals who have made it to the top in all areas of business, the arts, sports, culture, science and more. So, yes AND is definitely doing well in the workspace. Feeling good today is a powerful component of the toolkit at work. Earlier, work wear for women were stiff versions of men's work wear, restricted to suits, fitted pencil skirts, and buttoned-up jackets. As a brand, AND has changed the notion of corporate wear
and introduced easy feminine work wear." She adds, "Power dressing has always been a western concept, whereas we as a country, have always been about casual dressing. It's just that we have more
imperative to have a common ideal while working in a group with others. "Being a workwear services company we cater to several industries and it is extremely important for us to maintain a proper workwear regime in
Mark Zuckerberg, for example, is on the record as saying he dons the same gray T-shirt every day so that he can focus his energy on other decisions (Photo: blogspot) women going out and working today. For different mindsets, my brand Global Desi, which is a sharp contrast to AND, has also changed the way women dress. So, I don't think there has been any big shift as such." Anupam Chakrabarty, MD, Lindstrom India a work wear services company feels that while it is essential for employees to express themselves, it is also
order to safeguard our as well as our client's employees from health and hygiene issues. At the production level, there is a set list of garments and workwear that the employees wear where the products are designed along keeping in mind working conditions as well as user level convenience. However, at the corporate level the dressing could be relaxed but with branding to build the sense of corporate iden-
tity and image building of the organisation itself. We believe that potential clients would be happier to interact with a person in let's say a best in class hospital/airport/ retail showrooms in clean corporate branded uniform rather than someone in a casual individual workwear," he says. Casual dressing in corporate scene en vogue Anupam adds, "Adoption of casual dressing in the corporates have been in vogue for some time now but there are other sectors or corporates, who are very particular about their dress code. A good balance needs to be achieved between having a uniform dress code to enhance team spirit in an organisation, improve hygiene and health amongst employees with a few exceptions to enjoy free days for casual dressing. Most organisations in India have not put adequate thought behind the value that a workwear can create and it is only now that people have started realising that this could be a very simple tool not just for creating team bonding and spirit but also creating a brand image. The idea is that when employees have the right kind of workwear they feel more satisfied thus improving the creation of excellent customer experiences." Istayak Ansari, Co-
founder, and Director Lloyds Luxuries Ltd says, "Over time, entrepreneurs believe in dressing in such a way that brings out and reflects their personality rather than dressing to meet the gender stereotypes. In fact, personal expression creates unique, one-of-akind and everlasting impressions as you are what you wear. I believe it makes everyone stand apart and hence creates a distinct corporate identity. Your first impression becomes your everlasting impression. As Mark Zuckerberg says, it draws focus and attention to the bigger and greater decisions. You can work faster, better and finer and be you, all at the same time. I believe it has worked positively and can do wonders." Sonal Khatri, Corporate Fashion Stylist, MBD Stylebox feels that the world has become a glocal village, everyone has a shrine for their individualist needs and wants. "From classical music to rock and metal, from hippie-trucks to Rolls Royce, from a boho hut to home at moon - there are many factors. Moreover, the youth is taking an active part in politics. It's an interesting time when society is slowly giving equal rights and freedom to men, women, gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders to be who they are." Courtesy: dnaindia

