MUST-HAVES FOR THE TRIP

Sunscreen

Comfortable Shoes

While it’s a no-brainer that you pack sunscreen for the beach, we’ll bet you spend just as much time soaking up mountain sunshine while hiking and floating, and of course, sitting on outside patios sampling our best brews and bites.

One way to guarantee a boring trip to the mountains is to spend the whole time in a hotel room. Bring comfortable shoes and taking full advantage of what the area has to offer, you can walk 10,000 daily steps in no time through the mountains!

A Light Jacket

Your Dog

Western North Carolina offers one of the best climates in the world. Warm to hot during a summer day, then cooling down to the most pleasant temperatures in the evenings. You won’t want to go indoors when the sun goes down, so something to keep your arms warm is just the thing.

Four-legged best friends are welcome guests. You will find numerous dog friendly patios at restaurants, breweries, coffee houses and wineries. Many of the region’s hotels are also pet friendly. Asheville just might become the favorite vacation destination for you and your pup!

JULIA JOE Julia is a travel blogger turned photographer that’s capturing amazing cities, nature, adventure, tranquility, busy attractions and even hidden corners. Surrounded by the ocean and islands, she gives an interesting perspective on her journey and “what’s on the other side of the world.”

Don’t give up! It has become incredibly hard to gain a great followership the honest way. Find your favorite photo editing tool (for me it’s VSCO and Snapseed) and try to create your own style. Don’t stick to only one filter or preset, but try to find 4-5 for different situations.

We interviewed with Julia about her travels, come up in photography as well as her goto-gear on a trip. Where is home? Geographically my home is Vienna, Austria, but frequently travel to places like NYC and Bangkok. They’re also starting to feel like home. What has traveling taught you? A lot of things actually. Starting with practical things like riding a scooter, dealing with challenging situations and changes of plans, but also being grateful for the things I have already: A stable home, health and after all, the privilege to be able to travel. Did you go to school to study photography? No, everything is self-taught, trial-and-error. However, I’ve been thinking back and forth whether I should start taking classes.

If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why? It’s hard to narrow it down to one lens, but I’ll probably go for the 16-50mm lens which is the most versatile. Unless I can take my phone too, then the 1.8 50mm fixed focal length would be the first pick ;) The Fox Magazine is all about inspiration, what/who inspires you the most? I get the most inspiration from Instagram and magazines. Do you have any tips or tricks for achieving an awesome Instagram page? Don’t give up! Where have you traveled that is a place you can always go and feel or be happy? Besides Greece, I would say Colombia is near the top of my list. Everything about the nature, the music, the food, the nightlife, fills me with joy. I have also found it very easy to meet people there, and anywhere that people are that open, friendly, and not afraid to dance their hearts out is alright by me.

Where do you call home when you’re not traveling? I live in Los Angeles, California, and have called it home for the past nine years. But I also always have a place in my heart for my small town of Nea Makri, Greece, just outside Athens. I grew up there, still have my childhood home there, and visit every year.
