Veterans Continuing to Serve our Country through Franchise Ownership
The structured environment and leadership qualities ingrained in military service make veterans ideal franchisees. Here’s how veterans are reshaping the franchise industry with their resilience, discipline, and ability to follow proven systems.
THE RISE OF VETERAN FRANCHISEES
Veterans, making up 14% of all franchise owners, are leveraging their military experience to achieve entrepreneurial success. Their commitment to teamwork, mission-driven mindset, and ability to follow structured systems aligns perfectly with the franchising model. This seamless fit explains why programs like VetFran, established in 1991 by Don Dwyer, Sr with the International Franchise Association (IFA) and HomeFront Brands Veteran’s initiative among many others, have gained traction by offering veterans support in business ownership. Since its inception, VetFran has helped thousands of veterans enter the franchise world through mentorship, financial assistance, and education.
The Veterans Franchise Council (formerly known as VFC) was conceived as a collective effort to assist veterans in realizing their dreams of entrepreneurship. Launched in 2016 by a group of committed military veterans with experience in franchising, the VFC has since played a pivotal role in connecting veterans with franchise opportunities and the resources needed to thrive in the franchising sector.
The VFC fulfills its mission through a range of vital initiatives and strategic partnerships:
1. Franchise Discounts: The VFC collaborates with participating franchise brands to offer substantial discounts on franchise fees to veterans. These financial incentives significantly reduce the financial barriers to entry.
2. Education and Support: The council provides education and support to help veterans navigate the complexities of franchising, from selecting the right franchise to day-to-day business management.
3. Access to Essential Resources: The VFC connects veterans with critical resources, including funding options, mentorship programs, and guidance on business planning and operations.
4. Advocacy and Outreach: The VFC advocates for veterans' interests, ensuring that they receive the support they need.
5. Building a Network: The council facilitates networking opportunities, allowing veterans to form relationships and collaborate within a supportive community. This network is a place to share experiences and knowledge.

A PROGRAM THAT GIVES VETERANS $10,000 TO START A BUSINESS WHEN THEY GO THROUGH THE VFC PROGRAM TO LEARN ABOUT BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES.
BET ON A VET INITIATIVE
The VFC has a commendable track record of turning veterans' dreams into reality. With the pragmatic orientation of those who have served, the VFC raised a program that gives veterans $10,000 to start a business when they go through the VFC program to learn about business opportunities. Many veterans who have embraced the program have gone on to become thriving franchise business owners. These veterans not only secure their financial futures but also contribute to their communities by creating jobs and delivering valuable products and services.
The Veterans Franchise Council remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting veterans. With continued assistance and a robust network, veterans can confidently embark on their entrepreneurial journeys, knowing they have the resources and like-minded peers behind them.
The Veterans Franchise Council is not just a group of veterans engaged in franchising; it is a lifeline for veterans who aspire to pursue franchise ownership. By offering discounts, education, resources, advocacy, and a strong network, the VFC empowers veterans to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality. It's a testament to the indomitable spirit and skills of veterans when provided with the right support and opportunities, reaffirming their position as invaluable assets in the world of franchising.
Franchising provides a potential transition for veterans looking to adapt to civilian life while building personal wealth. The structured framework of franchises enables veterans to thrive, offering both autonomy and the safety net of a tested business model.
WHY VETERANS EXCEL IN FRANCHISING
1. Leadership and Team Management: Military service teaches veterans how to lead under pressure, a crucial skill for running franchise operations. Whether managing staff or navigating daily challenges, veterans bring a leadership style that fosters accountability and high performance.
2. Comfort with Systems and Processes: The military emphasizes adherence to protocols— veterans understand the importance of following well-designed processes. This makes them ideal candidates for franchises, which rely on consistency across locations to maintain brand quality and customer experience.
3. Resilience and Adaptability: Veterans are accustomed to high-pressure environments and know how to adapt quickly when circumstances change. This flexibility serves them well as franchise owners, where market trends and consumer needs can shift unexpectedly.
4. A Strong Sense of Community Engagement: Many veterans are motivated by a desire to continue serving their communities after leaving the military. Franchise businesses provide a platform for giving back, whether through employment opportunities, charitable efforts, or local partnerships. Companies like Sport Clips Haircuts, for example, actively engage veterans through scholarship programs and complimentary services on Veterans Day.
FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITIES TAILORED FOR VETERANS
Franchises recognize the value that veterans bring and have created incentive programs to attract them. Through VetFran, over 600 companies offer financial discounts, mentorship, and specialized training to help veterans transition smoothly into ownership roles. Many franchises extend discounts to military spouses, recognizing the broader challenges military families face, such as frequent relocations and employment instability.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also
supports veterans in entrepreneurship through initiatives like the Veterans Business Outreach Program and access to loans tailored for business owners. These initiatives reduce financial barriers and help veterans establish profitable franchise operations.
A PATHWAY TO STABILITY AND GROWTH
For veterans seeking a structured yet entrepreneurial path, franchising offers the perfect balance. It provides an opportunity to build personal wealth while relying on a proven business model with corporate support. The franchise framework ensures that veterans aren’t starting from scratch, making the journey toward financial independence more achievable. Furthermore, veterans often succeed as franchisees by reinvesting their unique strengths in businesses that align with their values, whether in food services, fitness, or home services.
THE FUTURE OF VETERANS IN FRANCHISING
As the franchising industry grows, programs like VetFran are expanding their reach to support more veterans and military families. The industry’s commitment to fostering veteran entrepreneurs not only benefits individuals but also strengthens communities. By creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable businesses, veteran franchisees are building legacies that will impact future generations.
To learn more about resources and opportunities for veterans in franchising, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ franchising support page.
Veterans have already proven their ability to serve the country—now, they’re demonstrating how that same dedication can translate into success in the business world. With support from the franchising community and programs designed to ease their transition, veterans are well on their way to becoming a formidable force in entrepreneurship.

From Service to Success: Veterans Thriving in Franchising
by Seth Lederman, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
The transition from military service to civilian life can be challenging. Many seek opportunities to leverage their unique skills, including leadership, discipline, teamwork, and a missionoriented mindset. These traits, honed through years of service, align closely with the qualities needed to succeed in franchising. Not surprisingly, about 15% of franchisees are owned by a military veteran— or one in seven franchises. And veterans are very much in demand by franchisors. A VetFran survey found that 97% of franchisors state veterans make excellent franchisees, explaining the more than 650 franchise systems that offer considerable financial incentives to veterans.
As franchisees, veterans lead teams, follow proven business processes, and work towards clear business goals—all within a supportive framework. Franchising offers a sense of purpose that resonates with veterans, helping them navigate the post-service transition successfully.
THE TRANSITION FROM MILITARY TO CIVILIAN LIFE
Leaving the military often means leaving behind a highly structured environment with a strong sense of camaraderie. This

transition can be daunting for many veterans, who may need help finding a similar sense of purpose and belonging in civilian roles. The shift to civilian life often brings a less disciplined environment, and many veterans face the challenge of adjusting to this new normal. Without a clear mission, some may feel a sense of aimlessness or frustration.
Franchising can provide an ideal pathway for veterans by offering a structured business model with a clear mission and set of goals. Franchisees benefit from established processes, brand recognition, and ongoing support—all elements that can help veterans reenter the civilian world. The franchise model combines the autonomy of business ownership with a familiar framework, offering a great balance between independence and guidance that veterans need to thrive.
WHY VETERANS ARE DRAWN TO FRANCHISING
Military service fosters resilience, adaptability, and resourcefulness, all of which are critical traits for successful entrepreneurs. Veterans are accustomed to overcoming obstacles, working in high-pressure environments, and adapting to constantly changing situations. In franchising, these skills translate directly into leading a business, managing a team, and ensuring operational efficiency. And best of all, owning a franchise doesn’t require any previous business experience.
Moreover, veterans often excel at building and managing teams. Military experience teaches how to motivate individuals towards a common goal, a skill that is invaluable when running a franchise. Veterans also have a natural advantage in the ability to optimize processes and work within a defined system. In a franchise setting, following a proven model and adhering to established guidelines is crucial for success, making veterans an excellent fit.

