In a press release issued by Bishwajit Gogoi, spokesman of TAYPA, it has been stated that representatives from the Tai Ahom tribe, which is one of the major tribe of the state, were included as min-

But the non inclusion of even one representative from the tribe in the Sonowal ministry is an injustice, the release stated. Likha Maj withdraws NRL's Proposed Tinsukia police seizes 600 of cardamom from new FIR against Arunachal Bamboo Project Blocks kgsTinsukia railway station Elephant Corridor CM Kalikho Pul A Staff Reporter Itanagar, May 25

Public leader Likha Maj today in a press conference at the press club informed that he has withdrawn the FIR filed against Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on the alleged communal remarks he had made in an audio clip that was in circulation towards the end of 2015. Maj had filed an FIR against Pul on 15 December, 2015 based on what he claimed he thought was the audio recording of Pul making communal comments, to which Maj had serious objections against. “I was personally anguished by the content of the audio clip and had filed a complaint against him,” Maj said in his statement. He also said that he has come to learn during investigations that the statement allegedly made by Pul in the audio clip was not

authentic. Accordingly, he maintained that has no reasons to harbor any grievances against Pul. Maj said that the police had sent the charge sheet to the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, but a voice test was denied following the Supreme Court ruling. Responding to queries on how he could determine whether it was Pul’s voice or not without a voice test, he

claimed that “After filing the complaint I was closely involved with the investigating agencies and was satisfied with the outcome of the results”, Maj added. Also voicing his support for the chief minister, Maj said that he is a real Messiah for Arunachal as he has been seen working tirelessly for the people of the state within months of being inducted as the chief minister, and under his leadership, the state would flourish and strengthen in all spheres. Meanwhile, Maj also announced that he is donating Rs 5 lakhs for Seppa fire victims, Rs 2.50 lakhs each for Kalaktang accident victims and Tawang landslide victims towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund since most of his business takes place in those districts. EKSWCO Press Advisory Board chairman Chopa Cheda also thanked Maj for his generous donation on behalf of the organization.

ET Correspondent Golaghat, May 25

This time again Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat is on news headlines for its unfair activities. This time the NRL has proposed to start a bamboo project. But for this proposed bamboo project high rise walls are constructed which block natural elephant corridor. By blocking the elephant corridor chances of human elephant clash are being created by the NRL authorities. The local people of Panka Grant where the refinery is located have sharp reactions on this act of the NRL and they stated that without any public hearing or discussion with the local people of Panka Grant how the authorities decided to set up the bamboo project. The local

people have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat on May 23 demanding to stop the proposed bamboo project. They also stated that apart from human elephant clash pollution level will also rise in the whole area for this project and questions arising regarding the permission by the Forest Department and Pollution Control Board as the area come under ' No Development Zone '.

In a joint operation by Hijuguri police and sleuths of sales tax department, 12 bags of cardamom, weighing 600 kgs, has been seized from new Tinsukia railway station on Wednesday.

It is to be mentioned that the NRL had already done a similar activity a couple of months ago by blocking elephant corridor to make a Golf Ground for leisure and amusement of its officers. A PIL had been filed at the Gauhati High Court and now the Golf Ground Project is stopped for the time being by the court orders .

Shockingly, their was only mention of the name as Dipak Kumar as the sender without even his town forget the address in the booking records. Even the consignee name has been mentioned as one Paban Kumar in Delhi without his complete details.

Rishu Kalantri. Tinsukia, May 25

It may be mentioned here that even the Indian postal department does not accept any registered document and speed post of sender and consignee complete name and address is not mentioned. So how come the railway parcel department accept such bookings has raised mysterious questions on their role. Had the details of sender and consignor was properly recorded the illegal business would have hewn behind the bars by now. This step would have also put a check on smuggling of illegal goods from new Tinsukia railway station.

Probably his government failed to fulfill the expectations of people and so they were defeated in the poll, he said. “We will analyse why we faced such a debacle. We must have committed some mistakes. We apologise to the people for that. We will now strengthen the party. We are working on how to reorganise the party. The challenge is to find out the mistakes and go to people,” Gogoi said. Stating that the situation this time was similar to 1985 when AGP came to power, foreigners issue had played the main role then, “also like this election”. “AGP had benefited that time and now it is BJP. They (BJP) succeeded in dividing the people by doing publicity that existence of Assamese and Hindus are at

