Love of a Lifetime For 58 years, Don and Miki Vaughan lived, loved, and raised a family in a little red house on Tangerine Avenue. It’s impossible to enter the home without seeing some piece of the past: a wall of line measurements of their kids, Don’s wooden carvings; a bench the two completed together. Most of the home renovations Don did with his own hands. In April, 2021, Don died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). “Don, he never got flustered. I never remember seeing him angry … he was the peacemaker, always calm, always in control,” Miki said. “I’ve got a temper, but he wouldn’t fight. I broke a lot of glasses, slammed a lot of doors. He was my rock.” For most of his life, Don seldom left Miki’s side. This is the longest she’s been without him.

news Winner Winner (No) Chicken Dinner
Citing Supply Chain Issues, Wing Prices Soar – Just in Time for Super Bowl Sunday By Mike Sunnucks
Bars and restaurants face supply chain and inflationary challenges as they ready for one of their busiest days of the year: Super Bowl Sunday. That includes higher prices for chicken wings, a staple for football fans, and grouper, a Florida favorite. Local bars and eateries grapple with higher prices for wings, seafood (including grouper) and other items as well as continued supply chain snafus and shortages impacting food products such as cream cheese as well as some brands and types of alcohol. The price of chicken wings has increased and is expected to go higher for the big game between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. Kim Fowler, owner of the Twisted Tiki restaurant and bar on Corey Avenue in St. Pete Beach, said a case of chicken wings cost approximately $55 in December 2020. Now, the same case — which encompasses 25 to 28 orders – costs $166. “It’s triple the cost,” said Fowler who does significant business during football games. Fowler said the cost of fry oil has also increased adding to the bottom-line pressures. The St. Pete Beach Tiki bar currently sells wings at “market price” on its menu. Fowler said that translates to $15 for an order of 12. “I’m basically breaking even,” she said. Fowler’s not alone among restaurant and bar owners across Tampa Bay – and the country – in listing “market price” for chicken wings, a phrase usually reserved for high-demand seafood items such as grouper, crabs, and lobster. Joe Guenther, co-owner of O’Maddy’s Bar and Grille in Gulfport, said wholesale prices of chicken wings have gone from $2 per pound to $4 per pound. “The price is double,” he said.
Guenther said he’s not seeing shortages of wings, but prices are up – and increasing – as Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 13) approaches. “Every year for the Super Bowl the price goes up. I swear they use that as an excuse,” Guenther said. O’Maddy’s still has a fixed price on its menu for wings — $12.99 for 10 — but will look at changing that after the big football game. Guenther said changing prices would require changing menus, which means added printing costs. “It’s very expensive to change my menu,” Guenther said. He is also seeing increased prices for prime rib as well as seafood — including lobster, crab, and grouper. Guenther said the market price for grouper has recently gone as high as $28 per entree. A grouper sandwich at the popular Gulfport restaurant was running $24.99 on Jan. 31. The grouper entree was listed for $26.99. “It’s crazy. Grouper is way up,” said Guenther. He’s also seen price hikes for lobster and prime rib, and supply challenges for other items. “Crab meat is really tough to get,” Guenther said. The price of wings is also up at local grocery stores, costing as much as $6 per pound. Bars and restaurants were hurt early in the coronavirus pandemic by shutdowns, social distancing rules,

and job cuts. Now, they face strong inflationary winds and challenges in hiring and retaining workers. The U.S. inflation rate was 7% in 2021, according the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index. That’s the biggest increase in prices since 1982. Food prices in particular have risen, stressing consumers at grocery stores as well as restaurants and bars. Supply chain problems persist with food as well as liquor and imported beer, from grocery stores to restaurant stock rooms, in part due to truck driver and port worker shortages; in part due to COVID-19-related shutdowns of Chinese ports. Fowler said she’s had challenges in getting in cream cheese as well as some liquors. In St. Petersburg, Kelli Erskine, bartender at McArthur’s Irish Pub, said the restaurant has faced challenges in getting sausages for its bangers and mash dish. “We’ve been out of bangers. That’s really sad,” she said. As for wings, the prices have increased, with a half-dozen costing $8.99, a dozen $15.99 and 18 wings priced at $24.99, according to Erskine. Nevertheless, the pub will still have an all-you-can-eat buffet on Super Bowl Sunday – for $60.

