Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh
Fearaim do chéad fáilte chuig réamheolaire
Ghaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. Tá sé d’aidhm ag an réamheolaire seo blaiseadh beag a thabhairt ar ár scoil, ar phobal na scoile, an timpeallacht foghlama agus na deiseanna foghlama atá sa scoil.
Tá an scoil, atá ag fás agus ag forbairt ón mbliain 2014, neadaithe go mórtasach ar an suíomh agus sna foirgnimh a raibh oideachas curtha ar fáil iontu ag mná rialta Loreto ar feadh na mblianta romhainn. Difríocht shuntasach ná gur Gaelcholáiste ilchreidmheach chomhoideachasúil muid. Seo scoil a bhfuilim chomh bródúil aisti toisc an t-oideachas den chaighdeán is airde a chuirimid ar fáil anseo. Is breá liom a bheith i mo cheannaire ar phobal atá chomh dílis don Ghaeilge, atá thar a bheith tiomnaithe, spreagtha agus dearfach.
I welcome you to the prospectus of Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. We hope that it will give you a flavour of our school, our school community, our learning environment and the learning opportunities in the school.
We have been growing and developing since 2014 while nestled on the site and in the buildings where the Loreto sisters provided education for many years. We differ insofar as we are a multidenominational co-educational Gaelcholáiste. This is a school of which I am so proud because of the high standard of education that we provide here. Being a leader of such a vibrant school community which is so passionate about the Irish language and culture, so driven, motivational and positive is both an honour and a privilege.
An Príomhoide - Joe Mac Suibhne agus
An Príomhoide Tánaisteach - Fionnuala Mhic an Bhreithimh
Dúnadh doirse Mhainistir Loreto den uair dheireanach sa bhliain 1999 agus tháinig deireadh léi mar scoil chónaithe do chailíní. Níor samhlaíodh do Choiste Bunaithe Ghaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh gur ar an suíomh ársa seo a bhfíorófaí a bhfís ach b’shin díreach a tharla sa bhliain 2014.
Ceapadh an chéad Phríomhoide, Joe Mac Suibhne agus osclaíodh seandoirse an chlochair den athuair ag deireadh Lúnasa 2014. Chuir an Príomhoide agus a fhoireann de thriúr, Fionnuala, Pádraig agus Rachel fáilte roimh 16 scoláirí idir chailíní agus bhuachaillí chuig an nGaelcholáiste nuabhunaithe, Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh.
Ba chomhtharlú iomlán gur lonnaíodh an scoil i bhfoisceacht scread asail do Scoil Éanna, scoil Phádraig Mhic Phiarais, ar ainmníodh Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh ina chuimhne agus ina onóir.
Táimid coinsiasach faoi stair an fhoirgnimh, faoi stair scoil Éanna agus faoinár stair féin ach ‘sí ár dtodhchaí agus an borradh a bheidh fúithi an gríosóir is mó atá againn.
While our focus is most definitely on the future we are conscious of our past. We are delighted to be based in a former boarding school for girls which closed its doors for the last time in 1999 when the Loreto sisters moved out.
The founding committee of Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh never imagined that their new school would be located in such a historic building but their dream came true in 2014.
The first Príomhoide, Joe Mac Suibhne, was appointed and once again the old doors of Loreto Abbey were reopened in August 2014. The reopening was significantly different as An Múinteoir Joe, accompanied by his staff of three, na Múinteoirí Fionnuala, Pádraig and Rachel, welcomed sixteen girls and boys to a newly founded Gaelcholáiste.
Coincidentally Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh is located within walking distance of Scoil Éanna, the school of Pádraig Mac Piarais, in whose honour and memory Gaelcholaiste an Phiarsaigh was named.
Is scoil chomhoideachasúil Ilchreidmheach lán-Ghaeilge é Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. I nGaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh cothaítear mórtas as ár bhféiniúlacht Ghaelach agus leagtar béim ar an iliomad gnéithe den fhéiniúlacht sin idir theanga agus cheol, spórt agus saibhreas cultúrtha.
Aithnítear dínit agus ról an uile dhuine i gcomhthéacs an phairtinéireachais oideachasúil. Chomh maith le hómós a thabhairt don Ghaeilge léirítear meas ar an uile dhuine agus déantar freastal ar a riachtanais an oiread agus is féidir. Cothaítear scileanna idirphearsanta agus cumarsáide in atmaisféar dearfach oscailte sa scoil ina múnlaítear an duine ina iomláine, go hacadúil, go morálta, go fisiciúil agus go spioradálta. Spreagtar folláine, acmhainneacht agus misneach chomh maith le bród a léiriú as gníomhaíochtaí uile na scoile. Ag díriú ar an nGaeige, ag léiriú measa agus ag déanamh iarrachta i gcónaí i ngach dá dtugaimid faoi is ea ár n-éiteas, ár n-inspioráid agus ár meon.
Our Mission Statement
Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh is a co-educational multidenominational Gaelcholáiste.
In Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh pride in our cultural heritage and in our identities as Irish speaking citizens is cultivated through the language and music, sport and awareness of our cultural wealth. We respect the dignity and role of each person in the context of educational partnership. As well as our deference to the Irish language we respect each member of our school community and do our very best to cater for their needs. We are conscious of developing interpersonal and communication skills in a positive, open atmosphere where we endeavour to deliver a holistic academic, moral, physical and spiritual education. We encourage wellbeing, resistance and courage as we take great pride in all our school activities. Focusing on the Irish language, respecting one another as we all strive to make the best possible efforts at all times and in all we do is our raison d’être.
Is í an Ghaeilge an bhunchloch ar a bunaíodh Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. Cuireadh síolta na Gaeilge in 2014 nuair a osclaíodh an scoil den chéad uair agus tá fréamhacha láidre na Gaeilge fásta ó shin agus crann na Gaeilge ag dul in airde agus i dtreise. Is í an Ghaeilge a nascann gach duine de phobal na scoile le chéile, an teanga trína ndéantar gach cumarsáid agus trína dtugtar faoin teagasc agus an fhoghlaim. Déanaimid ceiliúradh mórtasach as an nGaeilge a tugadh le hoidhreacht dúinn mar níorbh ann don scoil dá huireasa.
The Irish language is the foundation stone on which Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh was founded. The seeds of the Irish language were sown here in 2014 when we first opened our doors and she has become rooted firmly since and those roots are growing steadily and strongly every year. An Ghaeilge is what binds us together as a school community, the language in which we communicate and in which our teaching and learning happens. We proudly celebrate the language that we inherited because without the Irish language our school would not be here.

