Shara Bunis Blooms After a year working as a fulltime painter and teacher, Shara Bunis finally feels comfortable calling herself an artist. Being selected as the 2021 recipient for the Gulfport Merchant Chamber’s Rise & Shine Emerging Artist Grant solidified this. She couldn’t have done what she does now, in her 60s, when she was in her 20s. “I’ve only been painting for three years now,” Bunis said. “How I paint is how I am; I’ve had to learn patience. Watercolor is about patience. When I was younger, I didn’t have the dedication or stick-to-it-ness that I have now.” Since receiving the $500 grant, Bunis has accepted a role as vice president of The Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, taught watercolor classes at Gulfport’s Beach House 5317, and exhibited at the Gulfport Fine Arts Festival. The grant is not as much about the funds awarded as it is the publicity and platform that comes with the title. One of her signature creations, a sunflower that she painted before the Russia-Ukraine War, has been an icon of hope in local efforts to raise money for Ukrainian causes.

Abby Baker has been a gem to work with, both personally and in relation to her stories about the LGBTQ Resource Center. Her story about Allendale Methodist is another good one, as is her welcome of Julia Pettit to the Gulfport Library…and her articles on the Sunflower School, the Business Beat, Gabberlife, Arts, and the upcoming Gecko Art Show! Welcome, Jen Ring – I’d say you’re going to be busy! Change really is the only constant, and one change I’d like to suggest is to the headline on Abby’s final cover story. “Worship or Activism” sounds like they are mutually exclusive. Jesus’ example of bringing the “good news” of a loving God by challenging the status quo is only one example of activism as worship. Anyone who has engaged in nonviolent resistance or marching for civil rights knows they, too, are deeply rooted in faith. As Rev. Andy Oliver points out, “Show me where in the Bible it says you can’t marry two loving people.” Affirming two individuals’ commitment to each other is, in fact, the oldest value shared by all religious faiths: Do unto others as you would have them do to you. –Susan Gore, Gulfport
Rent Increases Ruining Gulfport I’m concerned about our little eclectic town of Gulfport. I know we have lost and are still losing those people who have made this town so special. We are losing our friends and family due to high unexpected and sometimes astronomical increases in rent! I want to address this crisis in some form or another. I urge every resident in the city of Gulfport to help use your voice to make a change. Come to the next city council meeting and share your experience and thoughts on this subject. Let’s also have a community discussion in a town hall meeting. Lets find solutions! We need your help and support to keep our town di-
verse and unique to protect our economically vulnerably residents from being priced out of town. The next Gulfport City council meeting is Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. available through Zoom, and in person at City Hall. –Noreen Smith, Gulfport

Snippets of Conversation from the Aug. 2 Gulfport Council Meeting By Monroe Roark
“I didn’t think it was going to be possible to not give everybody an increase this year, so with inflation the way it is, if you’re going to do that for a year, this is the year.” –Mayor Sam Henderson on the proposed three-year rate structure for water and sewer, which would freeze costs for the first year “For someone on a fixed income, a dollar off their bill when they’re being frugal with their water is not significant … The cost should be passed on to big users. That’s just my opinion.” –Councilmember April Thanos on proposed new water rate structure “But you’re going to put a bigger burden on local businesses and drive businesses out of Gulfport.” – Councilmember Michael Fridovich in response to Thanos’ comment
because of that risk.” –Consultant Andrew Burnham in response to Thanos’ suggestion that the highest water users at 20,000 gallons or more a month pay the highest rate per gallon for all of their usage instead of on a tiered plan “The thing that causes sand in the gears is the thought of someone subsidizing someone else’s water bill.” –City Manager Jim O’Reilly on water rate discussions in the city more than a decade ago including proposals such as what Thanos suggested “You know my name. I’ve spoken here many times about the criminal activities going on at the Boca Ciega Yacht Club … You’re giggling over

here, Mr. O’Reilly, but you’re lying and covering up the information. I’m starting to think you’re complicit in the theft of millions of dollars from the residents of Gulfport … You keep asking me for evidence, Mayor. You know where that evidence is? It’s in your vaults, being hidden and protected, and destroyed by Chief Vincent … Did Mr. Salzman send three federal agents to my house on Friday? Did Mr. Salzman send four armed men on Feb. 28 to take me out of my home? … I am not a man who will be taking this anymore.” – Ray Rodriguez, during a portion of his tirade in which he renewed his threat to sue the city, the police department, and the BCYC “Mr. Rodriguez, I suggest you take

