With the right connections, artists can even get signed on to be the openers for bigger tours. “Get your stuf out there and that will help promote you too.”

What about advice for aspiring musicians? “It’s easier than you think,” says Kennedy. “Start. If you don’t know where to start, start. Cofee shops, friends’ bedrooms, record yourself.” It’s easier than ever to make your own music: “Open up GarageBand, and there’s a lot of quick mastering tools that you can do on there. And you can give that stuf to someone if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself.” You just have to start somewhere: “The more you do it, the more experienced you’re gonna get, and then the more success you’ll get.”
