OUR AIM IS TO WIN A COMMONWEALTH GAMES MEDAL: SIKKI REDDY, PRANAAV CHOPRA

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) alleged that there has been infighting going on between two groups within the BJP Party, Shri Kiren Rijiju at the centre and Tapir Gao at the state. “There cannot be smoke without fire”. Everyone in the state and BJP high command know that there are differences between both the groups since the time when Tapir Gao was made as the head of State BJP,

At the day of taking incharge as State BJP President Mr. Gao has given deadline to the then PPA Govt. to merge with BJP by 30th June 2016. However, there is a twist now, says APCC, now BJP itself is asking J.P Rajkhowa, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to resign on health ground. This is the hidden politics of double standard BJP party “Bahar Se Kuch Aurr,

Andar Se Kuch Aur”, alleged APCC. APCC alleged that Mr. Rajkhowa was used to dethrone the popular and democratically elected Congress Govt. in the state on the behest of Central Govt. for which Modi & BJP’s images gone down very badly and for which they will be suffered in the forthcoming Assembly elections in many states. Modi and BJP should learn lesson from the political case of Arunachal Pradesh and

Uttarakhand, says APCC while adding that as a result of their differences between the two groups there are fighting between the central govt and Constitutional Head of the State. Blaming on opposition political parties for their own difference is really surprising and unfortunate, which shows their frustration just to deflect their difference. APCC cautioned BJP that “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones at other’s house”.

Guwahati, Sept 7: Cross-border illegal trade into Myanmar has now become the primary route for smuggling rhino horns from Assam after the Nepal-China route virtually stopped since 2013 for the clandestine trade following crackdown by the Himalayan nation authorities on rhino poaching networks, according to experts dealing with wildlife crime. Northeast's Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram shares 1,6,43 km almost porous border with Myanmar. Ahead of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)'s 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 17) from

September 24 to October 5 in Johannesburg, a report by the Asian and African rhino specialist groups of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)-Species Survival Commission (SSC) and TRAFFIC (a wildlife trade monitoring network) has said that the spike in rhino poaching in Assam from 2013 has resulted in at least 24 rhino horn seizures in India, with only two cases suggesting "onward export" to Nepal. CITES is an international agreement between governments, which aims at ensuring international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. The report said that though the CoP 15 (held in March 2010 in Doha) had indicated that most

rhino horns from Assam moved first to Nepal then on to China, the trade patterns have changed since then.

The report authored by Richard H Emslie, Tom Milliken, Bibhab Talukdar, Susie Ellis, Keryn Adcock and Michael H Knight pointed out that since the seizures of three rhino horns in Nepal 20102011 including a case that involved two Chinese national in that country, the Nepalese law enforcement become more stringent with the dismantling of a rhino poaching network and arresting a major Kathmandu-based trader who allegedly ran a cross-border smuggling from Nepal to Tibet in October 2013. "Cross-border trade into

Myanmar has become the primary route for Assam horns, according to investigations by AsRSG (Asian Rhino Specialist Group) members. TRAFFIC's seizure data supports this view with China making three horn seizures in Yunnan province in 2010-2011 that involved cross-border trade from Myanmar's Kachin state; these seizures are believed to represent greater one-horned rhino," the report said. Further, it said that in 2015, four rhino horns were also seized in the Muse township in Shan state of Myanmar and in Manipur another rhino horn was seized in the same year. "Rhino horns have also been observed for sale in Mong La, another border enclave in Myanmar's Shan state that functions

as a notorious 'backdoor' wildlife trafficking hub to China," the report cited. The greater one-horned rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) is categorized as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Assam has the largest population of the species in India with an estimated 2,625 rhinos. The report said though Kaziranga National Park in Assam has 82.5% of India's population, the number is increasing at a slow rate of 1.6% since 2012. According to 2015 estimate, the park has 2,401 rhinos. At least 40 rhinos poached between 2010 and 2012, and 41 in 2013 in the state. In 2014 and 2015 about 30 and 20 rhinos poached respectively. This year state lost 10 rhinos to poachers so far.

Pan-India tea auction fails to generate fair price: ITA Assam Guwahati, Sep 7 (IANS) The pan-India auction of tea has not been able to generate competition for a fair price as many producers were compelled to sell lower than their production cost, the India Tea Association's (ITA) Assam branch said on Wednesday. "It would appear that despite all efforts of the Tea Board at introducing pan-India auctions, the platform has been unable to generate competition for a fair price discovery. Many producers are compelled to sell tea well below the cost of production," it said, adding it will have serious conse-

quences in the future on the industry's sustainability. The association said efforts being made by producers to explore alternative private channels of sale for better price are also inhibited by the Tea Board's mandate that "50 per cent of the tea manufactured must be routed through public auctions". "Selling tea through auction entails a higher transaction cost on account of sampling and warehousing. Further, there is no guarantee that the tea will be sold above the production cost," an association statement

Arunachal was left under developed pre-1998 fearing Chinese attack: Kiren Rijiju PTI New Delhi, Sept 7: Previous governments had adopted a "defeatist" attitude by not constructing roads in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh as they felt Chinese forces could use them, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said on Wednesday. Speaking ad lib at a conference on 'Homeland Security, Smart Border Management' organised by FICCI here, the Minister of State for Home Affairs claimed an "unwritten" policy of the governments of the past was not to develop border areas. He cited a statement made by L K Advani during a visit to Arunachal Pradesh when he was the deputy prime minister that India was making a "huge blunder" by neglecting its borders. "I am talking about pre1998. Our deputy prime minister L K Advani came to Arunachal Pradesh. He made a very important statement at

Itanagar. He said India has committed a 'huge blunder' by neglecting its border," Rijiju, who hails from the northeastern state, said. "Because the policy (previously) was don't construct roads in Arunachal Pradesh. If you develop roads the Chinese will come and use them in the time of crisis. That means you are a defeatist, you have a defeatist mindset. In Ladakh, don't construct good roads along the border because they may use it. So to protect our territory leave it underdeveloped... What kind of policy we had in India. Terrible!" he said. "So, when Advani ji came he said it is very, very regrettable that this was the policy of the country," Rijiju said, adding people in border areas crave for development. He

Are they least bothered or not capable to do so? Do they need someone to lodge FIR in writing? The Council urged the Namsai Police and Administration to announce if it is just rumor or truth. It is your primary duty to do it and win the confidence of the common people who have been living in panic ever since the matter went viral the last odd fortnight. Please remember, there is a truth, "Spark neglected burns the house". It is high time, matter be thoroughly

investigated and untoward, if any, is averted. This will be in the greater interest of the people to live in peace and harmony. former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had initiated Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna in far-flung areas of Arunachal Pradesh and quoted him as saying "it takes will power and not money to work for development". Noting that border guarding is a challenging task, the minister said, "We have done a commendable job in managing our borders successfully. There were one or two incidents like Kargil but by and large we have managed our borders or at least made it look like we have successfully managed our borders. The government whoever is there." Terming border management as most important subject, Rijiju said it has not been able to draw the required attention of either the government or the people. "I always feel that a country is as secure as its borders. And no matter how robust economic system we try to create within the country,

PAGE 5

if your border is not secured then you can understand what all robust arrangement we are talking about," he said. The minister said it is not easy to secure 15,000 km of land and a coastal border of over 7,500 km. He said the borders with Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan allow free movement of people unlike those with Pakistan and Bangladesh along which security needs to be strengthened further. "We are trying to make the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh completely fool-proof and fenced so that other than those designated border posts, people cannot cross over at other places," he said. Rijiju said despite best efforts, trafficking of humans and drugs is difficult to stop across these borders. "I have tried to understand it over the past two years why we cannot stop it. In the

Home Ministry we try to understand and I always insist that we have to stop it, the illegal infiltration," he said, adding "Our border guarding forces are trying their level best, still these incidents do not stop." He called for setting up of a joint mechanism to deal with border issues. "Pakistan has also to ensure that their people do not cross. If their military, agencies or organisations from the other side, if they keep making attempts 24 hours, then they will be successful. So it has to be a joint mechanism. "Having said that, we shouldn't be dependent on them. That 100 per cent fool-proof security arrangement in the border area will be only if we can make the other country realise that it is the necessity for both the countries to ensure that," he said.

