Pooch survives week in Etobicoke ‘wilds’ Hundreds supported search for ‘Bear’ JOANNA LAVOIE jlavoie@insidetoronto.com Bear, a rescue dog from Mexico who now calls the Beach area home, won’t soon forget her first winter in Canada.

The honey-coloured pooch had quite the adventure recently after bolting from the door of her “grandparents’” central Etobicoke home Saturday, Feb. 14 around 7 p.m.

Bear was staying with Kathy Soderlind’s parents, who live near Royal York Road and Eglinton Avenue, for the long weekend while the family was out of town on a ski trip.

“My grandparents looked for hours, but they couldn’t find Bear,” said 15-year-old Svea Soderlind, a Grade 9 student at Malvern Collegiate Institute.

“It was devastating.”

“Good food for a good cause” is the ultimate goal of a soonto-be-launched new dining series coming to Etobicoke’s Montgomery’s Inn next month.

The brainchild of Good Food For Good founder Richa Gupta, Eat 2 Feed TO is aimed at bringing the community together for a delicious, healthy meal, while also helping to improve local access to fresh produce.

“It’s dining for a purpose,” said Gupta of the bimonthly, fundraising dining series, which launches on Friday, March 6 and will see 100 per cent of its profits benefit FoodShare Toronto’s Good Food program.

“The idea behind Eat 2 Feed TO is simple – to bring together great partners, enjoy a world-cuisine inspired dinner with local food and wine, and be in a truly unique atmosphere – all this while making a difference in the community.”

Diners at the event will enjoy live musical entertainment courtesy of performers from Etobicoke’s The Music Studio, while feasting on an array of Mexican and Indian flavours. The $45 prix fixe menu for the three-course Eat 2 Feed TO dinner will include: Oaxaca arbol Mexican sliders and a coconut curry quinoa bowl for those who prefer a vegan diet; or endive chicken tacos and chicken tikka skewers for meat eaters.

The meal will also be paired with organic wine offerings from Southbrook Vineyards, and topped off with a special historical dessert prepared by Montgomery’s Inn. “The menu is very world

inspired, so everything on the menu is very exotic. It’s not spicy, but it’s all very flavourful,” said Gupta, whose Good Food For Good social enterprise business sells an assortment of fresh, organic, locally made spreads and cooking sauces – several of which will be featured in the Eat 2 Feed TO menu items.

“The whole idea is to introduce new flavours in a different way – and whatever you find on the menu, it’s the stuff that you wouldn’t find in any restaurant.” ‘tremendous boost’ As for the event’s fundraising focus, Debbie Field, executive director of FoodShare Toronto, called Gupta’s support of the non-profit organization’s Good Food Program a “tremendous boost”.

“We’re living through some pretty tough times in terms of government and foundation cutbacks, and it’s very, very hard to find the funding to move forward,” she said.

“So these types of fundraising events are so, so important to us.”

The Good Food Program, Field explained, acts essentially like a co-op in which FoodShare buys high-quality

fruits and vegetables in bulk directly from local farmers or from the Etobicoke-based Ontario Food Terminal, then turns around and sells that produce at a much-reduced cost to schools and local organizations, thanks to “bulk buying power” and subsidizing donations.

“The community’s participation in Eat 2 Feed TO will help us deliver a million servings of fresh vegetables and fruits for communities, agencies and schools across the GTA,” Field said.

Added Gupta: “I really like what FoodShare is doing because they believe in providing fresh, real food to people.”

The first in the series of Eat 2 Feed TO events will take place at Montgomery’s Inn, 4079 Dundas St. W. on Friday, March 6 from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Ukraine-Canada Coalition (UCC) will host an information event on the conflict in Ukraine Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Ukrainian National Federation at Evans and Islington avenues. “We are very friendly people, peace-loving people; this is a very new situation for us – what is going on in Ukraine,� said Olga Hareychuck, a UCC co-ordinator.

Donations will also be accepted to raise money to help the Ukrainian frontline. The coalition sends clothing and food overseas to the soldiers.

Police in 22 Division are investigating a break-and-enter at Richland Crescent and Clumber Road home on Monday in which the cremated remains of the homeowner’s mother were stolen.

Among the items stolen in the break-in was a bag containing the cremated ashes of the victim’s mother. The bag is described as blue with a drawstring at the top, and an embroidered logo for the St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium.

