For the last 14 years, Bill Williams has spent his every lunch hour, five days a week, delivering hot meals to the sick and elderly of Etobicoke.

At 92 years young, his boundless energy and dedication serve as an inspiration to both his fellow Canadian Red Cross volunteer drivers, and to the Meals on Wheels clients to whom he serves hot lunches with a smile.

"When my wife passed away, I didn’t want to sit around and look at four walls, so I decided to get into something to help out in the community - and the Red Cross came to mind. I’ve been here ever since," he said this week at the organization’s Dixon Road offices.

TAMARA SHEPHARD tshephard@insidetoronto.com John Adams’ creative career evolved from the advertising world of persuasion to the visual artist’s world of interpretation.

A former creative director of an international advertising agency, Adams traded his pen and computer for a paintbrush and long rides with his wife to Newfoundland, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, upper New York state, and even to Collingwood and Peterborough.

"My wife sits on the back of my motorcycle and takes pictures," Adams said of the inspiration for his acrylic landscape paintings. "We look at the landscape and the environment and stop at what catches our attention. Then I go back to the studio and at-

tempt to paint it, and try to capture the feeling that made us stop in the first place."

This April, Adams will join 32 other artists, eight showing for the first time, at Kingsway-Lambton United Church’s 20th annual Art Show and Sale, For Goodness’ Sake.

It takes place April 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the circa-1936 church at 85 The Kingsway.

The church donates a percentage of proceeds from the show’s art sales to one of 28 charities in Etobicoke, Toronto and throughout Ontario.

Admission is $10.

"I’ve been really lucky.

There are a lot of really great artists at the show," said Adams, who lives in downtown Toronto. "It’s really rewarding. Really terrific people sell some of

This year’s show features more than 500 pieces of art, including landscapes, traditional, still

life, abstract and contemporary paintings, as well as ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, metal sculptures and glass works.

Adams is a part-time Seneca College professor who teaches advertising copywriting. He has won

hundreds of arts awards; he has been featured in U.S. artist magazines for his acrylic paintings of landscapes, old cars, figures and buildings - some as large as 40 inches by 60 inches.

"Interpretative landscape" is how one Oakville, Ont. show curator described Adams’ paintings.

In 1997, KingswayLambton United Church’s art show and sale began with 12 artists as a way for the church to fund its outreach charities.

It has grown every year since.

More than 850 people attend every year.

Every year, Jane Merrick, who founded the show with Ona Humphreys and Marjorie Paradine, travels with three other women from the church to meet and invite artists to partici-

pate. The McMichael Art Gallery, Headwaters Arts Festival, the Distillery District in downtown Toronto and the Artist Project are among their art stops.

"We feel we give Canadian artists a good boost," Merrick said of the two-decade-long show. "We have high-calibre artists. It’s a win-win situation. The artists get something, and we do, too."

Participating artists show as many as 19 pieces of their work at booths in five rooms of the church.

This year’s door prize is "Ontario Farm," a 24 inch by 30 inch acrylic on canvas by this year’s featured artist, Michele Rose. The winner will be chosen at the show at 3:45 p.m. on April 1.

Church’s art sale ’win-win’ for charities, artists

A tale of two bells CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com The plot has thickened in the mysterious disappearance of the Richview school bell.

Earlier this month, Etobicoke Centre Trustee Chris Glover issued a $100 reward for information leading to the recovery of the lost, circa 1800s school bell - a bounty that has since paid some dividends.

"The day the report came out, I got a text from a constituent who said, ’So I hear you’re looking for a bell,’" Glover said of the "buzz" created by a story in the March 9 edition of the Etobicoke Guardian, detailing his years-long search for the elusive bell.

"We’ve since received two tips from two different people telling us the same thing - that it’s actu-

ally a tale of two bells."

It was through investigating those tips, Glover said, that he came to learn that the Richview school’s original steeple - which for years housed the now-missing bell - was gifted to the last principal of the circa-1915 Richview schoolhouse upon his retirement.

Hopeful he’d finally tracked down the bell, Glover reached out to the late principal’s widow, only to find out that the original bell was not part of that retirement gift - and that the bell on display in the backyard of the Etobicoke couple’s home was a replica.

The original bell, he further learned, was mounted in the courtyard of the last of five incarnations of the Eglinton Avenue West and Martin Grove Road area school Richview Public School on Clement Road - which was built in 1963

the bell. He is also working with the facilities department to track down former employees of the school who might have some information about the bell’s whereabouts.

