We preserve the important events and people in our lives. Photographs are our personal story, filled with faces and places that we love. Images are much more than a simple record. Photography speaks to the most generous part of our human nature – the desire to share what we find beautiful. Millions of people’s images can involve a world of strangers in our life. How powerful is that? Keep reading to discover the most inspiring photographers, cameras, and photos of 2016.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY

9

A stunning sunrise. Majestic mountains. Rushing rivers. Nature can be inspiring and photography is an excellent medium through which to capture the beauty of a landscape. Landscape photography can be a way to see the world in all its glory and show art through life. “Photography is more than a medium for factual communications for ideas. It is a creative art.”

– Ansel Adams

16

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY

17

Travel photography is about carrying your camera with you, sometimes without the intention of even using it, and being able to snap away at a moments notice. This all comes with time of course, and doesn’t just happen overnight, but thats where skills and ways of learning emerge. It’s about making a connection with your subject, in a way that a ‘holiday-maker’ may not. “Anything worth pursuing is going to require us to suffer, just a little bit.”

– Chris Burkard

12

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

13

Telling stories really defines what street photography is. When looking at the images of a street photographer, you are also getting a look into their soul. Don’t only shoot with your eyes. Shoot with your heart. “It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera...they are made with the eye, heart, and head.”

– Henri Cartier-Bresson

20

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

21

Portraitures are known to be some of the most inspiring pieces of art in the world. A quick photo of someone in a whichever setting can have a huge impact in the world of photography, as long as they have the vision. “Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.”

– Yousof Karsh

24

CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY

25

Conceptual photography represent ideas, movements, moods, anything and everything that the photographer might want to include in the message of their photograph. Often, it seems un-real. Reality in the photos are distorted, and what you know as normal, is completely changed. “Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world.”

– Bruno Barbey

THE FOX MAGAZINE FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHERS

Discovering the most inspiring talent deserving of recognition.

IVAN WONG

I owe my orign in photography alongside my foray into urban exploration back in June 2015. New to NY and not knowing many people in the city, I decided to explore in an inexpensive and different way. Starting with capturing architecture and soon taking cityscapes from high vantage points. Eventually, I made many friends around the world with the same passion who have helped me cultivate a creative identity. My goal is to capture the world in ways that many don't normally see. My photos are inspired by futurescapes and gritty themes such as cyberpunk and neo-noir. Last year was the starting point of my foray and this year I have achieved milestones that I had originally never imagined to be possible, such as becoming a brand ambassador for Sony as part of their Alpha Imaging Collective, to work on projects with Google, and to be published in a magazine like The Fox Magazine. I consider myself more an artist than a photographers since the majority of my workflow is spent on editing. Those with expensive gears may not always have the best work, but those who know how to inject mood and create a story into their work are the real game changers.

JUUSO HaMaLaINEN

I'm a 21-year old self-taught photographer and a visual artist from Finland. I've always lived near nature so it has always been important for me. Just taking a walk in the woods or listening to the sound of a rain really gets me relaxed and in touch with the magical feeling of being connected with the nature and the world. The thing I love about photography and editing is that it makes me able to share this magical feeling with others through my photographs and thus inspire people to spend more time in the nature and appreciate this beautiful world. My sources of inspiration are music, my dreams, nature, and of course the painter Bob Ross. "The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that

you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe." - Bob Ross

JAKE MATTHEWS

What's up everyone! My name is Jake Matthews, and I'm a travel & portrait photographer based out of Nashville, Tennessee. These photos of mine are from my recent trip to Kenya, where I worked there as a photojournalist for S months for a non-profit that works with street children. I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel the world but of all the places I've traveled, Kenya was definitely the best. Over the past 4 years of me doing photography, I've done literally every type of photography: urban, portrait, landscape, family, photojournalism, etc. And for so long I was driven to be a success with my photography. I wanted to be considered the best, shooting for the best companies, and make a good living doing it. But after a while, I realized that if I accomplished all of that, I would look back on it at the end of my life and just say "So what? Like who cares?" And that realization changed my passion for photography in a major way. I want my photography to mean something. I want to shoot with purpose and use my creativity to make the world a better place and bring awareness to all the things happening in the world and together to change for the better. Much love!

