Mural on the Move Drive by Janet Brown’s home in South Pasadena Mobile Home Park and it’s clear the car doors – painted with a Gulfport beach scene – have a story. Brown, a go-getting art lover new to the Gulfport area, is always ready to tell it. In April, Brown’s 1999 Nissan sported the mural, but the car was totaled just a few weeks after St. Petersburg artist Tara Homan completed the final brushstroke. Brown dedicated the mural not just to her newfound beach home, but to her deceased sister, Jenniveve Angus, who passed away from cancer in 2020. When the mural remained unscathed after the collision, she didn’t want to let it go to the junkyard. “The mural is larger than life; there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye,” Homan said. Homan is a boat captain and full-time artist, but before Brown called her, she’d never painted a car mural. To Brown’s surprise, Homan showed up to her home asking to see the mechanical canvas before Brown hired her. The two women clicked, and the idea for a

Gulfport-inspired moving art piece was born. “Her enthusiasm, her inspiration – I knew she was the one,” Brown said. Brown knew she wanted a Gulfport-and-beaches-inspired piece of art on her Nissan, but she left many of the details to the artist. A St. Pete resident, Homan added the Don

REMEMBER: Today is the first day of the rest of your life!
Wanted: Clean Sidewalks My husband and I just returned from our daily walk through Gulfport. It’s a terrific city but it would be even better if the sidewalks were clear of branches and leaves. Homeowners should walk in front of their homes and see if they can pass by without bobbing and weaving. I hope you take pride in your city; it’s a great place. –Cathy Rome, Gulfport
In Support of Airbnbs I wonder if people know how many people have bought homes here after staying in a lovely Airbnb. I hope they can stay open so more people can fall in love with Gulfport. –Charlene Metrano, Gulfport

Gulfportian Loses Car in Fire; Shell Station, Locals, & Senior Center to the Rescue A long-time Gulfport resident in need got some unexpected help thanks to other concerned community members and the power of social media. An unidentified elderly woman experienced major car trouble a couple of weeks ago when her car caught fire at the Shell station and convenience store on Gulfport Boulevard where she frequently stops for gas. An employee of the store posted on a local social media page. “They described the lady and how nice she was, and that it would be a big problem for her not to have her car,” said Margarete Tober, who described the incident during the public comment portion of the May 3 regular meeting of the Gulfport City Council. The post received numerous responses and comments from people offering to help. Tober contacted Rachel Cataldo, supervisor of the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center, asking her to look into it and find out who the lady was as well as what the center could do for her. Cataldo went to the convenience store, where the car still sat, and made some inquiries of the staff. They supplied her with a first and last name as well as a phone number. From there Cataldo phoned the woman and then stopped by her house to sign her up for the senior center’s GEMS (Gulfport Extended MiniBus Service) transportation program. “It is a really simple process,” said Cataldo, who noted that the woman has been a Gulfport resident for 20 years. Detailed information about the GEMS program is available on the city website, mygulfport.us. Tober, when complimenting Cataldo’s actions during her statement to the council, said that Cataldo did all of this within 24 hours after getting her message about the situation. Cataldo was present at the meeting

for a proclamation regarding Older Americans Month. In addition to giving Cataldo a shout-out for her quick response, Tober wanted to raise a little bit of awareness about the services offered for seniors in Gulfport. “I don’t think everybody knows that the Senior Center does that type of stuff,” said Tober. “If there are people in the community in vul-
nerable positions, the Senior Center is there for them, too.” Like others who use the service, this newly enrolled senior has access to a large portion of southern Pinellas County for a $70 annual fee and $2 per trip. She could be without a car for a while. “And this service will be around for a while,” said Cataldo, “so it’s all good.”

