It should come as no surprise that at age 39 Brandon Radmall is in the gym by 5 a.m. and at his desk at 7 a.m. each weekday. The business owner of 11 years, and president of Paul Davis Restoration of Utah operates at warp speed. He purchased his Salt Lake City franchise in 2013 and hasn’t slowed down since, expanding his footprint exponentially through a series of joint ventures with other Paul Davis franchise owners.
The first came in 2020 when Brandon partnered with his twin brother, Brady, owner of a Paul Davis franchise in Phoenix. He then opened the Paul Davis franchise in Las Vegas in July of 2022. In Sept 2023 Radmall signed another joint venture agreement with owner Jamie McVaney as partner in Paul Davis of Greater Reno & Tahoe, Nev. But Radmall was only getting started. He followed with similar agreements with Garrett Meikle of Paul Davis of Idaho in Dec 2023 and Ryan Trigg of Paul Davis of Front Range and Boulder (Colo.) in Nov 2023.

In the summer of 2023, a high school in Idaho had a devastating fire about 1 month before summer vacation. Radmall began working in construction when he was only 16, doing framing, drywall, and siding. Corporate VP Finds Success as Multi-Unit Drybar Shop Owner
While jet setting around the country as the vice president of corporate sales for a large financial technology company, Anne Evers knew how to close business deals.
What she didn’t know was how to do her own hair. That’s how she found a Drybar® shop, and it left a lasting impression.
“I left feeling confident,” she says. “I got a great experience and I thought, if the numbers will work for this, this could be a really good business venture, too. I'm very passionate about the brand and what it stands for, what it means to people.”
The Drybar brand wasn’t her first venture into franchising.
While Evers and her husband, Matt, both had backgrounds in corporate sales, she always knew that she wanted to be a
business owner. She just didn’t know immediately that it would be in franchising.
About a year after they were married, Matt gave Anne a journal to chronicle her entrepreneurial ideas as she contemplated becoming a business owner.
“It was like a business ideas journal to sort of help start my entrepreneurship journey,” she says. “I was thinking more along the lines like maybe I'll have a consulting business, or maybe I'll do a sales education and training business. I wasn't thinking necessarily about franchising until after we had our first child.”
Shortly after having her first son, Cooper, in 2014, Evers had difficulty in finding reliable childcare near her in Northeast Houston. That eventually led the couple to the Primrose Schools.
Just over a decade later, the couple have left behind their careers in corporate sales and now have two children, five Primrose Schools, seven Drybar shops in Texas and are in a partnership in an eighth Drybar shop in Minnesota.
Sometimes the speed at which everything happened makes her head spin.
At first, gaining entry into the Drybar brand was challenging. The shops around her in Texas
were corporately owned when she first inquired about them. That was before WellBiz Brands took over the brand. Then, with a quick switch in gears, she received a call about a business partnership in Minnesota and building a new location there. As the deal moved forward and building had begun, that location was put on hold when the pandemic began in 2020.
“It was an extended process,” she says of getting on board with the Drybar brand. “During that time, a lot of things changed for them.”
In short, WellBiz Brands bought the Drybar franchise rights and those properties in Austin and Houston she had been inquiring about were suddenly available – all seven of them.
“It really became an opportunity for me, because I had been reaching out to them a long time about the Houston and Austin markets, begging them basically to let me take those over,” she says. “So, we went through a process with the Drybar brand after the acquisition to take over the Houston and Austin locations. And then we opened the shop in Minnesota.”
Within a few months in 2021, Evers became the owner of all seven shops and a partner
in the eighth. While Matt concentrated on operating the schools, she focused on the Drybar shops.
“So, it was a really challenging time period to navigate taking on the new shops and getting through what seemed to be a never-ending pandemic,” she says. “We still weren’t out of the pandemic at that point. I remember, I’d go to bed at night wondering, ‘Did I do the right thing?’”
She leaned heavily on her teams at the time, some of whom are still working at the shops.
“It starts with making sure that we have good culture at the shops and that clients have a great experience and that our team members have a good experience,” she says. “That's been our focus from the beginning.”
Evers admits, like many other franchisees’ experiences in
getting into the business, she had her doubts about making it work. But she kept working hard and is glad she did.
“Having a relationship with such a great brand like Drybar, the systems and infrastructure that they had in place, a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work helped everything just fall into place. I'm so very lucky.”

