OFF WHITE x MATCHES MATCHESFASHION.COM has just launched an exclusive collection with OffWhite, which is the first in the series Digital Exclusive – a new section on the site presenting the best in global menswear exclusive to the luxury retailer. Virgil Abloh, the creative director of Off-White, has created a nineteen-piece collection

WORDS BY SAMUEL HOW • PHOTOGRAPHY BY MATCHES FASHION

There are two moods within the collection, ‘washed camo’ and ‘cargo pants.’ Both nod to the urban, street aesthetic the brand is famed for. The Field Jacket features in washed black camo and features Off-White insignia, the diagonal stripes, in cotton tape. The oversized drawstring hoodie is available in red and black and both feature the diagonal stripes on the sleeves. Two types of shirt feature. A more fitted dress shirt and a slouchier pyjama style shirt – each is available in either black camo or red. The cargo pant has been updated in black camo and also brushed fleece, and a wider pant is available in the recurring colourways. This collection also features a slimmer silhouette t-shirt, two baseball caps and four styles of socks.

15

Virgil Abloh, creative director, Off-White stated, ‘The concept behind the MATCHESFASHION.COM collaboration was to offer up a sort of uniform based on current culture but lend an opinion on where I see it going in the future.’ Damien Paul, Head of Menswear at Matches Fashion said ‘At MATCHESFASHION.COM we always try to give our customer something that they cannot find anywhere else globally so we are excited to be working with Off-White on this exclusive collection. Virgil Abloh’s signature of upscale streetwear has cult appeal and high profile fans and the capsule combines graphics and stark use of colour with their urban aesthetic.’

DEBI FLÜGGE Meet Debi Flügge, the German globetrotter and blogger making waves in the international and online fashion scene sharing her exciting and fast paced life with her hundreds of thousands of followers. WORDS BY JOSHUA HORTINELA • PHOTOGRAPHY BY DEBI FLUE

- Describe your style and aesthetic:

- Any vacations planned over the holidays?

I often struggle with finding the correct answer because I think it’s not that easy to boil it down into two or three words. But I tried my best ;) I would describe my style as casual but also chic. I love to combine basics with some special pieces.

Not yet - but I am sure I will be back at the beach on NYE! :) - New Year’s resolution?

Advert

- If you weren’t doing what you are doing what would you be?

I really can’t imagine to do anything different from what I am doing now - I just love it! Maybe I would be done with university by now and would work at a media agency. But it would definitely be something creative! - What is your ultimate indulgence? Avocados and Coconut Water! I have to eat/drink at least one a day!

Most of us make New Year’s resolutions about budgets, waistlines, jobs or relationships… To be honest - I am not a fan of resolutions. In my opinion if you really want to change something you can change it now! - If you had a bucket list what would be on it? I do have a bucket list - but there are so many points on it. A horseback ride at a beach in south Africa together with my boy. exotic

- What gifts are you coveting within the holiday season vast approaching? If I would be Baby-Debi I could have told you thousands of wishes. But today, working all over the world, it’s very hard to spend time with my family so that’s what I am looking forward to when it comes to holiday season - I will enjoy every minute with them :)

Once a model for Lorna Jane and Charlie Brown, Writer and Entrepreneur Ally May Hayward created the online lifestyle site: Substance, to which has now become a go-to online destination for style, beauty, health and travel. Ally a frequent traveller and explorer left her small coastal town of Copacabana NSW for Sydney, where she is now based permanently collaborating with international brands including Nike, David Jones, Adidas, Uniqlo. -Tell us about Substance and how it came about?

- How would you describe your personal style?

I was modelling and running a vintage online store and began to photograph my outfits, so I began Substance. It has since transformed into much more than just me posting OOTD. I love to write and I love writing advice pieces about anything from fitness & health, to style and travel. I think Substance will continue to transform and evolve as my ideas evolve. The important thing to me is to always have fun with it and stay as creative and innovative as I can be.

I would say my style is relaxed, sporty and minimalist - I love easy, comfortable pieces. I love detail pieces worn with denim. I definitely think my style has changed a lot in the last two years. I am more comfortable with knowing what I like and I dress more in items that I find incredible, as opposed to making sure I am ticking off the latest trend. - Who are you currently inspired by? I love french style and I love to people watch.

- What made you decide to move to Sydney?

Advert

The move to Sydney was the next step for my husband and I. We have always lived coastal, so Sydney was a big step for us. It made complete sense for both of our work! I love living in a city. There is always something to do or something to see. I think living in different places really broadens your mind. I think I would get claustrophobic if I stayed in the city forever though.

- What is your ultimate indulgence? Mexican food and burgers are my weakness.

- How do you plan on spending the Holiday season? - You previously modelled why did you transition into fitness and fashion blogging? I loved modelling, but I felt it was time to build up my own business and begin something that was just mine. I wanted to have more control and use my brain in different ways. The skills and contacts I made in the modelling industry have helped me so much with the fashion and blogging world!

I am about to travel around America for a month!! The count down is on. Every city we visit will be a completely different experience - stay tuned!

- What are your New Years Resolutions? I try not to make New Years Resolutions. I tend to believe you should constantly make goals and keep yourself accountable. I don’t think there is anything wrong with making a few NY’s resolutions, but you’ll find it much easier to maintain them if you make a conscious effort through out the year instead!

- Describe a regular day?

- What gifts are you coveting for the approaching festive season?

For me every day is different. I could be extremely busy shooting or writing emails for clients or I could be relaxing and taking some time to exercise. As someone who travels a lot I often mind myself away from home or in a different country which makes everyday unique and exciting for me.

If i were to choose a gift for myself this year it would definitely be the new GoPro Hero 5. The new camera has some amazing new features and I’m really excited to see what sort of content it can generate.

