CELEBRATING YOUNG DREAMERS & ENTREPRENUERS
TIPS TO FINISH THIS SCHOOL YEAR STRONG
2020 VISION Setting goals for the new year
Sue's Notes
Goal setting is an important skill to master. It can serve as an accountability or disciplinary tool. It can also help with tackling challenges that you face, by making a plan to work through them. Following through with a particular goal that you set for yourself can give you a sense of achievement and even boost your confidence. Even setting a goal and not completely being successful with the follow through of your actions, can give you a sense of "I CAN DO THIS!" I have heard it said, "Nothing beats a failure but a try!" So, go ahead and get MOTIVATED! Because goal setting can create a path to success for you. It helps you to see where you are and where you want to be. This helps you to measure your progress and keeps you focused. "Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." ~Tony Robbins Challenge yourself! Set goals and prepare to conquer them...... You are you own best competition... set out to make yourself a better verse of you! That can all begin by setting goals for yourself!

Understanding SMART Goals S- SPECIFIC: Your goal has to be specific. The more specific the better.
GOAL
SETTING
M- MEASURABLE: If your goal is not measurable, how will you know if you've completed it?
A- ACTIONABLE: Your goal must be actionable, meaning that you can take action to make it come true. Figure out steps you need to take to make it come true. R- REALISTIC: Your goal must be realistic or else you won't accomplish it. This doesn't mean you can't be realistic but it has to be something you can actually do. T- TIME-LIMITED: Your goal MUST have a deadline. Choose an end date that you want to complete the goal then use your action steps to work at getting there. The easiest way to make a goal achievable is to define it clearly, make it easy to understand, and to define it with enough information so you know exactly when it’s been completed.
Using SMART goals will: give you clarity about what you want to accomplish make you think about why you’re trying to achieve each goal make you define the activities you need to complete keep you motivated by focusing on the end result make you work toward a specific deadline

REGULAR VS SMART GOALS Regular Goal: I want to be a better tennis player. SMART Goal: I want to be a better tennis player. I want to win a Level 6 Junior tennis tournament by September 1, 2020, because I want to keep improving at a pace that will get me a spot in the high school varsity tennis team.
A SMART goal can answer all these questions: Specific: What is it that I want to accomplish? Measurable: How do I know I reached my goal? Actionable: Is my goal realistic and can I take action to do it? Realistic: Is it something I am capable of doing? Time-limited: What is my deadline?

Counselor's Corner AUDREY DAVIS, 6TH GRADE COUNSELOR Almost There: Finishing the School Year Strong The first semester is over. You have done everything and now you have 2 months until the last day of school. It feels like an eternity, but in all actuality, it is not. Really, what’s left to do? Lots!!! Now is the perfect time to start preparing for whatever your next step may be.
If you are in high school, now is a great time to speak with your counselor to ensure that all of your credits are in order. Your number of credits required to move to the next grade depends on what grade you are currently in. If you are in middle school, start talking to your parents and older siblings about good electives to take to prepare for high school. Your school counselor can explain classes that may offer high school credits for you. These classes will put you ahead of the game. #GOONGIRLS MAGAZINE
Set some goals. Were your grades low during the first semester? Take this time to plan how you would like your grades to look as you finish out the school year. Are your grades a good reflection of where you want to be in life after school? If not, make a plan to change any habits that may be keeping you from where you want to go.
Finally, seek out help. If you are unsure about how to proceed, talk to a trusted adult. It can be a parent, teacher, or school counselor. Believe it or not, these adults have been where you are and can offer great insight and advice as to how to move forward.
Your middle and high school years are supposed to be exciting and fun, but they aren’t supposed to last forever. Make sure you are doing everything that you can to continue your progress and success. Remember you are almost there.

#GoOnGirls Meet Up!
What's Going On!
These sessions are an extension of the #GoOnGirls conference. They are held quarterly for Mothers and Daughters. Our first meet up for 2020 was held February 8, 2020 and it was all about SAFETY! Our girls and mothers were able to earn safety tips against human trafficking, bullying and dating violence. Mother's were able to join in a dialogue on how to have difficult conversation with our girls while our girls learned all about the power of their NO! We had a representative from our local police department to give hands on safety tips and training. #GoOnGirls mission is to equip our girls with tools that will help them navigate everyday life and situations they may face!

