Welcome
St. Andrew’s N.S is a co-educational primary school in the parish of Malahide, Portmarnock and St. Doulagh’s, catering for the education of children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The school was established in 1824 and the staff includes the principal, deputy principal, eight class teachers, four special education teachers, four special needs assistants, a secretary and a caretaker.
School Ethos
St.Andrew’s is a Church of Ireland school and we teach the Church of Ireland Religious Education Follow Me curriculum in all classes. We also visit St. Andrew’s church throughout the year. We also have many children in the school of different religions and no religion. Our ethos is to be inclusive and welcoming to all and our main focus would be on teaching morals and values such as kindness, friendship and looking after each other.

Home/School Links
We value the positive relationships we have with the families in our school. During the school year if you have any concerns or need to speak to us about anything please come and see us. Appointments should first be made with the class teacher. If further assistance is needed you should then contact the principal. Parent/ Teacher meetings are held once a year in November/ December. Teachers are available throughout the year to meet parents if necessary. We can provide the most successful education for the children if we all work together and support each other.
School Opening Times
The school opens at 9am for all classes. The bell rings at 9am and the children line up with their class. Infants finish school at 1.40pm and all other classes finish at 2.40pm. Children should be supervised by parents or minders before 9am and after 1.40pm/2,40pm.
Our school aims to provide a happy, secure, friendly learning environment, where pupils, parents, teachers, special needs assistants, ancillary staff and Board of Management work in partnership. Each individual is valued, encouraged and respected for their uniqueness and facilitated to reach their full potential in a positive atmosphere.
School Uniform
The school uniform for boys and girls is compulsory and is as follows:
Navy trousers/ skirt or pinafore, navy jumper/ cardigan/ school hoodie, blue polo shirt. Navy crested school tracksuit. Navy socks or tights and black or navy footwear.

Board of Management
The school is governed by the Board of Management, with eight members, Chairperson, Principal, Patron’s nominee, two parent nominees, teachers’ nominee and two Community nominees. The Board of Management is responsible for all aspects of the upkeep and maintenance of the school. It is also responsible for the employment of all staff. Strict accounting procedures are adhered to and all Board of Management accounts are audited annually.
Parental Involvement
St. Andrew’s Parents’ Association (SAPA) work closely with the school to support in many areas, including fundraising. They organise events such as cake sales, kids’ movie night, table quizzes, May Fair, Halloween disco, Christmas coffee morning and many more. All parents are welcome to join SAPA.
Student Council
Our student council is made up of twelve children, three each from 3rd – 6th Class. They are elected by their peers. They meet regularly to talk about school issues and they report back to all the classes.