stake… We took steps on infiltration issue. But the way RSS presented it, we could not guess it. Already reports have come out that over 25,000 RSS members worked during the polls,” Gogoi said. He said the Congress workers are not disheartened as 31 per cent of people of Assam voted for Congress, while BJP alone got 29 per cent votes and BJP-led alliance got 41 per cent. “In 2011, we got 39 per cent votes. This time it decreased from that, but increased from what we got in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. We are thankful to the people for giving us chance to serve them for 15 years. We succeeded in many fronts and also failed at some,” Tarun Gogoi said. Stating that he does not have any plans to retire from active politics as of now, Gogoi said Congress will now prepare itself for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The union hopes that the new ruling team will execute all their election promises in to reality. It was said during election campaign that the Indigenous people of the state will be safe under the new leadership and the preceding election was the last battle to save the state and its indigenous Community & Land, on the other hand tribal are fighting for land and identity, so we would appeal the new CM not to ignore any one of the problem faced by the indigenous Trial peoples of Assam. Tribal are facing lost of problem in protecting their land in the constitutionally reserved belt & block areas, because maximum land of the Belt & Block areas has been illegally occupied by the people who are not entitled, the students’ union said in a release. ‘Tribals are being deprived from right to employment since couple of decades as thousands of backlog post has been converted to general category. In the case of promotion of ST employees also the special promotion for ST has been halt by some ant-tribal officials in the state which is due right of the tribal employees according to the constitution of India. For many years the money coming for tribal development has not been implemented properly, the money spent for ordinary schemes which are not gaining the population of the state’, said release. According to law every children has right to learn in mother tongue in elementary level but that is not done in the state for which children of many tribal communities are being deprived from their right as their language are not recognized as medium of instruction which is violation of RTE so we request him protection and promotion of the language cultures of different tribal community must get priority in the ruling policy of new government. ‘Good governance was a serious matter in Assam, common

masses has to so many troubles in the way of getting their work done in the offices, form Janata Bhawan to Panchayat and municipality office every where people need to pay like paying for fanatic groups in rural areas. Behavior of officers in different Govt. offices with general citizens is so unsympathetic which makes a huge gap between public and government and DALAL get a ground to corrupt the underprivileged people that must be checked’, the students union demands. In March, Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India formed a three member committee to find out solution of the scheduling issue of the sixth communities of Assam by changing its modality, the students union request on behalf of All the Tribal’s of Assam to ensure the protection of the identity, socio-cultural values & various rights of the present tribal’s of Assam before going to enlist more communities into ST list in Assam. Because some of the communities in the proposal have a large number of creamy layer and for them underprivileged section of the same communities will be deprived and it will affect the existing ST too. If the government of India does not take the present tribal’s in account before going to take any decision as it will be direct discrimination on the part of the present tribal of Assam. We hope the new government of Assam under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal from Tribal origin will not ignore the tribal’s the autochthons of this land as it was happening since independence. ABSU request to resolve the problems in education from KG to PG in the state in priority, because education is only means of human resource development in the state. The venture school problem should be resolved as early as possible, because venture schools has been playing a vital role in the field of education where the government did not build any schools, so the issues must be solved with sympathetic approach. Education department is not less than civil administration and police administration but it is getting less important than any other department in the state. The students’ union also demand teachers and officers’ accountability commission to ensure the quality education and corruption in education department of Assam and councils, the release said.

Salseng for High Command to take the final call Shillong, May 25: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister SC Marak said that the High Command should take the final call on the grievances of the Congress legislators. "This is the main motivating factor that has united all the 60 legislators to form an opposition-less Government, as well as formed the Nagaland Legislator's Forum (NLF) on Naga Political Issue, by sinking all our differences of

the past," Zeliang said. He was addressing a programme on completion of two-years of DAN government. He said the Parliamentary Working Committee of NLF under the chairmanship of the Speaker had visited Delhi last year and this year and has met most of the important political leaders of the Country, to brief them about the Naga issue, and seek their support as and when the matter is brought to Parliament and other appropriate fora. "We have also met various Naga political groups for exchange of

views and ideas on how to achieve Naga unity, and work together for the common Naga cause," he said. The framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 can be said to be the indirect outcome of all the efforts, he said. He said the Framework Agreement signed between the Centre and NSCN(IM) is like a preamble that sets out the tone for final resolution to protracted Naga political problem through peaceful means. He said the Naga civil societies and various religious organisations have also been moving to-

gether with one vision for early solution to the issue. "Our achievements during the last two years have been quite laudable in Agriculture and allied sectors, such as horticulture and animal husbandry. However, we have to admit that much more remains to be done," Zeliang said. To set out the state government's vision and target till 2023, it will bring out a Vision Document for Nagaland in line with the 'Vision 2020' for North East Region and the Act East Policy, the Chief Minister said. "The Vision Document will inform

people how we will go about to achieve selfsufficiency in foodgrain and vegetables, horticulture, meat, eggs and milk," he said. Zeliang said other priorities of the government will be to exploit the state's mineral resources, besides improving roads, power, water supply, healthcare, education and employment generation by bringing in private investment. He said the efforts will be made to bring out Naga customary law and order to protect the Nagas from possible demographic assimilation in the long run. (PTI)