You on the dais know that we don’t always agree, but there’s not a single person up there that I think has done anything criminally, and I wish to the dickens that Mr. Rodriguez would shut up.” –Margarete Tober “I apologize to the people who come in here and do public comment the right way. I have to err on the side of giving somebody their rights under the law. But if someone has made allegations against people who work for our City … At some point, if they never actually take you up on that threat to go get an attorney, then perhaps there’s a lot of bluster and a lot of hollowness and a lot of chest-pounding about it. In the end, the rights for people to be able to come up here and make public comments are reasonable. Frankly, I’m treating this as giving them some more rope. There has been a lot of what I would consider defamation and slander that happens up here. So just know that when these things are happening, we appreciate those of you that are able to have a disagreement like a civil human being, and I realize that some of you have to sit through those things that we listen to. But there will come a time when things will come to a head, and if something is actionable we will pursue it. My advice to anyone who is taking the kind of stance that our guest this evening was having in public comment: At some point you need to take that action or you need to drop it. Because in the end, if you are going to make those allegations, you’d better show up with something that shows there’s some substance to what you say. And the fact that we haven’t seen any of that really leads me to believe that somebody is just taking advantage of an opportunity to be a bully.” –Mayor Henderson

Man Arrested at Gulfport City Council Meeting Police Charged Ray Rodriguez with Criminal Mischief Ray Rodriguez spoke loudly and forcefully to the Gulfport City Council while making numerous allegations of criminal behavior by various City officials. Ten minutes later, he was in handcuffs. Gulfport police charged Rodriguez with criminal mischief for damage he did to City Hall property as he left the building on Aug. 2, according to Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent, who is a regular attendee at City Council meetings and personally took part in apprehending the suspect. After Rodriguez addressed the council during public comment, he walked out of the council chambers and opened the door with such force that he drove the door stopper into the wall and damaged a portion of the sheet rock with the door handle. Vincent, who was sitting in the back row, witnessed this and got up to follow him outside, accompanied by one of his officers. “I went out and told him to stop, and he started running,” said Vincent. “We jumped in the patrol car and followed him down the street, and eventually he stopped running.” As he was being placed in the back of the police car, after getting handcuffed, Rodriguez could be heard by

several bystanders calling for help. Rodriguez was transported to the Pinellas County Jail where he will likely receive a light bond for the misdemeanor charge, according to Vincent. The chief added that it could be upgraded to a felony if the damage amounts to more than $1,000. That will not be known until after an evaluation by City officials

Beaches Chamber’s Monte Carlo Casino Night Benefits Environmental Committee Roulette and showgirls aren’t the first thing you think of when you head to the beach — but on Monte Carlo Casino night, they are. For one night the Treasure Island/ Madeira Beach Chamber of Commerce turns The Club at Treasure Island into a casino. This year, the eighth annual Monte Carlo Casino Night Fundraiser takes place on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. The chamber rents casino games (craps, poker, roulette, and slot machines) and hires showgirls and musicians to transform the beach town into Las Vegas for a night. “It’s a fun, formal, dressy event that allows people to let off steam and have fun,” said TIMB Chamber President and CEO Barry Rubin. It’s a fun time, but it’s also a moneymaker for the chamber’s conservation organization, the Beaches Environmental Committee. The chamber runs the committee, which

The committee organizes cleanups, assists with conversation marketing, helps with sea turtle and bird nesting sites, and supports leaders such as State Representative Linda Chaney, who formerly served as a St. Pete Beach commissioner, Rubin told The Gabber.
“The environment is important to us; the beach is to us like oil is to Texas,” Rubin said. If you’re thinking of trying your luck at the Aug. 13 event, Rubin says you’ll need more than that. “I don’t need luck, it’s all skill,” Rubin told The Gabber. Water Taxes
How Southwest Florida Water Management Spends Its Share of Your Tax Bill Do you know where all the money on your property tax bill goes? There are the obvious destinations, such as the Pinellas County government and Pinellas County School Board. These likely make up the bulk of what you pay. Closer inspection reveals a few others that are so much smaller they may have been missed completely. One of these is Southwest Florida Water Management District, listed in the bottom half of the Pinellas County residents’ tax bill. That organization’s governing board voted July 26 to roll back its millage to 0.226 for the 2023 fiscal year. For the owner of a $150,000 home with a $50,000 homestead exemption, that adds up to $22.60 per year or about $1.88 per month. By now some readers are wondering, “What do these people do with my money?” The Southwest Florida Water Management District was created in 1961 as a flood protection agency. Its responsibilities have since grown to include managing the water supply, protecting water quality, and preserving natural systems that serve important water-related functions. According to its website, the District encompasses about 10,000 square miles in all or part of 16 counties and serves a population of nearly six million people, working to meet the needs of current and future water users while protecting and preserving the water resources within its boundaries. Its proposed 2023 fiscal year budget is $212.9 million, which includes $91.8 million for cooper-

