Dear Prospective Residents & Family Members, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit our community and would like to share some of the letters we receive at The Goodman Group. I am very proud and grateful for the time residents, family members and friends take to write and tell us about their experience at a senior living, health care or residential community. Friday, July 30, 2010 To:

The Peaks Executive Director The Director of Nursing

Subject:

Thank You!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank several of the professional staff at The Peaks who have been instrumental in my recovery from acute kidney failure. I believe that my rehabilitation to my new level of functioning would have been, in my opinion, impossible to achieve anywhere except at this facility. Specifically, I’d like to recognize several individuals who made my recovery to my current level of functioning possible: RNs Chris, David, Mary Anne, Audrey and Terri on the day shift. Loraine, Paula and Jean on the night shift. As a group, I have never encountered more qualified and caring RNs. Their willingness to help me understand my medical condition, explain my treatment plan, and help me understand my medications, their effects and undesired side effects, gave me complete confidence that I was receiving the highest level of care available anywhere. CNAs on all shifts, in particular Jackie, Tiffany and Jesse, were helpful in getting my needs met in a timely and appropriate manner. On numerous occasions they’d go out of their way to make sure I got what I needed to make my stay at The Peaks, and my sometimes onerous treatments, more tolerable. I’d be remiss in not noting that these three CNAs were not only ones who helped me, but they are the CNAs I had the most direct contact with. Dietary Staff who fed me and my peers three times a day made my stay at The Peaks an outstanding experience - considering my situation. The term “hospital food,” should never be used in describing the fare at The Peaks. I note Chef Brae and his staff never failed to fulfill a “special” order I’d submit. One kitchen/dining room server deserves special recognition. Ginny Lu’s cheerful personality, her smiling face and absolute respect and care for all of us made our meals a pleasure. I can’t emphasize enough how much that cheerfulness affected my attitude for the rest of the morning, and with a “fix of Ginny Lu” at noon, the entire day! The Rehabilitation Department has managed to do what I considered a difficult, if not impossible, job of getting me to the point where I am able to walk again with crutch assistance, little pain and confidence that I will continue to improve, eventually regaining full mobility. Liz, Emily, Barbara and Suzanne, along with Danielle and others in the department, made this possible. Liz and Emily, as my primary PT and OT therapists, pushed me beyond what I perceived as my “limits” to achieve the goals set. Never scolding or disapproving of my admittedly sometimes “slow” progress (entirely my own doing or lack thereof), but gently encouraging me, setting goals for weekly progress that I could realistically meet and then building on those small milestones. I’m sure that there is an individual or department that I’ve not mentioned here. Just let me say from this former resident without everyone coming together for my benefit (and my peers’ too), I’d be leaving The Peaks with less confidence in my future and continued recovery. To everyone at The Peaks, “well done” and Thank You! Rob

Dear Ms. Shetler, My parents are residents at Monte Vista Village. They moved there last May after my dad took a very bad fall. I want to commend your staff for the wonderful care they are giving my parents. Unfortunately, my dad has not been doing well and has needed a great deal of help. The loving care given to him by your staff has been most appreciated. First, Sonja McClister has gone out of her way to encourage Dad and to make arrangements for all of his needs. Her upbeat personality, and her understanding of older adults and their special needs, have impressed me every time I am with her. And she has made herself available every time my brother and I have needed her help and counsel concerning my parents. I want to thank Carmen Ulloa and her staff. My father, who has always been a strong, self-reliant man, now finds himself needing someone to dress and bathe him. He resisted at first, but after meeting your caregivers, he is now comfortable accepting their help. They are so nice to both of my parents. Carmen has always been available and willing to help in any way she can. This has been so appreciated. And I also want to comment on the wonderful staff in the dining room. These men and women are always friendly. Solome Farrell has noticed my dad losing weight and always offers to make special milk shakes for him because she knows he likes them. Getting him to eat enough has been a problem. From the day we were shown around Monte Vista Village by Tracy Walter and Sonja, we have been impressed by your cheerful and caring staff, which also includes your friendly receptionists! Our family is thankful that we found your facility. Very Gratefully, Jane

From: A Grateful Family The Palms of Largo was chosen for Bobbye for the professional and continuous care program that is offered to its residents. Bobbye first entered The Palms of Largo at Royal Palms in 2002. It was a great and rewarding experience for her. In 2006, she moved to Regal Palms where she enjoyed the “Teas,” Worship Services, Music and Activities under the skillful direction of Tara Lanzer. June Sharp was instrumental in Bobbye’s health care and well-being; always showing a wealth of understanding and professionalism. Four years later, it was necessary to move Bobbye to the fourth floor memory care, and Tammy Dunlap integrated Bobbye into the family lifestyle of the “Pearls of Life.” This proved to be the best and loving environment she needed in her last year. The staff and nurses were always encouraging and kind. The last five days of mother’s life were spent on the third floor at Sabal Palms. Here she was given comfort and dignity in her final hours. We are very grateful and appreciative of The Palms of Largo and what it meant to mother as well as to her family. In Thanks for all Who cared for her, Bobbye’s Family

