Thompson was the game’s leading scorer, with 18 points, including four three’s. Center Pete Gayhardt ‘16 recorded 13 points and 19 rebounds in the Hawks’ victory.
A Look at Big Brother: An Interview
By Marcello Garber ‘17
For those of you who do not know, over the past few weeks, some upperclassmen at the Prep have been working on creating the Prep Big Brother program. The program is designed to help bring the freshmen closer with some upperclassmen, and to make their transition to their new school a little easier. Fintan O’Toole ‘16, creator of the program, describes the goals of the

MG: “What do you hope that the freshman gain out of the club?” FO: “I want the freshman to feel that they have a friend in the upper grades that will be there for them when they just simply don’t know what’s going on. Entering high school is a super hard leap of faith to make, and the goal of Big Brother is to extend a hand to them so that leap isn’t quite so scary.” MG: “What do you hope for the future of the club at the Prep after you graduate in the Spring?” FO: “Though I am graduating, I know Dr. Gillespie and I put together a great team filled with juniors who can carry the Big Brother torch. I want these guys to take this first year as essentially a training session so that Big Brother is a lasting institution at Prep for years to come.” MG: “Why do you think it is important for younger high school students to have older students to freely communicate with?” FO: “Transitioning high school students have a tough task. Eighth grade is smaller, more intimate, less intimidating… High school is a whole new ball game. All of the upperclassmen have gone through very similar situations in their early Prep careers and have worked through them with the help of

Student of the Week
By Ryan Naehr ‘16 This week’s student of the week is the dashing Matthew Ix ‘16. Ix, hailing from Berwyn, PA, has proven himself during his time at the Prep as a student, a rower, and a man for others. Throughout his time here at the Prep, Ix has maintained nearly perfect grades, while also taking some of the hardest classes available. He even manages to take the same mathematics class as his younger brother, Chris Ix ‘18. His hard work has earned him a spot at the prestigious Dartmouth University next year. Ix is also a monster on the Schuylkill, rowing the JV 8 and Lightweight 8
teams to victory in the previous couple of years. Sitting in the stroke seat, he is also a crew captain this year and looks to lead the team to yet another year of continuing success. Ix was a retreatant
on Kairos 146 and also finds many ways to serve the community. He volunteers his time at the Dragon Boat Festival, the Philadelphia Marathon, and Freshman Retreat. He also spends some of his time tutoring.
Congratulations, Matt!