Baintear leas as iPadanna mar uirlisí luachmhara oideachasúla i nGaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. Is é MS 365 an t-ardán a mbaintear leas as sa scoil. Úsáidtear cóipleabhair fós sna ranganna ar fad chun litearthacht agus uimhearthacht a choinneáil ar ardchaighdeán sa scoil. Bíonn gach iPad ceangailte do chóras bainistíochta iPadanna na scoile agus bíonn leibhéal an-ard de chosaint ag an gcóras bainistíochta seo.
Chomh maith leis an gcosaint ó dhochar a bhíonn ar gach iPad baineann na múinteoirí úsáid as aip a dtugtar Classroom air. Bíonn ar gach scoláire a iPad a chlárú leis na múinteoirí ar fad a mbíonn sé faoina gcúraimí. Tugann Classroom an cumas don mhúinteoir iPad an scoláire a fheiceáil, é a rialú ó chian agus comhaid a sheoladh chuig scoláirí.
In ainneoin go gcreidimid i dtábhacht na teicneolaíochta ní ligtear don teicneolaíocht ceannasaíocht iomlán a ghlacadh ar an teagasc ná ar an bhfoghlaim.
iPads are devices that enhance teaching and learning in Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. IPads provide opportunities to the students to develop creative and critical thinking and being involved in both cooperative and independent learning during class. Heavy books and waste of paper are avoided. We use MS 365 as our platform. Copybooks are still used for classwork to keep literacy and numeracy to a high standard. We have firewalls and robust security systems in place as well as a technology team who deal with any queries or issues regarding the iPads.
Although it is the students’ families that buy the iPad and they remain in the ownership of the household each student iPad is subject to the school’s managament system. This system has an extremely high level of protection from harm.
Coupled with our management of the iPads each teacher uses an application called Classroom to which every student in their care must be registered. Classroom allows the teachers to view and remotely control students’ iPads as well as the ability to send files to students.

Many of our students have a flair for and a deep interest in acting, music and the arts. This can be seen in many performances, not least in our annual school musical produced by our Transition Year students. A lot of arduous work and collaboration between the students always results in a superb production.
Our school choir performs regularly during the year at school events and of course at inter-school competitions. The promotion and performing of music in the school not only enriches our cultural heritage but it also builds the students’ confidence and instils an atmosphere of which we are immensely proud.

Fáiltímid roimh scoláirí gur mhaith leo bualadh isteach orainn agus turas treoraithe a fháil timpeall na scoile ar laethanta áirithe i Mí Mheán Fómhair agus tugaimid cuireadh dóibh agus dá dtuismitheoirí/gcaomhnóirí teacht chun na scoile dár n-oíche oscailte a thionóltar de ghnáth le linn na seachtaine deireanaí i Mí Mheán Fómhair. Bíonn an deis ag gach duine ár n-aiseanna iontacha a fheiceáil agus bualadh le pobal na scoile idir fhoireann agus scoláirí.
Oscalaítear an tairseach clárúcháin ar líne ar feadh roinnt seachtainí i Mí Dheireadh Fómhair agus déantar áiteanna sa Chéad Bhliain a thairiscint i Mí na Samhna na bliana sula bhfágfaidh na scoláirí Rang 6.
Fáiltítear roimh scoláirí ó mheánscoileanna eile isteach i mbliaingrúpaí eile freisin ach iarratas a sheoladh chuig an mBord Bainistíochta agus ar ndóigh is gá go mbeadh spás againn.
Is fada linn go dtosóidh an obair athchóiríochta ar an gcuid sin den fhoirgneamh nach bhfuil in úsáid againn faoi láthair. Níl aon amhras faoi ach go mbeidh campas dochreidte againn nuair a chuirfear an obair i gcrích gan mhoill anois ó tharla go bhfuil cead pleanala faighte againn obair athchóiríochta a dhéanamh ar an bhfoirgneamh seo atá liostaithe/faoi chosaint. We love welcoming prospective students to the school on certain days in September and our students love giving them a guided tour! We then invite the students and their parents/guardians to our open night which is usually held during the last week of September. This is a terrific opportunity to see our wonderful facilities and to meet with members of our school community, staff and students.
Our online enrolment portal opens for most of the month of October and then we offer places in First Year in November of the year that the child is in Sixth Class.
We also look at applications from students who are attending other secondary schools who wish to transfer into our other year groups once we have space and that the Board of Management is satisfied that the application can proceed.
We are excited to see works commencing shortly on the old buildings to which we do not have access yet. We will undoubtedly have one of the finest campuses when the work is complete which should not be too long given that we have been granted full planning permission to carry out refurbishment works on this listed/protected structure. Check out the picture in this prospectus! ((Ref: SD22A/0153 Link: https:// planning.agileapplications.ie/southdublin/applicationdetails/62496).