Gulfport Pet Mayor Candidates Get Real About Sniff Spots By Abby Baker

Gulfport, meet Yoda.
MICHELLE MAURITZ
It’s the question you’ve all been waiting for. “What is the best sniff spot in Gulfport?” We asked five Gulfport Pet Mayor candidates just that.
Moses the tailless cat. Darby’s not afraid to get shady.
Moses
Darby The force is strong in this one. Yoda, a 4-year-old rescue from Kentucky, is a master of Frenchie-style grunts and groans. He never seems to know when playtime is over, but is cute enough to get away with it. “The bleachers around Hoyt Field always have interesting smells, as do the sidewalks downtown, especially with the salty air. But I guess if I had to choose, my absolute favorite sniff spot is at [Wood] Ibis park…there are so many great smells there!”
Moses is a 4-year-old tailless rescue who was found abandoned in a Detroit Church. Owner Bobby Yonder had every intention of taking him to a shelter, but Moses wiggled his way into Yonder’s heart. Moses once wandered Detroit by leash, but is taking his time discovering Florida and has rebranded himself as a relaxation specialist. “Around Bob’s motor scooter in the driveway. Also alley fences where all the feral cat smells are.”
Darby’s an old girl with a heart of gold. She’s a 13-year-old senior who loves people, but gets a little shy around other dogs. Her favorite hiding place is the closet and she starts each morning with a hard investigation of the “doggy newspaper.” That’s what Darby calls an intense sniff session. “My favorite sniff spot is the lamp post by the sea wall by the recreation center.”

At 21, Brianna Melton is directing, choreographing and dancing in the St. Petersburg Ballet Conservatory’s “The Nutcracker.” A ballerina since she was three years old, Melton aims to dance for a Florida ballet company and eventually teach full time. Her parents, Brian and Anna Melton, own the Gulfport-based ballet, so it was no surprise when the young ballerina took a break from searching for a company and stepped in the role of artistic director. For months she’s been training a group of young dancers to take the stage. Melton pins their hair back, makes conversation around the “lipstick mirror”, and works diligently with dancers not much younger then herself. But it wasn’t necessarily on a happy note. This past May, Servy Gallardo, previous artistic director and co-founder with the Meltons, was accused Ballet continued on page 14

Will is a Schnauzer/Boston Terrier mix and has the DNA test to prove it. Girl Power By Abby Baker
For the young women of the Gulfport Montessori Elementary Girlfriends Club, Monday, Jan. 17 was a Martin Luther King Jr. Day to remember. The club marched through downtown St. Petersburg in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Big Parade. It was the first time the Gulfport Montessori Elementary School all-girls club marched in the annual parade. “Ever since I mentioned the parade they haven’t let it go,” said Robin Moore, a counselor at Gulfport Elementary. “The girls are really excited.” Moore heads the group. She works alongside a team of female teachers and administrators who encourage the students to discuss leadership and female empowerment each week for nine weeks. A spot in Gulfport Girlfriends is an exclusive one, Moore says. Every nine weeks, each fourthand fifth-grade homeroom teacher selects four female students to join the club. The girls win prizes, fill

Gulfport Gecko Queen Now (Also) a Princess Elizabeth Hendricks Takes Her Royal Titles Seriously As soon as Toronto transplant Elizabeth Hendricks accepted the Gulfport Gecko Queen crown, she was ready to reign. It’s not uncommon to spot Hendricks in lizard headgear at ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Gulfport events, and, most recently, leading the resurrected First Tuesday Gulfport Clothing Swap. In Hendricks eyes, the Gecko Queen actually had few required duties. Regardless, she makes an appearance. In addition to her Gulfport title, Hendricks will get coronated as a princess in the 2022 Royal Court of Pinellas County; her coronation takes place along six other nominees at the Queen of Hearts Ball on Feb. 19. Royally Local Each year, a lineup of local charities and service-based organizations nominate one woman as princess of the The Queen of Hearts Balls’ Royal Court. The St. Petersburg Women’s Chamber of Commerce chose Hendricks, the chamber’s vice president, as their nominee this year. Her resume included 17 organizations that she’d volunteered with. “I was doing all these things before I became Gecko Queen … I like to spread the word about good Gulfport events, I want more people to know about them,” Hendricks added. “I’m a natural networker.”