PROVEN SUCCESS AND VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Bet on a Vet 100: Empowering Veterans to Own a Franchise
by Joe Griffith II, 3rd Generation Military Veteran, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
The FCC Veterans Franchise Council has launched a $1,000,000 financial initiative to support veterans aspiring to own their own business. As part of this initiative, the first 100 veterans who qualify can receive up to $10,000 to help make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality. FACT: 1 in 7 franchises is owned by a veteran, and these franchises span a wide range of industries, including pets, fitness, healthcare, food & beverage, home services, technology, security, and automotive, among many others. Bet on a Vet 100 seeks to empower even more veterans to take that step into franchise ownership and build successful businesses. Veterans have demonstrated leadership, discipline, and resilience throughout their military careers, and these same traits make them natural entrepreneurs. Franchising offers a unique opportunity for veterans to take control of their financial future while continuing to serve their communities in new and meaningful ways. By participating in Bet on a Vet 100, veterans not only receive the financial backing they need but are also inspired to use their skills to create thriving businesses that contribute to local economic growth.
STEPS IN THE PROCESS
When a veteran expresses interest in franchise ownership and applies for the $10,000 seed money, we begin with a short questionnaire to determine their business interests, timeline, and financial situation. This personalized approach allows us to better understand the veteran’s unique goals and capabilities. From there, we work closely with the veteran to identify franchises that align with their interests, skills, location, and family needs. Finding the right franchise is the first critical step toward securing the financial award.
To qualify for this initiative, the applicant must be an honorably discharged U.S. military veteran or an active member of the U.S. military. They must complete the intake questionnaire and work directly with a Veterans Franchise Council (VFC) participating member consultant throughout the process. After qualifying for a franchise, the veteran is officially registered with that franchisor through the VFC consultant, and once the franchise purchase is completed, the seed money is awarded.
As we help veterans navigate
through hundreds of franchise opportunities, they gain a clearer understanding of which business models best fit their personal situation. This tailored support ensures that each veteran is not only matched with the right franchise but is also well-equipped to succeed in business ownership.
THE IMPACT OF VETERANOWNED FRANCHISES
Veteran-owned businesses have a powerful impact on their communities. Veterans bring a strong sense of duty and commitment to everything they do, and as business owners, they are focused on success and making a positive difference. Through Bet on a Vet 100, we aim to continue inspiring veterans to pursue their entrepreneurial goals, fostering economic growth, and creating opportunities for others.
By supporting veterans in their pursuit of franchise ownership, we are not only helping individuals achieve financial independence but also contributing to the vitality of local economies. Veteran-owned franchises often create jobs, provide valuable services, and serve as beacons of leadership within their communities.
Bet on a Vet 100 is an extraordinary opportunity for veterans to take the next step in their journey of service—this time, as business owners. By providing financial assistance, guidance, and access to resources, we empower veterans to thrive as franchisees. The skills they honed in the military translate seamlessly into entrepreneurship, and with the support of the FCC Veterans Franchise Council, veterans are well-positioned to succeed.
With 1 in 7 franchises already owned by veterans, Bet on a Vet 100 is set to expand that number and help more veterans achieve their dreams of business ownership. Let’s continue to bet on our veterans and invest in their future as they embark on this new mission, creating thriving businesses and continuing to serve their communities with pride.

A Franchise on the Cutting Edge

Shattered Glass Art Studio SRQ has taken DIY to the next level of art creation.
This isn't your average art class. Here, cut and tumbled glass lend its brilliant colors and transformative powers to its clients. They create custom art masterpieces every time, and have an experience that they want to share with family and friends.
Husband and wife team Kevin and Nicole Berry opened their first Shattered Glass Art Studio in 2021. Kevin, an Army infantry combat veteran, had been struggling with posttraumatic stress disorder, and his therapist encouraged him to take up art therapy. “Nicole got me into doing art pieces and noticed that creating things put me in a good frame of mind and took my mind off the bad things I’d been through,” says Kevin, “and she decided it would be best if I stayed in that environment and opened a studio.” His wife Nicole harbors a deep appreciation for the visual arts. She was born and raised in Berlin, a city renowned for its innovative art scene.
The core of owning your own Shattered Glass franchise is a vision centered around building a strong and thriving business that provides a haven for creativity, craftsmanship, and self-expression. Customer
experience is key: provide a positive and enjoyable experience for customers by creating a welcoming and creatively inspiring environment.
Shattered Glass seeks to create a personal connection with their customers. They
offer a variety of classes that are time efficient and cost effective, holding small classes multiple times a day. They are staffed to be able to give oneon-one attention to everyone coming through their doors. Clients select classes like Glass Art Class or Shell Art
Class, where they can create whatever their heart desires, from brightly colored birds and flowers to an abstract. In the Charcuterie Board/ Box Frame Resin Pour Class, students select from premium wooden boards designed by the Berrys. Clients complete a food-grade, nontoxic resin design on the board that is safe for use as well as being displayed in their homes.
There are also classes for couples on a date, kids aged 6 and up, and parent/child collaborations. Once a client is in class, it’s time to get gloves and safety glasses on and learn how to cut and create glass to make some of the most beautiful 3D art you have ever seen. Clients can also create beautiful ocean wave-inspired coasters and ornaments. They pick up their works of art after completion of the class or the next business day, based on resin drying time.
The goal is for clients to grow more confident in their artistic and creative abilities throughout the classes. Students develop into artists, with many becoming repeat clients, eager to tackle new projects. “You forget about your worries and stress because you’re so into what you’re doing,” adds Nicole. “It’s therapeutic, and you’re immersed in making something come alive into the world through your own creativity.”
The franchise can be owner
operated or manager run. Talented local artists make great staff. As a veteran, Kevin is focused on an organized set of operations with duplicable results and is a wonderful mentor. It's one of the most creative, profitable, low-cost franchise options available today. Visit ownadiyartstudio. com and check out some beautiful creations and learn more about this exciting franchise opportunity.

Franchises Empowering Veterans: A Path to Entrepreneurship
by Steve Sparks, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
For many veterans, the transition from military service to civilian life can be a daunting one. Finding a new career that allows them to use their skills and leadership can be challenging. That’s why more veterans are turning to franchise ownership as a way to start their own business while benefiting from a proven system. One franchise paving the way is FastSigns, which offers a 50% reduction in franchise fees for veterans and first responders, giving them a clear path to becoming their own boss.
WHY VETERANS MAKE GREAT FRANCHISE OWNERS
Veterans are naturally suited to franchise ownership because of the skills they honed during their time in the military. Leadership, discipline, teamwork, and the ability to stick to a plan under pressure are all crucial to running a successful business. Franchises provide a structured environment, which mirrors the organized systems that veterans are used to from their service. Following a franchise’s proven business model takes away some of the risks, letting veterans focus on building and growing their business. One of the reasons franchising works so well for veterans is that they’re used
to following processes and working within a chain of command. In a franchise, this translates perfectly to following the operational procedures set by the franchise brand, which is a key part of success.
HOW FASTSIGNS SUPPORTS VETERANS
FastSigns, a leader in visual communications, has gone the extra mile in supporting veterans. They offer a 50% reduction in the franchise fee for veterans and first responders, making it more affordable to own a FastSigns location. But the support doesn’t stop there. FastSigns offers
thorough training and ongoing guidance to help franchisees succeed, even if they have no prior business experience. From marketing and sales to operations, FastSigns ensures veterans get everything they need to build a thriving business. The average FastSigns location generates $1.2 million in revenue, and with a team of over 120 corporate employees supporting more than 775 locations, franchisees have plenty of resources to lean on.
VETERAN SUCCESS STORIES AT FASTSIGNS
Veterans who have joined the FastSigns franchise family are seeing great success, using the leadership skills and discipline they developed in the military to run their businesses.
Managing staff, marketing their services, and overseeing daily operations come naturally to them.
What’s more, FastSigns franchisees benefit from being part of a tight-knit community. Many locations are owned by veterans, creating a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. This network of fellow veterans provides a valuable support system that helps ease the transition into business ownership.
WHY FRANCHISING IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR VETERANS
Franchising offers veterans the chance to be their own boss while still benefiting from the support of a larger organization. It’s the best of both worlds— freedom and structure. FastSigns makes the process easier with their extensive resources, training, and a clear roadmap for success.
For veterans and first responders looking for a rewarding post-service career, FastSigns offers a powerful opportunity. Not only can they build a successful business, but they also get the chance to serve their communities in a new way. Whether it’s helping local businesses with their signage needs or creating jobs
in the community, FastSigns franchisees are making a real impact.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR VETERAN FRANCHISE OWNERS
FastSigns is leading the charge in supporting veterans and first responders who want to become entrepreneurs. By offering a 50% reduction in franchise fees and providing ongoing support, they’re removing the biggest barriers to entry and setting veterans up for success.
For any veteran looking for the next step in their career, franchising offers a unique
blend of independence and structure. With the potential to generate $1.2 million in revenue per location and a team of over 120 corporate employees backing 775+ locations, FastSigns is an ideal choice. More than just a business opportunity, it’s a chance to build a legacy and take on a new mission after serving the country.

The Veteran Advantage: How Military Skills Lead to Franchise Success
by Bob Hays, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
Military veterans have made a significant mark in the world of business franchise ownership, capitalizing on the unique skills, experiences, and discipline they cultivated during their time in service. Veterans are well-suited
to thrive in franchising, as the structure, systems, and support provided by franchises align with the operational frameworks they mastered in the military. These qualities— strong leadership, a resultsdriven mindset, adaptability, and a commitment to
following procedures— are foundational to both military life and successful business operations.
Franchising offers a path for veterans who are looking to transition from service into the civilian workforce while
maintaining the leadership and team-management roles they excelled at during their military careers. Franchises, by design, provide an established business model, ongoing support, and a roadmap to success, making them a natural fit for veterans.
Many veterans can transition smoothly into business ownership. Franchises offer a way to leverage the leadership and organizational skills gained during their service, leading to higher success rates than average entrepreneurs. There’s a reason why 1 out of every 7 franchises is veteran-owned.
Several military veterans have demonstrated just how successful this transition to franchise ownership can be:
1. Joe Doherty, a retired U.S. Army colonel with 26 years of service, found his second career in franchising with The UPS Store. Initially starting with one location, Joe quickly expanded his business and now operates several UPS Store locations. His military background in leadership and discipline helped him excel as a multi-unit franchise owner.
2. Greg Goodwin, a U.S. Navy veteran, discovered his entrepreneurial calling with Sport Clips. Greg’s experience in the Navy instilled the discipline and leadership needed to navigate the highly competitive franchise landscape. He opened his first Sport Clips location in 2009 and rapidly expanded, becoming a multi-unit franchisee.
3. Jim Finn, a former Army intelligence officer and Green Beret, entered the world of

