Once again, this year, we are proud to be the Media Sponsor of Palm Springs Leather Pride, taking place this month October 25-28. Check out the Official Guide on pages 27-43. The Palm Springs Leather Order Of The Desert (PSLOD) “has a long history of giving back to our community, as well donating its time and energy for the betterment of our extended community,” writes Dominic Chevalier, PSLOD President. Since 1994, states Chevalier, PSLOD has donated nearly $250,000 to LGBTQ local and national organizations. “During Palm Springs Leather Pride,” writes Chevalier, “we are cumulatively focused on both fund raising for noteworthy causes as well as providing our attendees the best possible time—because without you

we are unable to achieve our goals.” Also in this issue—we feature the Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence “Got To Vote” photo series (“Got To Vote,” page 18). “The goal,” say the Sisters, “is to use imagery and our humor as a tool to encourage our local communities to get out and VOTE! We thought we’d sass it up a bit, for everyone’s enjoyment. As stated by Sister Unity, ‘Sass is serious, it serves and catches the attention of people. It aligns us with those alienated Voters we are trying to convince.’ We drag nuns urge all Americans to register and vote! You want change? You want your voices heard? Then use your right as an American and VOTE your asses off!” The midterm elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

FARAH FAWCETT’S SON SUED FOR ALLEGED HOMOPHOBIC ATTACK A gay man has filed a lawsuit against Redmond O’Neal, the son of actors Farah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, accusing him of a vicious attack motivated by hate, reports LGBTQ Nation. Ken Fox said that the attack occurred on May 2 this year when he was going to a laundromat. Fox said he saw O’Neal approach him wearing a hoodie and a bottle. “What are you looking at, faggot?” O’Neal allegedly said. Fox says that O’Neal rushed at him and hit him in the nose with the bottle. O’Neal stood over him when he was on the ground, taunting him with slurs and punching him. The Los Angeles District Attorney filed a felony assault charge in connection with the attack on Fox. n

26, came to Los Angeles two years ago to “pursue music, modeling and establish my influence.” With flowing long hair, perfectly curated brows and a smile that lights up the LA Public Library, Jaymes is on the path to manifesting the life he knows is meant for him. But it hasn’t always looked this way. “I feel very fortunate that I didn’t have a suitcase when I came out here.. it allowed me the chance to have myself,” he reveals in an interview with THE FIGHT. “You have to build from what you have,” he states. Jaymes stayed in laundry rooms, staircases, “everything to not be seen on these streets.” Now, he is able to access a place to sleep and shower before waking up every day to network and build his dreams. “[My purpose is] to entertain and cause awareness...I want to have an impact on my men...In a world where everyone is the big boss, there is a lot of power in being submissive.” Part of that influence is showing up as a gender-non-conforming individual: “[My expression is] everything. Because without getting that experience to express yourself, the world can be bland… If you put yourself out there as different, you’re putting yourself in a position to be respected in a different way...love it or hate it!” If you ask Christian about his pronouns, he’ll say without fail: “anything you want me to be...if I am okay with however people see me, I have less weight on my shoulders and put myself in a position to be more open to however people are going to choose to see me.” That being said, Christian recognizes the responsibility of representing a group of individuals who have fought to be where they are: “because being the person that stands out, I have to know that people are watching me and if I mess up and do the wrong thing... [I’m] representing those that take time out of their lives to build that community.” In his own music, Jaymes says that he wants to shed a light on issues the mainstream may not often bring to focus: racism, sexism, and homophobia. Jaymes’ advice for up-and-coming artists: “Life is a game of give and take. The answer is in yourself: but, sometimes people in your life will share something that maybe you hadn’t thought of… Learn to express yourself in ways not only for yourself but for others who may not be able to express themselves the way you can...When you help others is when you help yourself.” And remember: “Your dream is one day away. Don’t fail the daily test.” Contact Christian Jaymes at: mjlola333@gmail.com.

merican Male Medical is the a leading pioneer in the field of erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and problems stemming from low testosterone. Collectively, their doctors have over 50 years of expertise. “Our doctors are specialists—we ONLY treat ED, PE, and Low T. If that’s what you have, you want a specialist who sees these cases all day long, not someone who sees them occasionally,” says American Male Medical’s Dr. Michael Moeller. While some may think age is a factor—Dr. Moeller explains that “sex is more than just a physical act. It’s an important component to everyone’s health, happiness and relationship, and a key facet to our overall quality of life. Age should not prevent someone and their partner from enjoying life to the fullest. Our oldest patient is 96! We specialize in helping couples experience a satisfying, fulfilling, relationship that includes some of the best sex ever. At any age.” When asked if they use the same medicines we hear about all the time, like Viagra—Dr. Moeller answers with a firm “No. In fact, most of our patients have already lost their money on the popular medications you see on TV. They bought a prescription, only to find they didn’t work for them. We offer safe, effective treatments that succeed when other medications have failed, such as with diabetes patients or prostate cancer survivors. And, unlike some popular meds, our treatment is safe, and works, for patients with many different heart conditions.” “We have three main concerns at American Male Medical,” states Dr. Moeller, “our patient’s health, happiness and privacy. Our doctors and staff are here to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction to ensure that every one of our patients obtains and maintains all three.” n American Male Medical has offices in Sherman Oaks and Irvine. RANDY CARMENATY