lorem property taxes as well as other intergovernmental sources. The Florida legislature allows the district to levy up to one mill in tax, but the actual levy is much lower. The current fiscal year adopted millage rate is 0.2535 and the new rollback is 10.8% lower, which officials said will save taxpayers about $15.5 million. The district’s governing board is made up of 13 members, all volunteers appointed by the governor, and confirmed by the Florida Senate. The governing board sets policy and administers the budget. The District has a budget meeting scheduled for Sept. 6 at 5:01 p.m. and the governing board will vote on the final budget Sept. 20, also at 5:01 p.m. Both meetings will take place at the Tampa Service Office, 7601 U.S. Hwy. 301.

No Swimming at Maximo
Blue-Green Algae Blooms Persist in Tampa Bay By Nano Riley
Beach. Dogs will lick their fur, delivering a double dose of the toxic algae. And in recent years there has been an alarming rise in canine fatalities as summers get increasingly warmer, allowing these blooms to thrive. What’s a HAB?
The Florida Department of Health has an active alert for blue-green algae at Maximo Park and near Pinellas Point.
There’s still an alert for the blue green-algae bloom at Maximo Park, according to the Pinellas County Health Department. The toxic algae bloom was reported on June 30, and the beach was closed to prevent swimming and other water activities. “We expect the warnings to be posted for the next few weeks,” said John K. Stanley, the City of St. Petersburg’s Environmental Compliance Manager at the Environmental Compliance Division of Water Resources Department. “The DEP sends monitors about every 30 days, and when they can’t detect any cyanobacteria in a surface water sample, they’ll remove the alert,” he said. Stanley explained the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) issued the health alert for the area of Maximo Park after cyanotoxins from blue-green algae were identified in the waters around Maximo Point, at Sunshine Skyway Lane, and Pinellas Point Dr. South, all near St. Pete. “The Pinellas DOH is responsible for the signage and they’ll stay in place until the DEP monitors find no cyanotoxins,” said Stanley, adding: “They post alerts in an abundance of caution so folks know to avoid contact with the water.”
Why is Cyanobacteria So Dangerous? Cyanobacteria may contain dangerous microcystins, neurotoxins affecting the nervous system, and often cause nausea and vomiting If humans or pets swallow or ingest algae-contaminated water. In severe cases, it can also cause acute liver failure. Residents are advised to avoid any contact with the water during the blue-green algae bloom, the DEP alerts caution. The blue-green algae is especially toxic to children and pets. In 2021, a dog named Bella died after being exposed to toxic blue-green algae water while boating with her family on the C-51 canal in West Palm

Dubbed Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs) by scientists, they are very common near Lake Okeechobee, where they frequently proliferate during the summer months, especially as seasonal rains require the Army Corps to drain Lake O to prevent overflow. But with increased pollution from agriculture and increased development, they’ve become more common, occurring in our local lakes and rivers as well as coastal beaches. “We also have warnings posted at Lake Pasadena, because there’s a walk around it where lots of people walk their dogs,” said Stanley. In mid-June, a surface water sample detected blue-green algae at Lake Disston, which Stanley said is more of a retention pond in northwest St. Pete. If you see a large patch of green swirling slime in the water this summer, best to avoid contact. The DEP has a place on its website to report a suspected HAB, and they will check the location. You can find out more about HABs and how to report them at the Pinellas County Health Department website. The DEP Blue-Green Algae Task Force issues weekly alerts about all confirmed HABs occurring statewide.