MIKINZIE From an early age I have always been creative. My family has told me stories about how they have been amazed by my talent. Whether designing outfits for my barbies, sketching in my sketch pads, or sewing bedazzled outfits by hand, I was always busy making a statement.
I found myself interested in design and drawing sketches of bedrooms, kitchens, and other living spaces. One Christmas my cousin bought me some professional art supplies and taught me the basics of shading, shapes, and proportions. This passion led to my love of photography and eventually painting. I also enjoy working in other mediums to include oil painting, watercolor, colored pencil, photography and ceramics. I actually did not begin to take a formal art class until I was in the 11th grade. That is when my love for painting emerged. Once I started painting I have not looked back. I have won numerous awards to include district and regional awards. I am currently a Regional Scholastic Art Award winner having won a Gold Key Award, a Silver Key Award, and Honorable Mention designations for several pieces.

My dream is to create living spaces that reflect each individual’s unique style and personality. My work seems to have an immediate impact on people. I receive compliments and requests to paint portraits. My work is tedious and it is not uncommon for me to work long hours depending on the complexity of a piece. I can honestly say that I give each piece I work on my complete and undivided attention. I would encourage all girls to follow your dreams, set aside dedicated time to set and accomplish goals, and seek the advice of subject matter experts in your area of interest. My inspiration comes from my family and my Art Teacher. My ability to truly represent a subject and bring them to life is my excitement. My future plans are to attend Mississippi State University in the fall and Major in Architecture and Design. I also aspire to own my own Architecture Firm that will

I am a licensed braider that now works in a salon - Glam Beauty Lounge. I hope to accomplish satisfying all my clients through my work. My work intends to impact and influence all age groups. Of course, school and home responsibilities come first, I normally try to schedule and book appointments on Thursday through Saturdays, I focus more on my school work the first part of the week. I give thanks to my mother and my grandmother for their support. My mother can be my toughest critic, although she encourages me daily. She has also been here for me since day one of my journey. My grandmother was my real life doll , and still is, without her half the styles I know how to do now I would not have known without her willingness to allow me to practice. The thing that excites me more than anything about my work is to see the smiles and the joy that my clients have getting out of my chair. Those nonverbal cues help me realize that they really love the styles that I performed on their head and are willing to come back. Last but not least I would like to encourage other young entrepreneurs, artists or girls with big dreams to always keep God in it all and keep pushing and never give up. Always remember there will be ups and downs, and even times when a person will be placed in a situation where they will want to give up, but at the end of the day with God all things are possible. I have mainly experienced it all, and I can truly say without God I would have not have made it this far in entrepreneurship. I would like to thank him for giving me the talents that I have today, and allowing me to use it in ways he sees fit in which I bless others. #GOONGIRLS MAGAZINE

Pearls For Girls, a non-profit organization, was established to impact young girls lives through activities and workshops that address the pressures and issues in life they encounter daily. Our organization has hosted etiquette training, vision board parties and workshops to bring enrichment, empowerment and encouragement to lives of young ladies 8-16+ years old. Our Mission is to Inspire, Motivate and Empower Young Ladies to Understand Their True Identity through the Wisdom of God! Today our girls are facing many issues, situations and challenges and society tries to create a mold that we all should fit into. During the tween, teen and young adult phase of life it can be difficult sometimes to navigate through these issues and stay the course all the while trying to figure out who they are and who they are becoming. As a Coach and Trainer, it is my passion to help young ladies become their best, authentic self through social/life skills training, etiquette training and personal discovery. It is my belief that when we know, understand and truly love who we are, then we are able to make the best decisions and choices. We offer coaching support and tools to help with decision making, goal setting and personal development. I also offer support for the parents through Moms Chat Mondays and Moms Evening Out to help mothers help your young lady make smooth transitions in her life journey! P.E.A.R.L.S. for Girls mentoring program incorporates character building, life and social skills to motivate tween, teen and young adult ladies to be their best selves. With a focus on self esteem, self value and self image. P.E.A.R.L.S. strive to inspire, motivate and encourage our girls to love themselves unconditionally. We believe that when they know, understand, and truly love who they are, then they will make better life choices and decisions. It is our hope that each young lady will know that she is fearfully and wonderfully made and live a life of true authenticity.