Poll panel sends views on dual post Shillong, May 25: The Election Commission of India has sent its views on MLAs holding the posts of MDCs to the Law department. An official source said on Tuesday that the Law department is examining the matter before it is sent to the Meghalaya Governor who in-turn will forward his response to the High Court of Meghalaya where the PIL on the dual post is pending. However, the official is tightlipped about the content of views expressed by the Election Commission as to whether the MLAs holding the post of MDCs will come under office of profit or not. The last hearing of the case was on December 15 last year. Earlier, the High Court wanted the Governor to give his views on the dual posts after referring the matter to the Election Commission as per article 192 (2) of the Constitution on matters related to disqualification of legislators for holding office of profit. There were varied views regarding dual posts as some legal experts had pointed out that since District Council is an autonomous body formed per the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, the Council is not under the State Government, and hence the posts under the Council do not fall under office of profit. While KHADC CEM P N Syiem is yet to relinquish the post of MDC, seven legislators- HDR. Lyngdoh, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Stephanson Mukhim, Phlastingwell Pangniang, Brolding Nongsiej, Metbah Lyngdoh and Sanbor Shullai- had given up the posts of MDC fearing disqualification in the wake of State Government making the Dual-Post Bill effective from October 1 last year. The case has been lingering since a PIL was filed in October 2014 seeking disqualification of legislators cum MDCs. The PIL highlights about the rule 17(1) (a) of the Assam (and Meghalaya) Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules 1951 for the disqualification of MDCs who are holding the post of legislators.(Agencies)

Shivraj Patil rejects Digvijaya's claim, says Batla encounter was 'genuine'

Former union home minister Shivraj Patil New Delhi, May 25: Former union home minister Shivraj Patil on Wednesday reaffirmed that the 2008 Batla House encounter was genuine and asked Congress general secretaryDigvijaya Singh to prove his claim on the same. "I had told at that time that on the basis of information received from the police and taking into consideration all facts, according to me it was a genuine encounter. I cannot change my stand on a daily basis," Patil told. "If someone says something otherwise then it's his responsibility to prove it. If he is saying that it was a fake encounter then he should prove it," he added. The Congress general secretary yesterday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi ledNDA government to order a judicial probe into the 2008 encounter at Batla House in Delhi in which two suspected terrorists and a police officer were killed. "Batla House encounter was fake. I dare the BJP to go for a judicial probe. I still stand by my remarks on the encounter. I don't know who is Bada Sajid or Chhota Sajid," Singh said. The encounter, which had taken

place during the former UPA regime, recently came into news amid a claim by an alleged ISIS operative that he had fled Batla House right before the police raided it. Batla House encounter, officially known as Operation Batla House, took place on September 19, 2008, against Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists in Batla House locality in Jamia Nagar, Delhi, in which two suspected terrorists were killed while two other suspects were arrested. Encounter specialist and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who led the police action, was also martyred during the incident. According to the reports, Mohammed Sajid alias Bada Sajid is one of the six persons who feature in the 22-minute video allegedly posted by the Islamic State recently, however he was one of the terrorist who was claimed killed in the encounter. Who needs medicine if eating mud can cure diseases Haridwar (Uttarakhand), May 25: You must have often heard mothers complaining about the babies eating mud in their early childhood and them complaining about having problems of digestion. But have you have ever heard of an adult eating mud and gaining popularity. Rameshwar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Muradabad district, is quite popular these days in Uttarakhand's Haridwar city because of his bizarre habit of consuming mud on a regular basis. What's more surprising is the fact that he is absolutely fit and healthy and has no problems of digestion or any

kind of gastric disease. A farmer by profession, this wonder man has been eating mud from the last 17 years. He had started eating mud after he suffered from a disease wherein blood used to come out from his mouth. The doctors at that time told him that there is no cure to his disease, following which he started having mud as his 'bread and butter'. He claims the disease was cured after that incident and he started having a healthy stomach. Rameshwar, who lives in Brahmpuri area of Haridwar, claims he consumes at least 500 grams of mud every day. (ANI)

Most of Jayalalithaa's 'ridiculous' letters to PM Modi go in trash: Swamy New Delhi, May 25: Accusing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of constantly badgering Prime Minister Narendra Modi with letters on sundry issues, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday alleged that most of her letters went to the trash anyway and her recent one demanding the exemption of the state from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) belongs to the waste bin as well. "She holds the Guinness world record in writing letters to the Prime Minister. Most of it goes to the waste paper basket and it should go into the waste paper basket, according to me. She has written letters saying that Tamil Nadu assembly has passed a resolution saying that the killers, to which the Supreme Court accorded capital punishment, should be let free because of Tamil sentiment," Swamy said. "Such ridiculous letters

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy have come from her and I think this one about NEET should also go in the waste paper basket," he added. Swamy's reaction comes in the wake of Jayalalithaa's recent letter to the Prime Minister asking him to exempt the state from the NEET, saying that it would cause 'grave injustice' to the students of the state, who have already been covered by a transparent admission policy laid down by her government.

