Br ave New Prep: Same But Different By Aiden Ander son ?22 Not much at the Prep has remained the same during the four years the seniors have been here. In fact, the class of 2022 is the only current grade to have experienced an entire year of a ?normal? St. Joe?s Prep. Of course, the obvious explanation is that the school has changed to adapt to COVID protocols. Regardless, there?s been an influx of changes across the school.
Another change to the schedule is the decision to move community period to the end of the day. Previously,

Mr. Marinacci, the 33rd President of the Prep, stood before the current seniors clad in a Prep mask, white shirt, and a crimson and grey tie on the first day of school. During that introduction, Marinacci?s voice boomed off the walls of the theatre as he walked up and down the isles, holding three fingers up to the crowd. While students shuffled in their seats and re- adjusted masks Marinacci urged them to be present (now) during their last year at the Prep (here) and

Over the last four years, there have been over four different schedules. Last year, classes were seventy minutes each and students had three to four classes every day. We went from hybrid, to allvirtual, back to hybrid, and then finally in-person full time. Now, classes are forty minutes except for one seventy minute period each day. Double periods for science labs are a thing of the past, forcing teachers to squeeze labs into the longer once- a- rotation long period classes.

Since the Prep began its 1:1 Chromebook program, the Chromebook has become a staple of the Prep experience. This year, students were given upgrades from Lenovo 500e (left) to the Dell 3100 (right).
By Joseph M ancini ?23 In the current Prep Community, there are many misconceptions and rumors about the new brand of Chromebooks that have been recently released, and currently many have different opinions about the new technology. First and foremost, the most obvious difference between both Chromebooks is which company manufactured them. The old Chromebooks, called the Lenovo 500e?s, were made
by Lenovo, and they were first released 4 years ago. Now, our new Chromebooks are manufactured by Dell, and they are called the Dell 3100?s. These Chromebooks were first released only this year, so the technology is very recent when compared to the Lenovo?s. In an interview with Mr. Heisey from the school?s Technology Department, he voiced his position on the key features of the new Dell?s, and why this difference in compa-
nies matters. ?The Dell Chromebook has faster memory and more memory. The processor speed is great for multi- tasking programs, and the hard drive space is great for storing lots of information.? More memory in a computer is a massive help to a Prep student?s life for homework and resources, and the new Dell?s offer that. see CHROMEBOOK p. 13
After the storm, the team worked to bring the boathouse and the area surrounding it back to its previous condition.
