Indian nationalist leader Mahatma Gandhi believed “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Twenty-three individuals and two organizations in Etobicoke whose community work is affecting that change were honoured Monday night at the Old Mill during The Etobicoke Guardian’s sixth annual Urban Hero Awards. The awards recognize local residents and organizations who make Etobicoke a better place to live, work and play. “It takes great character and compassion to give of oneself without expecting anything in return. And for that, you’re all heroes in our books,” said Grace Peacock, Etobicoke Guardian managing editor and awards’ night emcee.