franchising with FASTSIGNS. Jim’s background in military intelligence provided him with the analytical and strategic thinking skills needed to thrive in the signage and graphics industry. He successfully expanded his business into multiple locations and took on leadership roles within the franchise system, showcasing how veterans can leverage their military skills to excel as franchise owners and leaders. These success stories underscore how military veterans are uniquely positioned to thrive as franchise owners..
THE LEADERSHIP EDGE
One of the most significant assets veterans bring to the table is their leadership experience. In the military, veterans are trained to
manage teams, make critical decisions under pressure, and follow strict systems to ensure mission success. These skills translate directly into franchise ownership, where the ability to lead by example, build cohesive teams, and maintain accountability are crucial for success.
Their adaptability, another key skill developed during their time in service, enables them to overcome challenges in the franchise world with confidence. Whether it’s handling operational challenges, managing employees, or making quick decisions, veterans have the leadership foundation needed to succeed.
NOT ALWAYS SMOOTH SAILING
However, the transition from military life to civilian business ownership is not without its challenges. Despite the leadership and discipline that veterans bring with them, many face difficulties when adapting to the civilian business environment. Business success often relies on skills such as marketing, financial management, and customer relations—areas that may not be as familiar to veterans coming from military backgrounds.
Additionally, veterans may encounter complexities in navigating legal and regulatory hurdles, securing financing, and building professional networks, all of which are critical for a successful business venture. Financing can be a particular challenge, as some veterans may struggle
to access capital or meet the financial requirements of certain franchise opportunities due to limited credit history or liquidity.
Another challenge is finding the right franchise that aligns with a veteran’s skills, interests, and financial situation. With so many franchise options available, it can be overwhelming to determine which one is the best fit. Veterans are encouraged to carefully research and consider franchise opportunities that align with their leadership skills, work experience, and long-term goals.
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
Fortunately, there are many resources available to help
veterans overcome these challenges. Several franchisors recognize the value that veterans bring to franchise ownership and offer specialized support and programs tailored to military veterans. This includes financial incentives, such as discounts on franchise fees, access to veteranspecific financing options, and comprehensive training programs.
Mentorship programs, which pair veteran entrepreneurs with experienced franchise owners, also provide valuable guidance. These mentors can help veterans navigate the complexities of franchise ownership, offering insights into the legal, financial, and operational aspects of running
a business. This support system ensures that veterans can successfully transition into the world of entrepreneurship and make well-informed decisions along the way.
Additionally, there are financing programs specifically designed for veterans, including low-interest loans and grants. These resources help veterans overcome the financial barriers that can often stand in the way of franchise ownership.
Working with a franchise consultant can provide even more advantages for veterans interested in franchising. Franchise consultants help aspiring veteran business owners identify franchises that align with their individual interests, skills, and financial goals. Finding Fulfillment in Franchise Ownership: A New Chapter for Military Veterans
by Charles Deitrick, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
Transitioning from military service to civilian life can be both exciting and challenging for veterans. Many seek career paths offering structure, independence, and purpose while utilizing leadership and organizational skills honed in the military. For a growing number of veterans, franchise ownership offers an ideal solution, combining business ownership with a proven framework. Just as veterans prepared for their military missions, preparation is also essential for thriving in franchise ownership.
WHY FRANCHISE OWNERSHIP APPEALS TO VETERANS
1. Structured Systems and Proven Processes
Franchise systems are built on established business models, providing a sense of structure that resonates with veterans accustomed to following procedures and operating within a chain of command. A franchise offers a clear roadmap, training, and ongoing support, which reduces the uncertainty of starting a business from scratch.
2. Leadership Skills Translate Seamlessly
Veterans bring transferable skills to the business world, including leadership, discipline, decision-making, and the ability to adapt under pressure. These skills are essential in running a franchise, which often involves managing employees, setting goals, and overcoming challenges. Veterans' mission-oriented focus also helps them commit to their business's long-term success.
3. Support and Camaraderie
Many veterans miss the camaraderie and teamwork of military service. Franchises, particularly those that actively recruit veterans, can provide a sense of community and shared purpose. Some brands even offer veterans-only networks within their franchise systems, helping veteran owners find support among peers who understand their unique challenges.
4. Franchise Incentives for Veterans
Many franchisors actively seek veterans as franchise owners and offer incentives like discounts on franchise fees, training, and start-up costs. This financial support makes
franchise ownership more accessible for veterans who may hesitate to invest in a business. The Franchise Consulting Company, for instance, connects veterans with franchisors offering these benefits.
PREPARING FOR FRANCHISE OWNERSHIP BEFORE LEAVING THE MILITARY
Although franchise ownership offers many advantages, jumping into business ownership right after leaving the military can be overwhelming. To ensure a smoother transition, veterans should prepare by taking the following steps:
1. Research Franchise Opportunities
Veterans can explore franchise options before or after their separation date. With thousands of brands—from fast-food chains to home services and fitness studios— narrowing down industries aligned with personal interests and skills is crucial. Veterans can attend franchise expos, research online, and reach out to consultants like Charles Deitrick from The Franchise Consulting Company, who guides veterans toward franchises that actively support veteran owners.
2. Understand the Financial Commitment
Franchise ownership comes with upfront costs, including franchise fees, start-up expenses, and royalty payments. Veterans should assess their financial readiness, including personal savings and funding options. Fortunately, there are funding opportunities
specifically for veterans, such as Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, veteran-specific loans, and franchisor financing options. Many franchisors offer discounts to veterans on franchise fees.
3. Utilize Transition Assistance Programs (TAP)
The Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Programs (TAP) help service members prepare for civilian life. While TAP generally covers job searching and resume writing, veterans interested in business ownership should focus on entrepreneurship resources. TAP offers guidance on SBA loans, finding a mentor through SCORE, and accessing veteran entrepreneurship programs.
4. Develop a Business Plan
Although franchises provide a framework, veterans need a business plan to guide decisions and secure funding. A solid business plan includes details about the specific franchise, market analysis, financial projections, and growth strategies. Veterans can leverage their military planning experience to create a strong business plan, and numerous veteran-focused resources are available to help.
5.
Seek Mentorship and Training
It is essential to gain practical experience in the franchise industry. Veterans should consider working in the type of business they’re interested in before investing. This allows them to form relationships with franchise owners, gain insights into daily operations, and determine if the business
is the right fit. Some veterans also pursue business management education to better handle the financial and operational aspects of franchise ownership.
6. Plan for the Personal Transition
Transitioning to civilian entrepreneurship can be challenging on a personal level. Veterans should consider how business ownership might affect their work-life balance, family dynamics, and mental health. Building a strong support system, whether through veteran networks, fellow franchisees, or family, can help ease this transition. Franchise ownership offers veterans a fulfilling and structured path to entrepreneurship, allowing them to apply their leadership and operational skills in a civilian environment. With careful planning and preparation, veterans can find success and purpose as franchise owners, building thriving businesses aligned with their personal and professional goals. By researching opportunities, understanding the financial landscape, and seeking mentorship, veterans can successfully transition to civilian life and create a new mission for themselves in business.

Veterans Already Have the Skills to be Successful Franchise Owners!
by Joe Fox, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
As the son of a veteran who served a full 30-year career in the military (Marine Corp & Army), I grew up with a profound respect for those who serve and have served our country. Veterans come from all walks of life, bringing with them a diverse set of skills honed through years of dedication and sacrifice. These very skills, developed throughout their military service, are often what make veterans uniquely equipped to succeed in franchise business ownership.
Recently, I had the opportunity to assist one of my veteran clients, MG, in exploring various franchise options. After evaluating several possibilities, he decided to acquire three territories in Texas for Strickland Brothers 10 Minute Oil Change. This decision was not just about finding a business but finding a fit that allowed him to leverage the strengths he gained from his military career.
THE SKILL SET OF VETERANS
Military service instills values and disciplines that are directly transferrable to franchise ownership. Veterans develop a keen sense of responsibility, leadership, and a strong work ethic, all of which are essential for running a successful
business. MG summed it up perfectly when he said, "As a veteran, you have the requisite skills and behaviors to be successful in a franchise. You have self-discipline, a sense of purpose, and drive to succeed, and you understand team dynamics."
SELF-DISCIPLINE AND PURPOSE
One of the most valuable traits veterans bring to the table is self-discipline. In the military, the ability to follow a plan, remain committed to a mission, and adapt to changing circumstances is critical. These qualities are vital for franchise ownership, where following established systems, protocols, and best practices can be the key to success. Franchises offer a structured model for operation, which
aligns well with the regimented approach many veterans are accustomed to.
Veterans also possess a strong sense of purpose. In the military, every mission has a goal, and every soldier plays a role in achieving it. This mission-driven mindset translates directly to business ownership. A veteran's desire to succeed is not just about personal gain; it is about fulfilling a purpose, whether it be serving their customers, supporting their team, or contributing to their community. MG’s choice of Strickland Brothers, with its focus on customer service and servant leadership, was a natural extension of his desire to serve others.
TEAM DYNAMICS AND LEADERSHIP
Another vital skill veterans possess is an understanding of team dynamics and leadership. In the military, success depends on working together as a cohesive unit. Veterans are skilled at building and leading teams, a trait that is critical when running a franchise. Franchise owners must assemble, train, and motivate a team of employees to ensure the smooth operation of the business.
MG emphasized this point, stating, "You will be running your own business and leading a fantastic team of individuals that you assemble." Veterans are often well-versed in managing people from diverse backgrounds, ensuring everyone works toward a common goal. In the business world, this translates to creating a positive and productive work environment that benefits both employees and customers.
SYSTEMS AND PROTOCOLS
While veterans may not always have extensive business experience, franchising offers a unique advantage. Franchise models come with established systems and protocols designed to help owners succeed. MG highlighted this aspect when he said, "Even if you have not spent much time in business, the benefit of a good franchise is the protocols and systems they provide for your success."
For veterans used to following procedures and guidelines, the structured nature of a franchise can be a perfect fit. Strickland Brothers, for example, provides its franchisees with tools such as point-of-sale systems and metrics for success. Veterans can quickly learn the business
side of things by utilizing these resources, combining their own hard work and dedication with the support offered by the franchise.
A CALCULATED RISK WITH GREAT REWARDS
For many veterans, transitioning to civilian life can be challenging. Finding a career that offers the same sense of fulfillment and purpose they experienced in the military is not always easy. However, franchise ownership presents an opportunity to continue serving—this time, serving their community. Veterans understand the value of taking calculated risks, and owning a franchise can be one of the most rewarding risks they take.
As MG explained, "Taking this calculated risk is well
worth the rewards and a great way to continue to serve your neighborhood, your state, and your nation." For veterans, franchise ownership is not just about running a business; it’s about leading a team, providing for their family, and making a positive impact in their local community.
VETERANS MAKE GREAT FRANCHISE OWNERS
Veterans possess the skills and traits necessary to succeed in franchise ownership. Their selfdiscipline, leadership abilities, and understanding of team dynamics make them ideal candidates for the structured, supportive environment that franchises provide. As MG’s story demonstrates, veterans have the potential to excel as franchise business owners, while continuing to serve their community in meaningful ways. If you are a veteran seeking your next career mission, consider the franchise opportunities available to you. With the right support and a strong work ethic, you can achieve success as a franchise owner, using the very skills that made you a successful service member.