O

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF PALM SPRINGS LEATHER PRIDE

n behalf of Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert (PSLOD), I would like to welcome you to Renegade— our 24th year celebrating our sexuality, brotherhood and community. We hope that you have one the greatest times ever—at the 28 different events we have planned for you—including a street fair with LA DJ Brian Novy, amazing and unique vendors, the Mr. Palm Springs Leather Contest, three mens’s pool play parties, Cockpit the Saturday Dance and After Hours Party with international DJ Jack Chang at the Palm Springs Air Museum, Atomic the Victory Dance and Street Fair with LA DJ Manuelito at the Barracks, BDSM:edu at the Center or shopping at GEAR, Off-Ramp and Rough Trade. This year we celebrate Tom of Finland’s sense of Renegade. From him we learned to embrace our sexuality and make no excuses for it while supporting community and goodwill. We’re honored to have the privilege of featuring Tom of Finland the movie as our kick off to the weekend—thanks to the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Thanks to so many Renegades coming together, we’ve outgrown our previous formal dinner venue. Therefore, in honor of the Tom of the Finland Foundation we invite even more Renegades to join us at the Palm Springs Air Museum for our Tom of Finland Formal Leather Cocktails and Dinner an evening to recognize some noteworthy local Renegade organizations as well as the Tom of Finland Foundation’s work in keeping his legacy alive for future generations. We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years as an attendee, volunteer, vendor of the street fair, local bar owners and clubs as well in other cities, local business and not so local, friends of PSLOD, members of PSLOD, residents of Cathedral City and Palm Springs as well as their elected city officials and staff it’s your hard work and continuous support that makes this weekend possible. Yours in the bond,

DOMINIC CHEVALIER

P

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF PALM SPRINGS LEATHER ORDER OF THE DESERT

SLOD has a long history of giving back to our community, as well donating its time and energy for the betterment of our extended community. Since 1994, PSLOD has donated nearly $250,000 to LGBTQ local and national organizations. This has continuously earned us a Bronze Star rating by Guidestar Charities Directory. Throughout the year club members randomly devote time and/or raise funds for several charitable organizations. However, its during Palm Springs Leather Pride that we are cumulatively focused on both fund raising for noteworthy causes as well as providing our attendees the best possible time—because without you we are unable to achieve our goals. Last year thanks to the overwhelming support of many and countless volunteers, our attendees grew by as much as 45% over the previous year. Because of this, we were able to donate over $10,500 to several noteworthy organizations! This achievement is something that the members of PSLOD are all very proud of, and should be. In 2017, we donated to the LGBT Center of Palm Springs, Safe Schools Desert Cities for their outreach to the LGBTQI+ youth, their allies, GSA providers by providing education, resources, guidance, advocacy and opportunities for selfexpression, UC Riverside SOM Street Medicine who are educating our future healers and “improving the health of the underserved population” in addition to the Leather Archives and Museum—just to name a few. It is with a great pride that we present to you the 2018 recipients of the majority of our charitable donations and efforts throughout the year: The LGBT Center because they positively impact so many different lives on a daily basis, The Well in the Desert in order to help them provide a shower truck for the homeless, and The Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City because the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. Welcome and let’s start the show!

SOBER LIFE

We asked a few local clean and sober individuals, in their first year of sobriety, what they hope to get out of living a life free from addiction.

REBUILD MY RELATIONSHIP

MANUEL ALVARADO

“Right now I have 76 days sober and I want to work on my sobriety. I call my sponsor daily. I only hang out with people who are working in their recovery. I stay busy. Sobriety is amazing. Every single something positive comes out of my sobriety, whether it’s getting a bus pass or going to a meeting. And I remind myself daily where addiction took me. That’s a big one for me. I think about how much it took from me and how much I lost and what I’ll lose again if I go back. I want a peaceful life. I was insane when I was using. I want to rebuild my relationship with my family. I have a sister. She’s five and a half and want to be a good example for my little sister. That’s what I want.” —Manuel Alvarado, sober July 3, 2018.

SPIRITUAL CONNECTIONS “I hope to get a sense of purpose, a connection to my family and to something bigger than myself. Right now I’m 150 days sober. I’ve been in the program for 15 years. There is also a lot of shame and guilt attached to my relapse. I really hurt my family, because they have the same hopes and dreams that I have BRIAN for me and when I relapse, that EYTH all goes away for all of us. I’ve been at the Van Ness Recovery House for almost five months now and I’m getting anxious for a sober living, but I’m also so grateful. When I was living in a park and I had nowhere to go and I was so paranoid, alone and

www.thefightmag.com 4 ghtmag.com 46 6 T TH HE E F F IGH IGH T T || www.thefi www.thefightmag.com

afraid… the Van Ness Recovery House took me in. I also started a new job, which is a lot to learn, but I’m full of gratitude for all of it. I think in this recovery, more than any other, I’ve really been working on building bonds with people and making spiritual connections. I’m working on many amends with my family by staying sober and working a really rigorous program, so that I don’t relapse again.” —Brian Eyth, sober since April 23, 2018.

JOSE-LUIS RIGAUD

TO BE HAPPY

“I have 65 days sober. Basically I wasn’t happy. I was trying to find happiness through alcohol, but the happiness wasn’t there, so what I’m trying to do is find the me that has been missed because of my drinking. Sobriety is awesome. I have my partner back. He was sleeping in the guest room. He’s back in our bed. I remember things now in the morning. I no longer have hangovers. I’m in better mood. You can tell that I’m smiling more now. I hope to get peace and serenity and I want to be helpful to my fellow brothers and sisters and be more useful. I think being sober, I will be able to do more things and do them better. I just want to be happy. Two days ago, I jumped out of a plane. It was awesome.” —Jose-Luis Rigaud, sober since July 15, 2018.