Appealing to an exemption, the Chief Minister stressed that the introduction of NEET would nullify the implementation of policy initiatives and socio-economic objectives of the state, as the regulations for a National Test may not have such enabling provi-

sions. "The National Test is out of tune with the prevailing socio-economic milieu and administrative requirements of Tamil Nadu. In these circumstances, I request that necessary measures may be taken to ensure that Tamil Nadu is permitted to continue its existing fair and transparent system of admission to medical colleges and dental colleges in the State and not forced to implement the NEET even in the future," the letter states. President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday signed the central government's ordinance exempting states from holding the NEET for undergraduate medical and dental admissions this year. (ANI)

FIR filed against Bajrang Dal activists over 'self defence' camp Lucknow, May 25: An FIR has been lodged against the Bajrang Dal activists, following a video showing them taking part in a mock drill where men wearing skull caps have been portrayed as terrorists. Faizabad Superintend of Police Sankalp Sharma told that theFIR has been registered under section 153 A- for promoting enmity between different groups and added that the matter is being investigated. In the annual selfdefence camp, the Bajrang Dal cadres are trained to use rifles,

swords and sticks so that they can 'protect the Hindus. Similar camps would be held till June 5 in Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit, Noida and Fatehpur cities in the state. The cadres can be seen killing men dressed as Muslims during the mock drill. Manoj Verma, the organizer, said the cadres are given a lot of boost during the camps. "We prepare them to boost their self-esteem. This training is of self-defence. They are taught to tackle different situations. This is

about self-confidence," Verma said. "This whole annual program is about boosting the self-confidence and morale of the cadres," he added. Bajrang Dal, which is the youth wing of Vishva Hindu Parishad, has faced allegations of rioting and violence against religious minorities in the past. Downplaying the furore over the annual self-defence camp, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik said yesterday that there was nothing wrong in conducting such camps, adding it should

be continued at all costs. Justifying his stand, Naik said such camps promote self-defence, which was a skill that should be imbibed by every individual. "There is no harm in self-defence camps, what's important is to understand the intention behind them. All kinds of education teaching self defence is important and it should be continued at all costs. How can those who can't defend themselves, defend the society? Self defence must be taught in schools and other institutions," Naik told the media. (ANI)

Donald Trump's Washington win overshadowed by protest Washington, May 25: Winning the Washington state primary on Tuesday, Donald Trump is less than ten delegates shy of clinching the Republican presidential nomination. Winning at least 40 of Washington's delegates means the New York billionaire now has 1,229 of the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the GOP

nomination. Four more Washington delegates are still to be decided, which could add to Trump's total delegate count. Following his decisive win in Indiana which forced his remaining rivals out of the race, he became the presumptive GOP presidential nominee earlier this month. However, his victory was

overshadowed on Tuesday night, as clashes between anti-Trump protesters and police outside his event in Albuquerque, New Mexico drew more attention. Protesters broke through police barricades, lit fires and threw rocks at the city's convention center, reports. As anti-Trump

Federal Alliance seeks 'formal invitation' for talks from PM Oli Kathmandu, May 25: Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's efforts to resume talks with the Federal Alliancefailed to materialise after the Madhesis refused to turn up, and instead, demanded a "proper invitation". The agitating parties which have been protesting in Kathmandu, sought a formal invitation addressed to the Sanghiya Gathabandhan, an alliance formed by the agitating forces, instead of a letter addressed to the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), reports the Kathmandu Post. Karachi, May 25: Confirming the death of their chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour in a US drone strike in Balochistan, the Afghanistan Taliban named Maulvi Haibatullah Akhunzada as his successor and the new leader of the terrorist organisation. According to a statement from the Taliban said that "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announces that Mullah Akhtar Mansour embraced shahadat in a US drone strike on Shaban 14, in the border region," While confirming his death, the group also announced Mullah Mansour's successor as Maulvi Haibatullah Akhunzada, who was appointed the new chief of the group. Sirajuddin Haqqani and Maulvi Yakub have been appointed as deputy chiefs of the group. United States had earlier claimed that they had taken out Mansour in an airstrike in Pakistan, however, doubts remained in the air over his death as conflicting reports emerged. The Pentagon confirmed the airstrike in a statement but did not say if the Taliban leader was taken out. The Taliban revealed last summer that Mansour assumed command following the death of longtime leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, who died in Pakistan in 2013. According to the U.N. He further said that the US will continue to share intelligence and other information with Pakistan, to point out where they believe that terrorists are finding safe haven. Talking about the furore over the airstrike last week in Balochistan which allegedly killed Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Toner further said that the U.S. considered the Haqqani Network to be an integral part of Taliban operations, and that the airstrike was crucial as Mansour was targeting U.S. as well as Afghan security personnel. "Mansour represented an effort to rekindle the war, rekindle the conflict, restoke the violence in Afghanistan, and was not interested in pursuing