A PATHWAY TO SUCCESS: Why Franchises are a Great Fit for U.S. Military Veterans
by Steve Taylor, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
U.S. military veterans bring a unique set of skills and experiences to the civilian workforce, making them valuable assets in various industries. Franchising offers a structured, supportive business model that aligns closely with the qualities and training veterans receive during their military service. The discipline, leadership, and teamwork that are hallmarks of military life translate well into running a franchise.
STRUCTURED SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES
Military service is defined by structure, discipline, and following established protocols—qualities that are central to the franchise business model. A franchise offers veterans a clear, step-by-step blueprint for running a business. Franchisors provide detailed instructions on everything from operations to marketing, reducing the uncertainty and risk involved in starting a business from scratch.
Veterans, who are trained to follow procedures and execute tasks with precision, thrive in environments where there is a defined system to follow. This allows them to apply their skills
in a way that minimizes risk while still offering the rewards of business ownership.
LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK
Leadership and teamwork are two of the most important qualities in both the military and in business. Veterans are trained to lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and maintain morale, all while working toward a common objective. These leadership qualities directly translate to running a franchise, where owners are responsible for managing employees, maintaining high standards, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Franchise owners must also work collaboratively, not only with their teams but with the larger franchise network. Veterans excel at building a strong internal culture within their franchise.
ADAPTABILITY AND PROBLEM-SOLVING
The ability to adapt and overcome challenges is something all veterans learn through their military training. Whether on the battlefield or in everyday operations, military personnel are taught to assess situations quickly, think
critically, and make decisions under pressure. These problem-solving skills are invaluable in the business world, where franchise owners must be prepared to navigate market changes, operational hurdles, and customer service challenges.
Running a franchise, while offering many support systems, still requires flexibility and adaptability. Veterans’ experience in thinking on their feet and finding solutions in dynamic environments gives them a competitive edge.
FRANCHISE SUPPORT AND TRAINING
One of the biggest advantages of franchising is the support and training offered by the franchisor. Unlike starting an independent business, where the entrepreneur must figure out everything on their own, franchising offers a wealth of resources designed to help franchisees succeed. Franchisors provide initial training programs that cover all aspects of the business, from operations to financial management, ensuring franchisees have the tools they need to run a successful enterprise.
Veterans, who are used to undergoing rigorous training in the military, are well-suited to these structured learning environments. They can quickly absorb the information provided by the franchisor and apply it effectively to their business.
FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR VETERANS
Many franchisors recognize the value that veterans bring to their systems and offer financial incentives to make franchise ownership more accessible. Many individual franchises provide veterans with discounts on franchise fees, royalty reductions, and other incentives . . . some worth many thousands of dollars. These financial breaks make it easier for veterans to enter the franchise space and reduce some of the initial capital needed to start a business. For example, QuickMountTV is currently waiving the franchise fee ($49,500) for qualified veterans. It is important veterans’
research incentives and have access to the most current information.
COMMUNITY AND CAMARADERIE
One of the aspects of military life that many veterans miss after transitioning to civilian life is the sense of camaraderie and belonging that comes from being part of a closeknit unit. Franchising can help replicate that feeling of community. Many franchise systems foster a collaborative environment where franchisees can network, share experiences, and support one another. This sense of belonging is particularly appealing to veterans, who value teamwork and collaboration.
Veterans also find that franchise networks offer a built-in support system, similar to the camaraderie they experienced in the military. The shared goal of growing the franchise and supporting the brand fosters a sense of unity among franchisees.
A NATURAL FIT FOR SUCCESS
Franchising offers U.S. military veterans a unique opportunity to leverage their skills and experiences in a business environment that aligns with their strengths. The structured systems, leadership demands, and emphasis on teamwork found in franchising mirror the qualities veterans develop during their military service. In addition, the financial incentives and comprehensive support provided by many franchisors make franchise ownership an attractive and accessible option for veterans. For veterans seeking a new mission after military service, franchising offers a proven path to success, allowing them to continue serving their communities as business leaders, job creators, and role models.

From Nuclear Propulsion to Flooring Innovations: Keith Ouellette’s Journey
This U.S. Navy Veteran Set up a Legacy Business with Floor Coverings International
by Rhonda Sanderson, CEO, Sanderson & Associates
In a remarkable transition from a 28-year tenure in the U.S. Navy to the helm of a thriving franchise, Keith Ouellette, a seasoned veteran of nuclear propulsion and a former program manager for naval engineering projects, embarked on a new mission last June to bring quality flooring solutions to the Tampa area. His venture is not just a business but a family legacy, with his son Zachary joining forces to learn the ropes and build a future in home improvement.
Reflecting on his career shift, Ouellette shares, “Leaving the structured environment of the military was a leap of faith. I wanted to connect with my community and make a tangible impact. Floor Coverings International inspired me with their vision, and now, alongside my son, we’re turning that vision into reality.”
Keith Ouellette’s career in the U.S. Navy was marked by dedication, discipline, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. Specializing in nuclear propulsion, he was responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of naval
reactors, a role that required meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of complex engineering systems. Over the years, he managed various projects, coordinated with multidisciplinary teams, and played a critical part in advancing naval engineering standards.
His tenure in the Navy not only honed his technical skills but also instilled in him a keen sense of leadership and strategic thinking. These attributes have been
instrumental as he navigates the entrepreneurial waters of the flooring industry.
Floor Coverings International, known for its innovative approach and customercentric model, piqued Keith's interest as he sought a new career path post-retirement. The company’s commitment to quality and its wide range of flooring options resonated with his values and vision for a future business. Keith’s meticulous nature and eye for detail, refined during his naval career,
"FLOOR COVERINGS INTERNATIONAL INSPIRED ME WITH THEIR VISION, AND NOW, ALONGSIDE MY SON, WE’RE TURNING THAT VISION INTO REALITY.”
seamlessly translated into his new role as a franchise owner, where precision and customer satisfaction are paramount.
With his mobile flooring showroom, Keith is not merely selling flooring solutions; he is building a legacy. His son, Zachary, is actively involved in the business, learning the intricacies of the trade, and preparing to carry the torch forward. This father-son duo is determined to make Floor Coverings International a household name in the Tampa area.
With Floor Coverings International having already revolutionized the market, the flooring industry is undergoing significant changes and innovations as well, as consumers demand more quality, variety, and sustainability in their flooring choices. Current market conditions are also factoring into when and why consumers decide to invest in new flooring.
According to U.S. Bank, the housing market continues to be strongly affected by elevated interest rates.
Higher rates, combined with rising home values,
— Keith Ouellette
mean housing is now a much costlier expense for potential buyers than was the case only a few years ago, it reported. As a result, people might be choosing to stay in their current homes and remodel, rather than move.
The big flooring favorites throughout the system? Petand kid-friendly floors that clean up with one mopping and look like genuine wood. Favorites in the Florida market include:
• Durable and easy-tomaintain vinyl planks.
• Eco-friendly bamboo flooring
• Luxurious yet resilient carpet options
Keith notes, “Our clients are looking for solutions that not only enhance the aesthetic of their homes but also contribute to a sustainable future. We are committed to providing options that meet these needs and exceed expectations.”
As Keith and Zachary continue to grow their business, their focus
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
remains steadfast on quality, innovation, and community engagement. Keith’s journey from the disciplined life of the Navy to the dynamic world of entrepreneurship is a testament to the power of adaptability and vision.
“Our goal is to build a business that not only thrives commercially but also leaves a lasting impact on our community,” Keith concludes. With a solid foundation and a clear vision, the Ouellettes are well on their way to achieving that goal, setting a new standard in the flooring industry one step at a time.