Manscaping Boom Helps Shed Intimidation for Male Waxing Services
by Kelli Schroeder, Vice President of Development, WellBiz Brands, Inc.Brandi Bailey knows that while a waxing salon’s services can be intimidating for men, she has seen a steady increase in male guests in recent years. Manscaping is in and has grown to a multi-billion-dollar industry.
As such, brands like the Radiant Waxing brand, where Bailey is a manager, are catering more to a growing male clientele, which is helping to fuel the company’s growth. The Radiant Waxing brand, formerly LunchboxWax®, underwent a rebranding in 2022 that ushered in a genderneutral color palette for its products and salons. It also
dropped the original logo, which featured the outline of a woman.
“It's not pink. I didn't really care for the pink – I'm not a pink girl – but it's still the same wax,” Bailey said of the rebrand. “It's still the same techniques. It's still the same patterns. It's just a different name. And it really does make a difference. And I think the male clients can really see that.”
Franchise owner Carrie Shyra agreed.
“The rebranding has been great for our salon,” Shyra said. “I think it’s more welcoming to men and helps relax them more when they come in. Waxing isn’t just for women.”
Denver-based Shyra’s observation echoes a number of industry analyses.
According to data gathered by market insight company Statista in 2023, the global male grooming market is expected to be worth $115 billion by 2028, up from nearly $80 billion in 2022. The same market was worth about $74.8 billion in 2021.
“The perception of beauty standards for men is changing,” according to a report from Straits Research, another research and consulting company. “Decades-long gender stereotypes have begun to break down, and men's and women's beauty products are now being created.”
The Global Men's Personal Care Market is expected to be worth about $69 billion by 2030, growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 9.2%. Straits Research attributes the growth to increasing awareness of personal care among men and new fashion trends.
GETTING INTO WAXING
Shyra and her husband, Mike, were walking out of Barnes
& Noble one night and saw a LunchboxWax salon.
“We looked it over and it was like, ‘Oh, that's interesting,’” she said. “I wonder what that is.”
That interest has led to the couple’s investment into two franchise locations in the Denver area.
Before that, Carrie Shyra had worked as a renal nurse and case manager for 35 years.
“When we first reached out to them, they said there wasn’t a location available,” Shyra said. “And we didn’t want to build one at the time. But about four months later, Mike got a call that the owners wanted to sell.”
While they launched their first location, Carrie continued to work in nursing and learned her way around the business while Mike kept traveling for his career. But that changed when they bought their second salon.
“When we did that, I quickly realized I couldn't work,” she said. At that point, Shyra quit nursing and went into franchising full time, building a great team around her, which includes Bailey.
FROM NOSTRILS TO MANZILIANS
Above-the-waist waxing is a man’s gateway to additional and more serious services. Nostrils, eyebrows, inner ears, arms, chest and backs are many of the common services Radiant Waxing salons offers male clients.
Those are often the most requested by timid first-timers, Bailey said. “Their demeanor can go from kind of like, ‘Oh, man, my wife's making me do this,’ to you know, just saying, ‘Hey, you know, I'm here to get my back done. I'm going to the beach, and I don't want to look like Chewbacca.’”
If they decide to progress into additional services below the waist, that can include everything from legs to a “Manzilian” – the male version of a woman’s Brazilian wax, where all hair is removed from the groin area.
“The first time, they are a little bit more nervous,” she said. “But I think we do a good job of making sure that they're comfortable and they know what's going on. I just try to reassure them.”
At Radiant Waxing salons, the professionalism, specialized techniques and products they use set them apart from other waxing salons, Bailey and Shyra said.
“All of our staff is highly trained, and we’ve found the male clients tend to stick to using the same waxologist,” Shyra added. “Once they get used to it, they are less nervous and it's not as foreign to them.”
Bailey has also noticed the male guests are more apt to develop a professional rapport with their specific waxologist. So, when someone goes on vacation or is out sick, they don’t want to see someone different. They will typically reschedule.
The Radiant Waxing brand’s aftercare regime and products are also tailored to be inclusive, which can make a big difference in proper care following waxing, Bailey said. “Since we rebranded, I do find a lot more of the male guests are willing to pick up the aftercare products because they don't have a giant logo with a girl holding a pink lunch box.”

Our ideal market is affluent suburban areas of 50,000 population or more, where the average resident’s income exceeds $75,000 a year.” She says Amazing Lash’s “lighter asset model can open for $436,334 with working capital.” Locations do not require sizable real estate, a plus in terms of overhead, she adds. “The typical Amazing Lash Studio size is 1,200 to 1,800 square feet,” although it can be even smaller.
In addition to Amazing Lash, Wellbiz Brands’ portfolio includes Drybar, Elements Massage, Fitness Together and Radiant Waxing. “Radiant Waxing is a good sister brand to Amazing Lash,” Schroeder says. “Both have to do with face and skincare. We are testing co-branded real estate locations that are side by side. The same types of employees are needed for both brands, making for easier operations.”

How Ellie Mental Health Fills the Gaps for Therapists, Clients, and Franchise Owners

It can be difficult to find a franchise business that addresses both. That’s where Ellie Mental Health fills the gap for business owners.
Similarly, most therapists believe there are two options when it comes to employment after graduate school: a large healthcare system or small private practice. Of course they both have their pros and cons, but when I was a new therapist, it felt like I was constantly weighing my options and making tradeoffs, like low compensation for comprehensive benefits. Or needing to work full time remote in order to have flexibility in my schedule.

I did not go into the mental health field to own my own business; I went into the field to help clients heal and thrive. I do my best work as a therapist when I can focus on them, not the stressors of navigating insurance claims or running social media ads.