AP Congress Seva Dal wants Rajkhowa to be sacked Itanagar, 7 Sept: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) calls for the immediate sacking or resignation of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, J. P Rajkhowa in the larger interests of safeguarding the constitutional propriety in Arunachal Pradesh. tussle will unfold another dark chapter in the political history of the state which is yet to recover from the wounds of the political machinations of the NDA Government which resulted in the loss of the precious life of a senior leader of the state.

The recent statements of Rajkhowa points out to an impending tussle between the NDA Government and the Governor, who seemingly is not ready to resign even after being directed at the highest levels. This

It is clear from the actions both past and present of the Governor that he is only inclined to enjoy the fruits of Governorship rather than serving and contributing towards the state. Therefore, his re-

If there is an iota of self respect and respect for the people of the state , Rajkhowa should gracefully resign and exit the state. We are peace loving people who want peace and development in the state. We don't want a person who is mentally and temperamentally inclined to pick up fights with the establishment for every lame excuse, stated APCSD. The people of Arunachal Pradesh will never forget 26th January'2016. The 26th January is Black day for People of Arunachal

when Presidents Rule was imposed without any substantive basis. APCSD Chief Organiser Shri Kipa Kaha Had vehemently condemns Rajkhowa's recent interviews where he has challenged the NDA Government to sack him. Mr. Rajkhowa is a shameless person of North East India as well as he is shameless IAS(Rtd.) from Northeast India. It is needless to me to mention that he was hand in gloves in the political machinations of the Centre to enter Arunachal through the backdoor. His role is comparable to a parasite who harms the very system which feeds him. Therefore, he has to go.

'Don't Live In The Shadows Of People's Judgement' Here's the full letter:

TEACHERS REFORM IN ARUNACHAL he education scenario of the state Arunachal Pradesh is one of the worst in the country. The state result of the last CBSE board exam is a testimony to this. So far, there has been no significant education reform taken in the state in spite of several occasions of outcry from the public regarding the same. But with the recent announcements made by the incumbent Chief Minister Pema Khandu, there is a hope; if at all, his ideas are implemented. He announced that recruitment of teachers will be conducted by Arunachal Pradesh Service Commission so that well qualified and competent candidates are appointed as teachers.

T

Taking cognizance of shortage of subject teachers especially Mathematics and Science Subjects, he have proposed recruitment ratio of 50:50 to be implemented for APST and Non APST in teacher employment for the said two subjects. He further mooted a plan to give gazetted status to Senior Teachers of the state. However, the main important component of the education reform is the training of teachers. "Research has shown that teachers are the most important school-based factor in determining student achievement. Comprehensive teacher effectiveness reform must include bringing accountability to teacher preparation. The government should make sure to give them the best preparation anyone could imagine on the front end, before they ever set foot in a classroom. Therefore, Arunachal Pradesh should create or bring top- performing teacher-preparation programs from the rest of the country. There are several organisations such as Teach for India (TFI) or India School Leadership Institute (ISLI) that offers excellent training to teachers with an aim to produce highly effective teachers. "Identifying and learning from top-performing teacher-preparation programs is an important strategy to further the teaching profession in the state. It is critically important to analyze regularly the effectiveness of our teacher-preparation pathways, and that analysis should include an objective and rigorous examination of the average learning gains of students. Only if the teachers are effective and trained, we can expect change in the education scenarios.

Good sense triumphs on the GST Eleven years after it was first mooted in Parliament, the Rajya Sabha has finally adopted a goods and services tax. After the mere formality of its passage in the Lok Sabha for an approval of the amendments made, it will have to be considered and approved by a majority of State Assemblies before it can be sent to the President for assent. For now, Parliament’s stamp is historic as the proposed tax will alter the powers of taxation that States enjoyed under the Constitution and usher in a uniform consumption-based tax structure across the land for almost all goods and services. Only potable alcohol is proposed to be excluded from the GST’s ambit, according to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, with petroleum products set to be pegged at a zero per cent rate till such time as the proposed GST Council reaches an agreement with the States and the Centre on an acceptable framework for taxation. That the two main players — the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress — were able to narrow their differences restores a degree of faith in the capacity of the political class to put the nation above petty self-serving interests. While it is a pity that consensus took so long to forge, both parties deserve a measure of credit for seeing the legislation through. The BJP for being accommodative in the face of reservations about specific provisions, which was accompanied by a much-needed change in tack in dealing with the Opposition. And the Congress, which became increasingly isolated on the issue and risked appearing cussedly obstructionist, for overcoming its desire to pay the BJP back in its own coin. The GST will usher in a nationwide common market and subsume a multiplicity of Central and State taxes; but this is still some time and several smaller challenges away. Indeed, the Centre, the States, the yet-to-be-created GST Council and the vendor tasked with creating the IT backbone for the administration of the new tax regime have a clear challenge if they are to meet the April 1, 2017 deadline. Among the tasks ahead is the drafting of the specific Central and State GST laws that will again need to be passed in Parliament and State legislatures. Vital decisions, such as the setting of a proposed revenue-neutral standard rate, remain; these can have far-reaching cost and price implications for producers and consumers. These would also have revenue ramifications for governments. And while the Centre may be tempted to opt to speed up matters by moving the GST legislations as Money Bills to bypass any debate over specific provisions in the Rajya Sabha, it would be welladvised to avoid that path to see that the spirit of hard-won consensus is not frittered away in another round of political one-upmanship.

Why a Bollywood film has been accused of distorting history A star-studded Bollywood epic based on life in Indus Valley, home to one of the world's first large civilisations, has kicked up a storm over its depiction of history, says Sudha G Tilak.

M

ohenjo Daro, writ ten and directed by well-known filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar, has met with a tepid response at the box office and irked historians and Indologists over its misrepresentation of the period. Gowarikar had earlier made the smash hit Jodhaa Akbar (2008), a fictitious romance between the 16th Century Mughal Emperor Akbar and a Hindu princess, Jodhaa.

The ancient city that's crumbling away His new adventure-romance film is set in the Indus Valley civilisation, which began nearly 5,000 years ago in an area which is now in Pakistan and northern India. The biggest cities here were Harappa and Mohenjo Daro, where some 80,000 people are believed to have lived.

Historical fiction Mohenjo Daro - or Mound of the Dead - was one of the world's earliest major urban settlements. It is also one of the world's largest archaeological excavation sites, located in modern day Sindh province in Pakistan. Gowariker's film is set in 2016 BC. The hero, Sarman played by Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, is a farmer of indigo textiles. The heroine, played by south Indian actress Puja Hegde, is a priest's daughter.

The hero dances and serenades the heroine who wears plumes in her headgear. Wild horses are tamed at the speed of a rodeo show. Characters speak a strangely accented Hindi. An evil king played by Kabir Bedi, throws the hero into a Roman coliseum-like arena in a gladiatorial fight. (Historians say there is no evidence of such practices.) Critics found the actors looked, "more like Aryans" than the dark skinned ProtoAustraloids who possibly inhabited the ancient city. The film's epic climax is a devastating flood that submerges the city, with the hero valiantly saving the citizens with a Noah's Ark trick to take them to safety across the swollen river. (Theories about the city's decline include devastating floods in the Indus Valley, droughts, or an Aryan invasion that led to the inhabitants abandoning the city for the Ganges plains.) All this has not gone down well with critics and historians alike. "Creating fiction in an authentic historical setting is what historical fiction is about, but Bollywood seems to throw the authentic setting to the winds in favour of a better story," says Diptakirti Chaudhuri, author of Bolly Book, The Big Book of Hindi Movie Trivia.

link it to a particular historical episode or era at all?"