India cruise to eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe, take unassailable 2-0 lead Harare, June 13: India won the one-day international series against Zimbabwe with an easy eight-wicket win in the second match on Monday. It followed the same plot as the first match on Saturday. India won the toss, made Zimbabwe bat, Zimbabwe was all out for little, and India cruised to victory. On Saturday, it was by nine wickets, on Monday it was by eight. The third and last ODI is on Wednesday. Zimbabwe was in a relatively good position at 106-3 in the 26th over. Then legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who made his debut on Saturday, claimed in successive balls Sikandar Raza (16), who was caught on the boundary, and trapped Elton Chigumbura (duck).
In his next over, Chahal got Vusi Sibanda, the leading scorer on 53, who tried a big sweep and only edged it. At 107-6, Zimbabwe didn’t recover, and was all out for 126 in 35 overs. It lost its last six wickets for 20 runs. Sean Williams didn’t bat because he injured his finger after the toss. Murray hopes Lendl Siddle confident of regaining holds key to end his baggy green post recovery Djokovic's dominance ANI
Andy Murray ANI Johannesburg, June 13 : Confirming his reunion with Ivan Lendl, world number two Andy Murray hopes that his decision to rejoin forces with his former coach would play a major role in the battle to end top-ranked Novak Djokovic's reign. The 29-year-old revealed that he had agreed a deal to resume his relationship with Lendl two years after they parted ways, Sport24 reported. Djokovic has been dominating the sport from last year, having won all four Grand Slam title after beating Murray in the French Open final earlier this month. He has won a total of 24 matches out of their previous 34 encounters. Murray, however, enjoyed a golden period during his
previous two-year spell with Lendl as he went on to clinch the US Open title and a gold medal at the Olympics in 2012 before becoming the first British man to win the Wimbledon title after 77 years in 2013. The Briton said he is planning to develop his game under Llendl so that he could put up strong performance against big players. Admitting Djokovic is playing great tennis at the moment, Murray insisted that although he is moving in the right direction, he still needs to improve his performance in order to get past the Serbian. Murray's decision to split with Lendl originally came because the 56-year-old former number one was unwilling to spend extra time with Murray on the gruelling ATP Tour.

Germany Football (1) ANI London, June 13 : Germany began their quest for a record fourth European Championship title with a 2-0 win over Ukraine in their Group C clash on Monday. Melbourne, June 13 : Australian pacer Peter Siddle, who spent almost three months treating his back and ankle problems, is confident and committed to regain his spot in the side's Test XI. The 31-year-old, who retained his contract with Cricket Australia in April, suffered a stress fracture during his side's tour to New Zealand in February after which he also underwent an ankle surgery. The injury saw him miss most of the New Zealand tour and also ruled him out of the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka, thus casting some doubt over his future in baggy green. Despite injury, Siddle insisted that he is one of the best bowlers in the country and expressed confidence of being picked in
Peter Siddle the Test squad if he proves his fitness. "I know when I'm fully fit that I'm probably going to be getting picked. When I'm at my best, I know I'm one of the better bowlers in the country and that's all I can work at," Siddle was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. Piddle, however, admit-
ted that he went a bit careless with his injuries because he did not want to miss any opportunity to play for Australia "Nothing was showing up (on scans) and so you just keep playing. I knew it wasn't quite right, but you never want to give up an opportunity to play for Australia," he added.

Jayarajan-Anju George spat: AFI backs 'legendary' long jumper ANI New Delhi, June 13 : The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has expressed complete solidarity for World Championships bronze medalist Anju Bobby George, who is the country's highest achiever in track and field sports till date. Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) president Anju had recently accused state's Sports Minister EP Jayarajan of insulting her and charging her with false claims of financial irregularities. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, how-
ever, came to the rescue of his Cabinet colleague last week and said Jayarajan neither misbehaved nor abused the former athlete. Reflecting on the same, the AFI urged the Kerala Chief Minister to extend full support to the legendary long jumper, who has brought great laurels to the country throughout her athletics career. Anju's job has been under scrutiny with the state government mulling to bring amendment for reconstituting of the Sports Council by dissolving the current administrative committee. to the athlete, the AFI said, "Anju Bobby George is arguably India's
greatest athlete as the only Indian Athlete to win a Medal in the IAAF
World Championships till now. On behalf of the entire athletics fraternity in the country, we salute her selfless and indefatigable service to Indian athletics and extend her absolute support at this juncture." "We also request the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala to extend full encouragement to Anju Bobby George so that she can carry on performing her duties with aplomb as the President of the Kerala State Sports Council," the AFI added. The AFI also pointed out the contribution made by Anju's family for development of sports in the state.
"Anju Bobby George and her family are a rare sports family in the country and her brother, Ajith Markose is an international coaching licence holder and has been attached with the Indian team for many internationals, including Asian Games. We are shocked that instead of appreciating their contribution, unnecessary criticism has been made. Sports should be above party politics and the AFI staunchly hails Anju Bobby George's contribution to Indian sports," the AFI said.