Inside the bag was a sealed cardboard box containing the cremated ashes.

Still progress to be made on gender equity W

ith International Women’s Day on March 8, we’re looking at what it means to be female, the relationships between men and women in the workplace and Canadian society and some of the challenges women are facing and how they differ from a century ago.

The history of International Women’s Day goes back to New York City in 1908 when women marched for shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote.

While it may seem hard to believe today, there was a time in both the United States and Canada when the right to vote did not extend to women. It wasn’t until 1919 in Canada that women were given that right. In the United States it was 1920, though some states had allowed women to vote going as far back as the late 1800s.

All of which should remind our view us that the issue of women’s rights is still a part of recent Despite gains, history and ongoing news.

Lorna Marsden, a former president and vicechancellor of York University agrees, there is still work to be done even in a society that appears equitable and tolerant such as ours. “We have made tremendous gains, but we don’t have equal pay, we are still lacking in representation of women in decision-making positions such as business and cultural,” she pointed out.

We hope the stories in today’s paper of local, inspiring women serve to get both women and men thinking more about the issue of gender equality and what needs to be done next.

Last-minute budget cuts creating nasty little mess T

he budget committee had been doing so well under the circumstances.

Its new chair, Gary Crawford, had run pleasant and accommodating meetings, absent any of the chiding nastiness and bladder-challenging standoffs with deputations.

There had been some trouble with the provincial government, and some really less-than-ideal contortions by the city’s finance department.

But it had been going so well, until the very last moments of its deliberations last week.

That was when budget committee member Michelle Berardinetti brought up some lastminute, and on the face of it, perplexing amendments.

Berardinetti moved to cut some planned staffing enhancements – from two of the city’s accountability offices, the ombudsman and the integrity commissioner, and also from the complement of planning

david nickle the city staff whose duties included helping the city deal with its backlog of heritage conservation districts.

The motions were a surprise to everyone watching and at least one of the committee members – Shelley Carroll.

She called the planning cuts in particular “a disaster.”

The eight additional planners that are no longer in the budget would have let the city work on a more aggressive schedule of assessing and establishing heritage conservation districts.

Maybe that didn’t seem like such a disaster on Friday when the motion passed.

But on Tuesday, heritage advocates begged to differ.

Currently the city has a backlog of 16 neighbourhoods that are candidates for preservation of their heritage elements, and there

are likely more that haven’t been flagged.

If the city doesn’t get going on that, then buildings and elements that reflect Toronto’s history will continue to erode – and eventually, vanish.

As Richard Longley, president of Architectural Conservancy Ontario, told the planning and growth management committee: “I see that proposal at budget committee as a kind of suicide note. I was astonished that heritage preservation, which contributes so much to so many of the values that make Toronto a city, would be cut.”

Advocates for the ombudsman and integrity commissioner have not yet had an opportunity to speak publicly – so let me take a crack at it.

Both of those offices represent crucially important checks against bureaucratic and political incompetence and malfeasance.

They were established in legislation in response to

political and administrative corruption unearthed in the Bellamy inquiry more than a decade ago.

Both offices investigated and shed light on improprieties at the last council and at a staff level that offered real consequences and remedies.

Some of those investigations had serious consequences indeed: Giorgio Mammoliti was suspended without pay for taking improper donations; former mayor Rob Ford was nearly tossed from office.

Though those cuts were in the interest of “fiscal responsibility,” the method of their delivery indicates something not quite so pure.

It is indeed a nasty little mess, that the city’s executive committee and council will either have to wear, or clean up.

The teams – some made up of high school students, local politicians and community members – participated in a two- and five-kilometre walk through Etobicoke along the Queensway. “(The participants) were having so much fun. The temperature, unlike last week, was really good – it was only minus four,” said Susan Carbone, director of development at Haven on the Queensway.

But volunteers at the walk were prepared for Mother Nature’s worst, Carbone said.

Volunteers were stationed along the walking route to clear snow with trucks and shovels.

“Can you imagine (the walk in) Newfoundland? Hello! So we were prepared,” Carbone told The Guardian.

The days are numbered for the Bay-Bloor pedestrian scramble The Bay-Bloor pedestrian scramble is one step closer to extinction thanks to the city’s public works and infrastructure committee.