Cypress Palms 400 Lake Avenue NE Largo, FL 33771 To the staff of Cypress Palms that so graciously helped: Each one of you has been so nice it makes it very hard to put so much real gratitude into a single card. But if each one of you will read between the lines, you’ll know this brings a “thank you” more sincere than words could ever show. I would like to extend our “sincere” appreciation to all of you who were so thoughtful and cooperative in getting Lucille ready for her 91st birthday party on Sunday, January 31, 2010. She has been like a mother to me, a grandmother to our son and a sincere friend to many for years, and we love her so. As a Charge and Surgical Nurse herself for many years, she, too, gave TLC to many of her patients. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Ms. Marnie for all she did for us to have this party. And Ms. Liz, Assistant Activities Director, for making several trips to the library and assisting by phone with decoration set-up and other needs. Most of all to Mr. Matthew, the Chef, who went beyond the call of duty and personally helped me decorate while my family was running party errands. He so thoughtfully provided linens, tableware, ice, and cold storage for our ice cream, and gave thorough instructions on the coffee machine use and was ‘on call’ if we needed him. Many, many heartfelt thanks!!! Again, our sincere gratitude to all for help making our Lucille’s birthday party a memorable event!

To the Board: Hello, I am Charlie. I am in charge of the Tuesday Men’s Group and a resident here at Regal Palms. I would like to give you an update of our feelings on life at Regal Palms in the past 6 months or so. There are many things we feel very good about – the new decorations, furniture, flowers, rugs, etc. The renovations on the 2nd floor are very nice and it is used daily. We feel very comfortable there and appreciate it very much. The 4th floor seems to be coming along really well and if it turns out as well as the 2nd floor it will certainly be a compliment to Regal Palms. There has been some painting that has improved different areas and we have many new couples that have joined us at Regal and many of them have new carpeting and seem very happy here. The new changes in the staff have worked out well; we feel that Mr. Barody is very firm, but fair, and we are lucky to have him. His door is always open to suggestions or complaints. He either takes action on our suggestions or takes the time to explain why something is not feasible. We appreciate having him here. Our holidays were very nice; we all felt like a family together. We have had specialty days, like Chinese day, Italian, Western etc. and the decorations are always very nice. Our Sunday Brunches are exceptional and very well attended. We have asked for quite a while to have management here early in the morning and Mr. Barody has listened to our suggestion and made that happen. Breakfast seems to be much better with this change. We have seen Mr. Barody’s name in the paper recently and are proud of his civic activities, just recently being elected to the board of trustees at All Children’s Hospital. Our Tuesday Men’s Group is growing, as Mr. Barody attends and keeps us updated on changes and updates. I work with the men on the 4th floor and Mr. Barody has given me a free hand to visit with the friends that are at Sable or close hospitals. In closing, the Men’s Group, along with myself, want you to know we appreciate Mr. Barody and feel we are in good competent hands and are proud to be a part of his team. We would welcome you at our meetings any time you are in town. Sincerely, Charlie

July 30, 2009 Dear Mr. Goodman, This may be regarded as a fan letter, as I wish to tell you what is going on here at Royal Palms. My family wanted us to move from our apartment here at Royal Palms to another beautiful apartment near them in Raleigh, North Carolina. Initially, I agreed, due to the fact that I would be so close to my daughter and her welcome presence. All arrangements were made, even a deposit to hold the new apartment. After a sleepless night, I called the next day to cancel the arrangements and remain here at Royal Palms. My reason for telling you all this is that I think you should know the strength of your organization and the strong hold it has on us (a fact I am sure you are aware of). Your staff is without parallel: Robin is a true gem who knows our hearts and deals with our concerns with wisdom and empathy; Mike and Dee Ragan are without peer; our entire dining staff meets all our needs and then some, with love and understanding; our entire support staff is there for us all the way; and lastly, remember our transportation department with Mike Smith doing yeoman duty to keep us “moving along. This is my family and my home and I could never leave, God willing. Hope to see you and your family soon, Very Sincerely, Helen and Donald Cc: Dan Peterka, President Melinda Seifert, VP Senior Living & Health Care