to the outdoor space to exchange and donate clothing. All leftover items get bagged and donated to Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA.) Bringing the swap back wasn’t easy. According to Hendricks, the remaining clothing from pre-COVID, stashed away in a Gulfport shed, had deteriorated and the racks rusted. Jon Ziegler reigned as Gecko Queen from 2018-19 and like Hendricks, has a knack for wearing colorful costumes and glitter. Ziegler remembers only three con-
crete events that required his presence during his reign as queen: the Gecko Fest parade, the Fourth of July parade, and Pride. “Things definitely evolved,” he said. “I helped spearhead the vertical oyster garden service project when I was Gecko Queen. Some people have kind of adopted that sort of thing … something to help better the community.” The Queen of Hearts Ball Feb. 19, 6 p.m. The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art, 150 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. $150. queenofheartsball. org

halls their entire childhood, but it wasn’t until they were in their mid twenties, both divorced with children, that they connected. At 26, Miki had moved back in with her parents and stayed home most nights. Her father was sick, and that left little time to worry about meeting anyone. Until one night, she hesitantly agreed to head to Gulfport On The Rocks (the current site of Hurricane Eddies) with some friends. ‘I was never much for bars, but I went with them,” she said. She saw Don across the bar and recognized him from her high school days, but thought nothing of it. A few minutes later he asked her to dance. “I remember thinking ‘I want to stay here the rest of my life’,” Miki said, a sentiment that took her by surprise. “Don went home that night and told his mother, ‘I know who I’m going to marry’.” Miki, a straitlaced, strong woman with no room for absurdity after her recent divorce, had met her match. Don was always smiling, quick to forgive, and slow to anger. It’s little wonder why their initial connection was so strong. “Well, we didn’t have a choice,” Miki said.

watched the city grow for six decades. “We just kind of blended our family,” Miki said. “I can’t say we had a lot of problems.” Don was a building engineer with Allstate, and Miki owned a utility collection business in Tyrone Square. But life was never about work with them. The inseparable pair volunteered for the Gulfport Community Players, created art together, went out dancing in Gulfport, and did everything in between. Miki briefly owned a small gallery on Gulfport Boulevard, Salmagundi, where she would sell her paintings and he would sell his carvings. “Basically everything we did, we did it together,” Miki said. Her two children, Kim and Marc, died in 2008 and 2015, respectively. Peyt, Don’s son, lives nearby. “I’m just saying when I lost him, I was lost,” Miki said. “The kids are gone, Don’s gone, all I have are the cats and the yard.” Sometimes there is no moving on. That doesn’t mean she regrets a moment of her life with Don. Instead, she remembers the love of a lifetime. “But this isn’t meant to be a sad story about a widow,” Miki said. “I hope this can bring hope to someone else out there. Things like this can happen.”

A Community Garden, Gulfport-Style George Zarillo squints in the sun, holding an oversized papaya and rocking an army-green sun hat. He’s exactly what you expect of the organizer of the Gulfport Community Garden. “Probably half of what I eat comes from here,” Zarillo said, still clutching the papaya. The garden that grows out of 5125 Preston Ave. S. doesn’t have a lot of rules. Unlike similar community gardens, gardeners there don’t have to prove Gulfport residency. When it opened in 2009, the garden charged a fee to use the community beds. Today, there’s no restrictions. People can garden and harvest for free, with no requirement to clock a certain number of hours. The gates open twice a week (Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.) to anyone. They work till they’re done, and, so far, it works. “I guess you could say we’re minimalists,” Zarillo said. Each week the garden bears fruits, spinach, and herbs that gardeners can take home. The fresh fruits and vegetables that don’t make it into the volunteers reusable totes get donated to the Gulfport Senior Center Food Pantry. According to Zarillo, the garden

donates hundreds of pounds each year. Gulfport resident Diane Tomain has tended the garden for the last six years. For her, it’s an escape. “It’s my way of meditation,” Tomain said. “Instead of going to church I go to the garden. I guess I like playing in the dirt.”
The City of Gulfport owns the lot and leases it for free, on the condition that the garden club pays its water bill. Gardeners fundraise to pay that bill, as well as for supplies and other gardening costs. Want to help? Find them on Go Fund Me (gofundme.com).

