4 RFs of Khatangpani Range in Tinsukia District under serious threat of timber smuggling and encroachment Rapid encroachment for Tea Cultivation have reduced the deep green extensive forest cover to a thinner membrane Laxman Sharma Digboi, Sept 24
RESERVE FORESTS IN THREAT
deep green cover lying naked with rare species of logs already smuggled.
While Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP Government in the State of Assam has been driving hard to evict hundreds of local residents in and around Kaziranga National Park to secure its glory and beauty , the miscreants here at Pengaree under Khatangpani Range of Doomdoma Forest Division here in Tinsukia District are reportedly engaged on massive illegal trade of timber smuggling, thus mercilessly rapping the nature’s cover of the 4 Reserve Forests (RF) namely, Tarani Reserve Forest, Buri-Dehing RF, Dwarmara RF and Noloni RF.
Most of the Tarani Reserve Forest was encroached by miscreants belonging to different villages of the area and being brought under rapid cultivation of tea leaves
The saddest and the most tragic tale with the BuriDehing RF is the encroachment of around one thousand bighas of RF land by the locals of Bordumsa from nearby villages in the name of erection of temple as if the natural forest resources in Assam do not have any guardian or protectors. According to Rabin Moran of Pengaree the funniest part surpassing the great height of stupidity has been the erection of boundary wall in the said RF that too is by utilizing the MP Fund during the tenure of Pawan Singh Ghatowar, the congress Minister earlier during the tenure of Tarun Gogoi led Congress Government in Assam.
The worst episode and ghastly act of rapping the natures’ cover can be seen at Tarani Reserve Forest where almost the entire forest land have been encroached by the
In Buri-Dehing RF around one thousand bighas of RF land was encroached by the locals of Bordumsa from nearby villages justifying that they would build a temple miscreants belonging to different villages of the area and being brought under rapid cultivation of tea leaves. Apparently if ones enter just 50 meters towards the forest from the Digboi -Pengaree Bordumsa one can see the hollowness of the seemingly
