Triune Training’s Monthly Health Tips/Advice

By Calvin W. Howell III

Everyone is dealing with SOMETHING. We all go through rough patches, where things aren’t rainbows and lollipops. The fall is fast approaching, which means the holidays aren’t far behind. Although the holidays are typically considered a joyous occasion, for some it’s not. According to the American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increased during the holiday season, which can lead to physical illness, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. The reasons given: lack of time, financial pressure, giftgiving, and family gatherings.

So, if you or a family member are dealing with something, feeling a little down, feeling a little off, there is nothing wrong with asking for help.

Break free from the mental health stigma that plagues our community. There are various resources at your disposal, for example if your employer has an EAP (employee assistance program). EAP is one of the benefits that is significantly underutilized, take full advantage of your resources. I’m a big advocate for EAP services. I’ve taken advantage of the services provided through an EAP in the past. Please note that EAP isn’t just mental health programs, but also includes, but not limited to, health and caregiving, family services, substance abuse, and financial services.

Also a quick Google search for Mental Health Resources pull up various online mental health resources that you can always access.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. ...

Crisis Text Line. ...

Mental Health America. ...

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) ... 7Cups. ...

The Trevor Project. ... Moodfit. ... Happify.

You can eat all the kale, lift all the weights, even hustle harder than William Roberts II, but if you don’t take care of your mental health, it’s all in vain.

Take care of yourself; mind, body, and spirit!