47

ALEJANDRO VELIZ

My name is Alejandro Veliz, I am a self taught photographer based out of Miami, Florida. I started photographing everything possible after spraining my ankle skate-boarding as a way to keep me off the couch. Since my ankle healed, I haven't been able to put the camera down. I was learning that photography is really important to me through studying different work by the father of photojournalism, Henri Cartier-Bresson. It was a way of capturing those decisive moments we see in our daily life, moments that are normally gone faster than a blink of an eye. "You just have to live and life will give you pictures." -Henri Cartier-Bresson

33

DEANDRE HOLLAND

My name is DeAndre Holland and I go by KeptFrozen. I've always been a creative person. Always challenging myself and finding new ways to be creative. Growing up drawing a lot, my thought was I was going to be an artist or designer. Sure enough, went to college and studied graphic design. After going overseas in my first semester in college1 I found myself loving photography more than design. So I chose to continue to get my degree and just teach myself photography as I grow. Now being in my early 20s, I'm fortunate enough to shoot for Nike, streetwear brands, and public figures such as Nicole Mejia. Since graduating college, photography has taken me farther than I could imagine. It is my pride and joy 1 for some it's an oasis to us. When I'm shooting out and about, I'm not worried about anything. I'm always trying to stay inspired, but photographers who inspire me are Mario Kristian, Trashhand, Insighting, and Kaidencechi. They are the people that make me hustle even more when I'm out in the field shooting.

29

JOANNA KALAFATIS

I'm a travel writer and photographer based in Los Angeles, though I have also lived in Athens and New York & explored over 35 countries. There's nothing like traveling and connecting with people that have intriguing stories, as well as get a better understanding of the world. I can't get enough of discovering new places and destinations. Whether they're 5000 miles away or in the next neighborhood, photography urges me to explore and view my surroundings in a whole new light with much greater curiosity. Growing up inspired by brave women like Martha Gellhorn, who broke social conventions and risked everything to see the world and report on the important stories of the day - I recently helped film a documentary in a Syrian refugee camp, and I hope to expand into more journalistic stories like this. My next adventure will be exploring Southeast Asia, from Vietnam to Malaysia, by land!

35

ERICK RAMIREZ MIAMI, FLORIDA

My name is Erick Ramirez. I'm a photographer based of out of South Florida. The way I got inspired is by looking at all the amazing photos that were being posted on Instagram by the other talented photographers. I went through several different cameras until I finally decide to stick with the very handy Canon 6D. Photography is important to me by how we can show art at time where you can capture something. Photography can also make a person have the urge to travel and think differently from others. It gets you out of your comfort zone and makes you a create moments that will last forever. I will forever be inspired by the constant support I get everyday from people on social media and in person. The photos I see everyday give me new ideas to work something out in my own photos. I also have a few of my closest friends who inspire me everyday so I can improve myself not only through photography, but as a person.

31

ZACH BOISJOLY

I'm originally from Miami, Florida but raised in Nashville, Tennessee. Just recently, I've re-located to New York to take on greater opportunities. At a young age I inadvertently exposed myself to photography through the dime a dozen Kodak disposable cameras you could pick up at a drug store. I still have drawers filled with those cameras that I've yet to get developed from years ago. As I got older, it snowballed into small cameras, iPhones and eventually many years later my first DSLR. Photography started as just a hobby for me and with time, it transformed into a passion. It is all about the beauty of the moment in time that you capture - a moment that is unable to ever be recreated. While drawing most of my inspiration just from the environment around me, Instagram is also a big source of inspiration. Being able to see so many artists' work at the tips of your fingers is very powerful. Photographers such as Van Styles and Tim McGurr aka 13th Witness, are always a solid sources of inspiration. Lately, I have been gravitating towards famous photographers outside the world of social media. Photographers such as Diane Arbus, Danny Clinch and Estevan Oriol have expanded my creativity.

43

NATASHA PEREZ MIAMI, FLORIDA

My name is Natasha Perez and I'm a creative from Miami, Florida. I started traveling on my own when I was 17 years old. Since then, I've been to 20 countries. Fell in love with the world and didn't look back. I picked up a camera for the first time about two years ago, and haven't put it down since. Photography is my outlet. It's how I bring people with me wherever I go. I'm inspired by the excitement and adventure of the unknown, the new, and the unfamiliar. I am in constant awe of life on earth, and want to share what I see with the world so that they can see with new eyes. I want to change what people see and how they see it. Aspiring to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and live their lives without fear or restraint is my goal. Forever thankful for the people I've met and the places I've been that have inspired me to live free and share my eyes with the world.