New Water Plan on Tap
Low-Volume Users Could See Rate Cuts; High-Volume Users Could See Increase By Monroe Roark
The Gulfport City Council will consider making changes to its water and sewer rate structure at its Aug. 16 meeting. Council heard a presentation from an outside consultant at its Aug. 2 meeting. In the wake of some feedback from residents regarding the rates, particularly some concerns that residents with lower incomes who do not use as much water might be paying too much, the rate structure analysis from Andrew Burnham of Stantec Consulting Services included some recommendations for tweaking that structure. Burnham pointed out that the City has used ARPA capital funding for certain needed repairs and acquisitions such as water meters and For households using less than 2,000 gallons of water, utility bills could decrease manhole restoration. Business Beat: Missy, Punky’s Closed + Craft Kafe in Tampa The Latest Business Beat in Gulfport, St. Pete, and Tampa By Abby Baker
Missy Gosselin is the GMC’s first full-time paid employee.
Meet Missy The Gulfport Merchants Chamber is growing, and after interviewing a handful of candidates, the organization hired its first full-time employee as operations director: Missy Gosselin. Her position is a first for the GMC, but Gosselin’s a familiar face around Gulfport. Gosselin worked as the part-time operations manager role until moving into the fulltime role. Her new role will involve overseeing day-to-day operations for the GMC, managing markets (she previously ran the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market), increasing membership, and engaging with businesses and the public. She will also serve as the face of the chamber. “I get to be a part of what makes this city so wonderful! I love having the ability to work with members and the community,” Gosselin said. Gosselin is a Gulfport resident and mother of two. She began working for the chamber in late 2020.
After nearly seven years, Punky’s Bar and Grill closed unexpectedly on the morning of August 3. “Punky’s has been such a joy for so many people, but she is ready to retire… gracefully,” Punky’s posted on Facebook following the closing. The LGBTQ+ bar at 3063 Central Ave., St. Petersburg was known for beer, wings, and charity drag queen bingo. The games were hosted by local queen Georgia Moore, and on Wednesday, Punky’s released that the restaurant raised more than $150,000 for good causes since opening in 2015. As for Punky’s employees, the restaurant announced that the owners will be “providing solid leads for new workplace opportunities for them to consider.” The business will also distribute leftover food and supplies to the out-of-work employees, and donate the remaining bit to charity. It’s unclear what will happen to the Central Avenue location at this time. Tampa’s Slice of Gluten-Free Since opening, Craft Kafe has existed only in St. Petersburg. On Aug. 3, the gluten-free restaurant opened a third location in uncharted territory, South Tampa. The cafe, at 442 W. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa sits on the same block as Oxford Exchange and Fly Bar. Craft Kafe’s claim to fame is its
ability to bake pastries, pizzas, and bread without gluten. “The intention was to bring the bakery experience that everyone grows up having, but have everything gluten-free,” said owner Teddy Skiadiotis. “Before this, when I would Google ‘gluten-free bakeries’, they’d maybe have a muffin or a cupcake. I wanted to do everything gluten-free, so people don’t even have to ask.” While Skiadiotis owns Craft Kafe, he belongs to a family who owns two other popular eateries: Skidder’s Restaurant on St. Pete Beach and Neptune Grill in Gulfport. He coowns Skidder’s with another family member. Skiadiotis got his gluten-free break after making a pizza for Skidder’s customer June Radcliffe in 2006. Radcliffe walked into the beach diner with an intolerance for gluten and was dismayed to see no options for her. Sensing her frustration, the Greek restaurateur offered to make her a gluten-free pizza if she came back the next day. “She brought me a card with stickers and thank yous, and I still think about her years later,” he told The Gabber. The third Craft Kafe location will bring the same flavor as the downtown and West St. Pete locations. He plans to expand the gluten-free empire even farther, without sacrificing quality.

Happy Hoodlums, it appears, was not a happy accident. “It was a melting pot of ideas that all came together at once. We needed an edgy theme which has been the hot trend since the famous ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club’ project (Which sell for roughly $100,000 each),” Stanable told The Gabber. While the pair was discussing name options, a plane dragging an advertisement banner with a giant smiley face zoomed nearby. The name was born: Happy Hoodlums. “A big part of our project is that everyone who mints one of our NFTs will receive a custom made hoodie that will match the same NFT you receive,” he added. “That’s where the Hood-lums part came from.” As it goes with NFTs, it’s unclear what the response from the cryptocurrency community will be. Despite this, Happy Hoodlums plans to donate $10,000 to local fire and police departments in Pinellas – most likely to Treasure Island departments. “Our goal right now is to pledge $5,000 to the police departments and $5,000 to the fire departments within Pinellas county,” Stanable said. “We do not know the financials of those departments in detail so we are going to leave it up to them as to how that money could best be used.” The creators met Happy Hoodlums graphic designer Morgan Marshall virtually. She’s a cryptocur-

