Instructions: Read the story below:
Transportation Design Problem: Ben is a 13 year old, 7th grade, middle school student. He has trouble some mornings getting to school on time.
STOP
The bus stop is a mile away from Ben’s house and both of his parents work during the time it takes him to catch the bus. Also, Ben does not feel safe enough to bike to school by himself. Some days, Ben does not even get to school and misses class for that day. Many students and communities face transportation issues to get from one place to another.
03 Critical Questions: (Answer the questions below about Ben’s situation)
How do you think Ben feels during the situation when he misses the bus?
Design Challenge: How can school transportation bus systems be improved to make it easier for students within your local community to get to school on time? Are there alternative methods that can be used instead of taking the bus?
#1
How many days a week do you travel to school? What form of transportation do you take?
How can you relate to Ben when you cannot get to school on time? What emotion do you feel?