'Sick Orientalism'

Mr Chaudhuri says the film "had the additional disadvantage of being released in an era of hyperpromotions and people knew the makers had messed up many aspects of accepted history right from the time the first trailer came out". He's right. Social media began criticising the glamourised version of an ancient historical city even as the film's trailer was released.

"And the liberties while acceptable under the guise of fiction - often make one wonder why

Ruchika Sharma, a student of archaeology in Delhi, tweeted that the

heroine's glamorous costumes were nothing but "sick Orientalism" and condemned "Bollywood depicting tribal societies in stereotypical terms with feathers in their hair and paint on their faces". Film critic Anupama Chopra called the film "a mess" and an "unintentional comedy". The New York Times said Mohenjo Daro "isn't really interested in how the city worked, or in its ancient bells and whistles".

'Suspend disbelief' Now Mohenjo Daro's makers and cast have de-

fended the film as historical fiction. They claim that the film is a fictitious tale of people of a bygone time. "Hindi cinema is entertainment cinema not realist cinema", says Rachel Dwyer, a professor of Indian Cultures and Cinema of London University's School of Oriental and African Studies. In his defence, Gowarikar told an interviewer to "suspend disbelief" while watching the film and ignore the history and authenticity part of the film. He also said he had

CM promotes Nagaland at Pangkor Dialogue Rock On 2 poster relives the 'Magik'; Dimapur, Sep7:Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang who is in Malaysia to attend the 4th Edition of the Pangkor Dialogue at Ipoh city of Perak, took the opportunity to promote Nagaland, the people and the historic turn of events that took place in the state. Drawing attention of hundreds of delegates from across the world, CMO media cell in a press note said, Zeliang in his speech on Tuesday shared his experiences and knowledge about the State, which he said some could find beneficial. He spoke of the Battle of Kohima, considered as the greatest battle fought by the allied forces during the WW-II. He enlightened the gathering with the words inscribed in the monolith erected in honour of the valiant dead: "When you go home tell them of us, and say for your tomorrow we gave our today." Speaking of the epitaph, Zeliang urged upon all to correlate the words while considering the general principles of sustainable development. "The importance of maintaining and improving the quality of life and at the same time ensuring that decisions made today, take into consideration social, economic, and environmental consequences for the future," he said. This fundamentally entails sacrifices on the part of the present generation so that the future societies can continue to live and survive,

CM promotes Nagaland at Pangkor Dialogue Zeliang said. "Sustainable development, therefore, also means containing our needs that very often turns into greed", Zeliang added. Sharing with the leaders the political realities in Nagaland, Zeliang pointed out that the traditional Naga way of life, like many societies of the South East Asian nations, did not quite get along well with Western concept of Parliamentary democracy. He also stated that the concept of Universal Adult franchise was something new to the Naga people resulting in glaring material corruption and faulty electoral practices in the State. He went on to laud the 'Clean Election Campaign' launched by the Church in its attempt to cleanse the malpractice in the electioneering process. Zeliang went on to share the positive and novel develop-

ments in the State such as Communitisation of public services such as Education, Health services, electricity etc. which he said were being managed by the villagers themselves. In recognition, Zeliang told the gathering that the United Nations awarded Nagaland for instituting such a reform. He also highlighted issues such as environmental degradation and climate change that has adversely affected Nagaland in the recent past in the form of drought-like situation, damaging hailstones and cyclones in various parts of the State. In order to tackle the global concern, Zeliang appealed to world leaders "to think together, to share the solutions and to further help each other in reducing the risks through adaptation as well as mitigation strategies in the better interests of our survival."

On conservation, Zeliang boasted of how communities which once hunted migratory Amur Falcons in hundreds of thousands, were now protectors and have made Nagaland a safe haven for the birds earning the distinction of being called in conservation circles as "Amur Falcon Capital of the World"! Zeliang expressed his envy of the Malaysian people for successfully preserving the famed Hornbill birds, which is also Malaysia's National Bird, and which Nagas associate with valour and honour. As discussions on environment, sustainable development and governance continue Zeliang said the need of the hour was "cooperation and sharing for our mutual existence". He also stressed on the need is to re-skill the public servants and policy makers at all levels on issues of governance and environment. "This can be done through appropriate institutions with professionally designed trainings programs that will add value to their work and thereby, enhance governance at their respective levels," he added. With the declaration of 'Act East Policy', Zeliang said he was confident that the Government of India, under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi would agree to such proposals that would benefit India and the East as partners for economic growth and well-being.

Ceasefire, an opportunity to move forward: Rev. Keyho Kohima, Sep 7 : Ceasefire was never to "make us comfortable" but an opportunity to move forward, said the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) general secretary, Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho at the 52nd anniversary commemoration of IndoNaga Ceasefire Day here. He said that ceasefire was not only to stop the hostility between two warring enemies and "save us" from the terror of hunting each other, but to "give us hope" to stand on an equal footing with the force, which "sought to destroy us", and "give us a platform to dialogue and negotiate for our rights. " The programme, organized by NBCC, was held at Chedema peace camp to commemorate the ceasefire that was signed between the Government of India and the Federal Government of Nagaland on September 6, 1964 with the intervention of NBCC. Rev. Keyho appreciated and thanked those who took the pain and put effort to sign the ceasefire agreement, which came at a time when Nagaland was caught up in a warlike situation. He said Nagas in general suffered untold miseries, their homes were burnt down to ashes and the common and the innocent citizens, regardless of who they were, become prime suspects and suffered torturous treatment and abuse, and the Naga national workers were hunted like animals in and out of the jungles. NBCC general secretary recalled that in such a situation, the ceasefire came as an interim re-

lief for the Nagas. However, he said ceasefire was not final in itself. Rev. Keyho said it was not an achievement but a springboard upon which greater things were to happen though it was a relief to end hostility, reckless operations and killings of the innocents in "our land". "It was neither an end, nor a final achievement," he said.

the atmosphere of ceasefire. Recollecting the events leading to this day, he asserted that Nagas must not blame "our counterpart" for everything that has not been but to admit "our mistake of stubbornness, mistake of pride, mistake of self justification, mistake of holier than thou and above all mistake of lording over all."

Reverend lamented that today the end seemed to have been buried deep inside "our selfishness" and in the ever luring temptation to be comfortable and maintain the status quo. He further said the ceasefire seemed to have "seized our right to self determination based on our historical and political rights." Therefore, Rev.Keyho told the gathering "though we honour this day what value is there if our political will for self determination is made to die a natural death." Reverend called for revisiting the glory of those days where nationalism reigned supreme without arms, without muscle power in

He said this has been the problem and mistake not only of one particular political group but all the political groups that existed today. He called for speaking out in unison to India to listen to "our rights and aspiration" and cited the words of J. P. Narayan that "sovereignty of Nagaland in imminently practicable and negotiable" but that "negotiable" can turn into "possible" if Nagas unite. Rev. Keyho also asserted that Nagas cannot pretend that things were alright with them when it was not. "We cannot expect angels to come and fix things right for us but we must act and begin to mend the broken relationship and

it must begin with someone, somewhere and somehow," he said. He said "we must seek God and live" and stop playing with God and jeopardising the future of "our younger generations and the generations to come." FGN representative, I. Temjen Longkumer, narrated the events that lead to the signing of Ceasefire Agreement. He said this Peace Day celebration was a reminder of wartime days lest the younger generation forget to give the life to their roots. Longkumer said it was also to "caution us" about what a war could bring to a country in the absence of peaceful means. The programme was led by NBCC school coordinator Rev. Dr. Mechiehol Savi, bible reading and prayer by NBCC education and communication secretary, Dr. Botoholi, and special song presented by NBCC staff. Programme was attended by NNC rank and file, public, church leaders, NBCC officials and others.