"Somebody, somewhere must know where it is. My $100 (reward) is still unclaimed at this point, but I would love for someone to claim it," Glover added.

"This is a mystery that’s been bothering me for years now and I’d love to solve it."

Should the bell be returned, Glover would like to display it in a local school as an artifact "to show kids they’re part of a long history of public education in the neighbourhood."

"The constituent I talked to told me that the last time he saw the bell was when they were closing the school in 1981," Glover said.

"He was in Grade 8 at the time, and all the classes went back for a closing ceremony. He said he knows the bell was in the courtyard at that time, but that’s the last he heard of it."

The bell, Glover added, was nowhere to be found when the TDSB sold Richview School in 2014 to the French Catholic school board, which ultimately demolished the building and replaced it with the new École élémentaire catholique Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

"So, now we know that it disappeared sometime between 1981 and 2014," Glover said, noting that he’s been in contact with officials from the TDSB’s archives to search for

America’s tourism loss could be our gain It comes as no surprise that Donald Trump’s travel ban - now stalled by the American judiciary, again - has resulted in a chill on prospective travel from the seven nations named in the ban. After all, Trump himself referred to it as a "Muslim ban" during his election campaign.

But the chill isn’t limited to those countries. An Australian travel magazine - Traveller - recently carried the headline "Think twice about visiting America if you don’t want the Mem Fox treatment," referring to an author who has sworn she will never return to the United States after being detained and questioned on her way to a literary conference.

A British survey taken in February found about 30 per cent of respondents were less likely to visit the country now that Trump is in power. And Britons make up the third largest number of foreign visitors to the U.S., after Canadians and Mexicans. British travel bookings to the U.S. are down year over year, although travel experts point out that is also related to a strong American dollar.

The official marketing organization of New York, NYC & Company, says it expects 300,000 fewer international visitors in 2017, due to "travel ban related rhetoric." Tourism Economics, a U.S. firm that crunches numbers for airline and travel booking websites, projects that by the end of next year America will have lost 6.3 million visits, which translates into US$10.8 billion in spending.

And Canada? Toronto’s Comfort Tours typically takes between 200 and 300 tourists to New York during March break. This year, 11 people signed up, the company owner said. Halifax travel consultant Bob Sime said in a media interview: "... what I hear from the hoteliers and car rental companies, and so forth, is that in traditional snowbird destinations, the winter destinations for Canada, you’ve got about a 13 to a 15 per cent drop in figures to date."

Canada’s Girl Guides has announced it won’t travel to the U.S. Other organizations are expected to follow suit.

Again, it’s not all Trump. The American dollar is a factor too, which is why more and more Canadians are finding other warm locales where their dollars go further. One country benefitting, ironically, is Mexico, so frequently a Trump target.

That’s the thing. America’s tourism loss can be a gain for competing destinations. Trump’s unwelcoming America could be a welcome boost for Canadian tourism.

Marching behind the Scarborough subway Well, that’s that. Scarborough’s marching behind its subway.

Next week, Mayor John Tory expects "war" - again as the subway, that express tunnel to one of the grandest shopping malls in Eastern Greater Toronto, returns to Toronto Council.

There, it faces people who, on a Monday, would say it isn’t Monday, the mayor told people at a Scarborough meeting this month.

Presumably, these people would call $3.35 billion too much for one subway stop. But the mayor says he can stop such quibbles, once and for all, if Scarborough helps.

subway. Now, it’s behind the mayor’s "bold vision."

Of course, the mayor’s vision is more than the subway. There’s SmartTrack, and also that 17-stop Eglinton East LRT line.

The subway ate the LRT’s budget, sure, but the mayor says we’ll find a way, somehow, to build both.

In Scarborough, he told his troops the LRT will not only go to UTSC but, "we hope, beyond" to Malvern Town Centre. Scarborough councillors Glenn De Baeremaeker and Neethan Shan say the same.

The city already needs federal funds for a relief line subway, and a waterfront LRT, but who says we must choose?

The first reason for the Scarborough Subway is to shave minutes off trips

downtown. The second is pride.

Scarborough’s been stiffed, denied prosperity only the subway can give.

Not having that tunnel to the mall, the mayor says, "keeps us from feeling like a family."