- What made you decide to become a photographer? I was taught how to use a DSLR camera from a young age and started shooting photos from as early as twelve years old. I was taught by my father who is a cinematographer/director so for me creating visuals is something that I was surrounded by from a very young age and it seemed to be a very natural progression as I grew older.

- Where is your all time favourite travel destination? My favourite travel destination in recent times has been the West Coast of California. I loved spending time in the Big Sur area and Malibu, both amazing places found off of the Pacific Coast Highway. - If you had a bucket list what would be on it?

Advert

- What is your favourite past times besides from taking photos? This may be an obvious answer but I love to travel and explore new places, both locally and on a global scale. I love going to the beach, relaxing and spending time with friends.

My bucket list would probably never end if I had a physical copy of one but a few of the things I would love to do include: - Skydiving in Hawaii - ATV riding in Greece - Visiting every continent - If you were to go for a winter or summer vacation this holiday season which would you choose? I would definitely choose a summer vacation! I spent a lot of time in Europe this time last year and it was winter so I definitely think I’ll go for some heat this time around.

JACK MORRIS After packing his bags 5 years ago, quitting his job in Britain on a one-way flight to Bangkok, Jack Morris never could have expected becoming one of the world’s most famous social media influencers. With close to 2 million Instagram followers, Morris showcases his daily travels to some of the most picturesque and exotic destinations on earth.

WORDS BY JOSHUA HORTINELA • PHOTOGRAPHY BY JACK MORRIS

- Tell us about how your online/social media fame became what it is today?

- As far as destinations go I loved Cappadocia in Turkey its quite a surreal place and I also love Jordan.

I pretty much just use it to document my life and what I am doing as I am continuously travelling and have been doing so for over 5 years now. It’s basically an online journal and as my following has grown it has become more curated. It was never supposed to be a business or make money and eventually people started contacting me and as it got bigger and bigger it was hard to turn deals down.

- Where to next? I do so much have a list of places I’d like to go but I’d love to go to Tahiti and Samoa but next stop is Thailand and then Dubai.

- Summer or Winter getaway? - What made you decide to move to Bali? I came here three years ago and just fell in love with it straight away. I’ve spent most my time in South East Asia, the difference between Bali is it has this healthy style of living and also westernized lifestyle. It’s also quite cheap and accessible to live here.

- You have travelled all over the world, where is your favourite destination to date? It’s quite hard to think of one single place that would be my favourite however Tsarabanjina, an island just off Madagascar would definitely be one of my favourite, it is in the middle of the ocean, completely secluded, away from everything, just untouched beautiful island. It probably takes an hour to walk around with only 40 bungalows on the whole island, it’s just really well kept.

57

Definitely Summer, I avoid winter on a yearly basis.

- Where do you see yourself in ten years from now? Hopefully married with some kids and a Bali Bungalow, I don’t know, haha that is a hard question.

- As the holiday season approaches what would be the ultimate gift? I’d love something really different, so probably like a trip as travelling is my favourite, but definitely something different and unique. I don’t know what I’ve even get myself to be honest, my girlfriend says I have everythin

VIJAT MOHINDRA Meet Vijat Mohindra, the controversial neo-pop celebrity photographer, known for his theatrical and daring shoots featuring some of the world’s most prolific celebrities from Miley Cyrus to Kim Kardashian. We spoke to him exclusively about his latest works and successful career thus far. WORDS BY SAMUEL HOW • PHOTOGRAPHY BY VIJAT MOHINDRA - What made you decide to become a photographer?

When I was pretty young I was attracted to photography after looking at a portfolio of black and white photographs that my mom created in design school in the 70’s. The images have stuck with me ever since and I knew I wanted to use photography to inspire others in such a way. My life goal has always been to inspire, whether creatively or otherwise. I love the positive energy that comes with inspiration and I think photography is the perfect vessel for creativity and inspiration.

- Tell us about your most memorable shoot to date?

The thing I really love about photography is that even though it is an incredible tool for modern expressionism and used to create hyper glossy and otherworldly images, it still captures memories at the end of the day. I have had so many memorable shoots and moments throughout my photographic career and what I love so much is that the world can share all those memories with me through my photography.

- What are you currently inspired by?

I am constantly being inspired visually by everything around me, but right now I am inspired by social and cultural issues that I want to address through my photography. My goal is definitely to inspire, but also to subtly draw attention to real and current issues in the world. Some topics I want to work on for my next exhibition are consumerism, vanity, and childhood obesity.

- Who are your idols?

have in that they are able to constantly create work that is completely their point of view, without being compromised by any outside influence. I also love that they use their photography as a platform to make social and political statements, which is a step beyond most commercial photography.

- As the holiday season is vast approaching how do you plan on spending it?

This holiday season I am looking forward to traveling abroad and will be visiting family in a few different parts of the world. As hectic as it can be traveling during the holidays, it is well worth it to spend time with the ones you love.

- As we are compiling “the ultimate gift guide” what would be your ultimate gift?

I love gifting vegan and cruelty free products to all my friends and family in hopes of opening their eyes to environmentally friendly products and brands they may not have know about. There are also so many great brands that are now implementing more eco-friendly options and it makes half the fun of gifting, finding all these new exciting things.

- 2017 New Years Resolutions?

My New Year’s resolution would be to work with more brands and celebrities that align with my point of view. I want to work towards shooting more in my specific style and creating one cohesive portfolio that encompases all of my work rather than splitting it into separate commercial and conceptual sections.

My photographic idols and biggest influences throughout my life have been 2 incredible photographers; David Lachapelle and Miles Aldridge. I look up to these photographers in so many more ways than just my obsession with their physical pictures. I believe they have something not many photographers
