Holy Family N.S. is a co-educational primary school in the picturesque village of Templetuohy, catering for the education of children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The school was opened in 1985 with exceptionally large classrooms and sports hall. The staff include principal, deputy principal, three class teachers, two special education teachers , two special needs assistants and a secretary. As our school is a rural small school, it’s low pupil teacher ratios enhance an educational environment that is more learner-centered with a strong emphasis placed on individualised and small group instruction. With small numbers , there is no issue with school discipline, therefore resulting in an increase in time spent on developing a truly holistic education for all.
School Ethos
The school has a Catholic ethos, observing all the Catholic holidays and festivals. The children are prepared for the reception of the scarments of First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The ethos is demonstrated though the respect shown for each person in the school- pupils, members of staff, parents and visitors. The school supports the principles of
School Opening Times
Breakfast club opens at 8am for anyone wishing to drop off their children early. The school opens at 8.50 for all classes. The bell rings at 9am and the children line up with their classes in the Assembly Hall. Infants finish at 1.40pm and all other classes finish at 2.40pm. After school club is available from 1.40 to 6pm.
School Uniform
The uniform for boys and girls is compulsory and is as follows:
Grey trousers/skirt or pinafore, Royal Blue jumper/ cardigan , grey shirt ( all generic and available from a wide variety of shops).
School tracksuit is a school crested Ziptop available from Moloney Sports Roscrea. The tracksuit bottoms is a generic navy tracksuit available from many shops.
The Principal and staff aim to make the school a centre of excellence in which high professional standards are maintained and where pupils learn in a safe and happy environment.
We strive to promote a love of learning and try to meet the individual needs of all through a positive work ethic. This school celebrates the uniqueness of each individual and seek to nurture the child in all dimensions of his/her life: spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthic, social and physical.
Board of Management
The school is governed by the Board of Managemnet, with eight members, Chairperson,Principal, Patrons nominee, two parent nominees, teacher’s nominee and two Community nominees. The Board of management is responsible for all aspects of the upkeep and maintenance of the school. It is also responsible for the employment of all staff. Strict accounting procedures are adhered to and all Board of Management accounts are audited annually.

Parental Involvement
Holy Family N.S. Parents’ Association work closely with the school to support in many areas, including fundraising. They organise events such as raffles, table quizzes, Santa visiting the school at Christmas. Refreshments after our annual Christmas Concert. We have strong community links with many organisations in our local area such as GAA, Tidy villages, Parish Forum, Coursing club, Soccer club and Parish New Beginnings.
Student Council
We believe in allowing our children have a voice in how our school develops in all areas of learning. We have a Green school committee made up of students from Juniors to 6th class. We have an Amber flag committee made up of students from 5th and 6th to help support our school in developing awareness of positive mental health. Our 6th class take part in the CARA programme which develops friendships and caring for our junior infants.
School Life at Holy Family N.S.
Every year, there is a wide variety of after-school clubs and activities organised. They include Irish Dancing, Cookery, Speech and Drama and Traditional Irish music. Teachers also take pupils for after school training in Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, soccer and basketball
Here at Holy Family N.S. we pride ourselves in engaging in innovative learning projects and programmes along with a variety of Health and Wellbeing initiatives, including:
