Jesus is born in Bethlehem Luke 2 v 1-7 Some stories are just made-up stories about made-up people. But not this one (or any of the stories in this book). This is a true story. A story about real people and real places. A wonderful, amazing story that really happened. Are you ready? Far, far away, there was a little town called Bethlehem. It wasn’t a big place. It wasn’t an important place. But it was a very busy place. It was full of people! That was because of a man called Caesar Augustus. He was a ruler. Everyone had to do what he said. And one day, he told everyone to go back to the town where they were born. So, little Bethlehem was full of people who had been born there.
One of those people was Joseph. He went to Bethlehem with Mary. The baby inside Mary had been growing and growing. It was almost time for the baby to be born. Quick! They needed somewhere to stay. Knock, knock. No room! Try next door! Knock, knock. No room! Try over there! Knock, knock. No room, no room, no room… And then it happened. It really happened. At a real time and in a real place, God’s King was born into this world. God’s King Jesus came as a baby! And where could Mary put him? Not in a prince’s cot in a palace. Not even in a bed. No. Mary laid this most precious baby in a manger.
