Dear Administrator, Hello my name is Garrickson, I am a 38 year old Native American (Navajo) who has been diagnosed with several medical problems since 2011. I have been in and out of the hospital since then. Which complication from surgery on my foot in September 2012, in which it happened in another Nursing Facility. When then brought me to The Peaks for my recovery. While in the care of nicest, openhearted, and caring staff. I was so much in love with my stay I feel like I am a part of a family who cares for me as an individual not just as another patient. So much as we were family in a warm home. I was so proud to call The Peaks home. Love The Peaks Always, Garrickson
January 2013 Thank you very much for your kind and compassionate care to Mike, my brother! It is really appreciated. I will have many good things to say about The Peaks to friends and family. Pat

July 24, 2012 Good afternoon, Mr. Slutzker..... My name is Diana, and I’m contacting you today on behalf of my father in law, Joseph, who was a recent resident for approximately 6 weeks. When he first arrived in May, he was quite an angry and saddened gentleman, due to his health circumstances. He was not in his “happy place,” as they say. However, with the help of your staff, as well as the doctors, his turn around has been amazing. Joseph was discharged today, enabling him to be back in his own home, thanks to everyone’s efforts on his behalf. The staff in Queen’s Way were phenomenal, and Ira was a true stand out. Please know that we would have been lost without Ira and his efforts to work with Joseph, from my father in law’s cantankerous beginnings, to his mellow and comfortable last few days at your facility. In fact, in preparing him to come home, Joseph said he was sad to leave Westchester Gardens. I’m wondering if a lot of people say that? :) Not sure how many times you receive notes of appreciation, but please know that the Jerome family is indebted to everyone at your facility, for their care, support and concern over Joseph’s progress and recovery. From the bottom of our hearts....we thank you. Kind regards, Diana Joseph’s grateful daughter in law

February 28, 2012 Dear Robin, June and I enjoyed the Night After the Oscars. It was fun with the staff dressed as Movie Stars, making it a fun evening. The dinner was unexpected in its variety. I did not think that is was possible for our chef to produce Lobster Tail and Beef Wellington together for such a large group of diners. It was a great accomplishment. A highlight of the evening was the Best Actress Award presented by Jim to Hazel. Hazel will never forget this award, which is so appropriate in her life and her work on stage. The whole event gave a lasting good feeling for the Royal Palms. Best Regards from, Hans and June

January 25, 2012 Mark Moyer Executive Director Sabal Palms Health Care Center 499 Alternate Keene Rd Largo, FL 33771 Dear Mr. Moyer: As Power of Attorney and Health Care Surrogate for June, I am sending you this letter to let you know how I feel about Sabal Palms’ care of June who was a resident in Room 715 from last spring until her death on January 15, 2012. Your staff on the 700 hall was excellent! They were very caring, kind, respectful and considerate of not only June, but to all residents. I never heard any one of them say an unkind word to, or speak harshly to any resident. This goes not only for the nursing staff and aides, but also the housekeepers and maintenance staff. Many times I called to check on June. Melissa, Roxanne and Janet were very, very informative and made me feel at ease with her care. When visiting June, I would often ask her if she was happy there. Her response was always “Yes. Everyone is very nice.” She never complained about anything, or anyone! I have dealt with many long term care facilities in the past and Sabal is by far top-rated in my book. Many times, attorneys and other professionals call me to ask about nursing homes. You can be sure that Sabal is one I mention all the time as being on top of my list. Sincerely, Marsha

Re: Elizabeth
Dear Peter, There is a kind of gratitude that is much too deep to be gathered into words, and this is what I feel for those who do the hardest kind of work imaginable performing acts of service for those in tremendous need. My mother came to you in need, and I want to try, at least, to convey this gratitude to all of you who made up her Terracina family. There are so many names and faces that swim around in my tears as I think of 5 years worth of kind acts, gentle words, and the astonishing good care that my Mother received from everyone there. I must also thank one and all for the unending patience with me and my concerns, questions, fears, and just plain nervousness when it came to my Mother’s care especially during what turned out to be the last year of her life. Seeing to the basic needs of my Mother was one thing, but it was the way those needs were met so beautifully that I have found to be a tremendous comfort. After having had the care of my Mother for 4 years, and having found it to be so incredibly difficult, I grieved and suffered guilt on the day of her move to Terracina, but that move turned out to be a blessing for us both. I was able to learn more from observing the true experts in her care - a lesson that served me well over the long years. As I grew in experience and confidence, I became better able to help my Mother with the love I naturally felt. There were some life-altering events within those 5 years when Terracina was Mom’s home, and I am still in awe of the gently efficient ways in which those many changes were dealt with while her dignity was carefully maintained.