August 25, 2010 President Dan R. Peterka - Suite 200 The Goodman Group @ 1107 Hazeltine Blvd. Chaska, MN 55318 Re: SABAL PALMS at The Palms of Largo Resident: Matthew Dear President Peterka: To quote your letter of July 28, 2009: “The staff at Sabal Palms represents the passion and mission of the Goodman Group, and we are extremely pleased with their dedication and spirit to serve.” Matthew and his family are still witnessing that dedication and spirit to serve. Can you can imagine my delight when one morning this past May, I entered a therapy room and discovered Matthew standing (with proper support apparatus) having a game of stick-ball with the SABAL PALMS therapist, Desiree!? I shudder to think of what his life would, or should I say wouldn’t be, if he were not receiving such high quality care since his transfer to Largo from Florida’s East Coast in October of 2008. Matthew resides in the 300 Hall but receives his education and therapy at the SABAL PALMS Pediatric Unit. Are you aware that he “foot walks” his wheelchair from his room to his destinations, including the Dining Area adjacent to the 300 Hall where he is able to feed himself (under supervision)? In May, Matthew was baptized at a ceremony conducted by Reverend Earl during a Saturday morning religious service after which his attendants at the 300 Hall surprised us and set up a small dining area so that his parents, his uncle, and I could celebrate that momentous occasion with him. Recently, he was taken by van for a special visit at the Largo Fire Station. What a thrill for him to receive his honorary Fireman’s Badge! He enjoys the best of both worlds between the 300 Hall and the Pediatric Unit. How fortunate he and the other young persons and their families are! THANK YOU again to The Goodman Group for its diligence in continuing to provide so well for our loved ones. Sincerely, Joyce (Maternal Grandmother)

Sabal Palms Health Care Center 499 Alternate Keene Road Largo, FL 33771 Dear Mark, This note is simply to thank you and your staff for the wonderful care that my mother and sister received at Sabal Palms. Sometimes it is not until you have time to reflect back that you realize what wonderful care they both received there. We came to view Sabal Palms as an extension of our home where our loved ones stayed when we could no longer properly care for them at our home. When Mari was at Largo Medical Hospital and we were waiting to find out where she was going to be transferred, she just breathed a sigh of relief when I told her that she was going to Sabal Palms. And so did I and my sister, Carol. It was comforting because we were familiar with the place, the procedures, and many of the people. We knew what the outcome was going to be. And your providing a private room for her was really special to us. I am sure it made it easier for everyone. While her first roommate was very nice, that lady did not need to be in a room with someone who was dying. I t allowed everyone to say their good-byes in private, especially Mari’s son and husband. Both of them received excellent care at Sabal Palms. Nurse Betty was so special to Mom, as was the young male nurse, Jermail, that she and Erma had. Mom really thought he was special. Also, the nurses and CNAs that Mari had were so special. When I received the call from Angel that Mari had passed, I thought it was so fitting. Then to find her rosary on her pillow in the shape of a heart was really touching. The CNA was also so sweet. Although I did not know her, she said something SO touching to me that it gave me great comfort. I felt that even though we were not there when Mari died, she was truly in the hands of angels. And I would be remiss if I did not mention Kathleen Regan, the ARNP. She spoke honestly to us so we could make the decisions that were so very important. Also, Dr. Stegg gave us explanations that helped us to understand what was happening for Mari. The Admissions people and social workers were just so helpful, especially with Mari. I really needed help to understand what to do for her. So, thank you for all your help and concern. We will always have a warm spot in our hearts for Sabal Palms Health Care Center. Sincerely, Julie

My Mom, Jean, and Dad, Stan, have been living at Sabal Palms for the past 3 years. My Dad passed away on March 28th. My Mom continues to live there. Our entire family feels that the care my Mom and Dad have received over the past 3+ years at Sabal Palms has been outstanding. I visited my Mom and Dad every day and will continue to visit my Mom every day. Every time I or other members of our family come to Sabal Palms, we find your staff to very competent, kind and considerate. It is very comforting to us as family members to see staff members who are so gentle and skillful while tending to the needs of all the patients who are living at Sabal Palms. The rooms are always clean and the common areas always well-maintained, neat and very nicely and pleasantly appointed. It is a pleasure to walk through and bring guests to Sabal Palms. The nurses on the 800 Hall are the best. They have impressive medical skills and have an excellent ability to assist and calm both patients and patients’ family members. The nursing assistants are also very good. They tend to every patient’s needs with skill, kindness and compassion. The level of social services available to patients is also very good. My family and I are especially grateful for the excellent care and consideration my Dad received during the last days of his life. Every staff member responded to his needs in a very sensitive, courteous and dignified manner. Staff members are now being very supportive and understanding as they help my Mom adjust to my Dad’s absence. We thank the entire staff of the 800 Hall for their outstanding services. The level and quality of care they provide is outstanding. Bob

