Chief Minister Pema Khandu today flagged off Operation Shaurya –a joint expedition to the highest mountain peak of Arunachal Pradesh –Mount Kangto, from the North eastern Frontier Headquarter, ITBP at Khating Hill in Itanagar. At a height of 7042 meters above sea level in East Kameng district, Mount Kangto (also known as Kanggardo Rize) is a mountain in the Eastern Himalayas; located at the border of North East Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The entire area is claimed by China as part of Southern Tibet, but the claim is contested by India. The disputed area in which Kangto is located, would lie in the Tibetan county of Cona under the Chinese claims, but lies in East kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh under the Indian Administration. At least four known attempts have been made to scale the peak of Mount Kangto –twice by the Indian Mountaineering Federation,

Since 1st September last 167 families belong to Balijan and Majarbari have been living in temporary makeshift camps in Sukurbaria Bazaar. The flood by the Brahmaputra which started on 1st September has rendered most of them completely homeless. The flood has even destroyed 4

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said that the state govt would update sports infrastructure and facilities of the state soon while attending the closing ceremony of Dorjee Khandu All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium as Chief Guest today. Saying that there is no dearth of talent in individual sports in the state, he said, state lacks modern infrastructure and facilities in sports. However, he added that efforts are on to update the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy with state of the art facilities and equipments. He also said to provide fund for repair and maintenance of the Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium.

Mein further said that there is natural talents of sports among the North East boys and girls, need of the hour is to give them proper guidance and training.