The cost is huge, but who cares? It may be a boondoggle, but what isn’t?

Aren’t they going to build that rail deck park downtown? Somewhere, there’s money.

Politicians make promises. Those promises aren’t lies, exactly. Over time, they fade, and you forget who made them.

For now, all of Scarborough’s eggs are in one basket.

To the editor: Re: ’Lord Stanley’s cup lands in Sandy Lake First Nation’ Feb. 16 Thirty years ago I began my teaching career in Sandy Lake. I was thrilled to read about the Stanley Cup visiting that community.

I was even happier to learn about the donation of hockey equipment to the young people. When I was there no one was skating or playing hockey.

Recognizing Sandy Lake and giving the kids an opportunity to participate in sports, provides the people with a much needed activity and hope about what may be possible.

Scarborough needs a subway, reader writes To the editor: Re: ’A bad Scarborough subway idea is only getting worse’, March 2.

To all of the Scarborough Subway Plan opponents, we all know that a growing body needs strong, clean arteries to function and grow to its full potential.

Scarborough is not different.

You have look no further than the population growth, the future generations’ transit needs, the real estate dynamics.

Clearly, it is a future-oriented project that we should start in the present and forget the failed attempts in the past.

People won’t benefit from one-stop subway extension To the editor: I’ve been opposed to a one-stop subway since the beginning. There are many Scarborough residents who will not benefit from a subway stop at Scarborough Centre as compared

with their present stops at Eglinton, Lawrence, and Midland.

Example: You are on the subway at Kennedy: destination Markham Rd/Lawrence Ave. Now you can leave the subway at Kennedy, and take two buses to your destination. Or you can take the Scarborough RT to Scarborough Centre, then take two buses to your destination. The time required is similar, 25 to 30 minutes, during mid-day.

Or you can take the RT to Lawrence Station, then one bus to your destination.

This route saves only about five minutes, but avoids an extra transfer in the weather, and waiting.

When the one-stop subway is built, will you have to wait for two buses?

Other areas that may not be well-served by the one-stop are Lawrence/ Kennedy/Midland (now many destinations within walking distance of Law-

rence Station), Ellesmere/ Kennedy/Midland (walking distance), Lawrence/ Scarborough Golf Club Road (now one bus from Lawrence Station). The list could go on.

Many Scarborough residents living between St. Clair and Ellesmere will not benefit from a one-stop subway. A multi-station light rail system would bring them more conveniently to their destination.

Reader grateful for act of kindness at restaurant To the editor: Although much of what we hear and see in the media is negative, there are many good acts that people perform that go unreported.

I would like to report

one such act of kindness.

On Friday, Feb. 24, seven seniors were having dinner in Sammy’s Restaurant, on McCowan Road. Surprisingly, when the waitress brought our bills she told us that another couple in the restaurant had paid for our dinners.

As they were no longer in the restaurant, we were unable to thank them.

Maybe they will see this letter and know that we were truly grateful and we will "pay it forward".

Schedulers help keep TTC on the move Team’s goal is to provide optimum service for riders RAHUL GUPTA rgupta@insidetoronto.com It’s been a long time since someone complained to Scott Haskell about an overly large number of TTC buses.

"People would run up and shake their fist in my face," said Haskell, head of the TTC’s service planning department who has a history with the transit commission running well back into the 1990s. "They’d ask me what I would say if and when a bus ran over their child. That was the time it was."

Fast forward to 2017, and one could strongly argue dependence on public transit has never been higher.

That makes for a lot of work for Haskell and his colleagues in Strategy and Service Planning.

Earlier this year, Metroland Media Toronto had the opportunity to learn how service levels are determined by the TTC. From a nondescript office tower in North York, the quartet of Haskell, Daisy Chan, Eric Chu and Laurence Lui co-ordinates every TTC service: buses, streetcars, subway trains.

The team is ultimately responsible for calculating based on demand what routes should receive more

service, introducing new schedules every six weeks, and which should be cut, as well as making planning recommendations for elected officials to consider, or not.

"I don’t think people realize how much service the TTC runs," said Haskell.

"You can walk out to a bus stop and there will be a bus there within 10 minutes most times of the day all day long. There’s hardly a transit agency in North America with that level of service."

Broadly speaking, the team’s goal is to improve service as much as possible to get hundreds of millions of riders moving as smoothly as possible. That means determining minimum service standards, anything from acceptable crowding standards for bus use during rush hour, to whether a community could benefit from more service depending on what transit already exists in the area, and how nearby it is.