Shraddha Kapoor, Shashank Arora join Farhan Akhtar's band

Shillong, Sep 7:It has been eight years since the release of Farhan Akhtar-starrer Rock On!! and fans have eagerly waited to watch the Magik band perform again. The wait seems to be coming to an end now with the makers releasing the first poster of the film's sequelRock On!! 2. Akhtar shared the poster with his fans on Twitter with the hashtag "ReliveTheMagik". The poster gives out all the right vibes exuding the energy and enthusiasm that the film represents. The name of the film on the poster only says Rock On, and doesn't mention that it is the sequel. This could probably mean that the makers might change the film's title at a later point. The tag line on the poster says, 'every generation finds its voice'. It has also given us heads up about the cast. The sequel will see the

Quality education missing in state: Yitachu

Narrow escape for Assam Rifles patrol in Manipur

Dimapur, Sep 7:Minister of School Education & SCERT Yitachu paid glowing tributes to teachers who he acknowledged as having made contributions for society and reiterated that they deserved to be "saluted and honoured" for their sacrifices. Yitachu said this while speaking as chief guest at the State Level Teachers' Day function held at the NBCC Convention Hall here Monday. The minister also acknowledged that quality and value-based education was largely lacking in Nagaland despite the state boasting of having over 80% literacy rate. In order to meet the challenges posed on the state's education system, the minister suggested that imparting quality education should start from the primary education level as it was a crucial stage. He said half the effort would be achieved if providing quality education began from this level . He said that unless there was a fear of God, irrespective of whatever religion, nothing good can come. Yitachu urged upon teachers to rededicate themselves to the task of fulfilling their roles so as to serve the state and to help it move forward.

Kohima, Sep7:It was a narrow escape for a patrol of 12 Assam Rifles in Manipur's border district of Chandel when insurgents tried to ambush them using a remote-controlled bomb on Sunday, officials said. Bomb experts from Imphal later rushed there and defused the bomb. Intelligence sources told IANS that at 2 p.m., the patrolling personnel discerned that a bomb was buried at the side of the village road leading to Kwatha Khnnuou, a little distance away from the Trans-Asian highway No. 1.

The minister's speech largely dealt with the problems in the education system under the state government where some schools recorded nil in the NBSE examinations. He however noted that due to efforts of teachers stories some schools with nil-result were converted to success stories. He attributed some of the problems on lack of promotional avenues as some teachers retired without promotion after 25 to 30 years service. He also lamented that many teachers under CSS had to undergo months without salaries. Some primary teachers in remote areas were paid meagre monthly salary of Rs.6000 and graduate teachers with Rs.8000, he said. On shortage of science and maths teachers, the minister attributed some to conversion of these posts causing shortages but expressed the hope that recent recruitment drive for RMSA teachers would help solve the problem. Commissioner & Secretary School Education F.P.Solo in his speech, said quality education could only be imparted by well trained and qualified teachers. He said nearly 65% of government school teachers and 70% of private school teachers

were still to be trained. Solo said the DoSE has come up with a policy for training the untrained government teachers. Once the policy is implemented, Solo said untrained teachers will not get promotion and their increments will also be stopped after five years. He also urged private schools to recruit only trained teachers and also encourage untrained teachers to get trained. General secretary All Nagaland Private School Assoociation (ANPSA), NiniSekhose in her speech, said more than 80% of students in Nagaland are from private school and that continuous in-house training was an indispensable component of every private school. Other highlights included welcome address by Additional Director, School Education, WonthungoTsopoe and presentation of special songs and a life sketch of late Dr. S. Radhakhrishnan by Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School Kohima and Honouring of Teachers by T.M. Government Higher Secondary School Kohima. Vote of thanks was proposed by General Secretary ANSTA, VisatoKoso. Altogether 24 teachers from across the state were honoured for the year 2016.

AVC cry foul over land compensation issue for Dimapur airport extension Dimapur, Sep 7:AVC cry foul over land compensation issue for Dimapur airport extension DIMAPUR, SEP 6 (NPN) Exposing the dubious way in which the state government and Airports Authority of India (AAI) reneged on the rate of land compensation to landowners of Aoyimti village for extension of the Dimapur airport Aoyimti Village Council (AVC) in a letter addressed to DC Dimapur dated August 16,2016 disclosed that its numerous appeals for withdrawal of the November 28,2009 letter before negotiations could restart for land deal, were simply ignored. AVC chairman T. Lima Pongen in a statement revealed that the villagers had quoted Rs.600 per sq.feet as compensation but that the land owners finally agreed to the proposal of the authorities for Rs.450 per sq. feet and which was conveyed vide their letter dated October 16,2009. However, AVC claimed, that without providing any opportunity to the village, the

joint meeting of the AAI with state chief secretary in presence of the chief minister and parliamentary secretary in -charge transport, through a letter dated November 28,2009 said it was decided that the rate of Rs.450 per sq feet was "too exorbitant" and also cited that presence of National Highway 39 in front of the airport and also petrol pumps near the airport hindered scope for extension of the airport. AVC said the DC has in a letter dated April 5,2016 wrote about the proposed extension of the airport and to which it wrote a letter dated April 14,2016 for revocation of the November 28,2009 letter. Thereafter, AVC delegation met with the DC Dimapur on June 23,2016 to renew appeal for withdrawal of the November 28,2009 letter but discovered that the letter dated April 14,2016 addressed to the DC Dimapur had never been endorsed to him by his subordinates. The AVC had responded to the letter issued by the Revenue Officer dated June

23,2016 to the AVC to initiate dialogue with landowners. However, but said it could not do so unless the November 28,2009 decision was revoked first. AVC then met with DC Dimapur on July 11,2016 to press for revocation of above letter(Nov.2009) after which the DC agreed to furnish minutes of the November 28,2009 meeting of the SLAA but that the meeting minutes could not be traced in office. As per advice of the DC Dimapur, the AVC convened a general meeting on August 6,2016 wherein it reaffirmed to demand revocation of the November 28,2009 letter of the SLAA. AVC maintained it should not be treated as a stumbling block to airport extension in view of the above but that the authority involved should be blamed for not responding to numerous appeals. It also pointed out that NH 39 and petrol pumps in the vicinity existed long before the present airport became operational and extension planned.

Police said that there might have been some other bombs buried along the road or hung from the tree branches. With the arrival of the additional Assam Rifles personnel, a search operation was launched in the nearby areas. However, no suspects were detected. A police officer told IANS that the insurgents must have slipped away towards the no man's land. There have been some sensational ambushes against the security forces claiming several lives. Attacking security peronnel along the highway linking Manipur to Myanmar in this district have been a recurring feature. To check the free movement of the insurgents along the international border, the construction of a 10 km long border fence was started at Moreh. However it was suspended when it was established that the fence was being constructed deep inside Manipur. While over 10 villages would be affected, one village in the state's Ukhrul district, namely Choro Khunnou would entirely go to Myanmar. Police have registered a case. There has been no claim from any insurgent group of the bomb planting.

You can use them in salads, desserts, smoothies, milkshakes and even salsa. They're good for the stomach. The thought of healthy eating probably runs through your mind a dozen times a day. It makes you seriously question that grilled cheese sandwich or the three tier chocolate and butterscotch cake that you conveniently devoured while watching your diet plan fly right out of the window. Most of us lead lives where we've been inconspicuously sucked into a food routine and are desperately trying to claw our way out

of it. Amidst a number of lifestyle problems to deal with, we tend to forget or ignore granny's simple remedy of eating fresh, seasonal produce. What's so special about eating foods that are in season? They've got twice as much flavour, that extra crunch and are extremely high on vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients. Summer bearings include a lot of green vegetables, melons, peaches, corn, mangoes and other fresh and fragrant herbs. Local markets are at their best during summer, when fruits are abundant, and vegetables are as fresh as can be. Consuming foods that are not in season may come with a risk of chemicals and preservatives that are applied to fruits and veggies to keep them fresh.