MIKE FOX

/

/

My name is Mike Fox and I am a freelance photographer as well as the founder of The Fox Magazine. While still attending Western Kentucky University, I am more focused than ever to inspire people to chase their dreams through creativity. Photography started for me senior year of high school. It took being apart of the yearbook crew and being asked to take a few photos at a basketball game to really make me interested in creating images. Although it's been over S years ago, I vividly remember falling in love with photography that day. Since then, I've been blessed to travel to some of the most beautiful places in the world capturing different perspectives that may have otherwise not been seen. My inspiration comes directly from my childhood. Raised by a single mother, it taught me to overcome any challenge thrown at me. Family continues to be a huge inspiration for me. My primary goal now is to inspire others go after their dreams no matter what it may be. While still learning myself, The Fox Magazine is set out to be the primary source of inspiration across the globe.

THE FOX 5

54 DSLRs deliver a big step up in image quality from a compact camera, far more manual control and the ability to change lenses to tackle a huge variety of projects. It’s clear that the more features you want, the more you’ll pay, but do you actually need them? This article explores the best, but also cheapest, entry-level cameras on the market. Still offering impressive performance and image quality, these cameras have enough features to handle most assignments, especially if you’re still learning. Let’s shoot!

OLYMPUS TG-4 The Olympus Tough TG-4 adds RAW image capture and multiple fun shooting modes, helping it leap to the front of the pack when it comes to entry-level cameras. Imaging performance is solid for its class, but where this camera separates itself is through its fun-to-use shooting features and versatility. What we mean by versatility, this camera delivers the most bang for its buck. Not only does it have the ability to record 1080P video, capture images at

16MP resolution, but the TG-4’s ultra-bright high-speed F 2.0 lens captures light fast. It’s easy to nail blur-free shots as quick as the action happens, and shoot crisp, detailed images with minimal noise in low light with this camera. Plus, control the focus range of the background with the Aperture Priority Mode for amazing results. Not to mention it’s waterproof up to 50 feet and shockproof up to 20 feet!

NIKON D5500 The Nikon D5000 series has long been a good choice for photographers who wanted a very capable, compact DSLR that offer a higher level of enthusiast features than the D3000 series that sits below it. Nikon’s D5500 continues that trend, though the differences from the D5300 that came before it aren’t enormous.

Taking amazing pictures and sharing them have become easier than ever. The D5500 inherits a range of advanced imaging and creative technologies, and combines them with the convenience of a touch screen.

ENTRY-LEVEL CAMERAS

PENTAX K-50

Picture this; a camera that is amazingly mobile and sporty, now add a weather resistant construction that withstands the rain, exceptional imaging power even in the dark, high-speed continuous shooting to capture the once in a lifetime moments, and a large viewfinder image. That’s the Pentax K-50 and it takes you beyond the conventional boundaries of photography! The Pentax K-50’s control layout is very similar to its older brother, the K-30, although

the extreme styling of that camera has been replaced with a more traditional look and feel. The LCD screen has a very high resolution of 920K dots, wide viewing angle and it remains visible outdoors in all but the brightest of conditions. This makes it one of the better LCD screens that make photography and life much easier.

SONY A6000

The Alpha 6000 is a mirrorless 24-megapixel camera with a kit lens that has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24mm75mm. The camera includes an electronic viewfinder, which is extremely helpful when composing in bright light. The difference is that with an optical viewfinder you are essentially seeing what your eyes see, which can help in certain situations. While it takes a little bit to get used to this difference, we find it much more useful

CANON REBEL SL1 The epically designed 18-megapixel SL1 easily impresses with clear and crisp photos. The camera features high-speed, continuous shooting at 4 frames per second. When shooting video, the SL1 captures 1080p HD video in 30 frames per second or full 720p HD at 50 frames per second. Canon has also included manual exposure and focus control, live view features, and the ability to edit your clips on the camera itself.

51

It even takes video snapshots at 2, 4, or 8 seconds before combining them into a single video album. Its built-in attenuator also helps reduce audio clipping during recordings. Additionally, a simple finger gestures allow you to zoom in on photos, swipe through your photo library, or access and change control settings. A coating ensures the glare-free LCD screen will remain crystal clear despite the gesture controls.

for photography.. One of the biggest benefits of moving to a mirrorless camera system is simply how portable they are. The Sony A6000 weighs just 12.13oz and can easily fit in the palm of your hand. This versatility of this camera leaves it in our top list of entrylevel cameras.
