How to start – please read this carefully

When conducting internet-based research, it is crucial to find credible sources to ensure accuracy and reliability. Here are some tips to help you find credible sources:

1. Start with reputable websites: Begin your search on established, trustworthy websites such as government agencies, educational institutions, reputable news outlets, and well-known organizations.

2. Check author credentials: Look for information about the author or organization responsible for the content. Verify their expertise, qualifications, and credentials. Be cautious if the author's information is missing or seems biased.

3. Consider domain extensions: Websites with .gov, .edu, or .org tend to be more reliable since they are associated with government, educational, or nonprofit organizations respectively.

4. Evaluate references and citations: Look for sources cited within the article or webpage. Verify those references to ensure they are reliable and support the writer's claims.

5. Assess objectivity and bias: Be conscious of any biases or agendas present in the content. Look for balanced viewpoints and objective analysis rather than content that seems overly promotional or one-sided.

6. Peer-reviewed publications: Scholarly articles and papers published in respected academic journals often undergo a rigorous peer-review process, providing greater credibility to the information presented.

Remember, verifying the reliability of sources is an ongoing process. Applying these guidelines will enhance your ability to find credible and trustworthy information when conducting internet-based research.

If you are beginning your CP… start by choosing a title.

• Choose one… see page 6

• Start researching the title

• Create a database (it is a bank of sources and information) from your research by…

o Write/copy/type down each source into a document (excel/word/pages/note/an email) on your phone/laptop/tablet or PC etc

o Internet based research… record the url of each article or page accessed and the date & time it was accessed

o cut/paste all the relevant info from the source into the document under the url

o if a different source; record accordingly (a book, authors name, book title etc…)

o do this multiple times until you have a clear grasp of the topic in your CP title and you have a clear idea of the findings of your research.

o Select 3-4 findings and a conclusion to these findings….

• Conduct the task required in your CP to promote the findings of your research

• to assess the impact of your task and findings. Maybe create a survey of the individuals who attended or interacted with your task