Salad leaves Amaranth leaves, rocket leaves, basil and other summer herbs should be tossed in a salad bowl and topped off with a yogurt dressing to make a great summer salad. They create a power house of nutrition and are a great way to lose weight. Bung in fruits, nuts, white meat, peppers, mint or coriander leaves to make a light and lovely meal.

What to Drink to beat the heat? Watermelon Juice: Watermelon is approximately 90 per cent water, so it's undoubtedly the best way to keep you hydrated. "Eating watermelon can help protect skin from oxidative stress that contributes to the aging process, clear up acne and brighten a dull complexion Aam Pana - Two glasses of aam pana can help with digestion, constipation and chronic stomach problems like Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Make it at home to ensure the use of recommended quantities of sugar and salt. Mint water with lemon: One glass of strained mint water with two drops of lemon works wonders. It acts as a liver cleanser, boosts your metabolism and helps those with a low appetite. Barley Water: Have two glasses a day and in case you find it bland, add a drop of lemon or honey for taste. Since barley water is rich in fiber, it prevents constipation and also helps in controlling your appetite.

Earlier last year, the Supreme Court of India had thrown its weight behind live in relationships - a practice that is often frowned upon because of what could perhaps be called miscomprehended notion amongst a large chunk of our population about morality and ethical values. On May 22, 2013, the apex court had observed that if a man and a woman in love decide to live together as a couple, it is well within their right to life and by no means can be deemed a "criminal offence". Understandably the verdict must not have go down well with all Indians - especially considering how there are still many who genuinely believe that premarital relationship between a man and a woman is nothing but a sin! However, despite its inevitable failure to change such mindset amongst a sizable chunk of the population, the SC's ruling was rather a significant one because it provided couples living in such arrangement with the much needed protection of the law of the land.

"If two people, man and woman, want to live together, who can oppose them? What is the offence they commit here? This happens because of the cultural exchange between people," a special three-judge bench of chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan, justices Deepak Verma and B.S. Chauhan observed. The court delivered this landmark judgment while hearing a petition filed by actress Khusboo to quash more than 20 FIRs filed against her by a number of Tamil forums and activist groups. Apparently, the South Indian cine star was brought amidst such legal controversies only because she uttered a few sentences in favor of live in relationships half-a-decade back. Apparently, Khusboo commented during an interview that there was nothing wrong with "sex before marriage", provided girls took adequate protection against uncalled for pregnancy andsexually transmitted diseases (STD). Her detractors aggressively retorted by arguing that it was "offensive" and a source of "pub-

Supreme Court's Efforts to Mitigate the Stigma Associated With Live In Relationship lic nuisance" to ask males not to expect virginity from the women they would marry. However, their argument failed to convince India's highest judicial forum. "If living together is an offence, then the first complaint should be filed against the Supreme Court, because we have permitted living together," the court said in a rather stern manner. The bench was referring to a 2006 judgment

by the apex court that asked the police and administration across the country to safeguard runway couples from being harassed or intimated. The court even went a step further by directing the police to initiate action against anyone who resort to violence against such couples. "It is part of right to life to go away with someone you love," the bench remarked. (Courtesy: Vakilnol.com)

Simple Homemade Remedies to Protect Your Skin from Summer Tan Do you think this summer will eat away your healthy glowing skin? Well, looking at the scorching sun, and burning flames, I think this is the right time to protect your skin from tan and darkness. Skin care in summer calls for special attention because during the summer season the skin natural oils start flowing freely which makes the skin appear dull, oily and blemished. In addition, the increased susceptibility to the UV rays of the sun not only results in skin tanning, but also increases the problems of dark patches and wrinkles. Natural remedies are the best way to remove sunburn and skin tan. Many people go out on summer vacations without proper protection. Doing this can harm your skin, as it is the most sensitive part of your body. Tanning is one of the major problems during summer, and most people try to find

When I asked him why he thought that was, he replied that he saw nothing unusual - in his opinion computer science was simply a subject "for boys". This, and a recent visit to a London co-educational and a girls' school on the same day, showed me that many of my assumptions about what was good for girls had been utterly wrong. Far from being places of equal opportunity and preparation for the real world, even the best coeducational schools do not celebrate girls' achievements. Worse, girls continually struggle to get their voices heard amongst rowdy cajoling boys. The girls' school I visited, by comparison, was doing a much better job of overcoming gender stereotypes associated with STEM subjects. It was a temple to female achievement and had hall-

women have been relatively powerless and unimportant. It's hardly surprising that girls leave education with the notion that high achievement is not for them. One might argue that the girls-only school is teaching a biased version of history by over-emphasising women's contributions, but the reality is that history has created its own gender-bias. The last thing a self-conscious 13 year old girl needs is a biased view of the world, we need to celebrate the few female heroes that already exist, and uncover the ones that history has glossed over. I cannot help thinking of that lone girl in my nephew's computer science class. I imagine she must be brave and determined to study computing. It cannot be easy being the only girl in class. Lots of girls would like to do what she has chosen, but social pressure and competition with boys means that very few girls have the courage to follow

their calling, especially if they are interested in 'geeky' subjects. The girls-school students are simply better off than her in one regard: they are free to choose to study what they want without anybody compelling them to conform to traditional roles. There are no boys (like my nephew) to innocently inform her that she's in the wrong classroom. It seems rather ironic that the easiest way to eliminate this gender bias from education is to segregate our children. But that's just a quick-fix - we need to work much harder to eliminate this kind of bias and celebrate female heroes within our co-educational schools. Girls will only be able to get a fair chance in life when the boys they study alongside see them as equals, and we're not there yet. with fresh water after taking a swim in the pool. Just like winter, it is important to use a moisturizer in summer also, but it should be a water-based moisturizer that effectively tones and moisturizes the skin without making it too oily. It is important to keep the skin of the face fresh and clean by washing it with cold water 3 to 4 times a day, face cleansers should not be used more than twice per day. Toning the face with a soothing herbal toner is a natural treatment for oily skin that helps in reducing excess oil, sebum and dirt from the skin surface. It is best to avoid going out in the sun as much as possible. You should try to avoid the sun during 11 A.M to 4 P.M because the sun rays are the harshest at this time.

Don't apply perfume on your skin while out in the sun because the psoralen present in perfumes, especially citrus perfumes can stain your skin permanently when the react with the sun rays. In a hurry to apply the sunscreen don't skip your lip protection and eye creams because the skin around your eyes and lips are really delicate that is more susceptible to tan and wrinkles. In case you forget to apply sunscreen while going out in the sun, you can make up for the damage caused by applying natural aloe vera gel or cool green tea on your face to soothe the burnt skin. Warm showers during the summer season can further dry out your skin ans make it susceptible to tanning. So, opt for cool show-

ers in order to keep the skin fresh and hydrated. Wear mineral makeup during summer because it is lighter than the cream based ones which allow the skin to breathe and lasts longer in sweating conditions. Usage of sunglasses, hats and other accessories minimizes the UV radiations from reaching your body. Opt for a widebrimmed hat instead of caps because it provides complete protection to your entire face. When it comes to skin care, a lot depends on the right foods. Eat skinfriendly foods such as vegetables and fruits in the form of salads, steamed veggies, juices and smoothies in order to load up on antioxidants and flavonoids and reduce the intake of sugar, refined foods and processed foods.

Pen is mightier than the sword. Even today, the younger generation is attracted to journalism. Everyday, there are several events happening across the world — political , cultural, religious, educational, social and natural events, etc. We come to know about these events sitting in our houses. How is that possible? Through mass communication, providing information to a large crowd at the same time. But, for this, someone has to collect the information as well as present it. This is the main aim of journalism. Journalism includes investigating, analysing and reporting local as well as world events, trends, current affairs, and so on.

QUALIFICATION Journalism courses are offered at graduation and postgraduation levels. After completion in a related graduation field, one may complete a Master's in journalism or mass communication.