55+ INDEPENDENT LIVING

December 1, 2010 To: Imperial Palms Apartments Largo, Florida I currently live at Imperial Palms and I have found it to be the most wonderful place in the world. The staff is universally, exceedingly, nice and I could not have created a better place had I done it myself and handpicked the employees and the grounds, etc. I am on the food plan and there is an exceedingly nice lady named Shannon that delivers the food daily and she is nice and so helpful. She is always that way, which is in itself remarkable, because everyone has an off day but she never shows it, and I think she is a saint. Then we come to Cary, the ultra, ultra pleasant lady that comes over to clean every couple of weeks and I have found her to be so wonderful and helpful and as uplifting a person as I would be able to create had I been set down with a drawing board and had been given the task of creating a perfect human being. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the wonderful lady named Rachel who does the laundry. She is always very polite and warm and friendly. I would be terribly remiss if I didn’t also mention the maintenance staff run by Tony and Joan, who are heavy duty responsive and helpful, always, even to a silly old geezer like me. The same goes for the office staff like Sharon and Bev and others I don’t know. In short, leadership flows from the top and that would be you folks and Jasmine, who is the property manager. She sets the tone and I would not have believed that the property could have been managed better, but somehow she seems to do an even more excellent job than her predecessor. In my opinion, the staff here is the best in the world. Things and attitudes flow from the top and you folks at The Goodman Group are to be commended and praised for instilling this attitude in the staff. I have been an apartment dweller all my life and I have never in my life seen a place that can hold a candle to the fine work that you do here. Michael

Dear Mrs. Manspeaker, I am writing this letter to say Thank You for one of your teachers, Paula Squitieri. My son, Brandon, attended your school for about 2-1/2 years. During his final year, Pre-Kindergarten, he had the opportunity to have Ms. Paula as one of his teachers. Brandon is a shy child by nature so he had a little difficulty separating from me in the mornings. Ms. Paula was always there to help with the transition. She would try to distract Brandon with asking for his help with something because she knew he liked to help. She was also there for me because she knew it was difficult for me, too. She always encouraged me and would let me know that it was going to get better even when I just wanted to cry. We won’t count the times that I drove around in circles in the parking lot so Brandon could wave to me from his classroom! As a former teacher myself, I know that it takes a special person to be a teacher. Ms. Paula has all of the characteristics of a great teacher, and more! There may have been 30 children in that classroom but she knew how to handle each one of them. She knew what she could do to calm each child down when they were having a difficult time. She was always open and honest with us when she thought we needed to know something she could do to help him. She always took the time to listen to me if I had a question, even if she was busy. She was always very appreciative of the parents who helped with their parties or projects. She let you know that she appreciated you. I know that the teachers in this world do not get the credit that they deserve, and probably never will. I know that is not the reason most people go into teaching; it is for the love of the children. Ms. Paula demonstrated her love for those children every day. She also taught them to become more independent so they could be ready for Kindergarten. She could make Brandon do things for himself at school that he would not do for himself at home. She also encouraged the children to make their own decisions and to be responsible for the decisions they did make. What prompted me to write this letter was the conversation I had with Brandon’s Kindergarten teacher this morning. Mrs. Pasierb stopped me as I was walking out and wanted to let me know what a phenomenal job Brandon was doing in the class. She said that his writing and coloring were right on target and that he always paid attention and was eager to learn. I told her that I had to give credit to his teacher in Pre-Kindergarten at The Learning Center for that. She said that you could tell that he had been taught very well. I was so proud when I left that classroom. I know that as parents, we take some of the credit, but a lot of the credit has to go to Ms. Paula as well. Thank you, Ms. Paula, for being such a great teacher as well as a wonderful person. You made Brandon’s Pre-Kindergarten school experience such a wonderful time in his life. We will never be able to say, “Thank You” enough for that. I know that he will have many great teachers in the years to come, but I don’t think they will ever compare to Ms. Paula. Sincerely, Anita

Naples, florida

January 20,2010 Mr. Craig Edinger, Regional Director of Operations Southeast Region, The Goodman Group Dear Sir: I was introduced to Terracina Grand by an elder care attorney in Naples. She highly recommended Terracina Grand above all other senior living communities in the area. My parents moved into the unassisted level in 2005. They settled in and were very happy there. After some time, they were moved to the assisted level. After my father passed away, Mom was put into the Memory Center, first to Arabella’s Place and then to Arabella’s Garden. I have always been pleased with my parents’ care at Terracina Grand throughout the years, but not as impressed as I have been since you hired your Executive Director, Peter Hendrickson. I feel it is very important to me, at this time, to bring to your attention how much it has meant to me to have this very exceptional young man at Terracina. I live in New York City and am not able to see my Mom as often as I would like. Peter has been there for me, showing extraordinary compassion towards my Mom in consideration of my personal situation. I have also noticed that Peter directs his staff with the same compassion and concern for them. On a couple of occasions when a problem arose, I have seen Peter roll up his sleeves and help out. Peter does not seem to mind getting his hands dirty, no matter what the problem. Peter knows all of the residents and their individual needs as well as those of their family members. His devotion to his residents is truly remarkable. His concern and compassion for his staff serves him well. He works hand in hand with his staff and is well liked by all. I had had some reservations about the Memory Center and was a little worried about my Mom having to be there. It appeared to me to be a depressing place. It is now a happier place with better amenities, and residents’ are stimulated socially throughout the day. The Memory Center has improved greatly under Peter’s direction. I was not pleased with the former nursing director. However, Millicent Bernard, as Nursing Director, and Tabatha Yager, recently appointed as the Memory Center Care Coordinator, are two extraordinary women. Millicent Bernard is a true professional. She directs her staff with much compassion and love, and provides the same to the residents under her care. Dealing with my parents’ decline was a very difficult period in my life. Millicent was there for me every step of the way. Her guidance was invaluable to me. I will never forget the love and the care that she gave freely to our family. Tabatha Yager does the same in the Memory Center. Tabatha keeps me updated on my Mom through e¬-mail almost daily. Her devotion to the residents is truly heartfelt. Her presence in the Memory Center has been most beneficial to the residents there. The personal attention she gives my Mom always gives me peace of mind. She truly is a dedicated professional. When Peter first carne to Terracina Grand and after meeting with him, he told me that I would notice many changes, especially in the Memory Center. He certainly met his goals. The aesthetic improvements have changed the center, but not as much as the quality of daily life. The residents are