The committee voted 5-1 during its meeting Monday to support a staff recommendation to get rid of the scramble at Bay Street and Bloor Street West which forces car traffic in all directions to come to a halt so pedestrians can freely cross from any side of the four-way intersection.

According to staff the negative impact on vehicle traffic is not worth the “modest” benefit to pedestrians.

Determined to do their part to help find the pooch, Whitby residents Christa and Kim Jefferson along with Tricia Cooper set up a “Help find Bear” Facebook page.

The Soderlinds have two adopted dogs from Mexico: Della, who was fostered by the Jeffersons, and Bear.

Cooper, who lives in Mexico, volunteered at the shelter both Della and Bear, “the meximutts”, were from.

Within a week, nearly 900 people joined the group to help find Bear.

The park is about two kilometres west of where Bear escaped.

Kathy Soderlind rushed over to the park and quietly waited for Bear to emerge from the brush.

Like a scene out of a movie, the exhausted and emaciated dog hobbled toward her owner, laid her head on her chest and started whimpering

and giving her kisses.

“It’s amazing how she survived,” Svea said Monday evening.

After reuniting with her family, Bear was assessed at a vet and had blood work and X-rays done. Both came back normal. The four-legged adventurer wasn’t even dehydrated.

Bear did lose about eight pounds as a result of the ordeal.

The skin on her paws is also quite damaged as a result of frostbite and she has a few spots on her face that are frostbitten.

“Otherwise she’s in great shape,” Svea said. “I can’t believe Bear survived seven days in the cold.”

The Soderlinds posted a message on the Facebook page : “Thanks to everyone for all you did. If it wasn’t for all of you we would NOT have gotten our sweet Bear home.”

Gymnasts prepare to compete on international stage in Finland said her team has risen to beyond all expectations.

“They’re gymnasts, but I want them to look like dancers. For me, the biggest compliment we received from the judges in Calgary was that both the male and female athletes looked like they had substantial dance training, so I want to maintain that,” she said, noting that all gymnasts involved are working extremely hard as a team to prepare for World Gymnaestrada.

“This is a huge undertaking for the team; many of these kids already train 14 hours a week and now they’re training for Finland on top of that. So it would be nice if all of their hard work – all the training, plus all their volunteer work fundraising – will pay off.

I’m hoping people want to support us with this crowdfunding campaign.

Toronto Gymnastics International launches crowdfunding campaign to cover $100K in travel costs CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com With 25 athletes deep in training mode preparing to represent Canada at the 2015 World Gymnaestrada event in Finland this summer, Toronto Gymnastics International (TGI) is turning to the local community to help give their gymnasts the last push they need to go the distance.

In addition to a series of ongoing fundraisers, the Etobicoke-based artistic gymnastics club just this week launched a crowdfunding campaign aimed at helping to offset the estimated $100,000 price tag ($4,000 per athlete) associated with its first overseas trip to represent Canada on the world stage.

“The team is extremely excited and super focused right now. They’ve put in months of hard work, but now they just need a little bit of extra support so they can focus more on training and less on finding the money to go,” said Lindsay Whiting, TGI’s operations manager.

“We leave in five months, so everyone’s excited and nervous, but they’re doing such an amazing job. It’s really nice to see them all coming together and supporting each other. Watching them cheer one another on has been my favourite part in all of this.”

A team of 25 gymnasts from Etobicoke-based Toronto Gymnastics International (TGI) is set to represent Canada at the 2015 World Gymnaestrada in Helsinki, Finland, this summer. To help offset the cost of the trip, TGI has undertaken a series of fundraisers and just this week launched a crowdfunding campaign to support its athletes on the world stage.

world-wide, non-competitive ‘Gymnastics for All’ event hosted every four years by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The event combines gymnastics and dance in 10-minute choreographed group routines, featuring athletes of all abilities and of both genders, aged nine and up.

50 different countries More than 21,000 participants from 50 different countries are expected to perform in this year’s event from July 12 to 18 in Helsinki, Finland, making it one of – if not the – largest gymnastics event in the world.

For the team from TGI,

which consists of 25 athletes aged 10 to 40, this year will mark their first appearance at the World Gymnaestrada event, after beating out 29 other teams to be selected as one of 15 to represent Canada at a qualifying competition held in Calgary in September 2013.