"We weigh all (of the factors) together and if it comes out that overall customers will benefit from a route change, we’ll recommend it," said Chu. Certain factors are weightier than others: transferring to another route has long been considered onerous compared to travel contained to one vehicle, even if it takes longer.

But the weighing of it can change based on customer feedback, said Lui. "The transfer penalty is

Humber River Hospital: investing in exceptional care... for a healthier community Humber River Hospital (HRH) is delighted to announce to our community that the hospital’s 2017/2018 budget has been finalized. Not only does our 2017/2018 budget place HRH in a balanced position, it does so while allowing us to make significant new investments in front line care to further enhance the exceptional care delivered every day by your hospital team! Here are some highlights: • An additional Patient Flow Coordinator in the Emergency Department seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to help reduce wait times even further by expediting the flow of patients through the Emergency process. (This will build on great work already done in this area by the Emergency team – Humber is currently ranked number 2 in Ontario under the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s overall Pay for Results criteria).

• One additional RN or RPN on each of the medical units during the busy time of day, bringing our nurse/patient ratio down to 1:4. All in all, an extra 19 full-time nursing staff positions will be created in the 2017/2018 budget for the medical units.

• The Surgical Program will be open one additional operating room, and one additional cystoscopy suite to provide an additional 7,492 procedures in 2017/2018.

On November 1, 2013, Expert Mortgage launched the “85Alive”program in Ontario. The concept was simple: as long as you had a pulse, Expert Mortgage would provide you with a home equity loan, up to 85 percent of the value of your property. No job required. Bad credit, OK. The reason why Expert Mortgage could offer a “no questions asked” lending program, while the major banks could not, is that they represent over 200 private lenders who lend strictly on property value. These subprime lenders specialize in mortgage clients who have had some bad luck, and need a helping hand until they get back on their feet.

The program has been so successful that Expert Mortgage can barely keep up with the volume of calls. To help fund this unexpectedly large number of borrowers, it has partnered up with dozens more private lenders.

Licensed Mortgage Agent Puneet Garg, Expert Mortgage’s “85-Alive” representative for the GTA Region, says, “We’re seeing mostly homeowners behind on mortgage and property taxes. The banks are refusing to restructure their loans. Many of these people have lost jobs due to the bad economy... or they’re self-employed. Unless you are a perfect applicant, the bank doesn’t want to talk to you.”

But not everyone condones Expert Mortgage’s easy lending criteria. A local real estate agent with 25 years of experience, who has asked to remain anonymous, says, “When this market turns down, it’s going to get ugly!

It’s utter financial suicide for Expert Mortgage to be giving money away so easily to clients without the ability to make payments. I’d be surprised if they’re still in business five years from now.”

Nonetheless, homeowners

like Anita P. don’t see a problem with the program. When questioned on how she plans on making payments on her mortgage when she has no income, Anita responds, “We were four months behind on our mortgage and they saved our house. My husband has been unemployed for nine months. He won’t be unemployed forever. We used the 85-Alive loan to pay off all our debt. We also had $25,000 left over that we put in the bank for emergencies.

And to make life easy, they worked it out so we have no mortgage payments for 12 months.”

Connect Hearing, with a leading hearing researcher at Ryerson University, seeks participants for a hearing study investigating the factors that can influence better hearing. All participants will have a hearing test provided at no charge. The data collected from this study will be used to further our understanding of hearing loss and improve life-changing hearing healthcare across Canada.

Deep inside our ears are several thousand microscopic “hair cells.” These cells are arranged in rows and each cell is responsible for hearing a specific pitch, similar to the keys on a piano. As we age, some of these cells become damaged… from loud noises, chronic conditions, or the process of aging itself. Just like a piano with damaged keys, an ear with damaged hair cells will make things sound muffled and distorted.

The town’s historical advisory committee gave Worsley Elementary Grade 7 and 8 students a history of the community on March 7, featuring photos and artifacts representing the arrival of the first Europeans to the shores of Nottawasaga Bay, up to the town’s heyday of the 1950s and ’60s "We think the kids should really learn about the history of our town.

They know the War of 1812 (and the story of the Nancy) because it’s in the curriculum but nothing about how the town started," said committee vice-chairperson Lindsay Neale. "There was logging, the fishery, a caviar industry, there were huge grand hotels that they know nothing about."