always stimulated and amused. No one is just sitting there looking into space. It is a totally changed atmosphere. Peter has also changed the source of obtaining pharmaceuticals. This was a very wise decision. The previous supplier, Sunshine Drugs, had been making many mistakes in my parents’ bills, for years. I had to be very vigilant with each and every bill. Inevitably, each monthly bill had a mistake. It caused me much wasted time and extra headaches. This issue was finally addressed by Peter after many years of the former directors not addressing this problem. On the other hand, billing is not a problem at Terracina Grand with the Business Manager, Andrea Ferreria. Since Andrea took over billing, there has never been a problem with billing. Even if I have a minor question of any kind, Andrea will get back to me with an immediate response. She is very well informed. What is also remarkable about Andrea is that she knows all of the residents personally, visits the Memory Center daily, and can tell me how my Mom is doing at any given time. Andrea is a remarkable young woman and very devoted to her job. I would also like to mention some other people at Terracina who have made a difference in my parents’ life there. Under Peter’s direction, the maintenance director, Nick Mayor, keeps Terracina Grand looking as if it were just built and sparkling clean. There is an extraordinary attention given to details. The place aIways looked good but never this good. It is at its best. The dietary director, Joseph Rotondo, cares for the residents’ dietary concerns but also takes the time each day to personally ensure that the residents are happy with their meals. When my father was alive, Joe found out my Dad missed his homemade pasta each Sunday. Joe would take time out to make him a special pasta dish each Sunday. This gesture on Joe’s part meant a lot to Dad. Joe became Dad’s first friend in his new home. My Dad really loved Joe. Joe still comes to the Memory Center to visit my Mom and to speak with her in Italian. It seems to comfort her. I will never forget his kindness. Whenever I call Terracina Grand, I am always greeted by Sandy Galyas, the Terracina receptionist. Sandy’s friendly voice has always helped me get to the right person at the right time. Sandy anticipates your concerns and is helpful, kind and reassuring, after all these many years. Lashonda Right is the Memory Care Activities Director. She manages to keep smiles on the residents’ faces from the minute she gets there to the end of her day. Her energy is boundless. The residents love her. Her enthusiasm is infectious. To see my Mom’s face light up at the sight of her is heart-warming. The aides who care for Mom are really exceptional people. Two who stand out, among many, are Mary Fitten and Bonita Antoinette. Their attention to my Mom’s personal care and well-being is remarkable. They show so much love for my Mom. These two ladies have a true calling to their profession. I wanted to write this letter before my Mom leaves us. She is now under hospice care and there may not be much time left. I have been able to rest peacefully at night knowing that Peter and his great staff are at Terracina Grand. Terracina Grand is an exceptional facility and I was blessed to have been directed there almost five years ago. I have directed many people to Terracina Grand in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Yours truly, Virginia