The sensitivity I have witnessed, when no one thought I was around, humbles me, and there are employees I will never forget. In particular, I must thank Julio for his good ideas and wise counsel when we most needed him. He and Evans seemed to truly love my Mother, and for this I will always be grateful. There are so many others who were so good to Mom and I, specifically the CNAs: Gene - with his wonderful positive attitude, sweet Lourdes, Octavia, Norma, Mary. The nurses: Marilyn - God bless her good and tender heart, and Helen for her sympathetic ear and strong shoulder; Sophia, Sherri, Carla, and certainly Diane. I hug you all and apologize to the other dear angels whose faces remain etched on my heart, but whose names are just past my reach right now. They know who they are and I hope that they will never forget their goodness and their value in the lives of these vulnerable ones under their care. Marthe has had the patience of a saint in answering my e-mails and phone calls, in meeting with me on so many occasions, and in seeing me calmly through the roller-coaster ride of emotions that are so much a part of a caregiver’s lot. I must also mention Mike, and his comforting presence, especially in June, when he physically caught my Mother as she was falling. And young Rachel: how special she is and always will be. Somehow, by their very presence, these people and the others who made up my Mother’s last years, made the daily drudge of dementia so much more bearable. Please remember that you all became the most important people in my Mother’s life; how in the midst of this long sad journey, you special individuals who make up Terracina have also made me aware of abundant blessings: you have taught that laughter, life, and most especially, love, go on. You are some of the most loving people I know - the ones who use “love” as a verb. I will keep you in my prayers forever, and ask that God grant you all continued strength, patience, joy and courage to follow in this good path you walk, helping so many through the trials of their lives.

Finally, Peter, I am particularly grateful that you were able to create a roommate situation for us in July of 2011. This eased our financial burden at a crucial time, and made it possible for my Mother to stay in her home, until her passing - in her own bed there. Also, I noticed that every time my Mother saw you, she was happy; I know this because I saw her eyes light up at the sight of you. Thank you for the many hugs you so readily gave to her; they meant so much to her...and thus to me. Thank you for that natural, gentle way of yours, for all of your best efforts in working with family members, and for keeping Terracina a place of good conscience. About two minutes before my Mother died, she opened her eyes and looked at me, and I saw no more dementia, no drugs or fear... only a clear and focused conveyance of deep love and understanding. I was able to see once more the person she was long ago, and I tell you without the shadow of a doubt that the spirit of God was highly visible in her. She squeezed my hand, as if in reassurance, and then peacefully closed her eyes and left us all. What a reminder that to serve with such love is really all about serving and loving God, the One within, the true essence of us all. And that “...by loving Me you share in My glory, and enter into My boundless being.” “When the heart burns at the sufferings of others, That is God’s own heart. When eyes strain to see others happy, Through them God Himself sees. When hands toil for others’ relief, These hands move only by God’s will.” Please know how aware I am that you truly do God’s work. On behalf of my Mother, Elizabeth: thank you, and may God bless you all.....
Heartfelt,

Dear Mary, I would like to congratulate you on receiving the “Excellence in Assisted Living” Award, as only under your guidance and watchful eye did The Commons attain this honor. Thank you for all your effort and for striving to make The Commons the best assisted living facility by hiring a very caring and empathetic staff who really care. Thank you Mary for inviting and including me with the other residents to this great event. It was an impressive affair. As a side note, eight years ago when Jim and I were told that we had to leave our townhouse because of Jim’s health I was not happy, but I kept repeating to myself “there must be a reason,” as I always put my trust in God to guide my life. And -- I found the reason. I had never, ever dreamed that in my older years I would be so happy, and it is because I live at “The Commons.” Sincerely, Marge

To all the great people who work at Valley Health Care Center, We just wanted you to know how appreciative we are of the care you have given Dad. From the front office: Randi, Valerie, Melissa and Sandy…to the nurses: Heather, Jimmie Sue, Anna and Shawn…to the therapists: Amy, Melissa, Lisa, Rebecca and Tina…to Molly from the activities director’s office and the many others whose names now escape me, our deepest thanks. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know all of you. Your professionalism and genuine care you show for your patients is a testimony to your facility, your profession but most importantly to you personally. Your caring natures and concern for others is Biblical…your mothers did a good job of raising you! We believe that it was His will that Dad ended up in Valley Health Care Center and that He wants to use Dad in some way for His glory. But none of that would be possible without the world class care he received from you! Of course, I did hear whispers in your hallowed halls that Dad is the best patient you have ever had and the easiest you ever had to care for…good thing I go to church twice a week! May the Good Lord watch over and bless each of you and yours! Sincerely, Steve, Kathy, Claire and Bill