The presentation was a first in a local school for the

committee. Neale said the committee hopes to visit other schools in town, and has plans to host local history awareness nights later in the year for adults and children.

Committee member Art Dyer has been collecting pieces of Wasaga’s past for most of his life, and his family built Nancy Villa and the Sante Fe Motel.

He has many of the pieces on display at the motel, and his collection includes a lifeguard tower that was once on the beach, and a gorilla figure from the ’ghost town’ attraction.

"People have to learn what this place is all about," Dyer said. "The majority of people don’t really have a clue, people have to see where all of this came from."

Neale has only lived fulltime in Wasaga Beach for the last four years but two generations of her family made a point of spending their summers at the

"I have a great affinity for the town. I’m so pro-Wasaga Beach - I just feel it’s the place to be," she said.

Local publisher Joe Bickerstaff shared his col-

lection of photos documenting the history of the Beach, notably some of the historic hotels and attractions that once fronted the beachfront.

"Wasaga Beach has a

great history. I’ve been a great lover of Wasaga Beach. I’m a born and raised Torontonian but I was lucky enough to spend all my summers at Wasaga Beach," Bickerstaff said.

Bickerstaff said he discovered Wasaga Beach during its glory years of the 1960s through 1980s, and is confident the town can recapture that magic.

"I’m a believer that knowing the past of a community helps when you’re looking forward to the future of the community," he said. "I believe we have some great stuff coming to Wasaga Beach and we’re going to get those glory years back."

The historical society is now accepting nominations for the second annual historical awards, which are designed to honour individuals and organizations who have contributed to the history of the town, or recognize locations of historical significance.

Deadline to submit a nomination is April 1, and presentations will be made during the town’s annual recognition ceremony in May. Nomination forms are available at town hall.

Laura Cowan, manager of the Canadian Red Cross Meals on Wheels program in Etobicoke, called volunteers like Williams the "backbone" of the 30-yearold operation, which currently serves more than 200 clients all across Etobicoke.

"We totally rely on our volunteers. I can’t emphasize enough how important our volunteers are," Cowan said Monday, March 20 the first day of the Red Cross’s March for Meals Champions Week celebration. "We could never, ever, ever deliver a program like this without our volunteers."

Williams is just one of Cowan’s roster of about 120 Red Cross volunteers in Etobicoke being touted this month in honour of March for Meals - an annual, international initiative that highlights the importance of Meals on Wheels.

The not-for-profit program - which serves seniors and individuals recovering from illness or injury - offers clients the convenience of having nutritious meals (consisting of a soup, entree and dessert) delivered to their door for just $7.35.

The program also prevents social isolation by having volunteers provide wellness checks upon lunch delivery, Cowan said.

On Monday, Williams had a special guest tag along on one of his regular delivery routes in Etobicoke-Lakeshore - Ward 6 Coun. Mark Grimes.

"I’ve represented this area since 2003, and I knew about the Meals on Wheels program, but I had no idea the level of volunteers it takes to make this program run every day until today.

It’s just incredible the hours these volunteers put in to make it all run behind the scenes," Grimes said.

The pair’s first delivery of the day was to the south Etobicoke apartment Jessie Kitcher, whose son first signed her up for Meals on Wheels after an extended hospital stay.

Kitcher said she looks forward to receiving her Meals on Wheels delivery five days a week. "(The menu) is a surprise all the time, but it’s always pretty good, I’ll tell you," she said of her Meals on Wheels lunches, which on Monday consisted of vegetable soup, a green salad, a roll, pork chops and apple sauce, quinoa, green

Silverthorn CI student is athlete of the month Erik Galipeau, 16, earns medal from World Indoor Bowls Council’s U25 World Championships in Glasgow Erik Galipeau is a 16year-old born and raised Etobicoke resident. He is currently a Grade 10 student at Silverthorn Collegiate Institute who plays for the West Mall Lightning AA hockey team, but he also excels in lawn bowling.

An article written in The Etobicoke Guardian inviting kids to come out and play bowls at the Etobicoke Lawn Bowling Club captured the interest of Erik four years ago. The club was soliciting young players to join and participate in the 2014 Canadian junior national championships.

Erik went to the open house and fell in love with the sport right after his first bowl.

That first season at the club, Erik played lots of bowls and received great instruction from some of the best in-house players, as well as current and former national team members.

