OUR VOLUNTEERS The Grand has over 200 volunteers who work behind the scenes to help ensure that you have the best experience. Whether it is taking tickets at the door, showing you to your seat, greeting you in the Great Hall, or even just offering a smile, our volunteers are here to lend a helping hand. Volunteers play such an important role in our organization. We would like to thank all the men and women who donate their time. We wouldn’t be The Grand without them! ABOUT US The Grand Theater is a beautiful Grecian-revival structure that represents a truly “grand” era for performing arts. Located on the 400 Block, The Grand Theater has been a historic icon of Downtown Wausau for almost a hundred years. Opening Thanksgiving Day in 1927, the theater has made Wausau a stop on the theatrical circuit. Today, The Grand has continued to hold true to tradition, offering a season full of entertainment. The Grand Theater presents an incredible variety of performances, including Broadway shows, concerts, comedy, dance, and family programs. Some may know us for our iconic building, others may know us for the shows we present; however, The Grand is much more than a theater. Acting as a community gathering place, the theater is home for over 300 events per year, bringing people together from all over the State of Wisconsin. Our Performing Arts Season delivers a diverse lineup of Tony and Grammy Award winners, emerging artists, and world-renowned performers to North Central Wisconsin. With a mission to enrich the lives of members of our community, The Grand offers more than shows. In addition to our Performing Arts Season, The Grand features an Arts In Education Series, bringing curriculum-based performances to over 18,000 of our area’s students. Likewise, artist residencies and outreach programs put our professional artists directly into the community. A cornerstone of the community, the Grand Theater brings the best of the performing arts to North Central Wisconsin.

THE GRAND THEATER’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SERIES RETURNS AFTER A SUCCESSFUL 2017-18 SEASON OF ENGAGING OVER 5,500 MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, THE GRAND’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SERIES RETURNS FOR ANOTHER YEAR OF OUTREACH, MASTER CLASSES, SEMINARS, AND MUCH MORE!

Between performances at The Grand, the dance captain from the cast of Broadway’s Kinky Boots traveled to the UW-Stevens Point campus to teach the show’s choreography to more than 65 dance and musical theatre majors.

WITH A MISSION TO ENTERTAIN, EDUCATE, AND ENRICH NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN, The Grand’s Community Engagement Series pushes the performing arts from the stage into our community. Last year’s workshops, film screenings, classes, and performances created opportunities for over 5,500 members of the Wausau community to interact with The Grand Theater’s performances in unique and exciting ways. Last season provided a number of opportunities for students to work directly with some of the artists performing on The Grand’s stage. From Sammy Miller and the Congregation’s workshop

with the Wausau West Jazz Band, to Kinky Boots Dance Captain Chris Kane’s master class with the UW-Stevens Point Departments of Dance and Musical Theatre, it was truly inspiring to watch the students and the professionals learn and grow together. The Grand looks forward to bringing artists like the renowned vocalists of The TEN Tenors and classical cross-over duo The OK Factor into Central Wisconsin schools and universities this season. But who says students should have all the fun? The Community Engagement Series features free public events like dance, selfdefense, and fitness classes; educational lectures, exhibits, and

film screenings; and even more exciting opportunities like Broadway Karaoke, trivia, children’s activities, and more! Visit The Grand’s website and Facebook page to see what unique community engagement events are coming up next!

JERRY AWARDS The Grand is proud to partner with Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, and the Fine Arts Center at Viterbo University in La Crosse to encourage, recognize, and honor excellence in high school musical theater through the Jerry Awards. Participating high schools have their musical productions reviewed, critiqued, and nominated by educators and arts professionals, and award recipients are recognized at the Jerry Awards Show in June!

JERRY ENSEMBLE Now in its second season, the Central Wisconsin Jerry Ensemble is the

premier performance group representing Overture Center’s Jerry Awards in our region. The Ensemble features select vocal performers from schools participating in the Jerry Awards program, selected through auditions each year. Under the direction of Marshall DeLonay, the students spend each season building their technical skills in acting, singing and dancing, and performing in Wausau and across the state. This year’s Central Wisconsin Jerry Ensemble features 17 talented students from nine area high schools: Wausau East High School, Wausau West High School, Newman Catholic High School, DC Everest Senior High, Merrill High School, Mosinee

High School, Stevens Point Area Senior High, Marshfield High School, and Northland Pines High School. You can see these incredible performers in action before select performances at The Grand and performing throughout Wausau. Check The Grand’s Website to see where they’re performing next! It’s not too late to get involved! For more information on how to participate in the Jerry Awards or Ensemble, or to become a Jerry Reviewer, contact Katy Lang, The Grand Theater’s Director of Education and Community Engagement, at klang@grandtheater.org.