rum-Nepal, one of the constituents of the SLMM as saying. An all-party meet called by Oli on Tuesday ended without entering into the

peace. We believe that an Afghan-led, Afghanowned peace process is the way ultimately to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan," he said. When asked if the Barack Obama government trusts Pakistan when it comes to war against terrorism, the spokesperson said that U.S. has always been clear with Islamabad regarding its terror policy and that operational security trumps a need to inform other governments prior to a mission. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier said that the drone strike by the United States in Balochistan was a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, to the U.S. responded saying that they do respect Islamabad's territorial integrity, but that will

agenda after Madhesi parties did not participate. Oli's aides, however, said that Morcha representatives did not attend the meeting "due to their own internal differences". Pramod Dahal, press adviser to Oli, later issued a statement, claiming that "the time table of the talks was set in consultation with Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chair-

man Mahantha Thakur". "PM Oli was planning to hold the meeting at 9am. But the meeting was delayed by an hour as per Thakur's request as he had a prior appointment with a doctor," Dahal said. Kathmandu, May 25: Sadbhawana Party leader Rajendra Mahato has said that the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) was for amending the constitution, not for rewriting it. His remarks comes on the wake on demands made by Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav that constitution should be rewritten to address the demands raised by some sections of the society. Both Mahato and Yadav's parties are part of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, which is an alliance of seven Madhes-based forces that are protesting against the constitution. "Our demand is amendment to some of the provisions of the consti-

tution. We, Madhesi Morcha, have never called for rewriting the constitution,". Yadav, on the other hand, has been pressing that Morcha would not sit for talks with the Prime Minister K.P. Sharma led- government until they agreed to rewrite the constitution. Though the Morcha did not attend the all-party meeting called by Oli on Monday, Mahato said the letter sent by PM was a "positive move". Modi's Iran Visit The long-term goal This has been the week of Asian pivots, where world leaders bury old animosities with state visits-and get to sign big business deals while they are doing so. Instead, in a more fraught (Photo: part of the continent, three turkishweekly) leaders-Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani-signed a flurry of deals in Tehran on Monday, aimed at reworking political obstacles that have hobbled the region's economies through years of war and economic boycotts. In the most important deal by far, Modi announced in Tehran that India would invest about $500 million building two terminals and five cargo berths at the Iranian seaport of Chabahar. To Iran, the facility has long been an underused, underfunded resource that has languished through years of U.N. and Western sanctions. To India, it is a lot more: A precious sea outlet that bypasses its arch rival, Pakistan. Under the deal Iran is now free to export its most precious resource-its mammoth oil and gas reserves. And since most Western sanctions against Iran ended in January, Rouhani's government has raced to boost its oil production, frantically trying to turn around its sanctions-hit economy. The International Energy Agency said Iran had pumped 3.6 million barrels of oil a day in April-a level it had last hit in 2011, before U.N. sanctions banned much of its output from world markets. Iran has vowed to defy production cuts proposed by OPEC members, arguing that after years of embargoes, it should be exempt from any such agreements. That is good news to India-Iran's biggest customer for its energy exports, after China-which needs a reliable flow of oil. To Iranians, India appears to be as ideal a partner as they can hope for at the moment. It is just the start of far bigger deals: 12 business agreements were signed during Modi's visit to Tehran. India is increasing its consumption of energy, and we can import a lot of goods and services, including high tech, from India. Also Chabahar is just one piece of India's strategy in Iran, however. Modi also agreed to spend about $1.6 billion building a rail link from Chabahar to Iran's inland city of Zabehan. That will form part of a new transportation network that links not only Iran and India, but also Afghanistan-a country that's also emerging from years of war and sanctions, and whose huge mineral resources are in need of investment and customers. All that has brought a flush of optimism to Iranians, many of whom have been deeply disappointed by how few major Western investments have begun since sanctions ended four months ago.