Powerful Career Advice That Every College Student Needs To Know Everyone turns into a Yes-man to get a job after college. That is why many people go through their careers hating their job or jumping off from one company to another. People go to college to get a degree and to pursue their passion and interest. Unfortunately, once they step outside the university they make choices different from the things that they want to be. They seem to become oblivious of their own goals.

Life in the real world is different from being a student. Challenges are inevitable as well as failures. However, if you focus on your strengths and use your weaknesses to improve yourself, nothing is impossible to a determined person.

College doesn’t only prepare you for a job rather it’s a preparation for life. A college diploma will open doors of opportunities. It will show you how to get there. But remember, your destination — your future success — are yours to choose.

You are young. It’s okay to make mistakes. If you get into a wrong career path, or you meet a bad boss, or you’re dissatisfied with your job, it’s okay that’s normal. In the span of your career journey, you will surely make mistakes and fail many times. You’re still inexperienced so enjoy exploring life. Fix your mistakes and learn from them, then move forward- That’s the joy of learning.

Whether you’ve tailored a long-term plan or you see new possibilities for your future career, these powerful pieces of career advice will empower you as you encounter difficulties in facing reality.

skills needed for your job application. Of course, you can set your eyes towards your goal but do not forget everything you’ve learned and experienced while you’re on your way there.

While you’re young, have a clear vision of your future. Even though you’re still clueless with your destination just think of what you wanted to become. Fill your mind with positive thoughts, dreams, and beliefs so that it would manifest into your life. Stop worrying, stop complaining. Do not let the idea of “what if’s” corrupt your dreams. You might not control everything that may happen to you but you have a choice to take it or leave it behind.

Successful people didn’t wait for opportunities to knock on their doors. They created it that’s why they’re reaping what they have sown. Apply this truth to your life and you’ll definitely accomplish everything on your own. “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”- Jim Ryun Staying consistently motivated in reaching your goals will eventually become your habit. You just have to understand perfectly the purpose of failure in your life in order to realize that it is something you need to succeed. Giving up will stop you from achieving greatness and making a difference. So instead of thinking about quitting, why not take it as an opportunity to make things way better?

He is scheduled to meet NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam tomorrow at 11:30 am tomorrow. "The Commission has taken a note in the larger interest because we feel that as a spokesperson of a party, that governs Delhi and a party whose members have been accused of many incidents of violence against women, should not be writing a blog like this which reeks of patriarchy and misogyny." she said. Ashutosh's column elaborates on how neither the sexual habits nor romantic relationships of Indian politicians have historically not been a cause of public concern or judgement. He lists the examples of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Congress and the BJP say that Ashutosh has insulted Mahatma Gandhi by referring to him in the same breath as a man who is now accused of rape. In his blog, Ashutosh refers to Gandhiji's close ties with Sarla Chaudhary. (PTI)

New Delhi, Sep 7: He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi waived loans to the tune of Rs 1.10 lakh crore of "big industrialists and rich people" in the past two years while he forgot the plight of farmers who are carrying the burden of the entire country. "In the past two years, Narendra Modi has waived loans of Rs 1.10 lakh crore. Not of small farmers but of big industrialists and rich people. If Modiji wants to waive loans of the rich, it is his decision. He is the Prime Minister and he can do so. We are not against it.

He said there are reports from various states that farmers are committing suicide due to scarcity of water, issues of fertiliser, loans, MSP and power. There is no burden on big industrialists, but the farmer is carrying the burden of the entire country on his shoulders. That is why we started this yatra," he said.

Jodhpur, Sep 7: An electrician of a hotel has been arrested for allegedly making explicit sexual overtures towards a foreign tourist in her room. The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday night when he was sent to the room for fixing some electrical problem. According to the SHO (Ratanada) Indra Singh, a Spanish female tourist had come to Jodhpur on September 5 and was staying in the hotel Park Plaza. "On Tuesday late night, she encountered some electrical problem in her room, due to which the lights of her room went out. She intimated the reception and an electrician Chhotelal, who lives in hotel campus itself, was sent to rectify the problem," said Singh. In her complaint, she has alleged that after fixing the

problem, Chhotelal suddenly turned towards her, dropped his pant and offered her to have intercourse. When she resisted, he tried to grab her, the complaint says. The woman scolded him and threatened to raise an alarm, after which he fled from the room, the complaint adds. In the morning, she told her local guide about the incident and both of them complained to the hotel manager, who tendered an apology and took both of them to the police to register a complaint against the electrician, the SHO said. "We registered the case under section 354(A) of IPC on her complaint, recorded her statements and arrested Chhotelal after preliminary interrogation," Singh said

New Delhi: Appointment of nearly 25 new judges to various high courts is likely to be cleared by this weekend, days before the issue of delay in execution of collegium's recommendations comes up for hearing in the Supreme Court. Sources said nearly 25 fresh appointments to at least six high courts are based on the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium made in AprilMay. There are nearly 74 recommendations under process at the government's end. Most of the recommendations are likely to fructify into appointments by the end of September, barring "a few" cases where the executive and the judiciary have "difference of opinion," they said. Usually, the process of appointing judges takes between 60 to 75 days. "The fresh appointments were in the pipeline and should not be linked to the next date of hearing next week," a sourc insisted. The fresh appointments are to be made to the Allahabad, Calcutta, Delhi, Rajasthan and the Bombay high courts among others. The friendship between India and Japan has a long history rooted in spiritual affinity and strong cultural and civilizational ties. Over the years, the two co untries have built upon these values and created a partnership based on both principle and pragmatism. Bilateral ties have been singularly free of any kind of dispute, ideological, cultural or territorial. The relationship is unique and one of mutual respect manifested in generous gestures and sentiments, and of standing by each other at times of need. The beginning of the 21st century witnessed a dramatic transformation in bilateral ties. The global partnership formed

the foundation for the strengthening ties in diverse fields, including identifying strategic convergences. Economic relations between India and Japan have vast potential for growth, given the obvious complementarities that exist between the two Asian economies. Japan's interest in India is increasing due to variety of reasons including India's huge and growing market and its resources, especially the human resources. The signing of the historic India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and its implementation from August 2011 is expected to further accelerate growth of trade, economic and commercial relations between the two countries. As per UN resolution, Pak will have to withdraw Army from PoK: Former Cabinet Secy New Delhi, Sep 7: As India and Pakistan's tug-of-war on Kashmir refuses to bite the dust, Former Special Secretary of Cabinet Secretariat Tilak Devasher in an interview with ANI gave some eloquent insights on the same, on Pakistan's stand on terrorism, Pakistan and China's relationship and much more. Devasher also talked about the recent statement of Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Sharif's statement that the solution to Kashmir is the implementation of the UN resolution. He said that it was less of an Army chief speech but more of a President or PM's. He further took a swipe at the UN resolution being referred by saying, 'I am not sure how many people in Pakistan have read what the UN resolution actually says'. Devasher said that there is huge deterioration in relations between US and Pakistan. The terrorism being aided under the wings of

Washington, Sep 7: Asserting that Washington has been very clear that it wants to see accountability and justice in the case of the 26/ 11 Mumbai terror attack, the United States said it is making its concerns clear that Pakistan needs to go after all the terrorist groups operating or seeking safe haven on their soil. Speaking at the daily press briefing, the US State Department Deputy Spokesperson, Mark C. Toner said that Washington has long encouraged and pushed for greater counterterrorism cooperation which includes the sharing of intelligence between India and Pakistan in the Mumbai terror attack. "We've been very clear that we want to see accountability and justice in the case of the Mumbai attacks, and as you noted, there were American citizens who lost their lives in that - those terrible attacks. We've long encouraged and pushed for greater counterterrorism cooperation, and that includes the sharing of intelligence between India and Pakistan in that regard," Toner said.

Hillary Clinton not provided Blackberry by State Dept: Official Washington, Sep 7: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was not provided with a State Department Blackberry during her tenure as the Secretary of State in the first term of the Obama administration, a senior US official has said. The clarification from the State Department comes days after the FBI in an investigation report on Clinton's email scandal said that she used as many as 13 different devices during her tenure as the Secretary of State.