“We went to Calgary as newbies and the judges basically said to us: ‘Don’t worry if you don’t qualify your first time, just come for the experience.’ But the kids knew I wanted to go to the worlds, and they were with me on that, so they all agreed to work really hard,” said Mireille Stapleton, Team TGI’s coach and choreographer.

The routine, Stapleton explained, “explores the concept of hope against adversity and celebrates the most essential element required for human survival,” and is rooted more in dance than gymnastics – a challenge she

For 10-year-old Team TGI member Rielle Bonne, World Gymnaestrada will mark her first trip outside of Canada to compete in gymnastics.

“I think the farthest I’ve been before is Ottawa,” she laughed, noting that dad Ryan Bonne (a.k.a the Toronto Raptors’ mascot) is also on the team.

“We’ve been conditioning really hard and learning all the new choreography since November, and we’ve been doing lots of fundraising, too, because we just really want to go to Finland and perform with our team. It’s exciting because we’re representing Canada.”

New program provides emergency mortgage loans to homeowners On November 1, 2013, Expert Mortgage launched the “85-Alive” program in Ontario.

The concept was simple: as long as you had a pulse, Expert Mortgage would provide you with a home equity loan, up to 85 per cent of the value of your property. No job required. Bad credit, OK. The reason why Expert Mortgage could offer a “no questions asked” lending program, while the major banks could not, is that they represent over 200 private lenders who lend strictly on property value. These subprime lenders specialize in mortgage clients who have had some bad luck, and need a helping hand until they get back on their feet.

The program has been so successful that Expert Mortgage can barely keep up with the volume of calls. To help fund this unexpectedly large number of borrowers, it has partnered up with dozens more private lenders.

Licensed Mortgage Agent Puneet Garg, Expert Mortgage’s “85-Alive” representative for the GTA Region, says, “We’re seeing mostly homeowners behind on mortgage and property taxes. The banks are refusing to restructure their loans. Many of these people have lost jobs due to the bad economy... or they’re self-employed. Unless you are a perfect applicant, the bank doesn’t want to talk to you.”

But not everyone condones Expert Mortgage’s easy lending criteria. A local real estate agent with 25 years of experience, who has asked to remain anonymous, says, “When this market turns down, it’s going to get ugly! It’s utter financial suicide for Expert Mortgage to be giving money away so easily to clients without the ability to make payments. I’d be surprised if they’re still in business five years from now.”

Nonetheless, homeowners like Anita P. don’t see a prob-

lem with the program. When questioned on how she plans on making payments on her mortgage when she has no income, Anita responds, “We were four months behind on our mortgage and they saved our house. My husband has been unemployed for nine months. He won’t be unemployed forever. We used the 85-Alive loan to pay off all our debt. We also had $25,000 left over that we put in the bank for emergencies. And to make life easy, they worked it out so we have no mortgage payments for 12 months.”

Karstadt nabs gold at Winter Games Excelled in pommel horse, vault, parallel bars Going into the Canada Winter Games now underway in Prince George, B.C., 17-yearold Etobicoke gymnast Justin Karstadt listed three goals: gold for his Ontario men’s team, and also for himself in the all-around and pommel horse categories.

He ended up achieving that – and more.

In addition to securing the above noted gold medals, he also secured gold in vault and bronze for the parallel bars.

The Grade 12 Silverthorn Collegiate student, who is Canada’s defending allaround junior champ, has inked a scholarship with the University of Minnesota beginning in September.

Earla Alexander: A Retrospective Exhibition

EDGE: Youth Art Show Arts Etobicoke is pleased to present EDGE: Youth Art Show for the 18th year in a row.

The exhibition showcases artwork from secondary school students (grades 9-12) and young people (14-18 years) in TDSB & TCDSB schools & agencies across the GTA. This free 9 day exhibition of student artwork is non juried and has over 80 high school students & youth from across the GTA participating. EDGE: Youth Art Show is a great opportunity for youth to experience exhibiting in a professional art gallery, to meet their peers, and to connect with our learning centre, working artists and arts communities.

We’re celebrating 18 years of student achievement in the visual arts with a sharpened focus on arts education!