Eugenie Bondurant Walks the (Balenciaga) Walk
St. Petersburg Actress Was Unrecognizable at New York City Fashion Show By Abby Baker
BALENCIAGA
Models in latex masks walked the runway of Wall Street’s New York Stock Exchange for the Balenciaga SPRING 23 – NYC SHOW.
St. Petersburg actress and model Eugenie Bondurant (“The Conjuring 3”, “The Hunger Games”, “Fear of Rain”) isn’t a newbie on the runway, but this May was her first runway dressed nearly entirely in latex. Bondurant didn’t bat an eye. “Aside from the heat factor of the latex, for me, it wasn’t too bad. I have worn latex for film shoots before so I wasn’t caught off-guard,” Bondurant said. On May 22, live streamers and
New Yorkers tuned in for the Balenciaga SPRING 23 – NYC SHOW set on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Models walked the Wall Street venue completely disguised in wraparound masks and black clothing. The anonymity was intentional. “The trading floor … serves as a runway for models whose identities are obscured by fetish bodysuits,” Balenciaga writes on their website.
The 6-foot, 1-inch, 61-year-old woman worked as an actor and model in her late 20s while living in New York City. She never expected to still be acting and modeling at 61, but here she is. She first got the call to model with Balenciaga when the fashion company’s designer Demna Gvasalia saw her in “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it.” She played a frightening, stiff-faced role as the Occultist in the supernatural thriller. “I am a Meisner-trained actor, which means in order for me to justify the actions of my character, I use my imagination and base it in truth. We must sew a seed in truth somewhere so that our acting appears believable,” Bondurant said. “Does this mean that I am anything like this character? Well, let’s hope not.” Participating celebrities, actors, and creatives stayed in different rooms before and after the show. While Bondurant didn’t meet any Kardashians, she did exchange words with her fair share of pop-culture icons. “I did however, change with Christine Quinn of ‘Selling Sunset’ who was absolutely charming,” Bondurant said.

It was hard for me to put myself in the public eye with artwork I wasn’t fully comfortable with,” she told The Gabber. “But I didn’t do it alone.” She’s still creating her dreamlike, nature-centric watercolors, but Bunis plans to spend some time working on her memoir and traveling in the coming year. Interested in becoming a GMC Emerging Artist? The Gulfport Merchants Chamber will accept applications until August 25. The GMC
will award two grants, valued at $500 each, along with a platform at local events and spaces. (See the application with complete details at visitgulfportflorida.com/ grants.) “I want to thank the GMC for trusting me and awarding me this opportunity,” Bunis said. “Previous grant winner Paula Roy helped me so much by offering encouragement. She didn’t know me, but she took my call. I’d like to pass on that encouragement to the next winner(s).”

Saving the Best for Last
freeFall’s Treatment of Neil Simon’s ‘Rose and Walsh’ is Masterful Neil Simon’s “Rose and Walsh” is his final work and, in freeFall’s production, director Eric Davis and his creative team birth such a fine production that they make Simon’s final work, his best. The play begins in the middle of the night in the Long Island seaside home of Rose Steiner (played with great humanity by Stephanie Dunnam), a celebrated writer who hasn’t produced work in years, who is facing financial hardship and declining health and mental acuity. As she descends the stairs to her living room, she frantically calls for Walsh (played commandingly by Patrick Sullivan), her decades-old romantic companion and a celebrated writer himself. The dialogue crackles with humor, love, and frustration that only occurs between two old lovers, but we learn Walsh is a ghost from Rose’s memories. The audience wonders if Walsh is a paranormal visitor or a part of Rose’s coping with her diminishing mind. Walsh died years before, yet he’s alive and boisterous, and concerned about Rose’s well-being. He tells Rose he’s “retiring” from visiting her in two weeks, urging her complete his unfinished manuscript, which Walsh says will be a gold mine for