Put Your Hands Where Your Mouth Is
Gulfport Fire Department Offers Classes in Mouth-Free CPR, AED, and Narcan By Monroe Roark
Gulfport residents will soon have a new opportunity to gain key life-saving skills from members of their fire department. The Gulfport Cares emergency training program is set to launch this July, Capt. Rene Fernandez informed the City Council at its May 3 regular meeting. “Anytime we can provide the community with education that could result in help to a loved one or bystander, it always brings joy to the people in our department,” Fernandez said. The one-night course is designed to provide members of the community with the knowledge and skills needed to give assistance to someone in need until EMS professionals arrive on the scene. Topics will include hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation and operation of an automated external defibrillator, as well as how to stop bleeding and deal with an opioid overdose. CPR training will include learning CPR for all ages, from adults to infants. The hands-only version is becoming more popular for a couple of reasons, according to Fernandez. “We are finding out that by using hands-only and not interrupting the flow of oxygen, it is helping the survival rate,” he said. “It also gets more
people to do something. There are instances when someone is down but another person won’t jump in to do CPR because they don’t want to give mouth-to-mouth. Hands-only CPR eliminates that, and more people jump in to help.” The AED part of the class will be an intensive hands-on, with all participants taking a turn operating the machine on a practice mannequin. There will be a variety of scenarios related to bleeding that instructors will share with the class.

As for opioids, Narcan trainers will be on hand to show how to administer it. Fernandez said Gulfport fire personnel have been to a number of homes where it was readily available. “There is no prescription required for it,” he said. “It is good to have at the house anytime someone has newly prescribed pain medicines. They could take a couple of pills accidentally and overdose. It doesn’t take much.” The Gulfport Cares class is scheduled for the second Thursday of every quarter beginning July 17 at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th St. S. Future classes are set for Oct. 13 as well as Jan. 12 and April 13 of 2023. Start time is 5 p.m. and the class will likely last a couple of hours, although the organizers will have a better idea once the first class has concluded. The fire department will cap each class at 12 participants. “We feel the smaller the class,” Fernandez said “the better the education we can provide for the people who are there.” The Gulfport Fire Department will distribute flyers throughout the community in the weeks to come, but those who are interested can contact Fernandez now at the fire department.

Nia Tomalin Heads to Barnard
Daughter of Former St. Pete Deputy Mayor Leaves City a Woodson Warrior By Abby Baker
NIA TOMALIN
“I think the fact that there is so much in New York City to experience, it’s all just a subway stop away from me,” Tomalin said.
Since 2019, the Woodson Warriors Scholarship program has awarded academic funds and the title of “Woodson Warrior” to 40 young, Black, college-bound students in Pinellas. This year, Nia Tomalin, daughter of former St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin and Terry Tomalin, the late outdoors editor of the Tampa Bay Times, joined the list of scholars. The St. Pete native will soon trade in her Florida lifestyle to be a pre-law student in New York City. Barnard College of Columbia University accepted Tomalin, a Canterbury School student, this December. She plans to major in human rights pre-law with a concentration in international human rights. “I’ve always had this inclination to serve in advocacy for different movements,” Tomalin said. “My dream is to work with the UN [United Nations] and deal with litigation concerning refugees, peace treaties, times of war.” Kanika told Tomalin about the Woodson Warriors program. The scholarship requires students be Pinellas residents with at least a 3.0 GPA and grants a $5,000 scholarship every year for four years to each recipient. It’s a program by the Dr. Carter G. Woodson Museum, a Black history museum in St. Pete.
“It’s great to see so many years of her hard work pay off,” Kanika said. “She’s ready to soar.” Nia was 12 when her father Terry died of a heart attack in 2016; her brother Kai was 14. “He [Terry] would be so proud of both of my children and what they’ve been able to pursue despite the adversity of losing a parent,” Kanika said. “He gave them a lifetime of love.” Tomalin remembers going with her father on his many adventures, including the now-laughable memory of the two of them flipping a
kayak in the Everglades. “My father fostered my love for the environment and my empathy for nature. He taught me independence and quick thinking. ” Tomalin told The Gabber. “My mother, she’s always been my biggest role model in every way possible.” Tomalin was also inspired by the application essay prompt: Who is the person most important to you in Black history? She said the prompt inspired her so much that she went “off script.” “I wrote about Black writers, it’s idiosyncratic, Black writers tell the story of oppression in an empowering way,” Tomalin said. “They’re able to tell the story of what it’s like to be Black in America. ” Tomalin may have some big shoes to fill, but considering she’s leaving St. Petersburg for New York City as a Woodson Warrior and a future human rights attorney, it’s obvious she’s blazing her own trail. “I know she’s going to do great things for our community, and the world,” Kanika said of her daughter. The Pinellas scholarship is partly funded by the efforts of Jane Bunker, a Gulfport artist who auctions lily paintings each year to benefit the program.