"I can't really speak to how many devices she may or may not have had in her possession. What I would say is - and we've said this before is that she never had or possessed or was provided with a State Department BlackBerry," Toner said when asked about the FBI's report in this regard. "All we can say is that she was never provided with a State Department Blackberry. But of course, we always take these kinds of reports seriously. (PTI)

Toner further emphasized that the U.S. has made its concerns clear that Pakistan needs to go after all the terrorist groups operating in the country over the terrorist attacks, which includes 26/11. "We want to see full accountability for these terrible attacks. We're working with Pakistan, we're making our concerns clear that they need to go after all the ter-

rorist groups that are operating or seeking safe haven on their soil. And that's been our clear objective for a long time now. We've seen progress, but we need to see more," he added. On being asked on the former U.S. ambassador to the UN and Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad recent statement that the U.S. should consider taking some kind of sanctions

against Pakistan for not taking enough action against these terrorist network , Toner said, "I don't think we're even at that point. I mean, we continue to have, as I said, conversations with the highest level of the Government of Pakistan. And our basic point in all of these conversations is that Pakistan must target all militant groups, including those that target Pakistan's neigh-

crimes in the region and supporting terrorism in fact shed the blood of Muslims in Iraq, Syria and Yemen." Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia were already at rock bottom before the regional rivals started trading barbs this week ahead of the start of the annual hajj pilgrimage on Saturday.

"I just want to start by referencing something that Donald Trump told ABC News. He said that the American people don't care about his tax returns. In fact, he has also said it is none of our business. I just think he is dead wrong. "The reason presidential candidates, going back decades, have released their tax returns is because the American people want to know," Clinton told reporters travelling with her on the campaign plane on Tuesday. "If they are going to entrust a president with the management of our country's finances, they want to know, how did this person handle his or her own finances, which is one of the reasons why we've released 40 years of tax returns," she said. "It's especially important given what we are discovering, not from Trump himself, but from the kind of

Washington, Sep 7: With the race to the White House intensifying, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her Republican rival Donald Trump have accused each other of trying to "hide something" from the public. While Clinton charged Trump with not releasing his tax returns as he had to "hide something" from the people, the Republican nominee accused the former secretary of state of the same over the emails deleted by her during her tenure as the top American diplomat. Clinton, 68, indicated she will make Trump's tax returns an election issue, saying the reality TV star is "dead wrong" if he thinks it is none of the American people's business as before entrusting a president with the country's finances they would want to know how the person handled personal finances.

"When is she going to release her emails? Let her release her emails and I'll release my tax returns immediately," he told Fox News last night. Clinton in the past had said that she deleted some 30,000 emails which were personal related to things like yoga and marriage planning. Trump says he does not believe this and has been seeking to find out those emails. Clinton "probably knows how to find them", he said. (PTI)

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on Muslims to punish saudi crimes. Iran, Sep 7: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called Wednesday on the Muslim world to unite and punish the Saudi government for its handling of the hajj pilgrimage and wider actions in the region. "Regional countries and the world of Islam should take coordinated actions to resolve problems and punish the Saudi govern-

bors, and eliminate all safe havens." He added that the U.S. has received response from Pakistan that they have assured to do the same. "We have been encouraged by some of the steps they've taken, some of their recent counterterrorism operations along the border of the Afghan - Afghanistan. And we're going to continue to work with them to increase those efforts and apply more pressure on these groups," he added. India has long asked Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to justice but Islamabad has claimed that the evidence provided by New Delhi is not sufficient. Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed, who orchestrated the November 2008, Mumbai terror attack in which 166 people were killed is based in Pakistan. Iranians have been blocked from joining the hajj for the first time in almost 30 years after talks on security and logistics fell apart in May. Indonesia to deport Australian witness in Jessica Wongso cyanide murder case Indonesia, Sep 7 : Forensic pathologist Dr Beng Beng Ong from the University of Queensland was the first witness for the defence in Jakarta's most notorious murder case. Australian resident Jessica Wongso, 27, is accused of murdering her friend Mirna Salihin in January by putting cyanide in her coffee. But Dr Ong told the court that cyanide was not the cause of Ms Salihin's death. Prosecutors had tried but failed to stop Dr Ong from giving evidence and questioned his visa status. Hours after he gave evidence, Dr Ong attempted to leave the country but his passport was confiscated by immigration authorities. Indonesian authorities said Dr Ong entered the country on a tourist visa instead of a working visa. Wongso lived in Sydney for seven years before going to Jakarta on holidays where she met up with Ms Salihin. The pair had become friends while studying at the Billy Blue Design College in Sydney. Ms Saluhin died shortly af-

ter drinking a Vietnamese iced coffee ordered by Wongso in an upmarket Jakarta cafe. Police say Wongso poured cyanide into the coffee. The case against Wongso was almost dropped by Indonesian prosecutors because of a lack of evidence. But Australia's Justice Minister Michael Keenan approved the handing-over of an Australian Federal Police file that detailed Wongso's erratic and worsening behaviour over the 12 months before the alleged murder. The file contained confidential police intelligence reports that detail four suicide attempts that required hospitalisation, threatening behaviour towards colleagues, a major alcoholfuelled road accident, and an Apprehended Violence Order taken out against her by her ex-boyfriend following the destruction of his car by a vandal. Police in Jakarta used the

file to justify their interest in Wongso, stating publicly that she had many interactions with police in Australia.

Pujara, Jackson tons help India Blue amass 707 India Blue 707 (Pujara 166, Agarwal 161, Jackson 105, Shreyas 5-173) v India Green

I

Noida, Sep 7: ndia Blue's marathon innings ended on 707 at stumps on the second day of their Duleep Trophy match against India Green. Cheteshwar Pujara (166) and Sheldon Jackson (105) joined Mayank Agarwal as first-innings centurions as India Blue ground India Green into submission in Greater Noida on Monday. On an unhelpful surface that offered neither swing nor turn, India Green made matters worse for themselves, handing reprieves to batsmen through no-balls and dropped catches. Some of the batsmen who benefited from these lapses did not capitalise, but these were small mercies for India Green. India Blue's towering first-innings total gives them a significant advantage as they look to push for a lead that would take them through to the final against India Red. India Blue are already ahead of India Green on the points table, by virtue of the point they earned through the washout against India

Red. Resuming on 63, Pujara played a chanceless innings, almost never taking the aerial route - he hit 24 fours, but not a single six. Pujara seemed equally at ease against spin and pace and didn't seem troubled at all, irrespective of the length. He eventually fell for 166 off 280 after an inside-edge onto the stumps. Failing to pick a Shreyas Gopal googly and seeing that it was short, Pujara made room to cut. But with the ball spinning back in, it was too close to the body and he chopped on. "Even when I was facing spinners, it was very difficult to pick the googly under lights," Pujara said after his dismissal. "A little difficult to pick the seam on the pink ball." Pujara said that facing up to the new ball under lights on the opening day was the toughest phase of his innings. "This was my first game with the pink ball. I enjoyed batting on this wicket. There wasn't much help for the

fast bowlers. The most difficult session was the third session [on the first day], under lights, when they took the second new ball. It moved about and came on faster." Pujaras'

came from his preferred No. 3 position, although he acknowledged the importance of being adaptable. "Sometimes, you have to be prepared to bat at any number. If given a choice, and because I have scored so many runs at No. 3, I know how to bat there, I know how to build an innings. Given a choice, I would like to bat at No. 3, but I'm happy to bat wherever."