November 21, 2011 Village Health Care Attn: Kathy Hammond, Executive Director 2651 South Avenue West Missoula, Montana 59804 On behalf of my family, please pass along our heartfelt thanks to your staff for the incredible treatment our Dad received while residing at the Village Health Care facility. Even though his time at VHC was short, we always felt he was receiving the ultimate in health care. From the time we met with Bernice to get Dad admitted to my visits with Tiffany concerning quality care to meeting with dieticians, to transporting Dad to and from his Doctor’s appointments, even your cleaning crew, we found the VHC staff not only proficient, but thoughtful, concerned, understanding and compassionate about Dad’s condition. And the hugs, words of empathy as well as their support... beyond words of thanks. Dad’s nurses and CNAs were not only absolutely professional and the “top of their craft,” but most importantly were caring, compassionate and treated Dad like a member of their own family. They treated us, Dad’s family, like members of their own families as well...always keeping us informed, never too busy to answer our questions anytime day or night - and assuring us they were doing all they could to help with Dad’s dementia and diabetes. Some of the nurses who really stand out in our minds include Alvin, Dad’s day nurse and Nancy, Dad’s evening nurse - both incredible individuals. We would also like to mention Gabe, Ashley and Tony for their upbeat attitudes and willingness to always help when we needed it. And to your dietician, Emily for her motivation and readiness to change Dad’s diet, while trying to encourage him to eat. You all will sincerely be in our thoughts as we adjust to life without Dad. Thank you again! Sincerely, Laura Jeanette Ginny Shirley

Thursday, November 1, 2012 Just when I think Miramont can’t do better - I am surprised once again. The Halloween party was a delight for everyone - the kids to great-grandparents. Full of festive fun, creativity and good eats. My compliments to the activities department - there is so much to do around here anyway, how do they have time to put together a extravaganza as well!! Sincerely, Sandra
Dear Miramont Pointe and Goodman Group, I thank you very much for the very special letter and the more than generous gift which you gave me in connection with your 10th anniversary celebration. I also want to thank you for providing me with a comfortable retirement home and for extra help when I need it. With sincere thanks, Marjorie

October 17, 2012 Dear Mr. Buckner, It is with great appreciation, I write this letter from our family, on the treatment and organization your staff has demonstrated to my parents. The move into West Hills Senior Living Community is the best thing we could have done for my parents, in the later stages of their life. My dad had Hospice come in 5 months ago and my mother was the principal care giver. She broke her hip and we had to have an operation and rehab for her. This action, finally gave our family the chance to move them into a retirement home. I went to more than 20 facilities, trying to find the best environment and care for them. I have to admit, you were down the list only because of your initial costs. I almost passed you by, but when we found the 2 bedroom available, thank you to Marie, we jumped on it. My parents just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, and we wanted to get them back together, with my dad only having a short time left. This experience of caring for our parents has left our family in pieces for the first time. We moved them into West Hills, where you and your team began to take over. I had a sleep over with my parents the first night we arrived. You were having a staff meeting the next morning, and I stood behind the corner and listened to your meeting. I walked away with a smile on my face, feeling very good about your direction on the care of the patients, and what you were asking of your staff. We went down to breakfast and a young man named Daniel, came to take my parents order. As I introduced my parents to Daniel, he paused and said, “are you the World War II fighter pilot?” My dad, was very surprised and said yes! I was so impressed that the staff would take the time to look over the information and make my parents feel welcome. They have had to face many traumatic changes in a short time. Their independence has been stripped and now a new environment! Tanis and Carol have been my two “guardian angels”, heading a team of Hospice, Gentiva occupational and physical therapy and the Veterans for my dad and mom. Tanis told me about a Dr. Witt at Gabriel Park medical facility. They helped me get her as mom’s primary Doctor and she even makes house calls! Your staff of support people and your little kitty, has made my parents feel as comfortable as they could with all the changes and having most of their independence stripped because of age and failing health. You and your staff are the best thing that could ever have happened to our family, and I almost passed you by! Please, thank your staff from the Nielsen family. It is so gratifying for me to talk to my friends who have loved ones in facilities in Portland, and be able to tell them all you do. Most of them are very surprised and say their parents don’t get that kind of treatment. THANK EACH ONE OF YOU FOR LETTING ME SLEEP BETTER AT NIGHT, WHILE THE ‘WEST HILLS TEAM’, WATCHES MY PARENTS! A GRATEFUL NIELSEN FAMILY

Dear Donna, Just a note to say “thank you” for the excellent facility of care you provide for all the residents. My parents are Ray & Grace, and Mom often comments on how fortunate they are to be living at “The Inn.” It’s beautiful and well kept at all times. The staff is courteous and kind, Mom really likes her new cleaning lady! I thank god they have such a great place to live at this time of their lives. Sincerely, Lora
Thank you to all the staff who gave their love and warmest care to Arlyce during the almost 3 years at the Inn. It means a lot to her family that she was in a safe and warm environment. She indeed did not let any grass grow under her feet for she was constantly on the go. Let the music she loved be in our hearts and the dance always in our step. She loved to dance and teach people to dance. Even the most hesitating people got up and did a little jig with her. How could you not? Thank you for your kind devotion it will not be forgotten.
