Dispelling all doubts on the Citizenship (amendment) Bill that engulf the political environment of the state in recent days, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that Govt. of Assam will safeguard the interest of all the indigenous people of the state in right earnest.

Lauding the role of UBPO in unification of all Bodo people settled in different parts of the state, the Chief Minister advocated for similar measures to make the Assamese community more cohesive and inclusive.

Dibrugarh police headed by Additional SP (Security) Surjit Singh Paneswar today arrested Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Chief, Rakesh Paul from Guwahati in connection with the arrest of Nabakanta Patir. Surjit Singh Paneswar told the ET over phone from Guwahati that today they have arrested Rakesh Paul because enough evidences were found against him and they will produce him at court tomorrow. Paneswar said, “Till now we cannot say anything but our interrogation is on.’’ Police said that he was arrested on corruption charges under section 7/13(1)(b)(d) of prevention of Corruption Act