Mr. John Goodman The Goodman Group 1107 Hazeltine Blvd. Ste 200 Chaska, MN 55318 July 20, 2010 Dear Mr. Goodman: On behalf of the family of Charles, I would like to thank the entire staff at Terracina Grand for making the time he lived there so enjoyable for him. The nursing staff was kind and attentive to his needs, especially during his last month. Donna and Yasser were diligent in seeing that he was comfortable during that time. All of his aides were very good to him, but I’d like to single out the dedication of Max Constant, who attended to him on a daily basis with compassion during the time he lived on the third floor. As his health and capabilities declined, Charles was moved to the Memory Care wing of Terracina Grand and we are very appreciative of the level of care that was given to him - as well as the other residents - by the entire staff. Our family spent a great deal of time during the month of June with Dad and observed the non-stop care given to all residents in the Memory Care wing. We were impressed by the teamwork of the staff, and especially the cheerfulness in performing their duties to keep things running smoothly. While everyone In Memory Care should be commended, one aide, Mary Fitton, stands out for her efforts of going above and beyond in her work. We were grateful that Mary attended to Dad so carefully in making him as comfortable as possible. Though asleep most of the time during his last week, he would always have a smile for her in response to her cheerful greetings. She is to be commended for being proactive in looking for anything to do which will make the residents under her care safe and comfortable. We will always be appreciative of her loving care and cheerfulness during his short stay in Memory Care. I’d also like to recognize Deborah Martin who would check in on Dad during the course of her busy week. Finally, I’d like to thank Executive Director Peter Hendrickson with whom I’ve had the pleasure of numerous conversations over the years, and who has become a friend of our family. He has been a good resource for us and represents Terracina Grand to the public in so many positive ways. There is a sign in an employee area at Terracina Grand that says, “Kindness ... Pass it on.” Please thank your entire staff for their dedication to that principle. It makes such a difference in the lives of your residents. Best Regards, Paul Cc: Peter Hendrickson

TO: DAN PATERKA, PRESIDENT, THE GOODMAN GROUP 1107 Hazeltine Blvd.-Ste. 200 Chaska, MN. 55318 FROM: JULES RE: PERSONAL REPORT on EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE. I respectfully take this opportunity to express my thoughts re: the performance of employees at Terracina Grand, Naples, Florida. My professional background, I believe, is vast, having been the C.E.O. of a Public Corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange, employing almost 10,000 people, from laborers to Top Executive Talent. I have been a resident of Terracina Grand for almost two years; I like the spaciousness of the apartments and the variety of services. Much more importantly, I am impressed by the “Capability, Courtesy and Eagerness to Help” exhibited by almost every Terracina Employee. This exceeds, well beyond the duties normally expected from Staff. For Example, the Dining Room is staffed by waiters and attendants who are local Junior and Senior High School students, 17 and 18 years of age. They are earning funds to help with their education or assist with family income. They are well groomed and uniformly dressed. We expect them to do their job capably. If this were the case, I would not write. However, I am both amazed and delighted by the “above and beyond” attention these young people exhibit, giving extra care and attention to every resident, be it a pleasant word, a pleasant greeting or extending physical help. This has been my observation of the care and attention of all the staff, especially exemplified by these young people. Whether this should elicit “kudos” for the executive staff is not my concern. I write only to advise of the delight I and others daily experience with staff performance at this Senior Living facility. Thank you. Jules

To:

Terri Osteen Executive Director The Residence at Timber Pines

Sometimes it is difficult to write down feelings and get them must right, but since this is from the heart it should be alright! My mother-in-law, Harriett, resided at The Residence at Timber Pines for many years after her husband of over 67 years passed away. In all of her glory, Harriett was a lady. A term some have forgotten the meaning of, but Harriett was truly a lady. She always tried to look her best ‘til the day she passed. She made sure she dressed nicely and her makeup was done, and her hair just right. At 97-1/2 years old, blind and almost deaf, she took pride in herself. In fact, she was just about the nicest person I have ever known. Why do I tell you this? Well, because it is important to know that, when I tell you she was proud to be a resident at The Residence at Timber Pines. I want you to understand how special that was to her. A lot of people are proud of their homes and families, and Harriet was proud of hers. At The Residence, she was family, and it was her home. Sure, towards the end she was sad and sometimes upset, but that was life at 97-1/2 and her family knew it. They showed patience and love beyond what they get paid to do. While caring for hundreds of others, they always had a special place in their heart, and always found time to give her comfort in one way or another. Monica, her daughter, and I observed this both from afar and close up. They knew the questions before we asked, and they knew the answers, too. When you trust a loved one’s well-being to others, we believe you can find no better than the staff at The Residence. They gave us comfort in the knowledge that they were on top of every situation. On short notice, they would sit and talk with us as we shared Harriett’s comments and opinions of things. Without any doubt, they were doing their job. Harriett was happy, loved and cared for at The Residence at Timber Pines. Sometimes it is just the right thing to do, that is, to speak up for others! Here, I believe I speak for Harriett in saying thank you, thank you, thank you so very much for all you have done for me. The love, the caring and the comfort to my dying day, this, I say to all of you, is what makes The Residence such a beautiful and special place. I hope this message reaches every single one of you who touched my life! Kisses and hugs from above. Harriett

The Residence at Timber Pines Spring Hill, Florida My husband of 70 years passed away in October, 2008. I lost my best friend and was lonely and depressed. I had thoughts of suicide. My health deteriorated; I was in pain and could no longer walk or care for myself. After a year alone, my children decided I could no longer live alone. My daughter persuaded me to visit The Residence at Timber Pines. We were told of the care and the many activities I would enjoy here. I agreed to leave my home and start a new life at The Residence at Timber Pines. It didn’t take long to adjust to a new way of living. With good meals, many activities, and a lot of friends, my health returned and now I am able to walk and take care of myself. I owe my life to The Residence at Timber Pines. Lois