Hopes over reality Will the expectations meet the end of reality? The BJP recently was set to form its first government in the Northeast, ousting the Congress in Assam after its 15-year uninterrupted rule. The new chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal promised that the new government would leave no stone unturned to fulfil the expectations of the people of Assam. Sarbananda Sonowal expressed happiness over the results and said the party would put in its best efforts to fulfill the expectations of the people of Assam. The greater Assamese society in Assam spontaneously responded to the appeal of BJP and its alliance partners and it led the BJPs to victory. The people of Assam have been suffering due to the misrule of the Congress in Assam. So they supported the BJP and its allies to form the government. The people of Assam wanted a change. They wanted their identities to be protected and protection of their culture, pride and tradition. So for this the people have supported us and we are going to fulfill the expectations of the people. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi accepted defeat and said the party will play the role of a constructive opposition in the Assam legislative assembly in the coming days. It is a grand success for the BJP. The BJP, the AGP and the BPF came together this time and won the polls. The BJP win has given hope to the people that the saffron party will live up to its promises. The BJP has not only assured to end the existing corruption in Assam under the Congress rule but also to bring change and development and give employment to the youth of the region and end infiltration from Bangladesh by sealing the IndoBangladesh border. The people of Assam have been frustrated at the corruption of the Congress government, particularly in the last term of the government under Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Although the Congress had also assured to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border and give employment to the people in 2001, nothing much changed in the three terms under the Congress government. The BJP's win means a lot to Assam. The Bangladeshi infiltration has not stopped even though 30 years have elapsed since the signing of the Assam Accord. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh have assured that the Indo-Bangladesh border will be sealed to end the problem of infiltration. Many others expects that the faction, which is in peace negotiations with the central government since 2010 the new government should complete the process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which according to many is "the only feasible solution to the illegal migrants issue, which has led to much bloodshed in the state". The faster update of the NRC is a major expectation as it is the only way by which things would be made clear about who are the illegal migrants in the state. Another expectation is that the government should certainly help in sealing an accord between the ULFA and the Indian government. A heavy dose of sincerity, motivation, ideas, imagination and the will to bulldoze things and shake the bureaucracy to get things done are some of the expectations the people have from the new dispensation that will come to run Assam in about a week's time. If the rest of India can do it, Assam sure can. Of course, ministers must be able to put their ego, that would soon develop, and potential arrogance into little bottles and throw them into the Brahmaputra for things to move for the State's welfare!

supplies out to the fleet while it cruises the seas. Each "customer" ship maneuvers parallel to the CLF ship in turn, closing to the normally unthinkable distance of 150 feet, give or take. Once safely alongside, deck crews rig up wires between the two ships. That lets the CLF crew pass fuel hoses or pallets of stores to the customer. Today, furthermore, ships often deploy helicopters for "vertical replenishment," or VERTREP, passing less bulky items from flight deck to flight deck. The U.S. Navy perfected UNREP procedures during World War II, in the Pacific theater in particular. No longer did task forces need to put into port to resupply. Instead, CLF "service squadrons" brought supplies to them as they steamed across the Pacific. Freeing the fleet from intermittent stops made it possible to wage naval war constantly-applying unremitting pressure on the Imperial Japanese Navy. Indeed, wartime Prime Minister Hideki Tojo pronounced underway replenishment one of three prime determinants of U.S. victory in the Pacific War. That's high praise coming from the foe. It's doubtful UNREP operations are what vex Indians. They take place out of public view, and they needn't involve U.S. ships' tarrying in Indian harbors. Indian Navy CLF ships could transfer stores to U.S. ships riding the waves, or Indian warships could resupply themselves from the U.S. logistics fleet. Out of sight, out of mind. Rather, Modi's political opponents-chiefly the Congress Party, the party of Nehru and the Gandhisfret that the compact will not just invite U.S. forces into Indian ports and bases but grant them automatic access-potentially entangling India in wars or tumults inimical to its national interests and purposes. In other words, skeptics view furnishing logistical support for U.S. military operations as tantamount to taking an active hand in those operations. It's doubtful in the extreme that LEMOA will commit New Delhi to anything that works against its interests as it perceives them. Host nations grant access to their soil. They

Villalovos) can withdraw what they've granted for any reason-or no reason at all. No one expects a government to commit to warlike ventures in advance, foreclosing its say-so in contentious matters. Chances are Modi's emissaries are trying to get the wording of LEMOA crystal clearleaving no room for such misperceptions Hence the delay. To grok Indians' skittishness, Americans could do worse than reacquaint themselves with their own history. It's been about 69 years since India won independence from the British Empire. Well, how easy was it to fashion an accord with the United States 69 years into the republic's age of independence? That would be 1845 if you date things from 1776, when the founders published the Declaration of Independence at Philadelphia. (The other logical starting date would be 1783, when the Treaty of Paris codified the Revolutionary War's outcome.) Great Britain and its Royal Navy ruled the waves in 1845, much as the U.S. Navy has ruled the waves since 1945. How would Americans have reacted had London sought to negotiate a LEMOA in 1845, proposing that Washington grant Royal Navy men-of-war the right to put into New York or Norfolk for supplies? With outsized suspicion, one imagines. After all, just 31 years had elapsed since British redcoats had landed in the Chesapeake Bay and burned the Executive