Business Beat: Bizarre Ice Cream + Sea Moss
Get the Scoop on the Latest Business Bits in St. Pete and South Pinellas By Abby Baker
Fat Lenny’s, an offbeat ice cream shop in Erie, Pennsylvania well known for the owner’s wild antics, is bringing its legendary brand (and mascot Scotty Freeman) to Gulfport. “I moved to Erie to be with my partner, and while I enjoy most of it, I never felt like I belonged,” said Scott Pfeifer, Fat Lenny’s creator. “I came here … and I felt like I belonged for once.” Months later, he’s shuttered one of the two Erie locations and moved his purple-painted store at 2148 49th St. S. towards opening. “We’re going to do it a little differently here, a Cheech & Chong feel,” Pfeifer said. “I’d like to see some food trucks, space for people to sit in the back. I think it’ll blend with Gulfport.” The building previously existed as Lynn’s Blue Crab, a seafood store. As a result, the giant blue crustacean sign outside Fat Lenny’s will have to go. Fat Lenny’s style, that is. “I’m thinking of changing it to a pink anarchy sign,” Pfeifer told The Gabber. Pfeifer hopes to open Fat Lenny’s by mid March.

Health Nut Sea moss is the new health solution, says Replenish Thyself owner Jessica Colon. Colon, a St. Petersburg health coach, sold her holistic health sea moss products, GLOW, online and in local stores such as Taste of the Islands Marketplace and Pinellas Farmers Market, for three years. On Feb. 6, she celebrated the grand opening of a brick-and-mortar location at 2335 22nd Ave. S., Suite 16, in St. Pete. Colon’s sea moss products come
in the form of ingestible vitamins or topical gels. Sea moss is a super food, meant to serve as an immune booster, which caused a spike in sales during COVID-19 health precautions. “We were growing more interactive with clients, so this store allows us more face to face chats and pickups rather than deliveries,” Colon said. “People want to be healthier.” The store will host events, “conscious chats,” meal planning, coaching, and demonstrations. replenishthyself.com

Henderson said he worries about the safety of elected officials and their families “having to feel like they’ve got to look over their shoulder, and having to wonder if somebody’s pulling a phone out of their pocket to just get another impromptu video to make you look like an idiot, or if they are pulling a gun out because somebody decided to call for your execution on a social media platform.” Henderson told The Gabber the threat came on YouTube three days after the council’s Jan. 7 meeting, which featured a yelling match between Henderson and Gulfport resident Ray Rodriguez, a frequent and vocal critic of the City. Henderson said the FBI traced the threat to an IP address in Indiana, where local and federal law enforcement investigated the matter, but it appeared the person threatening the mayor’s life used a false name and

potentially a redirected IP address. “They knew what they were doing,” Henderson said. Increased Security At the Feb. 1 meeting, a Gulfport police officer at the council chamber doors used a metal-detecting wand on all attendees. Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent said the City decided to use the wand on council meeting attendees after conversations about the threat and other concerns. Vincent, who has been with Gulfport’s police force since 1994, said he remembers one previous time when metal detectors were used at council meetings. Henderson said it was the first time during his elected tenure in Gulfport, which started in 2009, that metal detectors were used. No arrests have been made in connection with the death threat against the Gulfport mayor. The mayor told The Gabber after the meeting that he wants to make sure his family feels safe. “All this stuff at the national level has gotten contagious,” Henderson said during the council meeting on the toxicity of political discourse and social media. Councilmember Christine Brown (Ward II) said she also has concerns about safety and the current political atmosphere. Brown said during the hearing that she has security