Why Franchising is a Great Fit for Military Veterans
by Rudy Frederico, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
Franchising has become an attractive option for many individuals seeking to become entrepreneurs, and it holds particular appeal for military veterans. Veterans possess a unique set of skills, including discipline, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to following established systems—qualities that make them well-suited for success in the franchising world. In this article, we'll explore why franchising is a natural fit for veterans and how their military training can translate to thriving franchise ownership.
THE STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT OF FRANCHISING
One of the most defining characteristics of franchising is its systematized approach to business. Franchisors provide franchisees with a proven model, including training, marketing strategies, and operational procedures. This allows franchisees to focus on execution rather than having to build a business from the ground up.
For veterans, this structured environment is familiar. Military life is grounded in following established processes and systems that have been honed through years of experience
FRANCHISING OFFERS VETERANS THE PERFECT
OPPORTUNITY TO LEVERAGE THEIR
MILITARY TRAINING IN A CIVILIAN BUSINESS SETTING.
and best practices. Veterans are trained to operate within clear chains of command and follow detailed protocols to achieve success. In franchising, this ability to follow a system is
crucial. Veterans understand the importance of adhering to established methods to ensure that goals are met efficiently and effectively. Their comfort with procedures, checklists,
and standardized operations makes them a perfect fit for franchising, where consistency is key to brand success.
DISCIPLINE AND LEADERSHIP
In the military, discipline is non-negotiable. Whether it’s maintaining equipment, following strategic plans, or adhering to a rigorous training schedule, veterans are trained to stay focused and disciplined, even in highpressure situations. This quality translates seamlessly into franchising, where running a successful business requires staying committed to daily tasks and long-term goals. Veterans are also natural leaders. While military life emphasizes the importance of following orders, it also cultivates leadership at every level. Veterans are often responsible for managing teams, making quick decisions under stress, and adapting to changing circumstances. In franchising, these leadership skills are invaluable. Franchisees must manage employees, handle customer relations, and ensure smooth operations. Veterans are equipped to step into these roles with confidence, often excelling at motivating teams and driving results.
STRONG WORK ETHIC AND RESILIENCE
Military veterans possess a
strong work ethic forged through years of demanding training and challenging environments. They are accustomed to long hours, hard work, and the need to persevere in the face of adversity. These qualities are essential in franchising, where new business owners often face challenges and need the tenacity to overcome obstacles. Additionally, veterans’ experience in high-pressure, unpredictable situations gives them a unique resilience. Whether they are adapting to a new environment or responding to unforeseen challenges, veterans are trained to remain calm and focused. In franchising, where market conditions can change and unexpected hurdles can arise, this resilience can mean the difference between success and failure.
SUPPORT FOR VETERAN FRANCHISEES
Many franchisors recognize the qualities that make veterans ideal franchisees and actively seek to recruit them. Programs such as the International Franchise Association’s (IFA) VetFran initiative offer veterans discounted franchise fees, training, and support to help them transition from military service to franchise ownership. This support network provides an additional layer of opportunity for veterans to succeed in franchising,
knowing that their skills and experiences are valued and respected by franchisors.
Franchising offers veterans the perfect opportunity to leverage their military training in a civilian business setting. Their ability to follow a system, coupled with their leadership, discipline, and resilience, makes them ideal candidates for franchise ownership. As more veterans explore entrepreneurship, franchising continues to be a natural and rewarding pathway for them to transition into successful business ownership. For veterans looking to take control of their financial future, franchising is an ideal fit that offers both structure and opportunity.
The next step is to reach out and leverage the resources that are available to find your best-fit franchise. That’s where a good franchise consultant comes into play. A consultant can help you narrow the search and help identify brands that fit individual skill sets, budgets and overall goals related to business ownership. My name is Rudy Frederico and I help veteran entrepreneurial dreams come true.

The skills and experiences gained during their time in the armed forces make them uniquely qualified for various career paths, including entrepreneurship. Franchising offers a structured and supportive environment that can be a great fit for veterans.
WHY FRANCHISING IS A GOOD FIT FOR VETERANS
1. Strong Sense of Purpose: Many veterans find fulfillment in serving their country and community. Franchising can
provide a sense of purpose and the opportunity to make a positive impact on their local economy.
2. Leadership and Management Skills: The leadership and management skills developed in the military are highly transferable to the business world. Veterans often excel in roles that require discipline, teamwork, and the ability to handle stress.
3. Proven Business Model: Franchising provides veterans with a tried-and-true business model. They can leverage the established brand, systems, and support of a successful franchise to reduce the risks associated with starting a business from scratch.
4. Training and Support: Franchisors often offer comprehensive training programs to help franchisees learn the ropes of their specific business. This can be especially beneficial for veterans who may need to acquire new skills or knowledge.
5. Networking Opportunities: Franchising provides veterans with opportunities to connect with other franchisees and industry professionals. This can be a valuable resource for learning best practices, sharing experiences, and building a support network.
6. Financial Assistance: Some franchisors offer financial assistance programs or partner with veteranfriendly lenders to help veterans secure financing for their franchise.
7. Veteran Support Organizations: There are multitude of nonprofits that support veterans in their entrepreneurial journey. Whether it’s assistance with financing, business plans or providing pro-bono business coaching, veterans can easily find the support they need to improve their level of success as a business owner.
THE STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT, TRAINING AND SUPPORT, AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY FRANCHISING CAN HELP VETERANS SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION FROM MILITARY SERVICE TO CIVILIAN LIFE.
POPULAR FRANCHISE INDUSTRIES FOR VETERANS
1. Home and Property Services: Residential and commercial services franchises, such as cleaning, lawn care, and pest control, are popular choices for veterans. These businesses typically require minimal upfront investment and can be operated on a flexible schedule.
2. Automotive: The automotive industry, including car repair, auto detailing, and tire sales, can be a good fit for veterans with mechanical skills. These franchises often offer a stable income stream and a loyal customer base.
3. Health and Wellness: The health and wellness industry, including fitness centers, health food stores,
and senior care services, is growing rapidly. Veterans who are passionate about health and fitness may find these franchises particularly appealing.
4. Food and Beverage: The food and beverage industry offers a wide range of franchise opportunities, from fastcasual restaurants to coffee shops. This industry is often attractive to veterans due to its consistent demand and relatively low barrier to entry. Franchising can be an excellent career path for veterans who are looking to start their own business. A LEGACY OF HONOR
CELEBRATING OUR FRANCHISEES WHO SERVED
BROOK COHEN
U.S. ARMY | SPECIALIST
www.franfund.com/franchisor-relations
I am fortunate to have a pedigree in the franchising industry. Throughout my life, I had always known that Franchising was "in my blood." It took me joining the military to develop the knowledge of what it takes to truly have a culture of camaraderie and grit surrounding the mission and vision of a business. Today, I get to translate that experience into supporting franchisors in streamlining their franchise development processes, specifically though franchisee funding management. I was lucky to have highly skilled leaders that I directly worked alongside while in the military, that inspire me to find honor in what I do every day. I envision a role of continued impact and collaboration within the franchising industry and fostering the American Dream for all who aspire to find success through franchising. My passion resides in this industry, and I have planned for a career full of learning and growing as the impact of franchising touches all corners of the globe.
WHY DO VETERANS THRIVE IN YOUR FRANCHISE SYSTEM?
Veterans thrive in franchising because of our psychological conditioning to follow a set of operating procedures. When we are aligned with our mission, have the resources to implement the right tactics, are surrounded by a culture of collaboration, and follow a defined plan, we thrive. These are all things that are woven into the franchise business model, and into the minds of those who have served. We draw from our determination to execute missions successfully with our peers and are skilled in planning the best course of action.
Our decision-making skills under pressure are unmatched, as long as there is a clear goal and path for execution. Mission planning is our forte, we take into account the goals, obstacles, and risks each time we are faced with an opportunity. Our sense of loyalty and duty are engrained within us. One of the Army Values is Personal Courage, which is vital to draw from when faced with difficult business decisions that have impact on operational performance. We were trained to never accept defeat, and never quit. We recited this every single day when we stated our creed during our transition from civilians to soldiers. With this belief so deeply seated in our minds, we do whatever it takes to educate ourselves to achieve the KPIs that are set before us.
Alignment is the name of our game, and that is done through a tradition of clear communication and reflection on weaknesses. Veterans are highly skilled operators that often find themselves sought after for leadership, due to our ability to translate doctrine into application and see the impacts to the whole of an organization before things are implemented. It's an honor to bring this perspective, and draw from my experience every day.

WHY DO VETERANS THRIVE IN YOUR FRANCHISE SYSTEM?
Franchisees thrive in our system because it fosters teamwork within a small, cohesive unit while being part of a larger organization. In many ways, it mirrors the military structure. Additionally, franchisees are accustomed to adapting to change and handling the unexpected, a skill honed through military experience. They are trained to remain calm under pressure, improvise when challenges arise, and navigate through uncertainty. This resilience and ability to adapt allow them to excel within the franchise system, as they are not easily overwhelmed by the complexities or unforeseen issues that may arise.

of his service, Tata earned multiple honors, including the Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, and Master Parachutist Badge.
In one of his final military roles, Tata was instrumental in creating the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space office to support the formation of the U.S. Space Force. His tenure as Undersecretary of Defense for Policy placed him at the forefront of global defense strategy, where he strengthened alliances and implemented the National Defense Strategy to address global threats.
LEADERSHIP BEYOND THE BATTLEFIELD
After retiring from the military, Tata transitioned into public service, taking on high-profile leadership roles. His first major civilian role was as Secretary of Transportation for North Carolina, where he managed the state’s vast transportation network, including 72 airports, two seaports, 88,000 miles of highway,

Tata’s involvement reflects his lifelong commitment to supporting those who have served. As an ambassador for HFOT, he helps raise awareness and funding for veterans who need specialized housing to live independently.
His dedication to veterans extends into the business world as well. Tata serves as an advisor to The Franchise Consulting Company (FCC), participating in franchise operations such as RobotLAB—a tech-focused franchise. Tata’s role with FCC emphasizes his belief in franchising as a pathway to economic independence for veterans, giving them the tools to build businesses and careers after military service.