Dear Ms. Yaeger: My mother, Dorothy, just recently moved into The Commons on Marice. My family and I chose The Commons even though it is a bit of a drive for us, largely in part to its beautiful and comfortable surroundings, but mainly because of some very outstanding staff working at The Commons on Marice that made it stand out as the place for our Mother. In particular, Kezia Wicklander is perhaps one of the most outstanding employees I have had the pleasure of working with as I visited well over twelve senior care facilities in the Twin Cities. Kezia was very professional, caring, and knowledgeable and her follow through on any issue far exceeded my expectations. When my brother flew in from out of state to help us make a final decision on a care facility, Kezia gave us that special tour and hosted lunch for us. I think just that extra special touch that Kezia offered is what is so important during a stressful time for families. The Commons on Marice is fortunate to have such a caring, professional employee. I have supervised many employees throughout my career prior to my recent retirement as Vice President and Interim President at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota, so I know how valuable those “shining star” employees are to an organization. My thanks to the “A” staff for the very excellent care they deliver to the residents. Very best regards, Bernadine

November 19, 2010 Queen Anne Courts Lakeville, Minnesota. Thank you for the opportunity to have lived in the park for the last three years. I wanted to share a few comments about my experience. Each time I had the opportunity to interact with Tanya, my concerns were always heard and addressed immediately. I appreciated immensely her desire to see the park as a community, and I always felt when I drove in that it was a place where people took pride in where they lived. I think her efforts to coordinate activities, get the newsletters out and just be very visible were a huge part in the community feel. I left the park because I had an opportunity to purchase my own home, but I can honestly say that I would recommend residence in this park to nearly anyone who is looking for a place to live. I had a great time while I lived there and you are very fortunate to have the dedicated and hard working individuals I referenced earlier on your team. Susan

I was particularly impressed at the work that the maintenance staff did to keep up with the snowfall during the storm itself. Most of the residents were not outside during the storm, but the maintenance staff were! I was personally helped in finishing the major shoveling I had to do to get my car clear of snow in the parking area. One of your staff came over with a riding snow blower and helped me with the last two feet of snow between my car and the parking lot that was particularly heavy due to the plows coming through. This was very helpful as I am a part-time resident (living out of state) and did not have all of the clothes and heavy shovels that a resident would have had. We don’t often get a chance to thank someone who really helped and impressed us, so I am taking this opportunity. Please relay my thanks to your staff. Sincerely, Laura

To: Royal Oaks Apartments New Hope, Minnesota October 28, 2010 I have lived here for about a year and a half and it is the best place I have ever lived. This place is one of the friendliest places ever! That is because of the Manager, the Caretakers and the Maintenance men that take care of this place. Besides being so efficient, thorough, and just the best bunch of employees you could have work for you – they make everyone here so welcome - just like it’s home and like we are all one big family. I don’t see all of them as much as I see your caretaker, Cheryl. She’s the best; she’s so helpful to anyone in need, whatever the reason. She never hesitates to help - it’s just in her blood to help when she can. Then talk about cleaning, that was one of the main reasons I moved in. She just cleans, cleans, cleans, and is a very good cleaner! I give her great praise on everything she does and for the smile on her face for everyone. ~Connie~

Billings Health and Rehabilitation 2115 Central Avenue Billings, MT 59102 Dear Kerry, I thought I would let you know that in my books, Billings Health and Rehabilitation is doing very well. My stay in the TCU was first-rate. Monica runs a good operation. Her staff really appreciates her. One of the long-time aides said, “This is the first boss I’ve had that I truly like.” Monica initiated a regimen that affected a cure on the diabetic sores on my feet. They had been there since my stay in St. Vincent’s in early August and were not healing until she started on them in November. I am very grateful to her and became quite fond of her. She is a great girl. I want to mention and compliment some of the staff who showed care, consideration and compassion that speeded my recovery. They made me feel like I was part of a family and not just a resident. First mentioned will be the aides in Cross Roads North who were great in my short stay there. Thank you very much to Wendy, Karen, Pat, Ginger and Skye. In rehab, Donna and Rene are excellent and Shelly was very helpful. Donna challenged me and if not for her, I would not have made the progress I did. I am extremely grateful to her. In OT, the two who worked with me, Duane and Ian, were very proficient and considerate. Vicki always had a big smile and a warm greeting. Janeen and Frank in Social Services were really great. I really enjoyed Judy, the football pool she shared with me, and our visits. She does a superior job of supervising. Also, I should mention that Mike and Dale from maintenance did a good job to help with my wants/needs. This is extremely long, but they are things I wished to express. As I told you the day I was discharged, “You run a good ship.” Sincerely yours, Doug