Campus Security Detains Student Until Police Arrive St. Petersburg police arrested an Eckerd College student Thursday, Feb. 3, for allegedly making violent threats to a person off-campus and threatening violence at the school. ‘I Love to Eat’ Serves Tasty Theater for Every Palate By Jeff Donnelly
JOSEPH MICHAEL-KENNETH
Matthew McGee plays American chef, cookbook author, teacher, and television personality James Beard in “I Love to Eat” at freeFall.
There is no Iron Chef, Gordon Ramsay, or Great British Baking Show without James Beard. That’s a wide spectrum of culinary entertainment and maybe it seems a bit bold to name one man as the thread that links them all, but Beard’s legacy is just that profound. freeFall’s new production “I Love to Eat” aims to shine a light on the original celebrity chef, whose influence and approach to food culture set a standard, even if he isn’t as instantly recognizable as his good friend and contemporary Julia Child. James Still wrote the script for “I Love to Eat”, and it qualifies as historical fiction in that it imagines a night in Beard’s kitchen as the chef talks the audience through everything from favorite recipes and cooking tips to painful regrets and heartbreak. It’s a one-man show, with Matthew McGee’s as Beard, up late in the kitchen of his New York apartment on a night (presumably) shortly before his death in 1985. Between taking calls from average citizens seeking cooking tips, whipping
up charcuterie before anyone knew – still one of the most prestigious that was a thing, and carrying on among culinary professionals in the conversations with both Child and U.S. – were named for him, Beard Elsie the Cow (mascot to the sponwas an aspiring opera singer. Two Women, One Show
Their Art Couldn’t Be More Different
Shirley Baldwin and Judy Lightwater have a dual exhibit, ‘Art From the Heart’, at the Catherine Hickman Theater through Feb. 24.
Mixed Media by Monika Watson
More than two years ago Gulfport artist Judy Lightwater booked the Art From the Heart exhibit at Gulfport’s Catherine Hickman Theater. After COVID-19-related delays, Lightwater’s show is on through Feb. 24, and she’s exhibiting alongside Shirley Baldwin, her friend, neighbor, and fellow artist. “In British Columbia we typically have two-people shows,” Lightwater said. “It’s good to have a mix of two different art forms.” Baldwin mostly works with resin and geode fixtures. They are shimmering, practical charcuterie boards and paintings grounded in stones. “I like to add art to places that people see everyday,” Baldwin said. Lightwater, on the other hand, says she’s never done anything functional.

food For the Love of Soup
Soup is for Lovers... and for Singles! Before I was a budding chef, I was a baby ballerina and a young violinist. I attended a fine arts boarding school where music surrounded my life. The more I trained in dance, the more I discovered the role music played in my everyday life. As a chef today, I incorporate music (and some of my most creative choreography) in the kitchen - selecting different songs and playlists depending on the cuisine I am preparing or the mood I want to infuse in my cooking. And I am moody! My parents always joked (although I’m convinced they were half serious) that my life’s soundtrack is the bold third movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (Piano Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor, aka Quasi una fantasia) - frenzied, chaotic and passionate. As I write, I’m constantly reminding myself that I have a deadline, otherwise my brain wanders in three-part-harmonies and dance counts of eight. With February’s romance themes upon us, it’s the perfect time to crank up the heat in the kitchen. To all of you solos, singles, swingers and everyone else, make this Valentine’s Day about your salacious love affair with a titillating meal. Few things are sexier than a steamy crock of French onion soup. Those sweet onions caramelized in butter until they’re brown and tender, the floating baguette delicately soaking up velvety beef broth, and the hardened Gruyere cheese dramatically braced across the top of the crock, ready for your indulgence... that’s food porn at it’s finest. My suggested musical accompaniment to this soup: Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. The adagio musically illustrates a sultry romance while the soup provides an umami warmth inside and out. Try them together – the sensory overload is so worth it!

Have a very French-onion-filled Valentine’s Day
French Onion Soup Yield: 5 8-ounce bowls
Ingredients 2 ounces butter 3.5 yellow onions, lyonnaise cut 1.5 ounces brandy (optional) 1.5 quart beef stock, unsalted Salt & pepper to taste 2 ounces dry sherry (optional) 1 loaf French bread 8 ounce Gruyere or Swiss cheese, shredded Method Heat butter in stockpot over medium heat. Add onions and coat in the fat; cook until golden brown, approximately 45 minutes. (Note: Cooking the onions slowly allows them to fully caramelize and maximizes their sweet flavor. Don’t rush this process!) Deglaze pan with brandy and reduce mixture until nearly dry. Add beef stock, bring to a boil, and sim-

mer until onions get quite tender, about 20 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and sherry. Cook another five minutes. Slice French bread into ⅜-inch pieces and toast. Ladle soup into crocks, arrange bread on top, and cover with shredded Gruyere cheese. Broil until golden brown and serve hot. Cooking is a culinary art, after all, so spice up your fusion of music and food. Let that merengue melt over that salmon and rub that reggae on that ribeye. Dust your tart with a little Latin funk and slow cook in some soft jazz. You’ll find that your food tastes even more fabulous as it dances over your palate with musical melodies in the background. the gabs What is the importance of local business? Photos by Gabby Reeder
Peter Crampton, Iowa: “That’s where most of our employees are at. It’s important that we support the local guy, you know, we can’t let it all go to Amazon and Walmart and all that; we need the local business.”
Lori Slota, Arizona: “The importance of local business is to support the economy and to support your local commerce. To be a good steward of the planet, too.”
Cindy Bauer, Treasure Island: “It supports employees and it supports the community. Wouldn’t be the same without local business.”
John Hendricks, Madeira Beach: “Of course it drives our economy and there’s more and more local business coming onto Madeira Beach. John’s Pass Village is growing. The whole city is growing and that’s good for everybody because it helps keep our taxes lower.”