Mansion, as the White House was known in those days. The War of 1812 affront was well within living memory-and would have shaped attitudes against any Anglo-American covenant. It would have taken a herculean feat of presidential leadership to overcome lingering resentments. In 1845, furthermore, it had only been 22 years since President James Monroe and Secretary of State John Quincy Adams issued the Monroe Doctrine. The two statesmen's "hands-off" doctrine visà-vis European empires would remain an axiom of U.S. foreign policy for a century after they enunciated it. It's tough to imagine 1840s Americans consenting to grant the Royal Navy access that might help Britain reinforce its grip on Western Hemisphere territories or even, conceivably, conquer new territories-and vitiate the Monroe Doctrine in the bargain. Nor were such attitudes a passing fad. Late in the century, as a canal across Central America began to take shape, the likes of Mahan, Theodore Roosevelt, and Henry Cabot Lodge agonized constantly about keeping European navies from seizing land in the Caribbean Sea basin and emplacing naval stations there. From Caribbean bases, the Royal Navy, the Imperial German High Seas Fleet, or some other antagonist could menace the sea lanes connecting Gulf of Mexico or At-

Restructuring of Defence - Sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Photo: freevisuals4u)

Sir, Since taking over Charge by NDA led by Prime-minister Narendra Modi, India keeps registering significant progress in many fields. Still, there are people who cannot feel the progress criticize the Narendra Modi led government as these people view things with jaundiced eyes. During U.P.A regime, diplomatic relation with some neighboring countries got strained, which the NDA patched up adroitly. Now, as far as the diplomatic relation with other countries including all the super powers is concerned, India could place itself in a strong position. But we believe, defence sector requires serious handling and more attention. In order to keep abreast of the pace with which China is striding, it would take much time for India to match China. While China maintains a tough stand to check corruption in the armed forces, counterparts in India are not free from corruption. It has often been alleged that some of the high ups of the force accept bribe in recruitment.

A time was there when the Chief of the army had to caution lamenting that the arms and ammunition India had could hardly run for 20 days in the event of war. Of course, with the NDA in the centre such apprehension becomes a thing of the past. China took the issue of military reforms with all seriousness, whereas India still maintains an apathetic notion towards restructuring of the defence sector. It is for the armed forces to find out means of balancing of the growing man power shortage and the budgetary constraints and also to ensure modernization of human resources i.e. recruitment, retention, promotion and exit as all belonging to the forces should be satisfied. For prompt co-ordination among the three forces, the creation of the post of the Chief of defence staff is deemed indispensible. Yours etc. Ashok Bordoloi Dibrugarh

lantic seaports with the canal, and thence with the Pacific Ocean. Americans would have found that intolerable. Staving off great sea powers thus remained central to U.S. foreign policy and strategy for many decades. Not until World War I-with the European Allies under extreme duress on the Western Front-could Washington countenance something akin to a LEMOA. And even then, the United States joined the Allies not as a formal ally but as an "Associated Power." Nor did it assent to help guarantee the peace hammered out at Versailles, or accede to the League of Nations the Woodrow Wilson administration had espoused with such vigor. In short, an entrenched sense of separateness from Old World politics colored how the United States conducted itself for many decades. And there may be a general rule here. There's something about rising regional hegemons that inhabit distinct regions and are forced to manage outside great powers that meddle in what they regard as offshore preserves. It's scarcely surprising that Indians today have reflexes akin to those impelling Americans in their own early history. A measure of empathy-and sympathy-wouldn't be misplaced for U.S. diplomats trying to close out LEMOA this summer. Courtesy: The Diplomat

