Respecting yourself and others

The first and most important thing to learn is how to respect yourself! Then it becomes very easy to respect others.

All you have to do is ask yourself this simple question:

HOW WOULD I LIK E TO BE TREATED?

THEN TREAT OTHERS IN THE SAME WAY.

Respectful Words

I treat others with respect and courtesy.

I try hard to solve problems without violence or harsh words.

I try not to hurt or embarrass anybody.

I accept some people are different to me.

I am considerate of other people’s feelings.

Sometimes it can be really difficult to do all of these things. In life, you may not like someone, but remember that you should always respect them as human beings and never hurt or harm anyone.

Mindset

Mindset is about the attitude you take to succeed, especially when it comes to your learning.

Fixed Mindset Fixed Growth Mindset

People with a fixed mindset believe they are either good at something or they are not. So, if they think they are not good at something, they won’t give it a try.

Here are some things that a pupil with a fixed mindset might say:

I’m either good at it, or I’m not.

I am not a sporty person.

I’m not creative.

I’m no good at maths.

People with a growth mindset believe that new abilities can be developed through practice. They see success as being achieved through effort, and realise that it is important to receive feedback if they are to improve.

Here are some things that a pupil with a growth mindset might say:

I can learn anything I want to.

In our school, we promote a growth mindset where:

• We celebrate making mistakes – we can learn from them.

• We never give up – we keep trying so we can succeed.

• We learn from each other.

I learn from things I get wrong.

I feel proud and inspired when I see others doing well.

• We challenge ourselves and enjoy learning new things.

• We remember that our brains are growing all the time and our intelligence grows too.

What is BULLYING?

Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things that are hurtful to someone else. Bullying comes in many forms. It can be verbal bullying, physical bullying, cyber bullying, or it can lead to people being left out.

Physical Bullying

Cyber Bullying

What to do if you’re being bullied

Are you being bullied? Or do you know somebody who's being bullied? If so, you must tell someone what is going on and how you feel. No one can help you if you don’t tell them. Please do!

Tell your parents.

3 4 1 2

Tell your Teacher. Call a helpline.

• Ignore name-calling and show the bully their comments don't affect you. A bully likes to get a reaction, so don't give them one!

• Bullies often hurt other people to make themselves feel better. They may be unhappy at home or school.

Tell someone in your family.

• Don’t hit out. You may get hurt or the bully could make it seem like you are the bully.

• They are the problemdon’t believe what they say and don’t blame yourself.

Amhrán na bhFiann

Sinne Fianna Fáil, Soldiers are we, atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn, Whose lives are pledged to Ireland, Buíon dár slua Some have come thar toinn do ráinig chughainn, From a land beyond the wave, Faoi mhóid bheith saor Sworn to be free,

Seantír ár sinsear feasta, No more our ancient sireland, Ní fhágfar faoin tíorán ná faoin tráill. Shall shelter the despot or the slave. Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil, Tonight we man the “bearna baoil”,

Le gean ar Ghaeil, chun báis nó saoil, In Erin’s cause, come woe or weal,

Le gunna scréach faoi lámhach na bpiléar, ’Mid cannons’ roar and rifles’ peal,

Seo libh canaig’ amhrán na bhfiann

We’ll chant a soldier’s song

Safety

Guidelines for Children

Always find a safe place to cross the road. At night – shine bright.

Don’t talk to or go anywhere with strangers.

Safe strangers, e.g., guards, firemen, bus drivers, etc., are there to help you when they are at work. It is safe to talk to them.

Road Safety Internet SAMPLE

Only visit sites suitable for children your age. Do not give your personal information to anyone.

If you ever feel unsafe, tell an adult you trust.

Report anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Please play with us.

Stop that. I don’t like it.

It is not telling tales to report bullying.

Good things to say to keep you and others safe

Leave him/her alone. That is not fair.

No, I don’t want to do that.

Stop, you are bullying me.