ALL participating schools will receive a small scholarship to be used toward enriching their arts education departments. Participating students and teachers are invited to attend a a symposium that includes workshops, and critiques led by professional artists. The symposium inspires a sense of possibility and a future in the arts and includes explorations into creating community through art, the creative process, and careers in the arts.

Digital Photography for Adults and Seniors

“What surrounds me; an extension of me” Arts Etobicoke is presenting its next FREE Saturday Art Class with facilitator, Katherine Fleitas, “Digital Photography for Adults and Seniors”.

Artists will be led in investigating objects and spaces in their community that they feel a connection with and focus on the needs and value of these objects through the workshops. They will produce large portraits of themselves and small prints of the objects that are valued in their lives.

rts Etobicoke is pleased to present a Retrospective Exhibition of Earla Alexander's paintings and sculpture. Earla Alexander passed away on September 28, 2014.

She was a pioneering artist, teacher, mentor, a loyal and passionate supporter of Arts

Etobicoke and one of the City of Toronto's Cultural Champions. One of Toronto’s local artists riding the wave of Abstract Expressionism, Earla experimented with all that it had to offer working on large-scale canvases, using her body movement to create grand gestures in paint. Our gallery will feature a selection of the artwork she has donated to Arts Etobicoke dating from 1964 to her recent works from 2012.

The goal of this art class is to develop a comprehensive, inter-generational photography exhibit for the CONTACT photography festival from May to July in the storefront gallery at Arts Etobicoke. This exhibit will be distinctive as it will not only include the work of the adults and seniors’ photography class, but also the creations from our youth art drop in class, where Fleitas will act as a guest artist.

This unique artistic partnership will give a perspective from each generation, as well as inform and grow a bond between Etobicoke youth and seniors.

The program is supported by The Johansen-Larsen Foundation.

efore Scarborough native Jill Andrew became known for giving empowering speeches to young women about selfesteem and before she provoked deep conservations about female body image and female representation in the media, she was just Jill: a curvy woman with her own set of insecurities and hardships she had to overcome.

“As a child I was sexually abused. I was a victim and a survivor of that,” she said.

“One of the first things that I had to get over is that I had done nothing wrong. That’s a huge part of it. It doesn’t matter what poster you read or what PSA (public service announcement) comes on, you oftentimes sit with this feeling of what did I do? Was it the way I was dressed? What did I say to egg the person on or entice them?”

After years of therapy and support Andrew accepted that what happened wasn’t her fault.

“Your body is not to blame, your person is not to blame and that these are bigger issues than an individual thing.

These are systems that we’re living with where men predominantly feel as though they have ownership over women’s

bodies,” she explained.

“Looking back over my years now, I started to realize I had to take ownership of me and that’s all I can take ownership for; not somebody else’s wrongdoings because that’s how we grow.”

It’s that same self-ownership Andrew lectures about in her keynote speeches at conferences on university campuses across Toronto.

Her acceptance of what happened to her and her own body image led her to become founder of the Body Confidence Canada Awards, the Curvy Catwalk Fashion Fundraiser and co-founder of FatinTheCity.com, a plus-size fashion “fatshion” blog. She also doubles as a body image consultant and works for the Toronto District School Board as a student equity program advisor.

There she helps plan conferences, events, workshops and opportunities for children to learn and connect with each other and also help shift their perception of gender roles, what women are capable of achieving and self-esteem.

“There’s this idea that we (women) should be thankful that we should be at the table. No. We need to be the people forming the table and bringing the ideas to the table and finding people to help us push our ideas forward. A lot

of the work that I try to do is around that,” Andrew told The Guardian.

During her speeches, Andrew focuses on the longterm negative effects on women and girls as they begin to police their bodies. Selfpolicing, according to Andrew, happens more often than women think; it’s in the form of not going out past a certain time because you could get hurt or not wearing spaghetti straps because you don’t want to be labelled a slut.

This follows girls into adulthood, she said, explaining some women mute their opinions to avoid being called “bitch in the boardroom” by the boys club.

“It’s all of this self-policing we do that doesn’t pay atten-

tion to the larger systemic issues going on that create the environment where women and girls feel like they have to censor themselves, with what they wear or their ideas,” Andrew said “(If it continues) you start to chip away at your own selfesteem and your own worth and your own knowledge and it happens to women all the time.”