July 9, 2009 Westpark Village 2351 Solomon Avenue Billings, MT 59102 Dear Tina and Staff, Words can never express our gratitude to you all at Westpark Village for the loving care you gave our mom. She felt so loved there, and I know she made you feel the same. Mom was one incredible woman. One who gave of herself before considering her own needs. She was that way all her life. Where do I start in my thank you’s to all of you? Tina, you encouraged me so much throughout mom’s care. You allowed her to die with dignity in her own apartment, which is exactly what she wanted. I am so very grateful. God is so awesome to have granted my prayer for being with mom throughout the end of her life. Your staff served us with love and grace. I thank you all for the many, many times you helped her find her hearing aids or her earrings. The times you had to go in and have her hang the phone up so I could call her. The endless days and nights of checking on her to make sure she was alright. Also, for serving her meals in her room when she wasn’t feeling up to going to the dining room. For kitchen band, the highlight of her week; for daily exercise that kept her strong and able to continue her activities of daily living. The many outings planned that she used to enjoy so much. Last but not least, the many visits to her the last two weeks of her life. You will never know how that touched Coyla, Mary Kay and myself, as well as mom. The list could go on and on; each of you played such a significant role in the loving care of our mom, we can’t say thank you enough. You all provided everything a person ever would want for their loved one in life; spiritual direction, exercise, great nutrition, a clean environment, a friendly smile and a sense of caring that every human being needs. You can all be so proud of yourself. I miss her so much and am assured that she is with God Almighty feasting at a table already prepared for her, and able to see with the 20/20 vision that she longed for the past 13 years. What more could we ever want for a loved one?!! Thank you all, again, for absolutely everything you have provided for our mother. Sincerely, Laurie

We would like to say thank you for contacting us when Mom takes a fall, or her medication is being changed, or she’s having a bad day. The food that they get is very good and plentiful. The cleaning of the floors and walls on a daily basis, and the laundry staff are great. And let’s not forget the dogs and cats (haha). September 2.2010 Melinda Seifert The Goodman Group 1107 Hazeltine Blvd. Suite 200 Chaska MN 55318 Dear Ms. Seifert, This letter is in reference to Tammy Talley, Administrator of Riverside Health Care Center in Missoula, Montana. It is a letter of commendation that I feel compelled to write, and it is entirely unsolicited. One of my family members, Marie, has lived at Riverside since September, 2004. This is about the same date that Tammy assumed leadership of the facility. It was at that time that I first met her. Accordingly, I have known, observed and interacted with Tammy in multiple ways over six years. I am in a unique position to comment on her abilities and work performance since several other family members resided at Riverside in previous years when other administrators were present, and I have seen the contrasts. I believe that Tammy Talley is an excellent leader, administrator and colleague. She holds high standards of performance for the staff which she insists on being honored and maintained. The spirit of the staff -- nurses, LPNs, aides, dietary workers, maintenance, and office personnel – is positive, friendly, efficient, competent and helpful, irrespective of the day, time or occasion on which I visit. The physical facility looks and smells clean, well-maintained and attractive. In the month of August alone, Marie (who suffers from advanced multiple sclerosis) was taken one sunny afternoon on a Riverside bus tour of Missoula neighborhoods featuring beautiful yards and gardens. The riders voted on which was the loveliest and would receive public recognition from Riverside. After a stop for ice cream, the bus returned home, full of happy riders. She was invited to ride the bus, along with a number of volunteer helpers, to attend the Westem Montana Fair. She was encouraged to take a day tour with other residents up to Salmon Lake where there is a handicapped accessible picnic/camping area, fishing area and dock. She invited us to attend the annual (since Tammy) Riverside Pig Roast on the patio and garden grounds. This is a party for residents, their families and guests, complete with bright tents, a delicious buffet and live music. Clearly, Tammy’s philosophy is that residents should be helped to enjoy life to the fullest. Particularly meaningful to me is the fact that Tammy is always free to see me and to hear my questions/thoughts/ suggestions. She greets me with a huge smile and listens without interruption, often taking notes. If it is a matter requiring follow-up on her part, I hear back from her within 24 hours, letting me know the action she has taken. Never once in six years has she ever said, “No, I cannot do that.” Instead I hear, “Let me look into that and get back to you.” I have come to understand that Tammy is not only a great friend to Marie and our family, but she is also an outstanding advocate for the residents who are dependent on her for their life support I am sending a copy of this letter to Tammy because I want her to know what I have written about her. You have my permission to use this letter, or parts of it, in whatever ways you consider to be appropriate. My own preference is these remarks be included in Tammy’s performance review, and that they are a pertinent factor when bonuses and salary increases are considered. Sincerely, Jamie
