The Campus Environmental Management System (EMS) analyzes the environmental impacts of UC Berkeley campus activities.
• Established partnerships with Cal Dining & TGIF • Developed BYOM logo & mug artwork • Purchased BYOM Klean Kanteen Mugs • Conducted baseline café waste audits (GO! Team) • Hired BYOM Marketing Coordinator • Launched campaign, using social media & live events to generate BYOM buzz!
In the 2010-2011 EMS ranking, “Food Service” ranked as the 3rd highest environmental risk to campus. The EMS Committee established the BYOM campaign with the goal of mitigating food service waste on campus. Campus Activities Environmental Impact Ranking 2010-2011

Why should you BYOM? It is estimated that people in the United States use 58 billion paper cups each year- with the majority going to landfill. Manufacturing reusable mugs do have a greater environmental impact than that of paper cups. However, that impact lessens over time as the reusable cup is used. After only 24