Overheard at Gulfport City Council
From the May 3 Gulfport City Council meeting “I have a boat at the marina. I’m here on a boating issue. I moved here 20 years ago. When I moved here the harbor was closed. We’ve got a great harbor, we have a great town, and you’ve done a great job with it. What I’d like to see you do is finish the job for the marina. The marina is one of the vehicles that makes money for the city. It can make a lot more money than it does. You’ve got a great guy down there in Denis. He has the admiration of every boater I know of that comes into this harbor. But you need to close it out. You need to put a building up and put a restaurant in it. You need to get the Lions Club torn down and out of there. You need to open up that area to the citizens of Gulfport. You all have the power to do it. It’s great boating time right now. Boats are in high demand. It would be so nice for people, even if they didn’t have a boat, to be able to go down there, have dinner, overlook the harbor, overlook the sailboats. It’s just a beautiful life that the water provides. Please finish the job for Gulfport.” –Rick Gilbert, about the Gulfport Municipal Marina At the May 3 meeting, much of the public comment portion of the meeting concerned short-term rentals. Here’s what residents, city
staff, and elected officials said about the issue. “I love this town and I hate to see all my friends move out because of greed.” –Eddie Ford “If a penalty is minimal, there is no incentive to stop illegal activity.” – Linda Breen “We are losing the people who made Gulfport, and that concerns me.” –Noreen Smith “But there is still someone different every month. I still don’t have a neighbor.” –Councilmember April Thanos, Ward I “What I fell in love with in Gulfport was the people. The more of these people who move out, the more we are losing the character of Gulfport. And that’s pretty much the end of us.” –Councilmember Paul Ray, Ward III
to sell this place out to people coming from the outside with big money.” –Mayor Sam Henderson “The issue we have to face in terms of regulating it is that, as another mayor said, everyone wants to move here and then pull up the drawbridge so no one else can. That’s not the way it works.” –Mayor Sam Henderson “A lot of developers are coming in here and building homes out to the max. That puts us one storm away from this being a very different place. The storm we are facing now isn’t a hurricane; it’s interest and money from people who don’t have a real good feel for what is going on here.” –Mayor Sam Henderson
“There’s a lot of things we don’t agree on up here, for sure. We’ve had our go-rounds... If we didn’t have different opinions, there’d be no point in having five people on this council. But I can safely say that nobody sitting up here wants

Yellow Helmet
Gulfport Firefighter/Paramedic Celebrates One-Year Anniversary By Monroe Roark
JUSTIN SHEA
Sean Oldenburg, a Gulfport resident and firefighter/paramedic, earned his yellow helmet after one year on the job. He received his yellow helmet at the May 3 Gulfport City Council Meeting, as shown here with Captain Rene Fernandez, Captain James Lundh, and Lieutenant Erick Fuchs.
Sean Oldenburg, a firefighter/ paramedic with the Gulfport Fire Department, was presented his yellow helmet at the City Council’s May 3 meeting to commemorate the end of his one-year probationary period with the department. Captain Rene Fernandez stated
that Oldenburg and his wife have lived in Gulfport for seven years. Before he was hired in April of 2021, Oldenburg served in the U.S. Army and also gained paramedic experience with Sunstar. Probationary firefighters wear black helmets until they transition

to yellow. The color scheme helps with identification at the scene of a fire where visibility can be difficult, according to Fernandez, and also as a safety measure so that an insufficiently trained individual is not assigned the wrong task at a scene.

Seven Questions with John Hendricks
Madeira Beach’s Mayor Talks About the SunRunner and His Hero By Abby Baker
GN: What’s your best day ever? JH: The day my son was born. Your house is burning and you can only bring one thing (barring family and pets); what do you grab? My phone and computer.
JOHN HENDRICKS

John’s Pass and the John’s Pass Village Boardwalk.
Meet Madeira Beach Mayor John Hendricks.
Madeira Beach is visited by locals, tourists and snowbirds alike. We interviewed the man who runs the beloved beach town, Madeira Beach