The 2015 season was the start of Erik’s rise to prominence in Ontario’s youth bowls. He finished the year winning the 2015 Earl Mayer Youth Bowler of the Year.

Erik was also a member of the District 10 men’s triples championship team, who competed in the provincial championship just outside of Ottawa.

Erik credits his quick rise to success to the amazing players who provided him with expert coaching and advice.

In 2016, Erik finished third in the junior provincials and fifth in the junior nationals. Erik also participated in the provincial championship as his district champion in men’s singles, men’s triples, men’s fours and men’s novices. In men’s novices, he brought home a bronze medal. All this success during the season helped Erik secure sponsorships with a local short mat bowls club, JJ Mat; an industry supplier, Perky Bowls out of Vancouver; and a local charity and food bank, Haven on the Q. The 2016 season ended with Erik representing Canada in the World Indoor Bowls Council’s U25 world championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

At the age of 15, the trip was positioned as a learning experience for Erik and a chance to get some exposure to an international bowls level. Erik participated in the singles and mixed triples event, where he was teamed up with Dominic McVittie from England and another 15-year-old, Rebecca Houston, from Scotland.

The three teammates played flawlessly throughout the competition, re-

maining undefeated and ending the finals with a convincing straight set to bring home a world championship to Canada.

"Winning in Scotland was the most incredible experience. I have so many people to thank that have helped me. Getting a taste of winning only makes me want to work harder, represent Canada, and win more championships," Erik said.

The win was the third world championship won by a Canadian, and the first in over 10 years. Erik was also the youngest male to ever win at a World Indoor U25 event.

"Indoor lawn bowling is a sport that flies under the radar, but I think Erik has the potential to bring it into the limelight if he keeps on winning. He’s a natural athlete and has a wonderful personality," said Joanne Noble, chair of the board of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame.

Bishop Allen defeats Michael Power to win championship The Bishop Allen Academy varsity girls hockey team has defended their Toronto District College Athletic Association title.

The team won the game on March 3 with a 2-1 victory over Michael PowerSt. Joseph High School at the MasterCard Centre.

The teams faced each other for the third year in a row in the championship.

Bishop Allen defended their goal and kept the score at zero until Emma Catalano from Michael Power scored just before the third period.

Rookie Sinead McKinnon then scored to tie the game up.

With just a minute left in the game, Claire Dalton scored the game winner for Bishop Allen.

This win continues the season for Bishop Allen.

Student overcomes concussion to earn national award

The application process required several writing components outlining Finlayson’s background, love of teaching and involvement of French in her future career.

"To apply and be chosen while working through the concussion is something I’m really proud of accomplishing," Finlayson said

in a Brock University press release. "I didn’t know if I was going to be able to get my application in on time because of the headaches I was experiencing and other symptoms."

The $7,000 national bursary - one of only three awarded - will support her tuition costs, with a portion set aside to aide in future travel to France.

Finlayson, who rejoined Brock’s varsity hockey team last November, hopes to teach children about the benefits of studying another language and share her passion for French.

She credits the support of her teammates, coaches, family and friends for making her return possible.

Etobicoke native Alex Finlayson, a third-year student in Brock University’s Concurrent Teacher Education Program, overcame a concussion to earn a national grant.

The athlete of the year for Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School in 2013, Finlayson suffered a serious concussion during a hockey game in late 2015 and began a long road to recovery.

Though she experienced headaches, memory loss and difficulty concentrating, she continued her goal of becoming a Frenchlanguage educator.

Spring blossomed at one long-term care home in Etobicoke this week, thanks to the donation of hundreds of plants from Canada’s largest flower and garden festival.

On Tuesday, Canada Blooms helped bring a little taste of spring to the lives of Kipling Acres residents

with a delivery of more than 600 colourful flowers, plants and bulbs.

"I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to carry on this tradition for a full decade," Canada Blooms General Manager Terry Caddo said in a statement, noting that 2017 marks the tenth year the festival has

brought the joy of spring to a City of Toronto long-term care home.

Some of the plants will shared with clients of Kipling Acres’ adult day program and clients of the Kendleton Drive Supportive Housing site.

Transport Canada has announced new flying restrictions for recreational drone users that limit when and where it’s legal to fly.

The new rules force recreational drone operators to mark their drone with up-to-date contact information and mean they may not