By the time Pujara was dismissed, Jackson had already raced to 26 off 31 balls and had added 46 runs for 32nd the sixth firstwicket. Jackclass son brought a difcenferent style to the tury table, stepping down to the spinners at will and unafraid to launch the ball in the air. Where Pujara was all patience and grind, Jackson provided a neat study in contrast with his brute force Cheteshwar Pujara scored and muscle. He had his his 32nd first-class century slice of luck - he was from his favoured No. 3 dropped by M Vijay at slip on 74 - but otherwise position provided a brilliant display

of clean hitting. He brought up his 10th firstclass century with a drilled boundary down the ground off Shreyas. "I consider myself lucky; I was dropped in the 70s," Jackson said. "The wicket was good and the ball was coming on nicely. When the new ball comes, it gets difficult [to sight it] because the speed changes, the ball skids on at good pace, so making the minor adjustment takes a little bit of time. "Every match I score is important, but to score in such matches is very important because it is live and people are watching. It [the surface] should behave a little differently on days 3 and 4. Both the sides [of the ball] are scuffed up a little bit." Jackson found good support from Parvez Rasool, who scored 25, and Karn Sharma, who stroked his way to 57. By the time he fell - holing out to longon to give Shreyas his fifth wicket and bring the innings to a close - he had ensured India Green were buried under a mountain of runs.

Djokovic sets up semi-final clash with Monfils AFP New York, Sep 7 : efending champion Novak Djokovic booked a 10th straight US Open semi-final appearance when JoWilfried Tsonga retired trailing 6-3, 6-2 in their marquee quarter-final on Tuesday. It was the third time in five matches that an opponent's injury has worked to Djokovic's advantage, after his walkover into the third round where Mikhail Youzhny retired after just six

D

games. Ninth-seeded Tsonga gave him more of a workout, but even before an apparent left knee injury began to trouble the Frenchman in the second set Djokovic had the match well in hand. The Serbian world number one will face another Frenchman, Gael Monfils, for a place in Sunday's championship match after the 10th seed pummelled compatriot Lucas Pouille 64, 6-3, 6-3.

It was the first time in 89 years that three French men had reached the quarter-finals of the US championships. Tsonga was the highest seed among them, but his challenge ended with a whimper. Down two breaks at 2-5 in the second, he called for the trainer, wincing as his knee was manipulated. A merciless Djokovic then served out the set at love, firing a 118 mph (189.9 Km/h) ace -- his first of the contest -- on set point.

After Tsonga opened the third set with a double fault he called a halt. "I really wish Jo a quick recovery," Djokovic said. "He's a fighter, he's somebody that loves the big stage." But Tsonga wasn't able to shine on that stage. Despite an entertaining array of shots, the longer the rallies went the more he missed, his unforced errors eventually climbing to 37. He gifted a break to

Djokovic with three double faults to fall behind 2-4 in the opening set, and while he regained the break he dropped his serve again in the next game and suddenly Djokovic was serving for the set. A break for 2-1 in the second was the only opening Djokovic needed. He backed up the break with an emphatic hold at love, broke again for 5-2 and didn't face a break point in the second frame.

top 30-20 in the world this year. We have only 4-5 tournaments left which is very important for us. So next year we will focus on super series tournaments and aim a medal in Commonwealth Games," she added. Talking about the final match, Pranaav said: "It wasn't an easy match as we knew about Toby who was with us in the same team in PBL and we were aware that he is good so we had prepared ourself well before the match. Brazil's Neymar has a shot saved by Colombia's goalkeeper David Ospina during their Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier

Neymar strikes as Brazil sink Colombia AFP MANAUS (BRAZIL), Sep 7 : eymar scored the winning goal as Brazil defeated Colombia 2-1 to maintain their 2018 World Cup qualifying resurgence. Barcelona superstar Neymar swept home a 74thminute strike at Manaus's Arena Amazonia to settle a pulsating encounter between the two rivals. It was a sweet victory for Neymar, who has unhappy memories from recent encounters with Colombia. The 24-year-old suffered a

N

tournament-ending injury against Colombia during Brazil's ill-fated 2014 World Cup campaign. A year later Neymar was sent off in a stormy battle between the two sides at the 2015 Copa America in Chile, and subsequently banned for four matches. Neymar's second-half winner came after Brazil had taken the lead in the second minute through Inter Milan defender Miranda, heading home his first ever international goal on his 31st birthday. But Colombia fought back and forced an equaliser

when Marquinhos headed into his home net nine minutes before half-time. The win saw Brazil move into second place in the overall standings, just ahead of Argentina on goal difference in South America's marathon qualifying competition for the 2018 World Cup. The five-time World Cup winners now have 15 points from eight games, one point behind leaders Uruguay who thrashed Paraguay in Montevideo earlier Tuesday.

The evening time for Spain tie is unfortunate: Amritraj PTI

T

New Delhi, Sep 7: he evening start for the Davis Cup tie against Spain has caught the Indian team by surprise with captain Anand Amritraj calling it an "unfortunate" decision that has compromised the country's home advantage. The singles matches will begin at 5pm and the doubles at 7pm as part of the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association's (DLTA) experiment to bring more fans to the stadium for the World Group Play-off tie. Non-playing captain Amritraj said neither he nor the players were consulted before the venue was decided for the Play-off-tie, beginning September 16. He feels that India should have hosted five-time champions Spain under hot and humid conditions instead of the cool evening environment. "I was not consulted about the timing of the matches and I am pretty sure the players were not either. Rohan did not know about it till I told him. We normally like hot conditions and playing in the evening certainly works better for the Spanish," Amritraj told PTI from USA. "I found out the timings of the matches on the Davis Cup website. I think the general feeling is that the Spanish team are so better than us that it doesn't make much of a difference whether we play in the heat of the day or in the evening. That is unfortunate because we should try to give our team every advantage possible, whether it's the surface or time of day as we did against Korea. This is Davis Cup and strange things can happen," fulminated Amritraj.

In an agreement reached with the revolting Indian players in January 2013, the AITA had agreed to consult the captain, who will talk with the players, before finalising the surface and venue of a tie. Rohan Bopanna, the country's highest ranked player in doubles at number 17, also confirmed to PTI that neither the timing nor the surface decided upon for the tie was discussed with him.

During Korea tie, our players also struggled in humid conditions. Our players need to be strong enough to sustain in extreme weather conditions. We have taken this decision in the best interest of the country and players. It's important to have people in the stadium for such a crucial tie," Chatterjee told PTI.

Also for a Play-off tie, a seating capacity of 4000 is a must and only a few Indian venues qualify. Since MSLTA and KSLTA had expressed difficulty in hosting the tie, there weren't many options available except for Delhi and Chennai. TNTA's Karti Chidambaram says since they host Chennai Open, India's only ATP 250 event, they had funds constraints to conduct Davis Cup which is not profit making.

The 64-year-old Amritraj, who was part of the Indian Davis Cup team that reached the final in 1974, said they needed to play on grass to challenge the formidable Spaniards. "Of our Playoff draws of the last three years, this is the toughest by far. Serbia and the Czech Republic had one top player (Novak Djokovic and Tomas Berdych) and they didn't show up and we still lost. Our best chance was last year when we were 1-1 and India blew the doubles. "In the latest ranking, Spain have 10 players in the top 50. If we had played on grass anywhere in India, it would certainly have made for a much closer and more interesting tie. But unfortunately, that could not be done," he said. Asked if there was any talk on changing the double combination to give youngsters a chance to be on the Davis Cup side, Amritraj said they did have a choice but it was the selection committee that "decided the team".

The new AITA Secretary General Hironmoy Chatterjee said the players wanted the tie on grass but they were left with no option but to go for Delhi due to the monsoon season. He, however, admitted that no one was consulted for the timings. "Look we have to be realistic.

"In singles, there were really no other choices with Yuki and Somdev still not fit enough to play. In doubles, there were some choices, but the Committee decided to stay with Rohan and Leander, probably feeling that they were our best hope of winning the doubles," he said.

"I hope there is a large crowd for the matches to support our team, since that seems to be the main reason for the evening schedule," Amritraj said. The AITA originally wanted this tie on grass but monsoon season ruled out Kolkata and Chandigarh that had hosted the Korea tie, where rain did cause a bit of trouble by making the grass soggy.