Rose. All Rose wants is to spend the two weeks with Walsh before he leaves forever. She begs him to come to the bedroom, but Walsh won’t relent. She resigns herself, saying, “Sex with a dead man isn’t half as good as what I was led to believe.” Dunnam is a force of nature, portraying Rose with acute detail, humor, and compassion. Sullivan’s Walsh has so much life and passion that I forgot his character was a figment of Rose’s imagination. Arlene, Rose’s live-in caregiver, (played with care and nuance by Georgia Mallory Guy), knows of Rose’s conversations with Walsh, at times siding with Walsh in arguments. Her love for Rose offers its own emotional story. The ghostwriter that Rose enlists for help is the wise-cracking Gavin Clancy, a one-time dime novelist who has abandoned his writing and developed a cynical attitude towards being able to write again. Robert Teasdale plays Gavin with razor-sharp wit and an engaging charm; you can’t help but root for him, despite his hard edg-
es. It’s a pleasure to see Teasdale on stage again. The play revolves around the love story of Rose and Walsh. Yet there are other love stories within as well. Each represents a different stage in a life of love and loss. Each is touching, beautiful, and funny. These stories demonstrate the need for human connection and show that love can transform and transcend, whether the love is real or fantasy. This is Neil Simon at his best. Later in the play, a scene between all four actors is such classic Neil Simon comedy: pitch-perfect, comedic gold. These top-shelf actors give everything to breathe great life to the last written words of one of America’s best and beloved playwrights. freeFall proves once again it knows what audiences need and want with this swan song to the great American playwright. food A Latte To Love at Craft Kafe in St. Pete Jen Ring
VIA ELENA CORRAO
As a habitual Starbucks drinker, I didn’t know much about Gulfport and St. Pete’s independent coffee scene before researching this piece. There are more than a dozen indie coffee shops in the area – Gulfperk Coffee Bar, Sumitra Espresso Lounge+, The Blend Coffee & Cocktails, Black Crow Coffee Company, Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails, Bandit Coffee Company, The Campus Grind, Craft Kafe, JahVa Coffee Lounge+, Beans & Barlour, Kahwa Coffee, Banyan Café and Catering. Eventually, I’ll try them all, but that’s a lot of coffee shops to visit in a single week. Also, I was finding out the hard way that not all independent coffee shops hire latte artists or even encourage latte art. In our Instagram culture, I thought that all the independent coffee shops would be doing latte art. But it seems that latte art is kind of a specialty. Not everyone’s into it. I started at Black Crow, where I ordered a plain latte and waited to see if they’d add a design. They did not. To be fair, I didn’t request latte art, but that’s kind of the point. Dianne Bronson, Connecticut: “No. I stepped on many cracks, walked under many ladders, broken mirrors, and I’m still here.”
Lisa Onessimo, Gulfport: “No. My mother threw salt over her shoulder but I never did it once I was married and out of the house. Why would I?”

PAUL DYCHA
WILCHYNSKI FAMILY
Sharon Wilchynski, Mar. 9, 1943-July 20, 2022 Sharon Wilchynski “Bad Mama Jamma”, 80, of Beverly Hills, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Seven Rivers Hospital in Crystal River. Sharon was born in Jackson, Michigan on Mar. 9, 1943 to the late Tony and Shirley Riske. Shirley and Tony had three children: Sharon, Ernie, and Sandy. Sharon was raised in Jackson, Michigan for the first part of her life. Then, in 1956, she and her parents moved to Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport’s Boca Ciega High School in 1958. In 1965 she married Philip Wilchynski, and had two children: John and Shirley. She loved
going to Gulfport Beach and enjoying the Gulfport lifestyle. She would often take the ferry out to Fort De Soto beach and walk through the bioluminescent waters at night. In late 2001, Sharon and Philip moved to Beverly Hills in Citrus County, to be near her son and daughter. Sharon was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was often referred to as “the Bad Mama Jamma” as she fought her way back from so many illnesses over the years. Her dedicated and loving husband Philip always went above and beyond to make sure she was well cared for. Sharon always cared more about others than herself. Even in her last days, she would still text everyone to see how they were doing, even though she was very ill. She loved her family very much. She enjoyed going to breakfast and talking to all of her friends. She was a social butterfly. In the afternoons she liked to watch the “General Hospital” soap opera on TV. She enjoyed baking and the holidays. Sharon loved life, enjoyed her family, and will be remembered for loving others well. Sharon is survived by her husband of 57 years, Philip Wilchynski of Beverly Hills and her children, John and Shirley Wilchynski, of Dun-
Nixon B. “Ric” Richard, Apr. 21, 1961July 22, 2022 Ric, a longtime Gulfport resident and Army veteran, has passed peacefully in his sleep. He enjoyed his love of animals, shopping at the Bazaar, and choosing what restaurant to eat at on the Gulfport Strip. He is survived by his partner Paul, his dog Lil’Tut, his father, brothers, sisters, many other family members, and wonderful friends. He will be missed.