RANDY HETRICK: Building a Healthier America with OutFit Training
RANDY HETRICK, founder of TRX and OutFit Training, has made it his mission to inspire healthier living across the nation. As a former Navy SEAL, Hetrick understands the importance of discipline, teamwork, and fitness—values he’s channeled into both his
entrepreneurial ventures and his commitment to giving back. Through OutFit Training,
Hetrick combines his passion for fitness with his desire to create stronger communities, making high-quality fitness training more accessible and affordable for everyone.
FROM SEAL TEAM TO FITNESS ENTREPRENEUR
Randy Hetrick's entrepreneurial journey began with a simple idea conceived during his military service. As a Navy SEAL, Hetrick needed a way to stay in peak physical condition during deployments with limited space and equipment. That necessity gave birth to the TRX Suspension Trainer®, a tool that uses body weight and gravity to provide a fullbody workout. After leaving the military, Hetrick turned this innovative concept into a global fitness phenomenon. However, his mission to improve lives through fitness didn’t end with TRX. In 2021, Hetrick founded OutFit Training, a mobile outdoor fitness concept designed to provide convenient, highquality workouts in local communities. With OutFit, Hetrick aims to democratize fitness by eliminating barriers like expensive gym memberships and inaccessible training locations, giving more people the chance to lead healthier lives.
OUTFIT TRAINING:
FITNESS FOR ALL
OutFit Training is built on the philosophy that fitness should be accessible, affordable, and fun. The program brings the gym to the people by using mobile vans equipped with kettlebells, TRX Suspension
“WITH OUTFIT, WE WANT TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS AND CREATE A CULTURE WHERE HEALTH AND WELLNESS ARE ACHIEVABLE GOALS FOR ALL.”
— Randy Hetrick, Outfit Training Founder
Trainer®, and other essential workout tools, setting up fitness classes in parks, parking lots, and open spaces. Hetrick’s idea is to create community hubs where people of all fitness levels can work out together, fostering an environment of camaraderie and personal growth.
What sets OutFit apart is not just the innovative approach to mobile fitness but also the company's focus on inclusivity. They offer free membership programs for first responders and active military personnel, honoring those who serve the community. This initiative reflects Hetrick’s personal values and his gratitude toward those in service roles—a theme rooted in his military background.
“Fitness isn’t just for the privileged; it’s for everyone,” says Hetrick. “With OutFit, we
want to break down barriers and create a culture where health and wellness are achievable goals for all.”
A MISSION TO GIVE BACK
Hetrick’s vision extends beyond building a successful fitness business—he’s committed to giving back to communities in meaningful ways. OutFit Training partners with local organizations to support community fitness events and charity fundraisers. Their mobile vans aren’t just workout stations; they double as platforms for engaging with neighborhoods, offering free classes and health resources.
The company’s outreach efforts target both adults and children, focusing on creating healthy habits early in life. With obesity and sedentary lifestyles on the rise in America, Hetrick believes that fostering a love
for physical activity is critical for future generations. The accessible nature of OutFit’s outdoor classes makes it easy for entire families to get involved, reinforcing the idea that fitness is a lifelong pursuit.
EXPANDING THE VISION
OutFit Training isn’t just a temporary fitness trend—it represents Hetrick’s long-term vision for a healthier America. His approach aligns with the broader shift in the fitness industry toward outdoor and functional training. As more people embrace fitness in natural settings, OutFit offers a scalable solution that can grow with community demand. Since its launch, OutFit has seen rapid growth, expanding into multiple states with plans for continued national outreach. Hetrick aims to use OutFit not only as a tool for personal fitness but also as a way to rebuild connections within communities. He sees fitness as a unifying force that transcends social and economic barriers, helping people come together through shared goals and achievements.
MAKING HEALTH A PRIORITY
Hetrick’s work with TRX and OutFit reflects a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of fitness. Whether it’s
through mobile fitness vans or TRX Suspension Trainer®, his goal remains the same: to empower individuals to take control of their health. In a world where wellness often takes a backseat to convenience, Hetrick’s companies offer practical solutions for people looking to make fitness a priority.
The combination of convenience, community engagement, and charitable initiatives makes OutFit Training more than just another fitness brand—it’s a movement aimed at creating lasting change.
Randy Hetrick’s journey from Navy SEAL to entrepreneur is a testament to the power of resilience and innovation. With TRX, he changed the way people think about bodyweight training; with OutFit Training, he’s on a
mission to make fitness more accessible and meaningful.
Hetrick’s commitment to giving back—to veterans, first responders, and local communities—demonstrates that business success and social responsibility can go hand in hand. Through OutFit, he is not only shaping a
healthier future for individuals but also building stronger, more connected communities across America.

And the technology will only continue to evolve.”

Ask The RESULTS Guy™: Maximizing Franchise Meetings for Success
by Tony Jeary, Strategist, Keynoter, Coach, Tony Jeary International
Iget asked a ton about meetings—how to make them more effective, how to structure them, and how to ensure everyone walks away with real value. In today’s business world, especially in franchising, we have meetings multiple times a day, often without realizing it. These meetings come in all shapes and sizes—some planned, some impromptu, ranging from discovery sessions to training workshops.
Franchisees face many meetings, whether as franchisors or other franchisees. That’s why I want to share key ideas on making all your meetings truly more productive. With the right mindset and structure, you can maximize the value for everyone involved.
Q: Tony, how can franchisees bring more value to meetings?
A: Here’s the deal—meetings are only as valuable as the contributions people bring. Sometimes, franchisees think they’re there just to receive information. They miss a key point: meetings are a two-way street. You’ve got to show up intending to bring value, not just get value.
We recently worked with Hawaii Fluid Art, where we hosted a mastermind meeting at our RESULTS Center for 15 franchisees. The format was simple but powerful. Half the meeting was spent giving insights, strategies, and tools for their businesses. The other half was about sharing best practices. I’m a firm believer that when franchisees help each other click, that’s when the magic happens.
Here’s the kicker—you’ve got to set the stage right. We sent materials beforehand so everyone could prepare. When they walked in, they weren’t just there to listen; they were ready to contribute. That’s how you turn a meeting into a real value exchange. Always ask yourself, “How can I add value to this meeting?” It’ll change the whole dynamic.
Q: Tony, what’s the best way to structure offsite franchise meetings?
A: Offsite meetings offer a fantastic opportunity to go deeper and get more creative. I’ve run many of these, and one of the best things is incorporating location tours. Seeing how others operate can
be a game changer. With Hawaii Fluid Art, we set up tours of their franchise locations. Franchisees saw firsthand how others run their businesses. They asked questions, took pictures, and got a behind-the-scenes look at what’s working. Learning sticks when people see it in action. They’re not just hearing about best practices—they’re witnessing them.
I also recommend informal events, like dinners or evening gatherings. People tend to open up more when the environment is relaxed, and that’s when some of the best ideas come out. It’s not just about what happens in the conference room— it’s also about those casual conversations where people connect on a personal level.
Q: Tony, how do you ensure meetings leave people energized and ready to take action?
A: Meetings should obviously never be a waste of time. They should inspire people and push them toward action. The key is being strategic with your agenda. We suggest you ensure your meetings have clear objectives, actionable takeaways, and plenty of energy. You don’t want people leaving drained; you want them pumped and ready to execute.
A Blind Spot I see a lot, especially in franchising, is marketing. As a franchisor, you’ve got to equip your franchisees with smart, actionable marketing strategies to fill capacity— whether it’s appointments, selling products, or driving foot traffic. As a franchisee, you need to ask yourself, “Am I investing enough in my marketing?”
It’s not just about running the business—it’s about growing it.
In our meetings, we always circle back to this: Are we making the most out of the time we’ve spent together? If the answer is yes, then you know the meeting has done its job. People walk out with clear next steps, motivated, and equipped to move forward.
Meetings are a part of life in franchising, and if done right, they can drive serious results. Whether you’re a franchisor or franchisee, it’s about maximizing every interaction. By bringing value, structuring meetings right, and ensuring clear takeaways, you can turn your meetings into powerful drivers of success. And remember, it’s not just about the meeting itself—it’s about how you prepare, show up, and what you do after. That’s where the real impact lies.

by Bailey Rayner, Chief Development Officer, Painter Bros.
First and foremost, we at Painter Bros are thankful for those that have, and still continue to serve our country! We are proud of where we live and couldn’t be here without those that fought for our freedom.
Because of our gratitude of those in service, we embrace the vets that join our franchise organization! A 15% discount on the franchise fee, just doesn’t seem enough when you consider all they have done for us. We are proud of our owners who have served and are thankful
they put their trust in us to walk with them through their next adventure in life!
John of East Denver jumped right into Painter Bros with both feet! Former military and fortunate enough for his first major contract to be with the local air force base. John’s dedication to quality, good spirit and attention to detail landed him a project of a lifetime and transitioned him into a preferred vendor. Starting on his second air force base contract this month, John awarded this
project to a fellow franchise owner. Team work make’s the dream work!

They are both supported in their endeavors with their wives and kids by
their sides!
Mark in Houston just won top 10 Franchisee for revenue so far this year, and he’s only been active for less than 6 months! Mark is one of the hardest working people I know! A Tug Boat Captain for several years working alongside the Coast Guard, we
are now fortunate and blessed to have him full time in the business, ready to change his life!
Another top revenue earner and dual award winning location in DMV, Ivan joined the US Army in 2002. He served in the US Special Forces as a Greem Beret until 2009, deploying to South America and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. He is quickly scaling his business in the states and in Puerto Rico with his business partner, working on national projects as well as local market. DMV is one of the top locations for charitable work and making an impact within their community!
Some location owners may have never served, but they still honor those in their communities that have. Painter Bros of Boise has dedicated to offering vet discounts to each of their Veteran customers!
At Painter Bros, we appreciate hard work, sacrifice and loyalty. Our culture is one of the many reasons folks buy a PB franchise and our ability to bring in everyone as family, as friends and as partners, is a prime example why this franchise is quickly growing across the United States!

