4.7-intensity quake hits Assam Guwahati, Oct 24: A medium intensity earthquake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale, today hit Assam. According to National Center of Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the quake hit the Dhubri region of Assam at 9.27 pm at a depth of 10 km. However, there were no immediate reports of loss of life or property. The north-east region is known to be a high-seismic zone.

Manipur Chief Minister (CM) Okram Ibobi Singh on Monday escaped unhurt when suspected militants opened gunfire as he was getting out of his helicopter at the Ukhrul helipad, CID officials said. A jawan of the Manipur Rifles was injured in the firing which took place when the CM stepped out of the helicopter and was being greeted by government officials, the officials said. The CM's helicopter immediately took off and left for Chingai but could not land
at the remote village due to protests, the official said. The CM then cancelled his programmes and flew back to the state capital where he called an emergency cabinet meeting, the source said.

In view of the seven days strike called by the All Arunachal Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (AASSATA), administrative officers and officials under the establishment of the Deputy Commissioner ItanagarCapital Complex today paid a surprise inspection to various schools of the Capital Complex. During the visit, some schools were found to be completely closed, to which the DC informed that stern action will be taken against the erring headmasters. The DC had earlier stressed
that such illegal strike of the SSA, ATA and RMSA teachers’ associations would affect the education of the students and therefore directed the officials to visit the school to ensure that the teachers are performing their duties and action could be initiated against the nonperforming teachers.