Bug Man, Indian Food + Kyle’s Bar
Here’s the Latest Business Beat in Gulfport and St. Pete By Abby Baker
As of this May, Bug Man Termite and Pest Control Services and Supplies is losing the “supplies” piece of its name. The pest control company will still offer services to Gulfport and South Pinellas, but the retail store offering do-it-yourself services at 5301 Gulfport Boulevard has closed. The Bug Man started operating in 1978, Bug Man owner Rick McChesney said. Last year, he moved his retail store from 5217 Gulfport Boulevard to the smaller space at 5301 Gulfport Boulevard. “Due to an increase in prices [and] the lack of product available after COVID-19, it’s just not profitable anymore,” McChesney told The Gabber. The retail store opened in 1990, more than 30 years ago. “I’ve been doing this a long time,” McChesney said. “I learn something new now and then.” He has no plans of shuttering the Bug Man services. “We love Gulfport,” McChesney told The Gabber. “We’ve been a fixture here for a long time, we still have a lot of customers in Gulfport.” Indian Food on Central Those who frequent downtown St. Pete most likely know about one of the city’s staple food trucks, The Twisted Indian. Since 2016, Lokesh Vale has served Central Avenue and surrounding areas, including weekly at St. Pete’s Saturday Morning Market. Early this May, Vale put his long-term plan

into action and opened a standalone Twisted Indian restaurant at 2639 Central Avenue. “So far, so good,” Vale said. “The response is good, despite hours being limited.” The casual food feel that The Twisted Indian is known for is still in play despite the restaurant’s move, Vale said. The candy-apple red restaurant will sell its well-known dishes such as chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, vegan dishes, and wraps. “People should know this is not traditional Indian; it’s quick service – more modern and approachable,” Vale said. Soon, fans of The Twisted Indian may see more vegan options, but for now the kitchen staff is still finding their brick-and-mortar legs. around anymore to cheer and raise his glass, but his spirit lives on at Caddy’s. The Gulfport waterfront bar will dedicate one of its Tiki bars to Kramer, renaming it “Kyle’s Bar” at a celebration on Sunday, May 22. Fellow bartender Tracie Rider worked with Kramer for his entire eight months of employment at Caddy’s. “I think Kyle would be ecstatic and honored that we’re doing this for him,” Rider said. “He was always happy, always smiling, always telling us he loved us.” Last August the police found Kramer’s body at Mariner’s Cove Marina. Police found no signs of foul play or struggle, and they found Kyle’s sailboat nearby. “The report indicates that he lived on that sailboat,” Gulfport Sergeant and public information officer Thomas Woodman told The Gabber. Kramer’s family and friends will remember him every day with a permanent fixture in one of his favorite and most frequented places, Caddy’s. Caddy’s will have live music and drink specials featuring Kramer’s specialty, Milagro Margarita Rocks. Profits from the sales of Kyle’s favorite drink will be donated to “Love the Golden Rule,” a St. Petersburg healthcare group that specializes in HIV/ AIDS and Hepatitis care. “He was like a brother to me; we were all one big family at Caddy’s,” Rider said. “I bet he’d be super stoked about this.”

The Locals Guide to Tampa Bay: Inside the Beaches Go Where the Locals Go
When I was a blissfully unaware student at the University of South Florida, I constantly made the trip over the bridge to the Gulf Beaches (it was cheaper than the theme parks or the Tampa bars) and it was $5 to park in the parking lot across from the Treasure Island Caddy’s. I went last weekend and it was $35 on a Sunday. It’s no secret that tourists long ago discovered our beaches. It’s understandable; our shores are a sandy oasis for out-of-towners and locals alike. St. Pete Beach You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy the salty lifestyle for a day on St. Pete Beach. Merry Pier [801 Pass-a-Grille Way] reopened this February after six months of renovations. There’s guided fishing charters (no experience needed) such as the deep sea Offshore Hustler and a drinking cruise for those less hook handy, Miss Pass-A-Grille. If nothing else, the Merry Pier Fish Market sells some of the best scallops by the pound I’ve ever tried. The Gulf Beaches Historical Museum is the pinnacle of historical knowledge on St. Pete Beach. As a connoisseur of dive bars, I assure you that Treasure Island’s R Bar, 245 108th Ave., is a low-key joint with actually good crab legs. It’s not as flashy as Caddy’s or Ricky T’s, but there’s shorter wait times and the seafood prices are dirt cheap. There’s even a classic and ancient Tiki bar bar lit with a neon beer sign. Order the peel-andeat shrimp and thank me later. This next one is reserved for a lazy Sunday, and please hold your eye rolls. The Treasure Island Drum Circle meets every Sunday at 3 p.m. behind Bilmar Beach Resort, 10650 Gulf Blvd. It’s a group of drummers, dancers, drinkers, and beach fanat-
ics who wiggle and make sounds until sunset. You’re bound to hear a good story or two. Madeira Beach If you avoid the ice cream and t-shirt shops, there’s a zoo of Florida critters and invasive species living on the second floor of the John’s Pass strip. The Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center, 12973 Village Blvd., is a hands-on wildlife rescue on Madeira Beach. There’s mini coral reefs, grown for conservation, skunks, alligators (you can kiss them for a donation) and even a group of oinking pot-bellied pigs thought to be “minis” but abandoned when they reached their full size. If you’re like me and plan to skip planting a wet one on a gator, visitors are still welcome to donate. And please, wherever you go, remember to bring reusable water bottles and totes. Nothing worse than a beach full of Publix bags and solo cups, especially during sea turtle season.

