appy New Year to everyone from Fernie Minor Hockey. We wish everyone a year filled with joy, abundance and of course hockey! The past two seasons have reinforced the overwhelming importance of community. The joy of playing in front of your hometown crowd in your own arena is really priceless. The support of the community for our association and our programs is also incredible. We are thankful for these gifts. This year Fernie has an exciting addition to hockey programs in the community with the inaugural year of The Fernie Academy Fury Midget varsity team. It is great news for hockey in our area. Fernie Minor Hockey is really pleased to be a part of this program. It is exciting to see some of our local youth playing on the team and a good sign that hockey is alive and well here. We would like to extend a special thank you to the team at The Free Press team for their generous donation of the Fernie; Then and Now Calendars. All of the proceeds are going to local non profits. They are a fantastic keepsake. If anyone is interested in getting one please contact me or head over to The Free Press to pick up your copy. Minor Hockey Week is our chance to celebrate our game, our players, our parents, coaches, officials and volunteers. We are very proud of our young players and all of their achievements. We hope they can cherish their hockey experiences for the rest of their lives. We hope you all enjoy seeing their smiling faces! Tracey Kelly President, Fernie Minor Hockey

ockey isn’t just about being physically active. Hockey helps you become an important member of a team while learning new skills. You get the benefits of an active lifestyle while making friends from yours and neighbouring communities. It also offers lessons in teamwork, responsibility and skill-building. Elk Valley Minor Hockey Association is happy to be able to offer a hockey program in the Elk Valley. This season we have players as young as three years to as old as 17. The players have the opportunity to play league games and tournaments as well as practice at least twice weekly. Keeping hockey affordable in the Elk Valley is a priority for the association as well. We remain a non-profit organization and charge the minimum required to cover our ice and referee costs. A board of volunteers who spend countless hours attending meetings and planning for the season run Elk Valley Minor Hockey. As well, all of the coaches, managers and safety people are volunteers. We would like to express our gratitude to all of these people for the time and effort they put into our hockey program Crystal Tennant, Special Events Coordinator Elk Valley Minor Hockey Association
