Hello and welcome to Wapiti Music Festival’s sixth year This is beautiful Fernie, B.C.’s annual summer music festival and comes with all the mountain town charm and scenery included in your ticket price. Every festival year has been amazing, filled with the best of Canadian Indie music, local beer, good friends, new visitors, and a feeling that right now this is the best place on earth. And then the next year happens and it is even better. On August 12th and 13th we’re going to do it again. Expect to hear a spectrum of Canadian music from singer songwriter folk/blues to electronic funk and everything in between. Bring your blanket and shades for the relaxing sets and your dancing shoes for the up tempo sets. While you’re on the festival grounds sample some amazing food from a wide variety of vendors, handcrafted art from around Western Canada, and of course some local Fernie Brewing Co. beer, and B.C. wines and cider. Wapiti Music Festival is operated by a nonprofit society. We do it for the love of music and community and we hope you’ll love being here. You can show the love by helping us keep Annex Park beautiful. Check out our improved waste management stations this year with opportunities for re-use, recycling, and composting. Thanks to Wildsight for helping us with this important part of our festival. As part of our ongoing sustainability improvements pick up a couple of our new 100% recycled stainless steel mugs. They can be found in the Merchandise tent or Beverage tent. Finally, if you see someone on site wearing a volunteer shirt give them a high five for us. Without our many volunteers and sponsors Wapiti would just be another name for an Elk. Wapiti Music Festival Society

Wild Honey - Roots, Cranbrook/Fernie B.C. Wild Honey is a female trio from the Kootenays. Their roots sound is inspired by their beautiful home and the people they share it with. Recent gigs include playing with Barney Bentall and the Cariboo Express and opening for CMT’s darlings, Belle Starr. Wild Honey has been recording in Vancouver and will be releasing an EP later this year. An invitation to stand on their homegrown Wapiti stage with the finest of musical company is a dream come true.

The Matinée - Roots, Rock, Folk, Vancouver B.C.

Shred Kelly Stoke Folk, Fernie B.C.

It’s been an insane year for the Vancouver-based band, with four major Canadian tours, a few residencies in and around Toronto and the odd sojourn into the States under its belt to promote their breakthrough 2013 release, We Swore We’d See the Sunrise (not to mention a slew of major festival slots, like the band’s now-traditional Live @ Squamish blow-out). Eighteen months since Light Organ Records released their debut full-length album, thanks in some part to the band’s punishing work ethic, you’d be hard-pressed to walk into a bar, pool hall, or cathouse without hearing the CBC and MuchMusic-minted hits “Young and Lazy” or “The Road” pumping from the radio.

Since their inception, the Fernie, B.C.-based “StokeFolk” band have been re-defining what “folk music” means in Canada. Through their individual panCanadian backgrounds, Tim Newton, Sage McBride, Jordan Vlasschaert, Ian Page-Shiner, and Ty West have amplified the traditional sound of folk music with a more contemporary approach. They have humbly pioneered Canada’s modern folk sound – pushing the boundaries of the genre, and creating “Stoke-Folk” – a genre that truly encapsulates the peaks and valleys that define Canada. Their music is a perfect blend of “stoke” and “folk”. That translates perfectly onto an album, or a packed dance floor.

Linden Anthony – Alt Folk, Fernie B.C. Linden Anthony is an alt-folk artist from Fernie, B.C. Gathering influence from acts such as Bon Iver, City and Colour and Ben Howard, he has developed his own style of indie/folk/alternative. Sticking to the roots but with modern twists. Anthony will make the fans dance, smile and enjoy themselves by giving his all with every performance.

Wooden Horsemen – Neo-Swamp Rock, Vancouver B.C. Garnering critical praise with their folk laden debut album in 2013, Wooden Horsemen have expanded their sound considerably since embarking on multiple cross-country tours. With the addition of horns and an expanded rhythm section the group seamlessly blends a down and dirty version of Americana with an eclectic mixture of ingredients derived from Latin and African elements. Defined as consciously perceiving feelings and emotions, ‘Sentient’ - produced by Mark Lawrence of Big in Japan Recordings, promises to deliver just that.

Camaro 67 Heavy Funk, Vancouver B.C. Camaro 67 brings together classic Afrobeat influences (Fela Kuti, Tony Allen), and modern Afrofunk / Groove sounds (Antibalas, Budos Band, The Herbaliser) to produce a propulsive, high-energy, made-in-Vancouver heavy funk experience. This explosive 10-piece instrumental groove-band debuted in 2015, picking up from where Miami Device B.C.’s premier Afrobeat orchestra over the past seven years) left off. As Miami Device, members of Camaro 67 have played jazz, folk and indie music festivals throughout B.C., having opened for international dance/urban artists including K-os, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), Chin Chin and Passion Pit, plus local cohorts in the Vancouver groove scene (Star Captains, Five Alarm Funk, David Ward). Camaro 67 released their debut album on April 8th, and are touring to support the new record.

Festival Friendly Cups

This year Wapiti Music Festival is introducing re-usable stainless steel cups as part of our ongoing effort to reduce waste from the event and enhance attendee experience. The 1 Pint stainless steel cups have been purchased from Glogg, a bespoke stainless steel cup maker in the U.K. Designed and manufactured in the U.K. The cups are designed to replace disposable plastic cups. Glogg created these cups for the world-renowned Glastonbury music festival in England. They’ve been custom etched with the eye catching Wapiti Logo. We have been searching for five years to find a way to reduce the plastic waste generated at the festival, and believe we have finally found it. Wapiti is thankful for the generous support of the United Steelworkers Local 9346 who helped us bring these cups to Fernie. The cups will be sold at Wapiti, in the merchandise tent, and in the beverage garden. They are discounted when purchased with drink tickets. The cups will retail for $10 including taxes. These are stunning cups and we hope people will take them home and use them year-round to remind them of the great time at Wapiti. Please bring them back next year. These cups are meant to be used year after year.

By Kurt Saari Downtown is one of Fernie’s greatest assets. The world knows Fernie for mountains covered in deep snow, world class waterways, and endless trails in gorgeous scenery. People come from every corner of the world to see our nature. When they get here they see it, then they come downtown. We are very proud to be involved in our bustling downtown business district. We are surrounded by other hard working business owners who truly care about the future of our community. We continue to gain the support of citizens who work in the Elk Valley and spend their money in the Elk Valley. We will never be able to thank these people enough for what they do for Fernie. B.C. has endless snowy mountain ranges, waterways, and scenic trails. However, not every community has a gorgeous with multiple restaurants, bars, district downtown business retail locations and professional offices. There are few other communities that come to mind when I consider our population compared to our downtown amenities. Our team at Nevados would like to thank those individuals who have worked for years to bring Fernie’s core back to life. Without your hard work, we would not be here. Without you, Fernie would be a completely different place. Just imagine Fernie without your favourite coffee shop. Imagine it without your best friend who can live here by having a job at that coffee shop. The positive ripple effect our downtown has on

Her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, lust, loneliness and temptation. Her playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies.