She was born on June 3, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. She spent her younger years in Michigan where she met our father, Thomas Lee Kronsperger. After marrying and having two children, Kris and Thomas, they moved to Gulfport Florida in 1970. She raised her family and lived most of her life in Gulfport, moving to the north-
east part of Saint Petersburg in her later years. Sharon loved children and worked 30 years as a baker at Bay Point elementary and middle schools. Mom’s love for baking extended all her life. She loved to bake and share cookie recipes with her great grandchildren. She was a Girl Scout leader in Gulfport for 10 years where she was known as “Mom K” by all the girls. Sharon and husband Tom loved national parks and travel. In later years they were able to enjoy seeing many places. Their favorite was cruising to Alaska. Sharon was able to keep a small vacation home in North Carolina to be close to her great-granddaughters. Mom was a member of The Bridge Community Church in Clearwater, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In later years she loved to cook meals and give rides to elderly friends to and from church or needed appointments. Sharon always loved to serve and be a help to others in need. Sharon was preceded in death by her father Gilbert Lange, mother Dorothy Lange, her husband Thomas L. Kronsperger, her brother Donald Lange and a great granddaughter Ana Luiza. She is survived by her brother, William (Bud) Lange, her two children, daughter Kris A. Wysong and husband Bill, her son Thomas G. Kronsperger and wife Marie. Sharon has eight grandchildren, Gina, Justin, Thomas, Jacob, Michael, William, Matthew and Megan. She also had six great grandchildren: Kole, Brina, Jocelyn, Chloe, Charlieann (Grace), and Sophia. A memorial service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held- February 26, 2022 at The Bridge Community Church located at 5251 110th Ave. N., Ste. 102, Clearwater. The receiving of friends will be from 12-1 p.m. The celebration of life service will begin at 1 p.m., with fellowship to follow. To write a memorial comment please go to rlwilliams.com.
Their life deserves more than five lines. We make sharing it affordable.

"she gave me my life back" “It started out as a normal outing. My wife and I had to run to the grocery store. We were driving down the road casually going over our shopping list when the car ahead of me started to slow down anticipating the yellow light. I started to move my foot from the gas to the brake as any normal person would do when they see brake lights in front of them but I couldn’t. I couldn’t feel my foot. The car kept moving forward and I just couldn’t get my foot on the brake. CRUNCH! I finally came to a stop when I hit the car in front of me.”
This story was shared with us by John S, a Tampa Bay area resident who has peripheral neuropathy. While no one was hurt in this accident, John had suffered almost everyday of his life with tingling and burning in his feet until numbness set it and he could no longer feel even the brake pedal beneath his foot. “Typically, the first stage is pain.” shares Dr. Rebecca Gibbons of AAIM| Achieve Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine. “You feel burning, tingling, sharp pains, or you feel like you’re walking on tacks or marbles. This pain eventually subsides and the numbness sets in. Unfortunately the numbness brings with it a whole other host of problems." It is terribly common that peripheral neuropathy and its debilitating symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to live their life.
John was now reliant on his wife to drive him around, What is even more common, John's general practitioner and several specialists told him there was nothing they could do other than prescribe him pills that would ease the pain of his neuropathy. That’s where Dr. Gibbons and her staff at AAIM come in. “About 75% of our current patients come to us suffering from the same condition as John,” tells Dr. Gibbons. "They’re in constant pain from neuropathy and it prevents them from not only living their lives but more importantly, it prevents them from enjoying it. Depending on the severity of their nerve damage, we typically see tremendous progress in 3-4 months of treatment. I like to say we’re in the business of making your golden years golden." "I can't lie," admits John "I was skeptical at first but I had run out of options. Nothing else was helping but after about three months into treatment, I was confidently able to drive myself to Publix and to my appointments. Dr. Gibbons gave me my life back."