arts Something Blue with Ferrulo
Treasure Island Dancer Working on Next Big Blue Production By Abby Baker
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania before her family moved to Europe. At age 8, Ferrulo lived in Copenhagen, Denmark when her mother saw an ad for ballet audi-
ALICE FERRULO
Once a year, Black Horse Theater mounts a production that aims to reveal a raw human state of being. It’s always the work of performance artist and Black Horse Theater owner Alice Ferrulo, and after a COVID-19-induced halt in 2020, this former ballerina is ready to get back in the swing of things. She calls it “Something Blue,” and plans to debut her show at the ArtsXchange in June 2023. It’s a play on the wedding phrase, “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue,” and will work as an art exhibit paired with performances from Ferrulo, dancers from Tampa Ballet Company, and artwork. The display will use only one color – blue, and have themes ranging from water to sadness. “I’m very interested in looking at the world from a different angle and portraying that,” Ferrulo said. Ferrulo has starred in many local performances, including her own theater piece, Tied at Studio@620 in 2019, and Victoria Jorgenson’s Landemic film exhibit. She’s a familiar face in the St. Pete arts world, but this is a discovered home for Ferrulo. Where did the dancer grow up? “I’ve lived in so many different places, I don’t really know where to call home,” Ferrulo told The Gabber.
She’s a former ballerina at the World Danish Ballet in Denmark. “There’s nothing like live performance,” Ferrulo said.
tions at the World Danish Ballet. The Pennsylvania-born child had no previous dance experience, and no ballet equipment. Nonetheless, the family nanny took her to the Danish audition where Ferrulo
wore a bathing suit and hoped for the best. “I was one of the first accepted,” Ferrulo said. “It took incredible discipline. I spoke English, the language of ballet is French, and the school was in Denmark. That’s probably why I’m so visual today.” Ferrulo later joined Paris- and New York-based Calck Hook Dance Theater and New York-based Blondell Cummings and Dancers. In the late ‘80s, she supervised the telemarketing department of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. She eventually moved to Tampa where she taught dance professionally, among other things. In 2006, Ferrulo found herself in St. Petersburg with the time and ability to focus on her work. She opened Black Horse Theater as an umbrella company for her exhibits, performances, and theater. “There’s so many ways to categorize what one does; I’m an image maker,” Ferrulo said. “I think for me it’s designing images that are powerful, real.” As raw and dark as her work gets, it’s never gothic. “I think it’s [Black Horse Theater] dark in reference to the absurd,” Ferrulo said. “What is dark in life, what is dark in human beauty. A lot of art doesn’t like to examine that, but I do.”

her life. “When I think of Gulfport, the first thing I think of is the palm trees and the geckos,” Homan said. The mural didn’t come into existence without resistance. When Homan completed the mural the first time, the sealing process caused a chemical reaction that destroyed the mural the next day. Homan completed the mural a second time in one month at the expense of the car painting company, Econo Auto Painting & Body Works. Less than a week later, she got a call that the car was totaled – but this time the mural was spared. “It was a miracle that the mural remained intact,” Homan said. After wrestling with the insurance company, a friend of Brown removed the doors and the piece of art moved to its new home. Originally from the West Indies, Brown moved to America as a young girl. She lived in New York and New England before retiring from her career as a history teacher and investing in real estate in Charlotte, North Carolina. She credits her career transition to her sister, who worked as an investment banker before volunteering full time with the Red Cross. “She was an angel, really,” Brown said, remembering her sister. “She had close to a photographic memory. We called her ‘four eyes’ and