Ramdev to initiate online healthcare startups

Avail exciting offers from LeEco on Flipkart's 'Big Shopping Days' sale

Haridwar, May 25: After taking on FMCG biggies in the country, Baba Ramdev is turning his attention to digital health startups such as Lybrate and Practo. Patanjali, Ramdev's Haridwar-based company, is lining up an online platform (chikitsalaya) for ayurvedic consultation and treatment, said people familiar with the development. While a Patanjali spokesperson was not available for comment, industry experts said the move will help the company ramp up its outreach fast. During an interaction last month, Ramdev said Patanjali was getting around five crore internet searches every month. "A company that manufactures its own drugs and sets up a digital consultation platform subsequently will have a multifold impact on its business," said Saurabh Arora, founder & CEO of Tiger Global-backed Lybrate, one of the country's largest online doctor consultation platforms. Patanjali, which has raked in revenues of around Rs 5,000 crore in 2015-16, sells FMCG products such as ghee, soaps and honey, while its sister concern Divya Pharmacy manufactures and sells Ayurvedic medicines. Ramdev also runs an ayurveda hospital and a medical college in his campus Patanjali Yogpeeth, near Haridwar, which hosts thousands of visitors every month. "Absence of doctors and pharmacies is the main problem faced by traditional medicine practices such as ayurveda in the country. If Ramdev manages to launch an online consultation platform, he will be one of the forerunners in the business," said Punit Kapoor, director of online pharmacy BigChemist. BigChemist, which gets around 10 lakh page views per month, is getting an increasing number of enquiries for natural products, said Kapoor. "Even large FMCG companies have started working on separate websites for their natural products. Online consultation means patients will not have to physically walk into a doctor's chamber. It means, reaching out to a global audience." nGlobally, digital health funding has hit around $6 billion this year, according to venture capital database CBinsights. Closer home, Practo raised $90 million in Series C funding round last year - led by Tencent, Sofina and Sequoia Capital, while Lybrate raised around $10 million from investors such as Tiger Global, Ratan Tata and Nexus Venture Partners. Ranieri says Leicester's priority will Ben Stokes eyeing return against be to avoid relegation next season

Claudio Ranieri ANI London, May 25 : Despite being crowned as the Premier League champions, Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has said that avoiding relegation will remain his top priority in the next season.

Leicester finished the season ten points clear at the top after claiming a 3-1 win over Everton at the King Power Stadium earlier this month. Ranieri believes it would be quite difficult for his side to defend the title next season, especially

because of the arrival of top managers like Antonio Conte at Chelsea, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and with Jose Mourinho likely to be appointed as Manchester United's manager, the Mirror reported. The Foxes boss insisted that his side would still remain underdogs, and called on his side to maintain a right attitude in the next season. Leicester, who escaped relegation in the 20142015 season and started the previous season as 5000-1 outsiders, overcame their underdogs tag by winning the title in what could be termed as one of the most remarkable seasons of the football history.

Gillespie pours cold water on Australia bowling coach role ANI Melbourne, May.25 : Former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie has outrightly dismissed mounting reports linking him to the role of full-time fast bowling coach in the national team. Gillespie said that he has neither spoken to Cricket Australia nor he intends to apply for the role, insisting that he was happy with his current position at Yorkshire and the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, news.com.au reported. Earlier in the day, reports started surfacing that discussions about bringing the former pacer in the national team have been going at an 'advanced level'. Australia, the top-ranked Test side, have been without a full-time bowling coach since the departure of Craig McDermott following the conclusion of the World Twenty20 last month.

Jason Gillespie Gillespie, who has taken 259 wickets in his 71 Tests for Australia, is currently coaching England's domestic club Yorkshire and is hoping to guide his side to a third consecutive county championships. Last month, Australia head coach Darren Lehmann had suggested that his former teammate would certainly be at the forefront with other bowling coaches for

the vacant position. Currently, South African fast bowling legend Allan Donald occupies the post on an interim basis until the end of Australia's tour to Sri Lanka. However, reports also suggested that his tenure could be extended to accommodate Gillespie's prior commitment to Yorkshire and a potential BBL deal with the Adelaide Strikers.

LITTLE SCIENTIST Kaleidoscope Project

Make Your Own Kaleidoscope What you'll need: 3 pieces of mirrored perspex A roll of duct tape or masking tape Overhead transparency paper Colored see-through plastic A pencil Instructions: Take 3 pieces of mirrored perspex and tape them together to form a triangle shape. Make sure it is solid and the tape is on the outside of the triangle. Trace around the small triangle at the end of the kaleidoscope onto the overhead transparency paper (add another 1cm all the way around the triangle to allow for folding). Place the transparency paper onto the end of the kaleidoscope and cut slits at the corners so the edges can be folded down. Tape the transparency paper into place. Draw another triangle, making this 2cm bigger than the last. Decide what kind of colored see-through plastic you would like to put inside your kaleidoscope. Cut out small pieces that will sit on top of the transparency paper. Put the colored plastic over the end of the kaleidoscope that has the transparency paper, and on top of that add the other (slightly bigger) triangle transparency paper. Tape the second triangle down on top so that there is still just enough room for the plastic to move between the two transparencies. When your kaleidoscope is finished feel free to design and decorate a cover using cardboard, felt pens, glitter, tubing or anything else you want to use.