Andrew believes it’s time we look at how these images affect a woman financially as well as emotionally and physically.

“The body image conversation needs to go deeper, we need to encourage women and girls to think about how a negative self-concept or negative self-worth might impact your salary. We know that women

In honour of International Women’s Day, The Guardian spoke with the busy women’s advocate to discuss the status of women.

The Guardian: How has the status of women changed since you became involved in politics?

Augustine: “There were issues like violence against women that were not spoken of, the issue of unwed mothers was not spoken of, there were issues around abortion, there were issues around sexual orientation – those are the things that were not

spoken of or did not get the front page of the papers and yet, we see that those are issues that are open today and that there is legislation and other processes to ensure that those conversations do take place.”

The Guardian: What can be said about the current status of women?

Augustine: “I think it’s important for me to say to

The mother of a fouryear-old Etobicoke boy found wandering in the frigid cold Friday without any clothes on has been charged with abandoning a child under 10.

Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said police were called to the area of Lake Shore Boulevard West and 12th Street at around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 after a neighbour found the child left unattended outside unclothed. The temperature at the time was about -15 C, but felt more like -25 C with the windchill.

Sidhu said the local resident who found the boy recognized him and attempted to knock on the door of his home.

“Nobody answered, so they called police. When officers arrived, they checked the area but were not able to locate the child’s parents or caregiver,” Sidhu said, noting that the boy was alert and able to speak with the responding officers when they arrived.

Friday’s incident come just a day after three-yearold Elijah Marsh died after wandering out of his grandmother’s North York apartment building at 4:20 a.m. Thursday as his family slept unaware.

He was dressed only in a T-shirt, pull-up diaper and boots.

Despite a massive search effort that included concerned members of the public and more than 100 police officers from Toronto, York Region and the Ontario Provincial Police, Elijah wasn’t discovered until after 10 a.m. – six hours after he first ventured out into the subzero temperatures.

He was rushed to the hospital with vital signs absent, where doctors spent hours trying to revive him. He was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m.

“We are trying to improve and clean up our air quality,” she said. “We plan on monitoring the air and to collect data from across the neighbourhood.”

Former Etobicoke Alderman and MPP Ruth Grier, a longtime champion of the environment, is worried by the air quality and large amount of high-density condos.

“The air quality has always been a big concern in this area,” Grier admitted. “We are also concerned about the over-development that is taking place without enough green space for people.”

During the Tuesday, Feb. 17 meeting, Jim McNeil, chair of the Long Branch Business Improvement Area (BIA), said $10,000 was allocated in his BIA’s budget to study the installation of plug-in stations for electric or hybrid cars. “ We were looking at installing three or four stations for customers using our stores,” McNeil recalled.

“There was a lot of interest

and we wanted to be a leader rather than a follower.”

He said the plan was put on hold after Toronto Hydro and parking officials called for studies.

“People want more creative use of our public spaces,” Parodi noted, and suggestions were made about growing food in green spaces.

Liana Franciosi, of Friends of Colonel Sam Smith Park, called for more mature trees and greenery to be planted in concrete planters that line Lake Shore Blvd. W. John Drennan, of Storefront Humber and a life-long area resident, said he is irritated by the traffic congestion that leads to air pollution.

Ideas ranging from electric car plug-in stations to citizen air monitoring and fruit trees with lush gardens being grown in Etobicoke parks were pitched by environmentalists to make the community a more greener place to live.

More than 100 south Etobicoke residents packed a recent Live Green Toronto meeting at the Mimico Centennial Library to meet neighbours, share ideas or work on projects to revive the area.

The meeting is the first of several to be held across the city with a report to be prepared for the Parks and Environment Committee.

Most residents said they were concerned about air quality in the area.

An air quality study of wards 5 and 6, from Burnhamthorpe Road south to Lake Ontario; and from Hwy. 427 east to Humber River, was conducted by city staff in 2014.

“The most significant source of concern is that of motor vehicles, in particular the emissions tied to the volume and type of motor vehicle traffic travelling Highway 427 and the Gardiner Expressway,” stated the report.

Heather Marshall, of the Toronto Environmental Alliance, displayed a small device residents are being urged to carry during their daily walks to measure air quality.

“All the air measurements can be downloaded in real-time,” Marshall said. “We want residents to carry around the devices in their area for one week at a time.”