she was so smart – so, so, smart.” She still reaches for her phone when she gets an idea or sees something that reminds her of Angus, Brown said. The two women never lived in Florida at the same time, but Brown would visit her sister in Port Charlotte often. It was on one of those visits that she decided to uproot her life and move to the St. Petersburg area. Brown was moved by the art and culture in the city, she vowed to make a life for herself down south and commission a mural. “That’s [the murals] something that sold me, it tells me that the
people care more about art and culture than the … value of their house,” Brown said. Or the value of their car, she adds. While Angus’s spirit lives on in Brown’s car door mural it’s all part of her healing process. “I miss driving down the street and calling her; I could call her for anything,” Brown said. Brown says as sentimental as the work is, she’ll find the painted doors a new home if she ever leaves the Gulfport area. “They belong in Gulfport,” Brown said. For now, she and her mural will stay put.

food Vegan Treats with a Teenage Baker
Truffles are her Speciality, With Help From Her Mentor Macaron Maker By Abby Baker
SADIE EVERT
Barbara Baker is Martinez’s mentor. She’s also the baker and owner behind Moonlit Macarons, a St. Pete-based Macarons company.
The first time I tried Joleah Martinez’s truffles, I was shocked to learn they were vegan. Each truffle is gooey, milky (yet milk-less), and nestled in a tiny Easter egg-colored cup. I was also shocked that Martinez, the baker, is 13 years old. With support from her mother, Martinez says the first time she sold her vegan truffles was at a St. Petersburg kratom bar that her mother frequents. Watching her first real customer try something she made was a game-changer for the young Martinez. “It felt like a great success,” Martinez said. “It felt like I could do this for a business.” Martinez is a Pinellas County home-schooled student who lives a vegan lifestyle. She found a vegan truffle recipe and tried making it, never expecting to start a small business. “My family is raw and vegan and we were looking for a recipe. The first time I tried making them it was really hard, but my mom said they were super good,” Martinez said. “I started selling that at the kratom bars, and then the markets.” The St. Pete teen has the raw talent to be a vegan baker, but she was (obviously) new to the industry. Martinez connected with Bar-
bara Baker, the owner of Moonlit Macarons. Baker, remembering the beginning difficulties of entering the dessert industry and impressed with Martinez’s youthful ambitions, agreed to help her grow her talent. “She just makes me smile; she’s such a rock star,” Baker said. Barbara Baker is Martinez’s mentor. She’s also the baker and owner at Moonlit Macarons, a St. Petebased macarons company. Baker makes her colorful, fluffy,
sweet macarons out of her St. Pete condo. Regarded as one of the most difficult desserts to make, she vowed to master the art of macarons. It took two years to hone her craft. “They are challenging and delicious,” Baker told The Gabber. “It’s a very scientific process; the Florida humidity is the biggest challenge. Nobody can open a door when I’m baking.” Today, other macaron bakers come to her for advice, and her youngest student, Martinez tops that list. “She just blossoms and glows, and her exchanges with customers are so wholesome. I remember my first market; I was a train wreck,” Baker said. Martinez is still working on her packaging and LLC status, but she hopes to name her vegan pastry company Bunny’s Truffles and operate out of St. Petersburg. “I learned from a cookbook, but I hope to have my own business one day,” Martinez said. High aspirations for a 13-year-old baker, but she’s on the fast track to vegan glory.

the gabs Would you buy real estate in a flood zone? Photos by Abby Baker
Ran Flugstad, Gulfport: “I would. I live in Gulfport and I’m renting but we would definitely buy a house if we could afford it.”
Merve Selph, St. Pete: “It depends. I would buy in a flood zone if the streets are not being flooded often. We live in Florida, so it’s expected to flood.”
Jennifer Phelps, St. Pete: “Depends on the irrigation quality of the streets. I wouldn’t buy in say, Shore Acres, because people are always getting stuck there. If the irrigation is correct then it’s not a problem.”
Caitlin Venancio, Rhode Island: “I would say probably not. I’m younger, and I’m thinking about the future and climate change is going to affect this area. I’d definitely want to invest in property a little further from the coast.”