A SHINY NEW FRANCHISE
Southern Cross Service Dogs: A Lifeline for Veterans and a Cause for Businesses to Support
by Kyle Heck, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
Veterans returning to civilian life often face challenges that are hard to imagine— ranging from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to the isolation that can follow years of military service. I spoke with retired Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Brandon Marquez, co-founder of Southern Cross Service Dogs, about how they provide highly trained service dogs designed to help veterans reclaim their independence, manage anxiety, and re-engage
with society with the help of volunteers and business partners who want to support our military veterans.
A VETERAN'S VISION: THE BIRTH OF SOUTHERN CROSS SERVICE DOGS
Staff Sergeant Marquez served 10 years in the Marine Corps, including seven in special operations as a dog handler alongside MPC Shimanski, who received the Animals in War and Peace Medal of Bravery this year. He saw firsthand the difference that trained service dogs could make for missions and morale. Following his retirement in 2020, he turned his military training into a new mission: to offer fellow veterans the healing power of service dogs.
Drawing from his own experience with PTSD and injuries sustained in combat, Brandon understands how debilitating these conditions can be. While undergoing treatments himself, he realized that the work he did with dogs helped him more than
anything else. This realization sparked the creation of Southern Cross Service Dogs, an organization that now serves veterans in need by matching them with specially trained service dogs.
SOUTHERN CROSS’S SERVICES
The organization's core mission is to train and provide service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and military sexual trauma. The dogs are meticulously trained over a two-year period to perform a wide range of tasks tailored to their veteran partners' specific needs. These tasks include:
Anxiety management:
The dogs are trained to alert veterans to rising anxiety levels and perform soothing actions, such as deep pressure therapy or circling the veteran to create personal space in crowded areas.
Mobility assistance: For veterans with physical disabilities or limited mobility, service dogs can help them stand, retrieve items like a cell phone or prosthetic limb, and even support them while walking.
Nightmare interruption: Many veterans experience nightmares related to PTSD. Service dogs are trained to wake them gently, providing comfort and a sense of security during difficult moments.
The ultimate goal is to give veterans the confidence and skills they need to regain their independence and integrate back into their communities. The cost to train each dog averages around $60,000, but Southern Cross Service Dogs provides these animals to veterans at no cost, ensuring that financial limitations don’t prevent veterans from accessing this lifechanging service.
HOW BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS CAN GET INVOLVED
As a nonprofit organization, Southern Cross Service Dogs relies heavily on support from the community. Businesses, franchise owners, and individuals alike can play a key role in helping this organization continue its vital work.
1. Donations and Sponsorships
Businesses can contribute directly through donations or by sponsoring specific service dogs in training. With the cost of training each dog at $60,000, corporate sponsorships can go a long way in covering the expenses associated with care, training, and medical needs.
2. Round-Up Campaigns
Local businesses, particularly those with retail operations, can participate in “round-up” campaigns, where customers are encouraged to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar to benefit the charity. This simple initiative can raise significant funds while also promoting the business’s involvement with a meaningful cause. Some restaurants and shops in Florida have already partnered with Southern Cross in this way, and more businesses are encouraged to join.
3. Volunteer Efforts
Southern Cross Service Dogs also welcomes volunteers who can assist with puppy raising, administrative work, and event coordination.
These volunteer roles are crucial in maintaining the charity's operations and expanding its impact.
PARTNERING WITH VETERANS AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY
Southern Cross Service Dogs’ mission uniquely intersects two major pillars of the franchise and business community: pets and veterans. Veterans are known for their dedication and discipline, traits that align closely with successful franchise ownership. Similarly, many pet-focused businesses have flourished since the pandemic, as more people seek services for their "pandemic puppies." By supporting Southern Cross Service Dogs, companies not only give back to the veteran community but also tap into the widespread appeal of pet-related causes. Southern Cross Service Dogs is more than just a charity—it’s a lifeline for veterans who have given so much for their country. With the help of community members and businesses, this organization can continue its important work, bringing hope, healing, and companionship to veterans in need. To get involved, visit their website or reach out to learn how your business can support this cause.

Signs of Gratitude: FASTSIGNS®’s Commitment to Veteran Franchisees
by Bob Hays, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
The franchising industry boasts a remarkable presence of veteran entrepreneurs, with former service members owning an impressive 1 in 7 franchises in the US. This represents a disproportionate yet welcome contribution, considering veterans comprise only 7% of the civilian adult population.
Some striking statistics highlight the impact of veteranowned franchises, including 25% of veterans expressing interest in starting their own businesses, and 65% of franchisors reporting increased veteran hiring in recent years.
As franchisors recognize
the value veterans bring, the industry is actively recruiting former service members. The convergence of veterans' skills and franchising's structured entrepreneurship has created a thriving ecosystem, empowering veteran entrepreneurs and fueling industry growth.
FASTSIGNS® OFFERS AN INDUSTRY LEADING SIGN & GRAPHICS FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY
Many veterans see franchising as a great opportunity to best employ their military training and know-how in civilian life while building a better future for their family.
One franchisor that set their sights working with the veteran’s community is FASTSIGNS®. They are the leading sign, graphics, and visual communications franchise, and have been ranked on Entrepreneur magazine’s list of Top Franchises for veterans.
FASTSIGNS® International, Inc. is the leading sign and visual communications franchisor in North America, and is the worldwide franchisor of more than 750 independently owned and operated FASTSIGNS® centers. They provide comprehensive signage and graphic solutions to help companies in all industries communicate their message and extend their branding across all of their customer touchpoints.
Often franchisors will offer veteran discounts including waived or deferred royalty fees, financial assistance on marketing and training costs, and most often a reduction in the franchise fee. FASTSIGNS® franchise initiatives available to veteran franchisees and first responders include:
• 50% discount on Franchise fee — a savings of nearly $25,000!
• Reduced royalties for the first 12 months
• Flexible FASTSIGNS® location options (over 400 ideal markets available)
• SBA-approved franchise financing
Military veterans are intensely focused on service, quality of work, and contributing to a bigger cause — whether that’s helping customers meet their business goals or supporting the growth of the FASTSIGNS® brand.
The exemplary training and support that FASTSIGNS® provides its franchise owners has been recognized by Franchise Business Review, which has made the global custom sign and graphic brand a mainstay on its list of Top 200 Franchises. FASTSIGNS® stands out in their industry. This past year they were recognized with Satisfaction Awards for Best In Category,

“We’re proud to provide veterans with the opportunity and support to become successful entrepreneurs through the franchise business model,” said Mark Jameson, the Chief Support and Development Officer for Propelled Brands, the corporate umbrella of FASTSIGNS® and several other successful franchise brands.
“We value their contribution to helping us build a top-ranked franchise,” Jameson said, highlighting that about 14% of franchisees currently in the FASTSIGNS® system are military veterans.
As a growing $29 billion industry, signage and graphics will be in demand as long
as businesses need to be seen. FASTSIGNS® will be there to create captivating, high-performing visuals for businesses around the world. FASTSIGNS® offers entrepreneurs and current business owners an opportunity to meet a growing demand for eye-catching graphics and marketing through franchising. Their dedication to franchisee success is why two of their company’s "Key Strategic Objectives" center on increasing franchisee's center sales and profitability. It's also why they’ve won awards for their level of franchisee satisfaction— and ultimately, it’s why their franchisees have achieved financial success and personal fulfillment.
Franchise ownership empowers veterans to capitalize on their military discipline, work ethic, and skills to build successful businesses. Given the similar approaches taken by the U.S. military and franchises in running well-oiled working units, it’s no wonder why FASTSIGNS® and many other franchisors covet those who served in the Armed Forces and why thousands of veterans choose to transition into franchising every year.

