Guwahati, June 4: General Officer Commanding 4 Corps Lieutenant General Debraj Anbu on Saturday called on Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s office chamber and apprised him of the prevailing security scenario of the State. The meeting with the GOC 4 Corps that took place for the first time after Sonowal took over the Office of the Chief Minister, discussed on several dimensions of State’s security. Lieutenant General Anbu apprised Sonowal that security scenario in Assam has improved remarkably and the situation ‘is well under control’. Chief Minister Sonowal sought the cooperation from GOC 4 Corps and also assured to extend his Government’s help on all fronts for the State’s progress and prosperity. Sonowal also asked Lt. General Anbu to extend Army’s outreach programme ‘Sadbhavana’ to establish Army’s connectivity with the people of far-flung areas and ensure State’s security in all spheres. Life imprisonment for two Golaghat June 4: Today two convicts were announced Life imprisonment for murdering a fellow man of their region. As per the information on 14th July 2010 in an incident which occurred at Balijan of Golaghat district two men namely Farhuddin Ahmed and Mohammad Gulfizar Ali killed one man named Muhibuddin aged 55 of their region with sharp metal. As such today Golaghat District and Session Judge Robin Phukan sentenced them Life Imprisonment along with fine of rupees 5000 and in failure of payment of fine one month extended imprisonment. Cow lifter arrested in Tinsukia, sumo vehicle seized

Tinsukia, June 4. Police arrested a cow lifter during a patrolling between Duliajan Bordubi road on Thursday late night. The accused has been identified as Imran Ali of chaulkhowa in Dibrugarh district. Police seized a sumo vehicle and several equipment from his possession. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the Government officials of different departments to dispose off pending files immediately. At a high level review meeting held at the conference room at CM’s Block here today, Chief Minister Sonowal asked the officials to clear the pending files immediately in the interests of public service. “If there is any problem in clearing any files as per Government rules, the people have the right to know. The officials must ensure that people coming to Dispur do not face any sort of harassment or inconvenience in the process of clearing of pending files,” he said. The Chief Minister directed the Revenue and Disaster Management Department to conduct a survey of all types of land to get a clear picture of the land status. Underscoring the need for toning up the Assam Accord Implementation Department, Sonowal asked the officials to submit in details

World Environment Week: Lohit Administration to observe car/vehicle free day every month Bishnu Rana Tezu, June 4
Lohit District Administration has decided to observe one day car/vehicle free day in every month to maintain pollution free environment in and around Tezu township area as well as to minimise the Government exchequer. Accordingly, the first car/ vehicle free day will be observed on 7th June 2016 on the occasion of celebration of World Environment Day/ Week and thereafter of every month or next day if 7th is weekend or holiday henceforth. In this regard, the District Administration is confident that Lohit District Administration, with help and co-operation of every government officers and
officials of different state government departments of Tezu will establish a benchmark to be followed by others. The Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf, IAS has requested all the Government servants of State Government offices to observe one day car/ vehicle free day on 7th day of every month or next day if holiday by using their bicycle or by walking which will also help in keeping them physically fit as well as to maintain clean and hygienic atmosphere surrounding and reduce government expenditure on POL items. Despite being a resourceful State, Assam is lagging behind in terms of development. Look at Gujarat which is mostly covered by desert. But from out
of that barren desert has sprung forth fertility bringing fruits of development to 5 crore people. It is against this backdrop, if we toil hard we can make Assam a leading and prosperous State of the country,” he said, adding, “A person who plunges headlong into his work does not find time to gossip or fritter away his time. He knows how precious time is. Inducing a right work culture will catapult our State on the path of development. And the only way forward is to work hard with a positive mindset to bring about transformation in the lives of 3.2 crore people of our State.” Sonowal also reviewed on the status of the ongoing schemes and programmes with the heads of different departments. The meeting was attended, among others, by Chief Secretary, VK Pipersenia, DGP, Mukesh Sahay, Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner and Secretaries, Secretaries, directors and senior police officials.

A team from Tinsukia police on the night of 3rd June managed to apprehend Deben Dohotia, 42 yrs, S/o Sri.Nageswar Dohotia of Kathalguri village under Bordumsa police station and recovered 48 grams of substances suspected to be Brown Sugar from his possession. Suspecting that there might be more members in the illegal business police is working on apprehending rest of the gang. The anti drugs squad was headed by Lamhao Doungel, additional SP (headquarters), Tinsukia along with OC, Bordumsa and OC, Pengaree. The Tinsukia police has continued its tirade against durg peddlers and arrested quite a few peddlers along with significant amount of substances suspected to be brown sugar.