From Service to Success: Why Veterans Thrive as Balloon Kings Franchise Owners
by Anissa Burdett, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
For military veterans, the transition from service to civilian life presents new challenges and opportunities. Many veterans look for careers where they can apply their leadership, discipline, and strategic thinking skills, and franchising offers a structured path to achieve success. A standout franchise for veterans is Balloon Kings®, founded in 2011 by Marine Corps combat veteran Gene Nifenecker II Nifenecker’s story embodies resilience, creativity, and determination—qualities familiar to veterans. Since franchising in 2019, Balloon Kings has become a promising opportunity for veterans seeking a fulfilling and profitable career,
with Nifenecker’s belief in limitless possibilities: “There’s no limit. You envision it, and we can build it.”
WHY VETERANS SHOULD BUY A FRANCHISE
Veterans have a unique skill set that makes them ideal franchise owners. Franchising offers structure, clear processes, and a strong support system— elements that align perfectly with a veteran's training and experience. Balloon Kings offers a growing business model where veterans can thrive. Franchise systems allow veterans to leverage their leadership abilities while building their own business. With Balloon Kings, veterans step into a well-defined framework that includes comprehensive training, ongoing support, and the potential to grow a local business with national backing.
FROM MARINE TO BALLOON ROYALTY: GENE NIFENECKER’S JOURNEY
Gene Nifenecker II is no stranger to hard work. After serving in the **Marine Corps**,
he returned to become a third-generation sign painter. However, when the 2009 economic downturn forced him to close his sign-painting business, he didn’t give up. Instead, he reinvented himself. After a chance encounter with a friend who owned a small balloon business, Nifenecker envisioned a new concept: a balloon store that combines the personal touch of a small shop with the capabilities of a largescale operation. In 2011, with just $22,000 in borrowed funds, **Balloon Kings** was born in
Manhattan, creating everything from simple balloon bouquets to elaborate event décor.
TOP REASONS VETERANS MAKE GREAT FRANCHISEES
1. Leadership and Discipline: Veterans are trained to take command and execute strategies effectively, making them excellent franchisees who can manage staff and oversee operations.
2. Team-Oriented Approach: Military service emphasizes working within a team to achieve goals. Veterans excel in franchise systems like Balloon Kings, where they manage their operations within a supportive network.
3. Adaptability: Veterans can adjust to new environments and challenges, skills essential for running a franchise. Whether it’s managing inventory or planning balloon installations, veterans handle the fast-paced business world.
4. Problem Solving: Veterans bring critical thinking and problem-solving skills honed in the military. These qualities are invaluable in the creative balloon décor industry, where logistics and creativity combine to deliver memorable results.
A BUSINESS FIT FOR VETERANS: SPECIAL DISCOUNTS AND SUPPORT
As a veteran himself, Nifenecker is committed to giving back to the military community. Balloon Kings offers a discounted franchise fee for U.S. military veterans and first responders, making it easier for veterans to step into franchise ownership.
The franchise includes a comprehensive training program, starting with 10 days of hands-on experience at the Manhattan flagship store, followed by on-site support at the new location. Franchisees receive guidance on site selection, marketing, and more to ensure they are set up for success from the start.
With this structure in place, veterans can focus on building relationships in their community, making every event memorable with unique balloon creations, and growing their own business.
VETERANS FIND A NEW CAREER IN FRANCHISING
For veterans seeking a smooth transition to civilian life, franchising offers a blend of structure and independence. Balloon Kings provides veterans with the opportunity to channel their military experience into building a creative and successful business.
With a proven track record, comprehensive training, and the growing demand for balloon décor, veterans can confidently step into this exciting industry and build a thriving business.
HEROES WANTED: BECOME A BALLOON KINGS FRANCHISEE
Balloon Kings is not just a balloon store—it’s a brand built on creativity, excellence, and dedication. Veterans looking for their next challenge will find that owning a **Balloon Kings** franchise is a perfect fit. With Nifenecker’s leadership and strong support for veterans, the franchise offers a clear path to success with room for growth.
For veterans, the chance to own a Balloon Kings franchise means joining a network of entrepreneurs transforming events across the country. Veterans can make a real impact in their community while building a rewarding career.

American Defense Solutions - Veteran Owned and Operated
by Chip Cassady, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations, American Defense Solutions
Shortly after the tragic attack on the U.S. Embassy and CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya, David Fair, founder and CEO of American Defense Solutions, crossed paths with Kris “Tanto” Paronto. Paronto, a former Army Ranger, was one of the heroes who played a critical role in saving lives during the assault on the CIA Annex. This chance meeting led to a collaboration between the two on designing a Safe Room System, a product
that might have saved the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and others during the orchestrated attack by ISIS. From that meeting, American Defense Solutions was born, growing into a specialized company focused on a comprehensive “Defense in Depth” strategy aimed at protecting lives.
As the company established its roots, David quickly realized that the need for security extended far beyond safe rooms. In today’s increasingly unpredictable world,
schools, businesses, places of worship, and homes must be fortified against various forms of aggression. In response to this growing need, American Defense Solutions introduced protective films for glass windows and doors. ADS Defender™ Security Film is applied over existing glass, creating a robust layer of intrusion resistance. This film provides a critical delay for anyone attempting to break through, allowing precious extra seconds for those inside to react and for first responders to arrive. In scenarios involving break-ins or attacks, those few seconds can be the difference between life and death.
American Defense Solutions has consistently worked in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies, whose frontline experience helps guide product development. Based on numerous requests for stateof-the-art protective solutions, the company designed a line of patented specialized armor that caters to the specific needs of first responders. One of their flagship products is the Got Your Six™ (GY6™) Seatback Armor and Mobile Shield. This quick-deploy solution provides a readily accessible layer of
protection between the user and potential threats. The GY6™ armor quickly detaches from the seatback and can be used as a personal shield, offering Level IIIA protection against handgun rounds. For those requiring enhanced defense, an optional Level III upgrade is available for protection against rifle rounds. The GY6™ is versatile, designed for use not only in vehicles but also in homes and businesses.
In addition to the seatback armor, American Defense Solutions, again with the input of their law enforcement partners, recognized the need to fortify law enforcement vehicles with ballistic armor protection. To meet this demand, the company developed the Wingman™ Vehicle Door Armor, a patented system that provides pistol or rifle-rated protection. Custom-fitted to the specific make, model, and year of the vehicle, Wingman™ armor fits inside the vehicle’s doors, adding another critical layer of defense. This allows law enforcement personnel to protect themselves while on duty, whether in pursuit situations or during hostile encounters.
At the heart of American Defense Solutions is a commitment to listening to its customers and communities, which has been integral to the company’s continued innovation. For instance, following the success of the GY6™ within the law enforcement community, school administrators approached the company with a request for similar protective solutions tailored to the classroom environment. This led to the creation of the Defender Six™ Quick Deploy Seatback Armor, a product designed to fit onto the backs of desk chairs. This easily accessible shield allows teachers, office staff, and administrators to deploy a ballistic barrier quickly in the event of an emergency, providing additional time to respond and secure their safety. The Defender Six™ is a versatile solution that can be deployed in schools, offices, and other hightraffic environments.
Most recently, based on requests from the law enforcement community, American Defense Solutions has entered into the Vehicle Upfitting business. In addition
to Ballistic Armor Packages, American Defense also installs lights, sirens and other equipment necessary to make a vehicle ready for service.
As a veteran-owned and operated company, American Defense Solutions is deeply committed to a 360-degree “Defense in Depth” approach. The leadership team brings years of experience from both military and law enforcement backgrounds, ensuring that every product is designed with real-world scenarios in mind. Their approach to security solutions is based on a combination of detection, deterrence, and, when necessary, defense. By focusing on these key pillars, American Defense Solutions helps prevent forceful attacks while minimizing physical harm and property damage.
American Defense Solutions continues to evolve by prioritizing innovation and by listening to the needs of those on the front lines—whether they are first responders, school administrators, or homeowners. Their mission is to provide practical, effective solutions that save lives, protect property, and foster a greater sense of safety in an ever-changing world.

FROM SERVICE TO SUCCESS:
How Air Force Veteran Mark Tant Found the Perfect Fit with Bloomin’ Blinds
AAs an Air Force veteran and current Bloomin’ Blinds franchisee for just over four years, Mark Tant of Birmingham, AL, can confidently say that his military experience laid the perfect foundation for his journey into business ownership. Franchising and military service go hand in hand in ways he never had expected. From the structure of following a proven system to the camaraderie of working within a larger network, the parallels are undeniable. It’s been an incredibly rewarding ride for him.
When he first transitioned from the military, he knew he wanted to be part of something where he could take the lead, make decisions, and have a sense of ownership. In addition to this, he also valued the importance of a
system having a set of processes that were tried, tested, and reliable. That’s what the military is built on: processes that you can trust. When he discovered Bloomin’ Blinds, he knew it was the right fit because the brand operates with a similar mindset. Bloomin’ Blinds has fine-tuned its business model and made it easy for franchisees like Mark to focus on execution rather than reinventing the wheel.
“The structure that Bloomin’ Blinds has in place made the transition from service to business ownership seamless. If you can follow a system and stay disciplined, then you’re already halfway to success.” says Mark.
But it’s not just the systems that have made this such a natural fit for him. It’s the freedom and
creativity that come with owning his own franchise. After years of strict schedules and operational demands, having the ability to grow his business his way has been incredibly empowering for him. There’s a balance he’s found between sticking to Bloomin’ Blinds’ proven processes and bringing his vision to life. That’s something he deeply appreciates about this franchise. It gives him a framework, but within that, the possibilities are endless.
Of course, no military career happens without the support of a team, and business ownership is no different. Mark says that the corporate team at Bloomin’ Blinds has been instrumental in his success. The brand’s guidance, training, and consistent support make him feel like he has his own
squad backing him up. Whenever he’s had a question or needed some help, the Bloomin’ Blinds team has been there without hesitation. To him, that sense of teamwork makes all the difference.
The values he learned in the military, including discipline, persistence, and service, have not only affected how he approaches his business but also how he gives back to his community and fellow franchisees. To him, he’s not just running a business to make a profit; he’s also looking to contribute something meaningful to the people around him. Whether it’s offering a helping hand to a new franchise owner or organizing community events, giving back is at the core of what he does. That’s something else he loves about the Bloomin’ Blinds network: there’s a strong sense of community. He loves that they are all in this together, lifting each other.
In business, as in service, it’s about more than just following orders— it’s about building something bigger than yourself. Mark feels as though he has found this with Bloomin’ Blinds.
SCAN TO LEARN MORE
Being part of the Bloomin’ Blinds family has been nothing short of incredible, and I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to not only grow a successful business but to do it in a way that honors the values I gained from my military service. If you’re a veteran considering franchising, I’d tell you this: it’s a natural fit. The skills you’ve honed in service—whether it’s leadership, teamwork, or discipline—are exactly what you need to thrive in business. And if you can find a franchise like Bloomin’ Blinds that supports you every step of
the way, you’re already on the path to success.”
